That’s about the smartest compromise I’ve seen lol. My husband collects little action figures and such as well. I hate them being out randomly around our house lol I think I might do this on the shelf in our closet and surprise him!
Definitely put them in the closet! He will probably appreciate having them all in one spot that he can admire anytime he wants to 😂
My husband has a shelf by his work desk where he keeps all of his figures and little nerdy things. We have the rest of our home only with stuff that we both like, but we each customized our work spaces with what we like and what inspires us. It makes for kind of an interesting split office space but it works for us.
My hubby works from home. The majority of his models and figures live in his office. I have my own where all my clothes, books, collections, etc live. No fighting, we just close the door.

We had snow too in Minnesota, definitely was excited to see a new video I've been in a funky mood lately I think its because I'm high risk and I'm just missing everyday life and honestly I miss working so her videos have inspired me to work on my home and enjoy this time getting my home together rather never having time to do so except for weekends normally and let's be honest how much can we really accomplish with only 2 days off during summer with gardening tending to the lawn, home projects and just wanting to be out in the nice weather. So I've accomplished so much during this time but last few days has me in a crazy down mood and cant shake it until about 8 or 9 PM when I should be winding down but then get that burst of energy late at night rather than early in the day like I was hey I'm still getting my bed made the each morning so that's a plus.
You have nothing to be embarrassed about and everything to be proud of! You tackled the closet you were dreading! HIGH FIVE! I loved when you opened the suitcase and found the holiday items inside... feeling pretty nostalgic about travelling these days!
We are wanting to travel too! We weren’t even considering it until we were quarantined...and now we desperately want to get out and travel away from the house for a bit 😂

Konmari isn’t just about sparking joy, it’s about tackling the items by category, rather than by room or area, and doing the categories in a specific order (with sentimental items saved for last). It’s also not about being ruthless or minimalist. You can keep everything if you want with Konmari, as long as it brings you joy or serves a purpose. However going by category usually means that you realize that you have way more of a type of item than you want or need. Regardless, it’s your stuff, so do it however you like!
Hi Megan! I love your channel so much! I check your channel every day or two for new videos. In this case I have to add that if you would not take all the clothes out and declutter from the closet directly - you would be way out of from konmari method. Because one of the principle is to collect all the clothes you have in one place/pile and realize how much you really have. (I am abstracting of your hoodies you have in other room - i told you, i watch your videos :D). It is not only about "sparking joy". That can be the reason, why people leave those comments. But being honest with you, i totally respect your methods and decisions. Its your channel. Actually, cant wait for the next video! Cheers from Slovakia!!!

I just did this a couple of days ago and you're right! "Sparks joy" has a different meaning for everyone and for everything that you declutter. For me, clothes that spark joy are the ones that I wear all the time and the ones that I feel comfortable in. I still have a lot of clothes but they are at least used and worn rather than being left in the back of my closet. In other terms like sentimental items are hard because they always spark joy in those exact terms. Those are good memories and things I want to keep as a remembrance...which I have a lot of and I don't care if people think it's a waste of space.
My husband is like that too! He wants to keep everything for sentimental value

Idkw but I love closet clean and declutter and this one did not disappoint. I like the way you don't take negative comments too personally because. Naturally since there are so many personalities that what works for one doesn't necisarily work for another. What sparks joy go someone joy doesn't for another. It's all relative. So no need to get too bent out of shape due to negative comments. I like your attitude

I literally love watching cleaning videos, like the other day, I was watching them and it motivated me to clean my room, reorganize it, and rearrange it. My room was messy.
I have two things i use for my shoes. One is a shoe cube cabinet i bought at Walmart i think. And the compartments are big enough you can put three pairs of flip flops in one space. The other thing i use are the clear shoe boxes from the dollar tree. This system has worked great for me and I’m excited when i look in my closet. 😁❤️

I think “kon mari” is like ‘Kleenex”, they are each a brand, but there are many variations.
mspippagirl there are many variations of decluttering, cleaning, and organizing for sure. Konmari is just a specific way of doing it. Everyone’s allowed to tackle their belongings the way they like, it just doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s aligned to a specific method. And that’s ok too.
By Kleenex you mean facial tissue, right...cause Kleenex is a brand...

I bought a medium sized rectangular ottoman at TJ Maxx that opens up and stores shoes inside! It has little fabric pockets for each pair of shoes on the sides, and the middle is wide open to store bigger pairs of shoes like boots that won't fit in the pockets! It is super helpful for me who also has a ton of shoes... because when you open up the top you can see everything right in front of you!

You can get a hanging shoe organizer to hang on the back of your bedroom door for your shoes. That's how I organized my shoes since my closet doors slide left to right and vice versa (with one door- left one on the side my cute tops are) fell off the track, can't hang a shoe organizer on them. Also, if you have storage space under your bed, you can use an under-bed storage container for your shoes too.

Use the rack in the bottom of your closet for your most worn shoes, and then use a shoe rack or tree for the rest of them. Displays all of them and won’t squish them. Sandals can go in one of those hanging organizers that are like less than $10 :) makes a huuuuuuuuge difference
The shelf at the bottom has never worked well for me with the shoes.
People tend to be way more ruthless and hateful with their words when they hide behind the computer screens. Just filter out specific words from your comments settings & relax!💜

You could use the craft cart for your shoes! that’s what I do and it works quite well for me! I tend to rotate my shoes by my most worn on a shoe shelf (like the one at the bottom of your closet) and all of my lesser worn shoes go on the cart for rotation!

My partner has his “office” and I have the rest of the house.. doesn’t sound fair but he has an insane about of marvel and DC items and it was literally over taking our house. Now he has it all nicely put in his office and the compromise was great. I’m all for that and glad you mentioned it in this video it’s a more realistic approach

I would suggest you put your current season of shoes on the wire racks and have an empty bin on the left still of the floor or up above for out of season shoes...that's what works for me.
I am going to be removing the wire rack, but I have been considering a new shoe rack
Omg, people need to quit telling you how to take care of you. My closet is full and I decluttered it. It doesn’t mean when you are decluttering to go minimalist. People keep what makes you happy. Your closet looks great. Can’t wait for more ❤️. Me and my husbands bedroom looks like a teenagers room lol. We have our toys on shelves and posters on the wall lol. I’m never gonna grow up lol. I’m 44 in July lol.

Decluttering is a very personal process. AND it is a continuous process.
I find that you must adapt the different cleaning and decluttering processes to the individual.
Personally I love looking at wooden/woven baskets but find they usually get destroyed quickly by my dogs and cats, so I don't have any in my home.
Its obvious to me that you love what you've done in your closet, and it inspires me to make changes in my closet that is about a third of the size of your closet.

I totally know what you mean about loving the look of things but not being able to use them in your home. We have two small children & 2 dogs...so that eliminates a lot of options for us too 😂 but we still make it work
It may be hard for you to access all your shoes if they are packed in a box; I am putting all my seasonal shoes on a rack so I can see everything I have, and I would put all my not seasonal shoes in a closed box under my bed.
Also if you want your dressing to look a little bit more organized, you can sort the hanging items by color instead of category, I think it gives a clean vibe to it. I don't have any problems when looking for a specific item because even though they are not sorted by category I know what I have and which color it is. Good luck with your decluttering journey, you did a good job on this one!

You sweet women! My husband’s collectibles are small tractors and some are from his childhood. ORANGE tractors. Trying to decorate around them has been impossible but he loves them so much I could never take that away from him. I’m still trying to find a solution to display them without loosing my own mind.

Your right, there’s no right way to declutter. Marie Kondo style is known for keeping things that spark joy. But in reality I keep my can opener not because it sparks joy, I keep it because I need it and it’s useful. Lol. Everyone has to do things their way and as long as you love or need what your keeping it’s all good. It’s great that there are people that can live with very little. I live with less than I use to but it’s definitely an ongoing process.

At Ikea they sell those super handy shoe racks! We have them at home and you can super easily stack them on top of each other!

I find as I’ve been decluttering over the last couple years I go back to place an iliminate more each time till I get to a place I’m comfy with. For your crafts you might try using clear containers. If you can see what’s in each container you might be motivate to make sth

Fact: you’re decluttering your house and deciding what to keep based on what sparks joy
Fact: people shouldn’t comment negatively on your progress. Everyone has their own journey.
Fact: you are not following the konmari method. You have taken her idea of spark joy and applied it to what works for you which is wonderful. No one should hate on you for that. This is not a negative comment, I’m just guessing that the negative comments you receive are because you’re saying you’re following the konmari method when in reality you’re just doing a kick a** job decluttering your closet. Suggestion, you could say you’re inspired by Marie Kondo and her method. I don’t think many people can argue with that. But this is your channel and you do you and keep up on your amazing progress!

Some people don’t realize that if you live in less than 1500 sq ft is just difficult to look like you are getting rid of enough clutter. I have the same problem so I find your videos inspiring. Try under bed storage for your shoes . Thanks
Leave the handles on so it’s easy for you to get out and carry around to complete project. Honestly I think Cary was better idea, but a different location might be better.

My whole house needs decluttering and I’ve started the process. Being home has allowed me to see just how much things need to be gotten rid of. My husband refuses to get rid of anything. He keeps saying he might need it one day and he continues to accumulate new clothing 🤦🏾♀️. I’ve secretly started to watch what he wears and doesn’t wear and I’ve decided when the season is over I’m going to donate the stuff he hasn’t worn 🤫. Did you ever find a way to organize your shoes? I’ve seen people use hanging cubbies for the closet. Unfortunately my closet is even smaller than yours so that wouldn’t work for me 😩. Thank you for sharing with us. I’m looking forward to more of your videos 😀

You did a great job I did my closet too and I was worthless like you said and I had my winter and summer clothes in same closet so I put all my winter clothes in vacuumed bags and it felt so much better
Our weather is always crazy, one day it’s 88 and the next it’s 50 degrees outside 😩 so I just leave everything out year round!

I grabbed the same baskets at target too! I had my husband cut off the handle for me and I’ve used them in the living room for remotes and such. Super easy to cut it off without messing it up👍

I don't think the baskets look very "Eastery" to begin with. But if that's your vibe, keep them for next year. However, I think they look more like neutral storage so I would chop those handles right off.

Use the shelf on the bottom of the closet as a shoe rack and then put a shoe rack in the open part of the bottom of the closet to store even more shoes. Sandals in a bin are an easy way to store, but other shoes should be on shelves

Totally get that, I hate them too. You could take it out and just do shoe racks along the bottom. You can get them for so cheap at a lot of places!
