Very very helpful, thank you so much for all the info u guys give
Very new to surf fishing but I love it! Just discovered your channel and it is SO helpful. I've made a couple of these mistakes already but will def be tuning in to more of your tutorials. You guys are great!! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Great video so many great tips thanks
Love these type of videos. Looking forward to next video about tackle. If you could talk about fishing in different water temperatures that would be great since I live more up north!
Great tips here brother. Very self explanatory and very clear bro thanks!!!
Thanks for the video. Helped a lot.
Excellent Advice...I appreciate it!
Helpful ❤.
Thanks 😊.
Great Vid. You guys Rock!!!!
I love all your tips and tricks
Great tips
Very helpful considering I'm trying surf fishing for the first time tomorrow
I’ve been fishing off the pier a lot. I always towards the end, but a couple days ago I went to the area where the waves break. That’s when I caught my first speckled trout and they were 18 inchers. It was fun.
Thanks for the tips
thanks for the info,
Amazing video just moved from Colorado to Florida and gonna try tomorrow morning tyty for the vid will keep u posted on how I do for my first time ever trying surf fishing ty again
Really good tips, this kind of help wasn't available when I started fishing, I hope newer generations take advantage of nice people like you helping out the angler community.
Excellent job!
Nice to go fishing with your wife. Lovely couple and even nicer you can fish together and enjoy it. 😊
Thanks that's very good to know
Great thanks
Gonna be on Hilton Head in a couple weeks. Looking forward to my first attempts at fishing there. Thanks for the good info.
Dudes on point!!
Heading down to ObX in a couple days (June 13th 2021) and I only salt water fish once per year on vacation, your channel is without a doubt the most informative out there. There is so much to forget as a year goes by but after binge watching your channel for a few days i feel confident that i will have some success this week. Awesome work thank you guys!
I just got back from Wal-Mart and watched a couple of your videos... Headed down to Jacksonville Beach...I'm going fising....Thanks for the tips...👍
Love the hunted hunter analogy! I actually enjoy both styles. But only when I don’t care if I even catch anything I’ll be the “hunted”….almost always on the hunt! The fact that I do enjoy both styles depending on my mood is the very reason I hate coangling. The boater is on the hunt but you’re kind of forced to be both. It’s the spur of the moment decisions that can make or break a fishing trip! Good stuff!
Very informative video. Fishing is a very therapeutic for me and it's even better when I'm catching fish. Thanks for the tips, you just earned one more subscriber. Keep up the good work. Tight Lines my Bro
I found this video most helpful out of all I have seen to date. I am glad I stumbled back across your videos. Thank you for still going. Do you have any videos from Mobile and or Dauphin Island?
You guys and I would say Steven from bama fishing Are my favorites. Good information very entertaining thank you so much, Wish I had people like you that fish the Texas gulf coast.... I'm headed down to port aransas and corpus christi for next couple weeks, Definitely gonna use some of your tactics. I'm bringing the boat, so I'll be off shore and in shore. Thanks again, Congratulations on the baby.
Another problem with all those guys who like packing into a small area for fishing is getting lines crossed. When you're close to another fisherman it's not hard at all to get your line tangled up with someone else's.
YES !!! I hate when that happens
thank you
# 1 🐟 your doing a great job as usual... tight lines ,,,,
Good info in this video! I didn’t know tackle shops have Blue Crab bait. Interesting. May I ask if I can use the same rod I use for bass fishing (lake) if it’s rated for saltwater?
Dude, you are a "saltwater sensi", very valuable info....i'm THERE sometime soon. Thanx for divulging (no haters) as you said before really all common knowledge BUT many won't be the hunter or like the common sense observing of both location and well, conditions i guess in other vids. Lots of experience, kudos to you!
I grew up in Chesapeake, I've been gone over 30 year's, TN. TX. & CO. I came back because my Grandkids are 7, 9, &10. I'm fired up to take them fishing but never did much saltwater fishing, I catfished primarily in the canal & freshwater. I did some Pier fishing for spot & croaker. Anyway, I'm fired up to get at it :$)
OH! Tides! I'm clueless, please explain, Va Beach vs Sand Bridge, are they the same times? if not, which one is first? What exactly should I do to plan accordingly? ect ect ect, thanks in advance
Is there a meaningful advantage to fishing at the end of the pier when targeting bull drum?
Fish are everywhere but you're right, you're going to have more luck where there are fewer lines.
On a more personal note, If you got a woman who likes to fish, can bait her own hook and isn't afraid to handle her catch, she's a keeper!
totally agree with number one. a part of the reason i go fishing is to get away from everyone. regardless of whether it is saltwater or freshwater, there seems to always be some jackass who wants to set up 12 feet from you when the entire beach, lake, shoreline, etc. is available.
I like the brown cap you’re wearing as you talk alongside the pier. What kind of cap is it? Thanks for sharing the fishing tips!
Can you make a video on artificials for surf fishing
Dolfins is good tip N NC they usually mean a buncha redfish or blues etc! So True
Do you have any videos about rod and reel suggestions for surf fishing?
I love surf fishing over pier fishing.no other way high low rigs made by me .like you said sand fleas or cut blue crab ,shrimp(fresh).
Tarpon small hooks and what live bait? Crabs ? Thanks man great video.
Love the content even though I’m late lol. Only thing I disagree on is frozen squid I shred it up with frozen squid I mean it thaws out quick lol
Now I know what my mistakes are, thanks man.
Jeff...Great video. Along with your comment about blue crab scent being a primary attraction, could you go over your use of Pro-Cure and which scent you prefer. I know Aaron prefers menhaden. I've used inshore with pretty good success. Or does it really matter?
Sometime you could touch on the different types of weights and where they are used in saltwater surf fishing. The type of weight you use can increase hookups because one that holds bottom really well allows the use of a lighter weight. (I am not talking the eight ounce sputniks/Hatteras style used at the Point!) The biggest mistake I see is people using bank sinkers in the surf. They just roll and foul up your rig.
Keep up the good work and I hope to see you and Kristi fishing in the snow they are predicting Thursday!
Which ones are bank sinkers ?
@@jrgrande69 ...Not sure how to describe them but if you Google "Bank Sinker" a picture of one will come up.
How do you know which fish are good to eat and which ones you should use for bait or throw back?
TY share w/g/kids & Pier fishing is R thing so agree 101+%
Great Vid. My tackle box smells terrible? Could or would this affect success if the scent is so important. Is there a way to correct the smelly tackle box issue?
I fish the surf 99% of the time. Make your own rigs! Less is better in most cases! Hook size and lead weight will make a difference!
Lead slider, barrel swivel fluorocarbon leader. Sometimes adding beads matching coquina shells for Pompano! You have a great channel lots of useful info. I live in J-ville FL
and predominantly fish Vilano Beach. Matanzas inlet is a little longer drive but insanely productive!
Hey I was on Fort Myers beach today and had ZERO bites for 4 hours...went EVERYWHERE on that beach...used fresh ladyfish whole and cut...Nothing!!!...used a 4oz triangle weight in the surf casted close to shore...far out...middle...nothing. cant figure out what is wrong
Great information. Did you catch anything that day? We went to the OBX MLK Day and got nothing.
What about fish head pieces on a size 2? Caught some nice croakers yesterday at OV Piet yesterday. Hadn’t pier fished in years. Headed to beach today to surf fish. TYIA
Ur Thougt' s on sabika rigs we cut them N half & put new barrel swivel on them. Work well 4 Us?
I use about a 3-4 oz weight. That usually keeps the bait where I toss it
My brother will be fishing NC on shore, Im curious with the waves and motion do you use any weight? If so what size?
Whats the perfect weight sinker to use and how heavy? Thx
What about different types of line ? Which are better ?
i have stocking foot waders so what should i get for shoes?
Where do you get your blue crab for bait?
I totally agree with the crowd issue unless it’s opening day for a particular species…too much noise in and out of the water. Yep, saltwater life insists on FRESH bait while not so much for their freshwater cousins…especially catfish.
You’re spot on. I’m subscribing. Rest In Peace my Grandma s/o my 5th grade teacher and my Uncle for teaching me how to fish. I’ll teach my son soon 🤝🫡⏳❤️🔥
Beginner here: what would you use besides a high low rig? Just a weight and hook with bait?
Also would like to add, and hopefully the creator can correct me if i make an error, but when surf fishing, if you look down the beach and see the waves forming and you see a "break" or what i call a "flat" between a wave (the same wave, no formation), throw in that area. Ive read that it could be a rip current in that area or a structured area, maybe a sand bar. Fish will congregate in that area. I fish mostly from a boat but love a little relaxing surf fishing once in awhile.
Where do yall park.
But, does the rod specs have to match the weight you're slinging?
I love seeing people fish with Red beads and wire leader for inshore fish
Great cluster of information. I love surf fishing and have made myself and also seen a lot of the very mistakes detailed in the video. I'm glad you don't but you should be charging for this level of insider information.
Thank you!! Really appreciate this!
I fish where the fish are depending on what species I'm targeting. It has nothing to do with where people are on the beach or the pier. If I pier fish, where or what location I fish on the pier, again, depends on the fish I am targeting. Fish where you want. There is no mistake on where you choose to fish. If I shark fish I choose an area where a slough or channel are present. Just do your research and you'll be fine with no tutorials necessary. Tight lines y'all!
Couldn't find your links ?
I never thought I'd get great fishing tips from Tony Hawks's little brother! Keep it up!
When he says crab chunks, does he mean like Walmart crab meat we can eat chunks or full crab chunks we break off from like legs arms etc?
So what size/type of rod are you using to cast and work with a 3oz weight?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for asking this question. His rod and reel looks light and very comfortable to use.
Rods are listed by Lure Weight, and a surf rod may be listed as 1 - 5 or 3 - 8 ounces. For a rod to fish small baits with 2 and 3 oz weights I would fish the 1 - 5 ounce rod. If I was to throw a 3 oz weight with a large hook and a 12 inch mullet, I would want to throw that with the 3 - 8 oz rod. You will find that the sweat spot is somewhere in the middle of the listed lure size on any rod. As far as lengths go, a 9' foot rod is a good overall choice for most east coast purposes. Rods over 12' long can get to be pretty sporty to throw. Often times I see people over-throwing the fish as they (the fish) will chase baits right up into shore; remember, long casts does not always equate to more or bigger fish. One other point I will make about rod choice is recommended line weights on rods - use that for reel size more so when you are choosing a setup; again, if you stay in the reels midrange for line size, chances are the whole setup will work well together.
Hope these general rules help,
@@Chuck_Carolina thanks for the reply. I appreciate the advice.
I like the hunter hunted analogy. I got a spot where im forced to be the hunted.
is this kitty hawk pier
Tip: sometimes the fish are right in front of your face, no need to cast out to 150 feet
This avalon pier?
Will a 1oz weight be good enough to hold bait down against waves?
He specifically says that he aims for the 4oz mark when he's talking about people using too light of gear.
Yo! I'm from the OBX, where are you guys at?
Avalon
i like windy days on the lake for walleye, rule number 1, follow the birds!
I love fishing the beach but i live by daytona beach in florida and the only time i can go beach fishing is only in the winter early in the morning. Even then the beach can have quite a bit of people. The only time i would love fishing in a crowd is if i hook in a bikini lol
Did you all go south to a warmer place or something cause in va Beach its been cold as hell... or old footage?
They R N OBX on video !
@@kipperwhite2976 Cold as hell there also!
Avalon pier to be exact I think. Don’t quote me
I caught a 16 inch whiting with 8 oz of weight.
Also, the pier is also where visiting anglers go because you don't have to get a license for a day trip of fishing. App wants $53 for a week of saltwater versus $10-20 for a day or two of pier access.
I like the empty beach also,, so no one can see my mistakes
because im really bad at english do u mean 1/0 2/0 hooks or #1 od #2 hooks?
So don’t use frozen mullet?
you got me with the clickbait - I thought this was a fishing video with a that has a really tiny arm
wanna be clear I ain’t saying crab ain’t good. Lol I have seen too many videos of folks catching big fish with it. But I am mostly a shrimp and artificials user and the one time I used fresh dead crab in hopes of a “big ugly” as we nickname the black drums out here in Texas😅… haha welp, them dang bait stealers done stole all my crab! Haha but also it was inside a bay overnight soooooo maybe there was not any black drums to begin with
I’m literally watching this video with the pier this was filmed by insight
I was told today that you can't surf fish when life guard on duty. Do yall park where pier is
except in another video you said to use bloodworms and frozen shrimp.
watch the diving birds
How much is a temporary fishing license in virginia I am from maryland
Call a local tackle shop in the area you plan to go fish at.... Buy your needs there and ask questions and seek advice.
Pier fishing is free, no license needed.
MD and VA share so much water with the Chesapeake Bay, usually they honor each other's salt water licenses. Things change every year tho, so definitely research that. Other than that a temporary license is around 10$
Idk I’ve caught A LOT of fish on frozen squid…
i thought you had to be 400 ft from the pier
I used a fresh caught blue crab and got absolutely nothing
It's cool how your wife is so enthusiastic about fishing. More women should get into fishing.
These small hooks don't bend!?
Just sayin'!
decent video but it should have been at least 5 minutes shorter.
