Agree on the critics who complain that these covers are not super sealed waterproof enclosures. If you are hauling unwrapped toilet paper in a rainstorm...get a cap! It's a truck!
How bout those who live in the North and can’t open the roll up cover because it freezes from condensation during the day ? I bought it and thought it was the shit until winter rolled up
I have a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and bought a BAK Revolver X4s fall of 2018. My rolling cover is an older model than this one on the video. I have not had any major problems with the cover. It even keeps out the water fairly well. Six years, and i am satisfied. The only recent issue is a felt strip that is designed to hold the slats from separating has come loose from the underside of the cover. I contacted BAK. Even though i am out of warranty, BAK said they have a newer model of the cover that uses a newer technology for holding the individual slats together, and they wanted to 'do right by me' and has replaced my cover for free. In a couple days, when i am off work, i am replacing the cover. Just roll it up; undo the 4 bolts; remove; put the new cover on; bolt it on; roll it out and done. I have put a lot of miles on my truck, hauling belongings and cargo between Pennsylvania and Georgia, and Florida, through rain, snow, heat, and scorching sun. I am happy with the performance of my BAK Revolver.
I installed a Bak Revolver 4X on my 2018 F-150 when new. It looked great and I was pleased with it. Now at 3 years old the covering material has started to crack and split along the rear slats. The rear slats also tend to jam up when folded and make it difficult to fold flat to close & latch it down. You didn't mention the price, but I paid about $1,000 for mine, 3 yrs ago. This is quite expensive for a top that has these issues after only 3 years. I am in Michigan and this truck is garage kept and doesn't stay out in the sun for long periods of time. I also want to mention that the water leaking in at the tailgate may not let much water in when on a level ground, but if you are not parked level, and the front of the truck is low, quite a bit of water can accumulate at the front of the bed.
I have none of those issues and it was pristine after 4 years. Mint. I live where we get hammered by winter and baked in the summer. So it’s been through a lot. Zero issue.
Hey, who are we kidding here? The real stars of this video are the stake pocket covers that let the rear of that cover blend in so well with the truck. Nice video! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
great video thank you, I have a revolver two trucks ago and then put a mx4 trifold on my superduty. I am getting ready to by a tremor F-150 and I am going back to the Revolver x4s on my new one. So much easier to open and close than a tri-fold and they roller cover has less water then any of my tri-folds. The last two MX4's I have had has a slow leak right in the middle of the cover. Bakflip has replaced it twice and same issue. I too agree I don't expect them to be 100% waterproof (then are not) but when going to the beach suits cases go in the middle and beach chairs, coolers go around the tailgate. great video...God bless
My truck has a bifold hard cover. Easy to install, has a lock on the front panel and a lock on the back panel. The front panel folds open, the back panels fold open for one or both or fold entire cover on the front panel and locked down. I live in Michigan it still works.
I purchased a BAK Revolver from Real Truck for my '22 Ford Maverick. Your video was my motivator. I am very happy with this product. I also wrote a review on Real Truck giving you credit. Thank you for posting.
My bak cover is 100% waterproof. Only because I hand wash and would never subject my baby to a automatic car wash 😮😮. Good video and I agree these covers are piece of mind that for the most part rain will not completely soak everything.
I have had this cover on my tundra for almost a year now. It has been replaced once under warranty because several of the aluminum slats came unhinged and the cover would not lay flat or lock down. Fortunately the manufacturer came good on the warranty and I had a new one in just a few days. The other issue I have with this cover is it does not like to roll in the winter when ice and snow come in contact with it. So if you need to roll this cover and you live in an area that actually gets winter then this is not the cover for you. I may be replacing mine, but I haven't found a suitable replacement yet.
I just put one of these on my Sierra and did a trip to Florida. We had some heavy rain and a little water came in around the tailgate. I will never use a toolbox as my storage as this cover is amazing locks everything in the bed. Not to mention, it looks really good!
Agreed. Same problem my Backflip trifold had before someone just pried it up and snapped off the locking bar (the one with the cable and plastic latches. I wish they had used a hangar and not damaged the cover! Except for maybe the Diamondback brand, none of these tonneau covers are stopping determined thieves. And you could pry open a Diamondback if you really want to.
On my 2018 GMC Sierra ultimate Denali has a Weather tech hard cover on it. Tri cover and NOT A DROP OF WATER HAS EVER ENTERED it.. thru storms and car washes. NEVER A DROP has gotten in. I honestly never knew water was even a problem with tonneau covers til I watch Utube. I am very happy with my weather tech now. For sure.
Had an earlier version of this cover on my 2015 Ram 2500 which I transferred to my 2019 Ram 3500. Love this thing 90%. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the older versions had buckles on nylon straps on the exterior front of the cover which is what the interior straps/buckles connected to when the cover was rolled up. This worked great except that the exterior buckle would flap around in the wind between the bed and the cab when the cover was rolled out. The buckle would flop around hitting the cab and the bed causing an irritating clatter when driving. I fixed the problem by glueing some Velcro on the buckle and the cover and sticking the buckles to the cover when not being used. This worked great, but looked kinda like a like it was… a fix for a poor design. I see they have fixed that problem now with a more intigrated exterior buckle. My truck was recently broken into when the scum jumped up on top of the cover and kicked in the back window of my truck. Unfortunatly, the rear window wasn’t nearly as tough as the cover since the window shattered easily, but the cover was unscathed by the thief jumping on it! I just ordered a new BAK Revolver X4s!
The Weathertech tri-fold hard cover is waterproof and can hold up to 400 lbs. Put one on my ‘20 F250 Platinum when I bought it in ‘20 and love it. Can fold it up and have no issues with the fifth wheel.
I've had this cover on my '19 Ram 1500 for 4 years, and I've been quite pleased with it. I have a new Tundra on order, and I'm trying to decide what I want on this next truck. My only really complaint with the X4 was how handled Minnesota winters. Water would seep into the tracks and make it almost impossible to roll up. It wasn't a big deal for me, since my truck was mostly in the garage, but every once in a while it became almost non-functional. Any thoughts on better solutions for harsh winter climates?
Had a prior version of this that lasted a good 5 years. AVOID if you live in a cold climate….not a huge issue in NC but if temps are below freezing it will not roll up, period. Maybe new material doesn’t freeze solid.
I live in Wisconsin and understand your point. After physically pushing the rail flap a few times, everything worked fine. Considering how often I wash the salt off, I expected more problems.
Agreed. I live in MN and this cover freezes easier than any other cover I have had. There is zero chance I could lift it without ripping the seals most winter days.
The way It locks in is by the metal latch as you look at The aluminum that comes up on the sides once the covers down it locks into those grooves of the aluminum grooves on the cover
I did love the safety aspect of the cover not so much on your water test from the car wash. Im sure that if it was just a down pour the water leakage would be none or way less then the car wash. I have a different cover for my truck that I failed to add a foam strip at the front of the bed. At car washes I get some water leakage but its way way less then you showed on yours. For the amount of money that you paid the safety aspect is great for a cover I think that it could have been better on the car wash test but like I said it is probably non existent in a regular rain storm. Oh and while my cover doesnt have a better security it was way cheaper. I just bought it for improving my gas milage which it did add very little lol.
Unless you live in the south. I've had two Bakflip Revolvers, my neighbor has had two, and my brother in law has had one. On every single one, after 2-3 years in the Texas sun, the vinyl starts shrinking and failing around the edges. Well-documented issue with the Revolver and southern temps.
Great review of this tonneau cover man!! I’ve been eying up this type of cover because of the sleekness and compatibility with having a motorcycle in the bed (dirtbike and street bike). You confirmed what I was thinking.
After one year of use, the material broke, the company did not accept the repair under the warranty. I bought a new cover from LEER, it is so far great, made in the USA.
Wow - I've been thinking about getting one for better security but my Extang Trifecta 2.0, which came with the truck when I bought it a few years ago - only 16,000 miles, doesn't leak in the car wash and has only slightly leaked a little during some severe rainstorms here on the coast. Not sure if I want to switch it out now - thanks for the great job reviewing!
I've owned 5 trucks over the years and always bought Extang Classic Platinum which is a snap down cover. That was discontinued. They had the Black Max which is close but unsnaps on all 4 sides instead of 3. That one is now discontinued as well. Extang no longer has anything I'm interested in for the truck I have on order. I'm looking at Truxedo Sentry and Bak Revolver X4S. I'm leaning more towards the Bak because most say the tail gate will go up without having to open the cover. Some are saying that on the Sentry, you can trim or reverse the the rubber strip and it will then work.
I installed the BAK Revolver X4 on my 2019 F450...lasted just over a year before the glue failed between the vinal and aluminium. It looked super nice and functioned well, but it did not hold up. Big disappointment for the price point and expectations.
Good review. I went with the Bakflip MX4 for my Tundra. It has 4 panels instead of 3 (6 1/2 foot bed). This is my third MX4 and I've been very pleased with all of them.
@@tommeier5714 . Material mx4 is made of is the problem. Water stays on top of the cover and freezes. It’s impossible to remove ice that builds up, specially when it’s snowing also. Surface of mx4 isn’t completly flat like a window, that’s why ice sticks to it like glue. Won’t work to scrape it. Now that doesn’t sound like a big problem until you read the manual which states you cannot open it when there’s ice on the cover. Doesn’t say why but guessing you will damage it and then your warranty won’t cover it. Where i live temperature is close to freezing or below most of winter so snow melts or sometimes it rains and then it all freezes. Maybe if you live in Canada and have real winter everyday it won’t be that bad but still i will never buy anything from BAK again cause it’s not waterproof and there was no info about it when i ordered mine. There’s a simple reason to why they don’t mention it. Hope it helps to make your decision.
I hope your X4 experience is better than mine. This is my second X4, as the first one I received the rails were too long for my tailgate to close, and the cover itself was too short. The company replaced both under warranty. The second cover I’ve had for two years. The glue holding the felt onto the underside has released and the felt has come off, and there is a 5 inch split in the top material right in a seam between two ribs. The weatherstripping on the rear edge has come off, and I’ve had to glue it back on. I really want to like this cover, but I’ve had too many problems with it.
The "S" version addressed many of those concerns (X4S). It doesn't help prior X4 owners, but I was impressed that Bak learned the weak points and made improvements on newer models. They replaced the felt with harder, rubberized plastic, improved the end-caps where it latches and improved the clamps that lock it in the rolled-up position.
Good to hear they improved it. This is my second one and as you mentioned I experienced the same problems. First one was replaced under warranty. My second one is falling apart as well. I really like those cover other than they don’t last more than 1 to 2 years before falling apart. I will look into the new model.
On my 3rd warranty of the Revolver X4S. BAK has awesome customer service and a great warranty but that particular cover has failed 3 times (including the original) in less than 2 years. They are sending me a BakFlip MX4 after the 3rd fail at no cost to me. The issue is with the aluminum rails, this cover is a great concept but with time the rails separate leaving humps in your cover. Not designed for someone that is in and out of the truck bed multiple times daily.
I’ve had mine for three years and love it. I see two improvements that address my issues with it. 1) the ribbing bumpers have been upgraded - they were a cloth material and the glue disintegrated. I removed it 2) the corners closest to the tailgate have been reinforced with plastic pieces. On mine the rubber seal that runs across the top rails tends to have a very slight rise from curling. Not a big issue just as esthetically unsightly. I might look into retrofitting if it’s possible.
Are you talking about the front seal attached to the cover? Mine looked like bacon. Bak sent a new one which wasn’t as deep and it’s perfect. It simply slides into a tract on the cover. All you have to do is cut it to length.
I had the original revolver and the x2. Both are in dumpster some where. Good until they freeze. They leak and like may have said you can easily break into them. I left BAK due to their lack of warranty and design flaws. Good luck
I have the X4 and like it a lot. I see yours has some improvements. At the tail end of the left and right flexible weatherstripping has some rigid flaps to keep the weatherstripping down, I wish they did that on the front as well. I see along the left and right underside, they removed the felt and replaced it with what looks like rubber or plastic. That is so your skin on your hand doesn’t get pinched in the pivot points of the slats when closing the cover.
Although thats true about finger pinching, the main function of the felt, and now rubber, is to not allow the aluminum slats to rub on the vinyl when you roll it up. The felt on my X2 was its biggest drawback, peeling off inside the first year of ownership. I wonder if BAK addressed the curved front edge of the RAM beds which is another failure point with my X2.
I recently saw the upgraded one and noticed the bare aluminum underneath is gone, which it also appeared in the video. I imagine they coated the bare aluminum so when the cover is down, items in the truck bed might rub the cover and don’t get black or dark gray from being in contact with the cover. In addition, when the cover is rolled up, it won’t rub bare aluminum onto the topside of the cover.
You missed 3 important issue....1) No mention of locking the cover in relation to the tail gate i.e. if the tail gate is unlocked, so is the cover. I have a retractable bed cover that can lock from the outside and prevents the tailgate from opening regardless if the tail gate locked or unlocked. 2) No mention of if the cover can be positioned anything less than full open without it rolling closed in the slipstream. 3) You claim any water intrusion at the tail gate will run down the back of the tail gate and out the bottom. Here in the West we have hills and water runs down hill. Clearly in your car wash video. Water is shown coming forward in the bed. So...going down slopes the water will run forward. Better have your non waterproof elevated on 2x4...etc.
Super awesome and helpful video. Your in-depth analysis was super helpful and I didn’t know backflip made a cover like this. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Cheers!!
My father in law has this topper and it’s an absolute pos after 2 years. The bakflip Aluminum is the best option. The fiberglass version absorbs water within 2 years and ends up weighing double what it did when new.
I've got this same cover installed on my 2021 Chevy Trailboss. Had to get it replaced twice. First time cover was not flat due to slats not connected properly, and second time the replacement weather stripping was cut. The 3nd replacement is good. Bak needs to get better quality control and do a final inspection on their products before they leave manufacturing. Happy with cover now, going on 2 months.
@@GearsGadgets okay thank you. I’m really wanting to get one but I know the reviews on the first models aren’t all that great because of how they broke down kinda quick and wasn’t sure if there was a recommendation on if this would last 5+ years
You need to look at retrax covers it is a cover that can be locked in eny position I can role it back to my gooseneck and lock it down it is aluminum I can walk on it. Hall stuff on top of it.
The reason why I went with my LEER hard tri-folding tonneau cover is because it has the pinch lock system and not the pull cable system because a coat hanger can't be use to open my pinch lock unlike the cable pull system. The reason I got it over the metal sliding tonneau cover is because of the space it takes when open is where i store my tool box. I have a huge rolling tool box and it works great with my Leer hard tri-folding tonneau cover.
Hope it lasts longer than my RevolverX2. I absolutely loved it until the 3rd year of ownership when the vinyl started to fail and delaminate. IMHO, if you live in the south don't get this type of cover UNLESS they're warranting their laminate process for more than just 3 yrs. Getting only 3 yrs out of a $1k cover is no bueno IMHO.
The felt fell off the inside of mine. Now it punches my fingers every time I roll it back out to it’s closed position. I wouldn’t recommend this cover.
@@jsboening this is the x4s which is an update, no more felt. They replaced it with plastic covers for the hinges which are mechanically held rather than using a glue. The other big fix was putting a plastic piece on the rear corners which keeps the jagged corner of the back plate from cutting through the vinyl and cutting your hand.
@@jsboening not that I've seen mentioned. When one of the RUclips channels that did a review was wrenching on the cover with a crowbar they did manage to pop it off, but that's clearly in the realm of extreme abuse =)
Nice review! I’ve had this exact cover sitting in my garage since April as my first build was sent to purgatory and now waiting on my second order to get here. Can’t wait to install it once I get my truck!
Did you get your Lightening Truck yet? Been a year, so hopefully. I'm looking at the time frame to gage when I might receive mine? I've been registered for over a year, but didn't get the Email from Ford to submit my Build until 11/27/22. Not sure how long now!
Great vid... I have been undecided between this and the MX4. I like the MX4 rigidity, but hate the blocking the rear window when it is fully folded up.
I purchased this cover about 3 years ago. I have had to replace the top cover three times with my final one now trash. These are NOT good in hot weather conditions. The vinyl top shrinks and literally the whole end starts to fall apart. One of the weakest point is the plastic end covers at the tailgate, They break right off and impossible to re- attach. I had high hopes for the cover but done with BAK . Spend the extra money and go with a retractable aluminum cover.
I’m on my second Revolver (Previously Roll-x). They work well. Dolly hey don’t stand up to the elements though. They rip and fall apart. Bummer. It’s the only one I can use that will clear my RV when it’s hitched on my short bed f350. Perhaps I’ll need to do more research because 3.5 years each is not long enough, IMO.
I'm one of those people that want my cover to be as water proof as possible. For what it's worth, if you want to review a great cover, I have had a Roll-n-Lock cover on for 2 years and I'd say it is 99.9% water proof. To be honest, I'm not sure if the couple drops that come in are from leakage or dripping in when I open the tailgate; it is so minimum, it doesn't matter. The two drawbacks to this cover are the space it takes up at the front of the bed, where it rolls up into the container and the strap required to pull it closed; this damn thing is always in the way LOL.
Very nice video, well done. We recently had a tonneau cover destroyed with the harsh WY wind (60mph side gusts) driving 75-80 on the interstate for several hours. I am looking for a replacement that will hopefully hold up in extreme wind.
This seems like the best choice! I had the retrax on my old 2006 Sierra with the 6.5" bed so I didn't mind that front box so much. With the 5.10" bed I'd like all the space possible. My truck sits outside all the time - how do you think the material will hold up to the sun and contaminants and bird poop?
Great point I have a six and a half foot bed and I was going to actually recommend to anybody who who is hauling their bike around the six and a half foot bed and then you can put any cover you want on there and you're not limited in your options at all
oh wow this is a newer version. i almost got the older one with bare underside, but the fabric came apart pretty quick, and my bak f1 didn't age well so i didn't wanna deal with that. i prefer the rolling ones, not a fan of the trifolds. i like the sentry i have on there now, especially the canvas vs vinyl, but i do like being able to close tailgate with cover down. hmm, not sure if it's "older", but x2 was one i saw. this one looks much nicer.
Thank you for the car wash test. I would expect some water to get in, my concern is about pooling and will it hurt anything long term. I think you covered that well.
I ordered one for my Ram 2500. It was about a half inch two narrow in the middle section of the cover and would not lock down. The second one was about a foot too narrow and the third one was the same. I called and they didn’t seem to care at all. I got my money back and went elsewhere.
I have this bed cover and it does not hold up to heat. I live in Las Vegas, the cover did not last 1 summer. This cover has way too many parts that are glued, and ALL OF THEM FAIL in the heat. First the 2 inner liners to avoid from burning hands when rolling open detached because its just glued, and that failed. Then the glue and rubber seal of the area closest to the rear window shrunk due to heat, and that ruined the entire vinyl, rubber seal and gasket. Also the entire top vinyl is glued to the actual aluminum tabs, so when the heats hits, it melts the glue causing the tabs to get misaligned and the tabs start pinching on top of each other and the cover does not close properly. And the worse is that water seals from each side is glued to the vinyl, so when the vinyl shrinks due to heat the rubber detached from the vinyl so now the whole thing is leaking and loose. Also all the video show people closing the cover with one hand, while this is possible after a few times doing that, the cover will start to create a dip in the middle from pressing down all the time, its just aluminum so it bends fairly easy. The product has potential to be great, but getting rid of all the vinyl is a must.
Great video I had the BAKFLIP MX4 before and loved it, but didn't like that I couldn't see out the back. Currently have the GATOR RECOIL and it SUCKS compared to Bakflip. I think I might try this one next.
I'm gonna order one for my 19 Ram. My Mopar fabric one has 3 micro rips from ice. I hope I can still keep my bed utility group cargo sys?? Buy a Kuryakyn soundbar plus for your softail.. put one on a RK...you won't regret it. Tks 4 da review.
Great video. Looking for another tonneau cover. My BAK G4 was pryed open (rivets separated from aluminum cover) although nothing was in the bed I still have a damaged cover. BAK has been very supportive so far. New part from BAK was ordered. Thanks for the great video!
They are great for one year in florida then no matter how much 303 you put on them they shrink and shrink. I got a replacement but it did the same thing. I am saving for a Paragon next. Going to break out the duct tape in the mean time.
I’m going on almost 2 months waiting for this cover to arrive undamaged. First one had a slat not connected, both plastic clips were destroyed and rails both scratched and missing paint. Took a week just for them to send a return label. Second cover came in good shape by itself. Sent rails separately and those were also scratched and missing paint. Best part is they forgot the mounting brackets for rails. They consider expedited about 2 weeks for returns. Currently I have no idea what’s going on, customer service is well trained at bullshitting you then dragging their feet. They could have just overnighted me the brackets but nope! I wish this wasn’t the only style of cover I wanted because I despise this company. If the next set by some miracle comes in good shape it will be a solid 2 months since I paid for it. For 1200 bucks I’d expect better. This was not back ordered either.
Just put on a gator efx on my 21 Chevrolet ltz. I looked at all different brands, had used a gator brand before, so I went that route. All the brands are pretty much equal it’s just a matter of preference. My new cover is a hard cover folding where as my last one was fabric
I had mine on my 2012 Toyota Tundra and loved it, until after 1 year. The vinyl shrunk and detached from the aluminum and was unable to open or close the cover. Good thing that the tonneau cover was still under warranty and was able to get a new one.
I heard that happening with the older covers by the X4s apparently fixed those issues, We will find out soon enough since my truck lives outside in Arizona.
@@GearsGadgets yes, I live in the Imperial Valley in South Cal and we get 118F° weather in the summer and all the adhesive gave up and all the vinyl and felt tape detached. Also, I have a friend that had the same issue on his GMC Sierra, but he was out of warranty. I guess this is a known issue on areas with extreme hot weather.
Never had water get in under a cover, at least nothing was wet later on like tent, mattress etc. As you said the test doesn't really prove anything anyways other then make great video because I have driven through some down pours and again back is bone dry. *shrug*
I have owned 2 of the Revolver X2 version covers and both have failed me. The heat of the sun melts the glue that adheres the vinyl material to the aluminum slats. The vinyl then shrinks and pulls away from the aluminum. This occurred at the rear portion above the tailgate on both units and only took 6-8 months. Keeping the vinyl conditioned with product did not help. Maybe the X4 is better designed. I too thought that I had found the best of covers and loved the design, but I was mistaken. Please keep us updated. I wish you the best of luck.
Had mine for 8 years in scorching heat/sun and never had a problem with the vinyl on top. The felt strips on the underside eventually lost their glue though. Dosent effect the functionality, but I think it helps you not pinch skin when rolling the cover.
@@GearsGadgets just installed it man. Love it already. Again thanks for the great video on it. This video has so much info on the cover. Most videos are “yea I like it” and don’t go into a lot of detail.
Great detailed video, way better than any others I’ve seen. I was wondering if you could do an update soon on how it’s holding up and if there are any issues you’ve had pop up
I picked up an MXM4 backflip from OfferUp didn't know what I was getting but now that I have it on my truck on my damn this thing is pretty nice! If it's not waterproof whatever I have a few towels I can use 😂 my equipment's not getting that wet thru this thing. Nice review 👍👍💯
Mx4 I mean lol.. bakflip I had all kinds of typos and that tonneau cover you have is very nice that's probably the best looking one they make I just needed something to keep the sticky fingers off my shit
I have a '21 Raptor. Tried a variety of covers over the years. I went back to the MX4. Missed the full bed access. The rear bed camera eliminates the blocked rear window argument. Even while driving the camera stays engaged.
I would agree with you if that was the case with my 21 however since Ford can’t seem to build MY21 trucks with the same software or push OTA’s to keep all 21’s on the road with the same feature sets, my 21 cameras don’t work while in motion. Ford builds a great truck but my lord their software team is WAY further behind than the ambitious trucks they are currently selling would lead you to believe.
Love the review! I wish I went with this instead of the Truxedo Sentry XT for my Tundra. It's similar to this but the sides don't lock down but has velcro instead which is obviously not as secure. This is definitely the best of all covers out there as I'm in the same situation with you hauling a motorcycle and having to use the entire bed and still see in the back
Love the design. Quality was not as good. Bought the first one with the truck. Lasted 2 yrs and delaminated. Vinyl on top shrunk in the summer heat. They replaced it but I am already seeing dimples in the vinyl after just one summer. They recommend using 303 protectant which I do regularly but doesn’t seem to solve the issue. Would not buy another without at least a 5 yr warranty.
My only issue is I have a 5th wheel hitch that I can barely see without a tonneau cover. It’s just visible at the bottom of the rear window. With the cover rolled up I would not be able to see it.
I have this on my 2020 F150. I hate it. Vinyl has shrank on edges, and it leaks all the time. You also can't just roll it out over a load. The quad cover used to be able to be out on its own weight if you had items in the bed.
Agree on the critics who complain that these covers are not super sealed waterproof enclosures. If you are hauling unwrapped toilet paper in a rainstorm...get a cap! It's a truck!
Amen... People's entitlement, and sense of proportion has gotten completely out of line the past 10yrs (if not 20).
Or throw it in the cab if you have a super crew

I had the same one and all the same issues. I got almost 7 years out of it don't know it that is good or bad.
Call in for your warranty!
Started out great but after my second one! It is junk!!
Very easy to break into. Speaking from experience. Coat hanger is all that is needed.
Pro effort on this video, bud. Informative, concise, great editing, natural on camera, camera on during car wash... Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words. Its a lot of work so its nice when it goes noticed.
Thank you for the review! The camera in the bed is great! This sealed the deal for me.
I have always used Velcro Covers and have never had a problem with anyone trying to steal anything.
And i have used these covers for over 20 years.
The rails on these things near the tailgates are unfinished and sharp. Bought one and now returning as they said, tough crap, this is how it is made.
Which version. X4 or X4s
Guessing you don’t have winter, snow and freezing temperature where you live. I bought one and will never do it again…
@@jaroslaw6080 what is the issue with winter weather with the MX4 vs this cover?
I wanna know about the plug in air compressor in the bed and the two swing out boxes! They look sweet!!
Very good review of this cover, I will be buying one for my 2018 Silverado. Thanks
Intersting. I haven't had any issues so far but I appreciate when my viewers share those kinds of experiences with me on products I've recommended.
@@GearsGadgets after owning it, how long do you think the cover will actually last?
@@ctmartin1319 hard to give predictive advice. I’m a couple months in and it’s fine. As of right now I don’t have any concerns.
@@GearsGadgets okay thank you. I’m really wanting to get one but I know the reviews on the first models aren’t all that great because of how they broke down kinda quick and wasn’t sure if there was a recommendation on if this would last 5+ years
3:16 was worth it for me. I have never seen those Swing Boxes before. Verry cool and now I'm looking at those.
Too bad the leer(650) doesn't have the latch on the second panel so you can just lift it up unfortunately.
The X4s has a 5 year warranty which should help but for $1000 it would be nice if it were more like 10 years
The felt fell off the inside of mine.
@@andrewfidel2220 that’s good to hear. Any problems with those plastic corners falling off?
@@jsboening not that I've seen mentioned. When one of the RUclips channels that did a review was wrenching on the cover with a crowbar they did manage to pop it off, but that's clearly in the realm of extreme abuse =)
Thank you for this awesome review! You answered all of my questions and concerns! Cheers!
One downside is it has only to positions, fully opened or closed.
With the fold-up and retractable you have more partially closed options.
Went with Leer HF650M after reading reviews on Bak's products and costumer service, more bad than good! Real happy with my Leer so far.
Great vid... I have been undecided between this and the MX4. I like the MX4 rigidity, but hate the blocking the rear window when it is fully folded up.
I had the mx4 on my 18 sierra and loved it. Just bought a 21 powerboost and I think I’m buying this one instead
I’ve got elevate rail kit, with rails of my fusion color matched trifold😂. Lots of weather seal but it’s dry as a bone. Full bed rug is dry
Thanks! Very useful video. Now I know what I need to get for my truck. 👍🏾
Thank you for the super thanks!!
Great review, I have been looking for a flush tonneau cover that can be removed easily for my ATV. Looks like this one is the best choice.
I’d also recommend the Diamondback covers those don’t leak either.
Great video! This just verifies that I’m making the right choice based on design and aesthetics. Thanks for making this video.
I am also in WYO, did you try this out?
This seems like the best choice! I had the retrax on my old 2006 Sierra with the 6.5" bed so I didn't mind that front box so much. With the 5.10" bed I'd like all the space possible. My truck sits outside all the time - how do you think the material will hold up to the sun and contaminants and bird poop?
Great point I have a six and a half foot bed and I was going to actually recommend to anybody who who is hauling their bike around the six and a half foot bed and then you can put any cover you want on there and you're not limited in your options at all
Also a fellow Phoenician. You've had it for some time, any issues? Do you find that it rattles a lot?
oh wow this is a newer version. i almost got the older one with bare underside, but the fabric came apart pretty quick, and my bak f1 didn't age well so i didn't wanna deal with that. i prefer the rolling ones, not a fan of the trifolds. i like the sentry i have on there now, especially the canvas vs vinyl, but i do like being able to close tailgate with cover down.
hmm, not sure if it's "older", but x2 was one i saw. this one looks much nicer.
My worries: the "cloth" on top. The velcro on the sides.
Thank you for the car wash test. I would expect some water to get in, my concern is about pooling and will it hurt anything long term. I think you covered that well.
That's not bad because my slide roll up cover leaks in a few different areas.
Nice....but I LOVE my WeatherTech Alloy tonneau. It's the best possible solution.
Made by Lomax I have the Lomax on my truck and it’s by far the best cover on the market
Nice video. Enjoyed hearing your perspective.
My BAK was easily broken into apparently they used a hook or small pry bar broke the plastic cover and latch area on drivers side.
Awesome video mate!
Great review just what I was looking for. Going to order one today!
Who did you buy it through
Wouldn't that cover be easy to defeat with a coat hanger due to the pull cords?
Badass review!
For those that complain about water leaking in ..stfu it's a truck !
Buy a trash bag and wrap that sht up!
Excellent video. Pretty much answered all my questions.
Great video! I just ordered one for my trail boss! Mainly wanted it for security purposes and for the sleek look honestly.
Good choice!
@@GearsGadgets just installed it man. Love it already. Again thanks for the great video on it. This video has so much info on the cover. Most videos are “yea I like it” and don’t go into a lot of detail.
Great detailed video, way better than any others I’ve seen. I was wondering if you could do an update soon on how it’s holding up and if there are any issues you’ve had pop up
I was just thinking about doing an update today. I will do it soon.
I have this cover on my 2500 Ram. I really like it.
Did you add an aftermarket power tailgate or its OEM ?
My F-150 does not have power tailgate I would like to add it if possible
I went with weather tech tri fold i like it so far. This one is pretty cool though
BAK should send you a check. You just sold one of their bed covers.
I will check the mail lol
I wish they made these for my Unicorn Truck.
I have a 2018 Nissan Titan Single Cab with a 8’3” bed
Great thorough review of the tonneau cover!
I have read of adhesive leaking issue with Bakflip products, and a lot of long term issues.
Dude, solid review to where you sold me.
