Have some unkind words… but I can’t think of any.
I missed "GMs actually fixing issues and bugs while providing a show as players waited for the solutions". There used to be morphing into dreadlords, flower beams, making players fly and shapeshift into murlocs. Just for fun while we waited for our quest to get un-bugged real time.
This GM made his orc warrior a giant ten times taller and gave himself raid boss stats and then took Wintergrasp with us.
It was also the advertising they did. They had so many celebs doing commercials that played almost every hour for months.

My son was 14 and we played WoW together as he grew up. You made the points about society changing. I can play the new game but I could never recreate that.
Agree the GDKP and min/max community force the others to play like them or not play at all.

Man if I could travel back in time and relive WotLK as it was all over again I totally would. Faults, quirks and all. It was the most fun I’ve had in a video game, still beats out EldenSoulsBorne, Borderlands, Hollowknight and Dead Space. Paladins were just so good back then and it was the last time talent trees could actually be unique if you wanted it to. I’m riding that nostalgia train and I’ll jump back in since leaving during Cata but for Wrath Classic
I'm just too used to modern conveniences to go back sadly. I'm sure at the time I'd have love the game, but as it is right now I'd just be upset at how much worse everyone was haha.

The complete failure of taking care of bots properly AND actively/publicly banning gold buyers is the one thing that ruined Classic more than everything else combined. Just a few people per server paid to monitor them would go SUCH a long way. This is what led to hyper inflation and the cancer of pay2win with extra steps through GDKPs, which are an absolute plague now, there's literally no normal run left for pugs on some servers.
And you cant even blame the non-gold buyers, when the economy and inflation is out of control and the cash you can make in a GDKP is orders of magnitude higher than what you could grind, it's an easy choice. This is completely a failure on Blizzard's shoulders. That and their ultimate betrayal of the Classsic spirit outright selling boost/shop items completely killed Classic for me, and even though TBC/WotLK were great I simply wont give Blizzard another dime for all these failures. Quit about the same time as MadSeason, and for the same reason. Very sad situation though.
At least we had a pretty good run of vanilla, back when it was just a passion project propped to life by old devs. Remember when Blizz thought 3 servers would be enough for North America?
Nice video young man , I started my WoW journey playing WOTLK ( Cue lvl 58 DK berating me for not playing Classic ) and I've still got many fond memories of those times . True it's not going to be the same second time around but I'll still have a blast playing it again , liked / subbed / dinged that bell and am looking forward to your future content 😉

been saying a lot of what u said for a while now.... in one way content creators have kinda actually ruined gaming for many like myself.... people don't get it... people don't relax and enjoy the experiences like they use to... they just want everything now!! and then they get it the easiest cheesiest way...then they get bored and quit...and then all these modern features put there for THESE PEOPLE are there ruining the game for the rest of us actual true gamers.... anyone defensive about the last part is probably part of the problem lol
It'll be a festival of min-maxers, gold sellers and people bitching about gender politics long gone are the days of nostalgia and the unknown of games and exploration. Also, addon usage is through the roof with damage meters.
Can confirm. Leveled a DK in prepatch and there was a massive long argument about gender in chat.
I am willing to bet Wrath Classic we will see almost no new players enter the ecosystem, by ToC alot of casual players will completely fall off. And its mostly the fault of the playerbase. I noticed in BC alot of guild just completely stopped doing alt raid nights of the previous tier, and instead just did GDKPs with a few items hard reserved. Alot of guild will just straight up reject anyone that doesn't have at least mostly previous tier gear.
How is a new player supposed to get started? Or even a casual player or returning one? The price items go for in GDKPs have skyrocketed as gold buyers injected bought gold into the economy. Guilds wont take you if you dont have the gear and logs, and you cant ever hope to get gear now without gold to buy it in a GDKP. I see alot of GDKPs even posting that buyers dont get cuts now, so they are just hoarding more gold for themselves.
Meanwhile they will bitch and complain that Blizzard ruined Classic. It stopped being about fun and enjoyment and started being about spreadsheets and pivot tables for these people. Like a second fucking job.
I stopped playing about the time Sunwell came out, because there just wasnt any enjoyment anymore. Every guild that running onslaught/thatsmybis loot system, every BT/Hyjal pug was a GDKP, you couldnt farm gold open world since there we bots everywhere, and everyone was basically raid logging. I dont think I'll return for Wrath.
rolled on the fresh PvE realm, really chill so far... no raiding yet, though, so we will see..
I am a hardcore retail player and what you are talking about has even deterred me from playing classic. I always wanted to play classic but Blizzard took so long to come out with it that everyone developed massive skill and awareness of the game on private servers turning the actual legit classic experience into a solved game for the best players. Essentially all the realm firsts are going to go to private server people and basically no prestige will go to players trying to learn things on the spot. There is no spirit of fair competition.
@@jackmiddleton2080 there is no fair competition in WoW raiding... retail or classic... retail has split runs galore, with people paying millions for gear.. classic has private server nerds who have min/maxed wrath for a decade.

@@H41030v3rki110ny0u You're right though one of the problems with retail for me has always been that some people get into beta and some don't. And usually the top guilds get into beta so they are not even competing under the same conditions as the rest of us.

Excuse me sir I just wanted to mention that the reason there were no teamspeak 3 servers with 40k people back then was because ts3 was not out yet, we were still using teamspeak 2 akshullyyyyyy🤓

I think this is more relevant to classic than wotlk classic. Things were pretty optimised by the time wotlk came out.

WOTLK was the best xpac for me, I won't be returning because I want to remember it, and that time period of my life exactly as is.
The automatic banning part just reminds me of runescape customer service. Orthe lack of.

To me if Wotlk classic succeeds it will show that the game didnt need to change so much over the last 14 years. It will show that this version of the game can stand the test of time and I hope they do Wotlk+. I'd like to see new classes transmog and account wide mounts and achieves but keep the graphics oldschool and the gameplay the same. We are in a new universe and hopefully they write a new story with this fresh start.
That requires new staff and seeing as how they've just laid off 800 employees a few months ago while posting record profits, I doubt it'll happen. Can't profit if you've got staff to pay.

Almost everything that you're stating that "wasn't there back then" literally started in WotLK. Was it as Widespread? Not even close. But it was still there, and most endgame players utilized/followed them.
It's not going to be the same because the people playing are not the same. It's just as simple like that, because we are playing an MMO were your experience it's dictated by the people that you play with.
Penultimate does not mean ultimate.
Just don't play with sweats, it's easy. Look for a guild comprised of people who have a similar mindset as whatever you're looking to get out of the game.

Haven't even seen any advertisements for wotlk on twitch. Honestly looks like the last go for numerous boomers who didn't play wotlk or have their fill of it way back when.

@@EbonhardtTV While I have gripes about it, it's a downright miracle they've maintained such an incredibly positive community in a sea of toxicity. I mean I've played League and Dota and WoW. Still getting used to the fact people don't automatically leave the group after a wipe.
I'll still be playing WoTLK but I just wish more newcomers found interest in it. Really makes this expansion feel kind of bittersweet
I 100% agree. It's a 20yo game and whilst it still has a giant amount of toxicity, it's still a positive and well off game for most of the community.
It would be nice if they made the game easier to get into for new players, but hey, maybe Classic+ someday, you know.
@@EbonhardtTV Oh, sorry. The first part was aimed towards FFXIV as in I never saw a game that had a more positive community than FFXIV. To the point where I've had people detail every single mechanic before a raid or dungeon started, and offer mentorship after the pug-run. I didn't think there was a community like that anymore in MMOs.
I simply wish that Activision Blizz would find better ways to market WoTLK. I knew a couple of coworkers who actually did play WoTLK had NO CLUE Wrath was coming out. They knew about Classic WoW coming out, but not Wrath. That's how absent this version of the game is from the public's consciousness. It's genuinely sort of alarming. Blizz has always gone out of their way to make a big show of their expansions, and while Wrath isn't exactly new, it's still their most-loved version of WoW. There's no new rotation of new, fresh players coming to replace those who may have unsubbed or felt burnt out. Really makes it feel like this is the last chance we get to actually experience WoW at it's peak... even if it's highly altered.
The thing is... Why would zoomers choose to play a game where they are automatically at a massive disadvantage due to joining late and lacking experience? I have done world 30 raiding and have rank 1 parses and even I often don't want to play WoW because I don't want to compete against people that have been playing the game everyday of their life for 18 years. That is why I never got into PVP as that is even more dominated by the accrual of experience. At least raids are constantly new and must be figured out.

Yeah considering back then when my original account got hacked and locked out from me they just told me straight away. You could just go buy a new key and play right away.
Update LF dungeon is gone and from level 1-70 it's hard to find and enjoy dungeon.....also a boost is 50$ and a sub is 15$ even though blizzard SPAT on us on last 3 expansions

I think you are kinda wrong. You are wrong about the majority of things you say in this imo. There were guides for everything back in the day just like there are now and there were hardcore players that understood everything that players understand today. I think players will be surprised at how difficult the game is going to be and it wont be a push over. But yes of course the players that played on private servers of Wrath for 10 years straight WILL push over the raids.
So basically amateur players will see these private server veterans knocking over raids and then they will say "see, it is much easier, we are so much smarter today, people used to suck". While in reality I predict that when you remove the private server players and the players that already cleared the raids back in the day, the remaining players will clear the raiding content at a LOWER percentage rate than they did 13 years ago. This is simply because they will not be approaching the raids with the same time dedication as they would have back when WoW was the hottest game. In short... You are not prepared.

Exactly, it'll be a fantastic game, but #somechanges is also the playerbase itself. We've changed, matured and play games in a modern way. Memories will be made, but completely different types of ones haha.

Boring expansion for me and i did it all originally, was a serious raider that downed lk25HM. That crusade colloseum raid and quests are frickin boring and super repeatative. Dks are stupidly broken. Ulduar is kinda cool tho. TBC was a better expansion imo.

I agree that everything is offered on silver plate on us and there's no hype anymore (modern wow) . heck back in the days I didn't even know English at all so had to guess what the texts meant and asked others to help lol. but the players changed, so did I. Have no time for the game anymore

Nah chief, 2008 wrath > wrath classic. Everyone agrees wrath right now is boring as fuck and I doubt ulduar will be different. The release of each patch is not a suprise, people stockpiling 100,000,000 titanium ore will make epic gems just an instant upgrade-over gem, new mechanics giving players dps at expansion start that's on-par with full bis with shadowmourne along with all the other changes is killing the game.
Unholy dk snapshotting and doing 17k dps on some bosses in naxx? Yeah no, wasn't a thing. They changed the mechanics DRASTICALLY because they're cheap greedy fucks. They made snapshoting a thing cause having the server check for each individual unit when a lot are spawned was too taxing on blizzard's wallets. So all the ghouls in army of the dead are replicated bots that replicate from the snapshot stats and don't change.
Ideally the game would check the player's stats every half second for every pet of a player to determine the pet's stats, and if bloodlust or buffs are popped they would affect all the pets, etc.
None of this degenerate parsing shit would exist.
If you want genuine wrath of the lich king, go to warmane.
Honestly, I do agree with you. I sadly kind of quit Wrath of the Lich King Classic after some regular ass drama which caused the guild I was in to implode, but even if it hadn't, I still would have quit. WotLK Classic just didn't have that sticking power I was hoping it would have.
I don't know if Warmane would be it, but they definitely need to do something like Classic+ to make sure the game actually has something to it long term. We are never going to get that genuine WotLK experience again, so why not just actually make it better and more unique instead of what it currently is.
@Ebonhardt agreed. If you want the genuine wrath experience there are tons of private servers trying to keep it alive. It's not too shabby but ofc it won't be 100% blizzlike
