The art on Nightmare Asylum by Dan Beauvais & Roger Casselman is the best of any Aliens comic and arguably some of the best I've ever seen. Kudos to the genius of those men.

well they have nice art. But for me what made nightmare asylum so effective is how the artists used and played with the colours instead of pencil lines. Made it so nightmarish.

Every time I learn more about stories from the Aliens expanded Universe created between the multiple films, I have to wonder to myself “Do film executives hate utilizing preexisting compelling plots?”
Yes because they hate effort and creativity.
Same thing happened with Disney and SW.
They don’t want to pay the writers for their work
They suffer from "Not invented here" syndrome.
Well the thing is, do you even think the lazy-creatively bankrupt-hacks who direct/write these new films even know this content exists, aside the simple fact an Expanded Universe for Aliens exists 🤔..?
Same thing for Star Wars, I'd bet my left nut the entirety of the writers staff/directors etc up to Kathleen Kennedy haven't seen or read a single fucking thing from the Expanded Universe; they flat out don't care and wanna make "ViSuAlLy StUniNg" $300Mn box office smashes for the dumbed down masses, usually in tandem with pushing some nonsensical-cancerous political/personal agendas (i.e. "tHe fOrCe Is FeMaLe").
People creating something that they can't control is one of the oldest examples of "horror". I like Spears' story, because humans created him, but can't control him, and then he created these alien creatures, that he won't be able to control. The extra level makes this story extra cool.
I'm sure this plan will go well. Always works out trying to control these things...

Lucy Logan I still count them as Aliens Universe though. In any franchise there's a difference between standard Canon and alternate universe and scenarios. I still find them interesting.

I like this part of the lore in the Alien universe.. Its a bit frustrating the way humans lost control over the xenomorph trying to control it and then lose the war.. still very realistic in a way..
So glad you're now covering Book 2. It's still the best Aliens graphic novel I've read both in story, writing and art. Great video.

I had no idea that A.W Spears' past was so dark, I don't remember reading about it in the comic book. Anyway, thank you for covering the Aliens comic book lore, they often have the most interesting stories to tell. Nightmare Asylum is one of my favourite comic of all time, the art perfectly reflects the dreary and dark atmosphere of this universe and the story is complex and engaging. Fantastic video, as always, I can't wait to see what other videos you have in store for us Alien fans!
Never read the comic but I did read the book. This back story along with other flashbacks were in there.
I've never understood why there are dislikes on these videos.
afaik, its because normies think youtube cares about their ratings for the recommended video feeds & playlists. rather than just taking any engagement as positive.

This second series in the ALIENS comic books is the most beautifully illustrated of the entire run.

Its ironic, studying the aliens as a weapon was the cause for their infestation. And yet studying the aliens as a weapon could also be the solution to their infestation.
Man great video, I love Nightmare Asylum, I remember getting the first book when I was little in 1994 or so and was blown away by the art how gritty and dark it was but at the same time so gorgeous. It’s defiantly # 1 when it comes to my Alien comics Spears was a great Villain, I wanted all Alien comics to be done with this art but to bad Female War looked like shit compared to this.
As always top notch videos. Why the Alien universe is so awesome. When you have interesting protagonists and antagonists truly fleshes out the Alien universe.

Shit, this series is so good! I've been watching through the playlist and I gotta say, this comic series was really good. Your narration and music selection is really good as well, you give off a sort of creepypasta vibe which fits very well for the material.

Thanks for this amazing channel, and thanks for summarizing this book. This book is actually solely responsible for getting me into firearms. During the insurrection when they talked about "Mozambique" shooting, when I was a kid I was fascinated. And now here we are lol.

second in command is a Major, I would have thought a Colonel would be more fitting.
I think that would be standard, I wonder if they pulled a lot of men off of the base to fight when the situation in Earth went bad. My bet is right now the military is in shambles and probably most senior and flag officers are either dead or scattered still trying to regroup. Wouldn't surprise me if most surviving units are being commanded by corporals and sergeants at this point.
Lord Frostwind the mission to the Xeno homeworld had the same issue. It may be standard.
This series would make a great HBO or Stars TV show.

I remember having this comic and name changes were made from the original. Hicks and Newt had name changes I believe. I don’t know if there was more. Besides that, this is one of my favorite Alien Comincs

It's easy to hate Spears for all the horrid things he did, but almost as easily can he be pitied: he didn't ask to be born into the military, didn't ask for drills and training in place of a childhood, in the second Aliens comic Spears talks about how the Aliens have something he doesn't: a "bond of flesh".
Am I the only one who is reminded of General Spears when playing the Capcom AVP Arcade game and seeing Weyland-Yutani leader General Bush? In terms of flawed, delusional view of controlling Xenomorphs and thus meeting a horrible fate.... not appearance!

Aliens was a cool movie. But I never liked the containers with the fluid that contained the face huggers. Seems kind of like james Cameron made the xenomorph weaker just to make the plot more convenient. Great video though.

I would suggest buying the Alien omnibus volumes in chronological order. They'll give you the events of Earth War and are about 25$ each. As for the novels, I have no clue sorry :p

Always disappointed that the Dark Horse comic book series were never adapted for the sequels. Fans deserved something rich and intelligent and exciting like this, rather than the shitty sequels we got from Alien 3 onwatrda.

0:32 You mean amenable, not amendable. You do that kind of thing a lot. The narration is otherwise fairly decent but the frequent mispronunciations and misused words are really jarring and take the listener out of the story.
This story makes NO sense. A General decides to use an alien life form to kill other aliens. Yeaaa that would work as good as training fire ants to attack people on command. Like seriously? The writers need to put down the crack pipe. 🙄
