    Those who say her routines are "easy" are missing the point; that was the key to Nadias greatness, she was able to make it LOOK EASY;) Her uncanny ability to make tiny corrections in the air made everything look so seamless and perfect; she could feel if she took off wrongly and was able to make split second mental calculations to cover up any error, so it wasnt visible to anyone watching; that is the secret of her greatness, we will never see it again.

    I remember these Olympics simply because of Nadia. I was never a fan of gymnastics or any type of sports similar to this but Nadia was the one who showed me and I am sure the rest of the world not only the technical difficultly of gymnastics but also the beauty and grace that she displayed. Because of Nadia I have since enjoyed watching this sport and appreciate and in awe of both men and women and their commitment and dedication to their love of gymnastics. I will never forget the impact Nadia made at this Olympics Games...

    What was so incredible about Nadias gymnastics is her routines the following day always looked like a rerun of her routines the day before, they were so consistent and controlled; she could be woken at 3 in the morning and do the routine perfectly, she was a very well coached gymnast.

    So apparently the scoring system has changed. Not much of a gymnast fan but just heard about this. Also, why does this routine look so badass compared to the stuff you see today. I mean she uses both bars simultaneously whereas today they just bounce back and forth between bars.... and that landing when she whips her body around the low bar is something I have never seen in recent memory. nuts.

    I had the exact same reaction, I was like "wtf no one does that flying eagle dismount stuff anymore!" So, I went looking, turns out the uneven bars have been moved further apart over the years, especially through the late 70s and early 80s. Originally they were just parallel bars with one lower and so 17 to 20 inches apart. Now they are 40 to 64 inches apart (horizontally) So that kind of stuff isn't even possible anymore. Which is too bad, because it looks way cooler than what they do now.

    Nadia herself said she felt her feet shift; she said she had actually done the routine better in training, she felt her feet move on the landing. Not her fault she was given a 10 was it????The point is her routine was obviously so much better than everyone elses, and others had been given 9.9 so the judges HAD to give her a 10 you see? Although she deserved it anyway; the routine itself was consummate technical perfection, minus the landing.

    Yes, she had received many tens, as she herself would say; but this was the Olympics, the biggest sporting competition, the prize, and nobody had received a 10 here. So it wasnt "all for show". Who else had scored a 10 at the Olympics before Nadia?

    @bickly777 12 лет назад +3

    as much as i love seeing people break unbreakable records and doing near-impossible things, I have to agree that the little hop she had at the end would certainly have been a deduction by present day judges. she still would have gotton an outrageously high score though lol

    Not to take away from Nadia, but she did take a hop in the landing of her first uneven P-bar routine. That should have been at least a .2 deduction. However she probably
    earned it back in originality and virtuosity with the perfect execution of the main exercise.
