    Going to be spending a week there in July but further south, staying on Roanoke Island.

      Roanoke Island is a blast! Lots of cool shops down there too! Be sure to stop in to OBX on the fly! You will be close to the "little bridge" down there which is a great spot to catch fish if they aren't cooperating on the beach. Tight lines, and thanks for tuning in!

    Man a black drum is the biggest I've gotten in Wilmington. Great eating, about 7 pounds

      Casting out to the break was what worked for me then... had to wade a bit... gotta watch for rip currents though!

    Thanks for the videos! I'm new to the channel.. Looking forward to more! subscribed! I wonder why you set up far back from the water, is there a reason? I've never fished off the beach. just wondering if it is better to be back a little bit like you are.

    • @HicksHooks
      @HicksHooks  Год назад

      Thanks so much for tuning in! That's a great question. I usually put my rod holders up on the beach for two reasons. First, I feel like it helps keep more line out of the water. This helps keep my sinker in place because the current has a tendency to pull on the line. The second reason is, waves often break further up the beach which can knock your rod and sand spike in the water. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than getting sand caught up in your reel. Tight lines and thanks for subscribing!

    What size hooks do you suggest? I'll be in Carova in two weeks. Looking forward to doing some surf fishing. Probably bring fish bites, mullet, and squid.

    • @HicksHooks
      @HicksHooks  Год назад +1

      I usually use size 4 hooks on my bottom rigs, and 2/0 hooks for the fish finder rig. Check the fishing report too because if the water is right you might see some pompano in the troughs.. Tight lines and thanks for tuning in!

    Good content. What size line do fish with and what do you call that bait rig?

    • @HicksHooks
      @HicksHooks  Год назад

      Thanks for tuning in! I usually use 12 -15 pound test mono with a bottom rig commonly called a High Low rig. All of the bait shops in the area have them. Tight lines!

    15 years fishing Corolla - dead beach unless you like catching skates all day.

      LOL. It wasn't the most productive, but I'm sure there are good fish to be had up there when the conditions are right. Thanks again for watching, and good luck out there!

      I’ll be in Avon in June, will let you know what’s what. I think your comment about the flat beach at Corolla has a lot to do with the surf fishing there.

    • @HicksHooks
      @HicksHooks  Год назад

      @@danvertonSurfFishing I totally agree! I think the trough in by the breakers provides a great spot for fish to hunker down and feed. Good luck! I'll be anticipating a good report! Tight lines!

      Is it really a dead beach when it comes to fishing? I will be down this coming week. Anywhere close to there you recommend for better fishing?
