I’ve been going to Corolla for years . We try to fish every morning. In five years we’ve maybe caught 5 fish. I use the high low rigs, #2 hooks all different baits and 1-3 oz weights . Never live bait though. I can never tell when I’m getting a hit vs the waves hitting my lines .. we are heading down mid august any tips you could give me ?
It def can be tricky! I would suggest shrimp or sand fleas, and make sure you have enough weight depending on how rough the water is. I'm honestly not a great resource as I've only surf fished a handful of times. Check out 1fish2fish on RUclips. They are fantastic, and they do some fishing in the OBX.
I am going to corolla tomorow! hoping to catch some big whiting ... not sure what to expect to catch when the water is colder??? Any recommendations?... we are coming from florida to visit and I always catch bigger whiting when the water gets colder, and florida pampano... liked and subbed!
thank you!! Well I used shrimp and definitely got bites. I wanted to use bloodworms but the bait shop was out of them. If I were to do it again I would probably have also tried some sand fleas. They are all over the place and, well, free! So you might want to give them a shot. I would also suggest using shrimp bites. I've seen folks use them by themselves and with the live shrimp. One issue I had was keeping the shrimp on the hooks. I think the shrimp bites would have helped that issue. Good luck and have fun!
I wasn't getting a ton of bites. I did move around a little when I wasn't getting bit, though I only had one rod in the water so it wasn't that difficult. I would try switching up your bait a little. If they aren't biting shrimp, try bloodworms and/or sand fleas.
919 Bass Fishing I tried all of those but thanks for the tips. Sadly I didn’t catch anything down there and I spent 100s of dollars for this trip. I was just a 30 second walk from you to.
Nice work man! Mullet and a puppy drum! Hope to get into some next week myself! Keep up the good work! I just subscribed. @pastallday - I'd use smaller hooks and pinch those shrimp in half.
Thanks man! Can't wait to take a day trip out to the beach and try again. Definitely hooked on surf fishing. Was bummed I didn't catch anything I could filet up. Next time, I hope! ;)

So you just bought some regular like 5/0 hooks and put little bits of the shrimp or the whole thing
@@johnbartle4224 I used pieces of shrimp on a hi low rig with a 2 ounce pyramid sinker. Like this one www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CTRCRU
@@johnbartle4224 There's a bait shop in Corolla where you can get everything you need
@@johnbartle4224 check out 1Fish2Fish, I learned a ton from his videos. ruclips.net/channel/UCY0Yr1_k-pgrHv8M1NHZVMA
