@@Visplight no one said you can’t compare them. You can do whatever you want. I said there’s no need to because there’s not. You accomplish nothing by comparing them.

Norm Lewis not only has the best vocal interpretation- he's the only actor who brings truth to Javert- who shows us the human side of a man who died for his truth- who was idealistic and lived and died for the law he believed in.
Completely agreed... His delivery of "Lord let me find him, that I may see him" almost sounds plaintiff...then BOOM "safe behind bars" and kind of parts from his humanity... That nuance in this song made me cry when it dawned. I did not get the same feeling with any other interpretation of the song or portrayal...
I completly agree but "idealistic" is the wrong word to describe the Javert`s character. Fanatic suits better for he hunted Valjean for the rest of his life because he broke his parole.
It's very difficult to compare Quast and Lewis. They portrayed 2 different versions of Javert. Quast conveyed a cold inflexible Javert, while Lewis portrayed a Javert as a man with passionate faith in his beliefs.
I mean, despite the incredible voice, that goes without saying, his presence as Javert is so intimidating, he's big, he has a deep voice to match, and the outfit he wears bulks him up to the point where I can believe he shapes his life around hunting criminals in the name of god.
Lewis is perfect for me. He seems very honest and most importantly, so human. It makes Javert a more complex and sympathetic person. It makes me keep thinking. "How did someone who seems so kind and sincere end up like that?"
My stars, what a VOICE the guy has! My definitive Javert - not only because of the voice but because, in the suicide scene, he brings out the character's vulnerability like no-one else. I can cry over his Javert.
his intonations and articulations while performing bring a spectrum of colour to javert that spellbinds me. I feel the confliction in the character, it evokes my compassion and understanding for the charcater in a way that changes each time i watch his performance. I feel the tragedy of his story. Other interpretations of the character for me dont always bring forth the vulnerability and conflict in the character as much as Mr. Lewis is able to. Simply incredible performance!!!!!
Omg his voice is awe inspiring! He has these beautiful chest tones! His voice has theatricality! The inflection in his voice! Just drives this song home! His voice is like a beautiful decadent chocolate.
Of all the Javerts I've heard, Norm Lewis is my favorite. Love the richness and strength of his Bass/baritone voice...tremendous interpretation of tremendous music
Under appreciated part of this is when he makes the sign of the cross. Javerts devoutness and sincere belief he's doing the Lords bidding adds so much depth.
I flew to London from Taiwan for this concert, you can find all my videos from the playlist of this concert. ruclips.net/p/PLac56AB3-al-0ulwjavlG-UzJYiBpMZ8Z
Anyone who was able to see 25th anniversary in person is incredibly lucky. By far the best version for many of the songs and just so unbelievably good in every way. I'm holding out hope for a massive 50th anniversary show
Norm Lewis is so incredibly brilliant and beautiful. He is perfect for this role and my favorite Javert. He is gorgeous to boot. His voice is perfect in this score as well. Always beautiful, but I've heard him sing a lot of songs. He's so talented, but in this score he's flawless and can't be beat.
Norm Lewis is so Awesome I just saw his performance 🎭 on Kelly & Ryan It Was Great I will definitely share this on social media and tell everybody I know for sure 😁👍🤩🤩
The best Javert. Absolutely beautiful voice but also shows the man who wants Justice. Not someone who just wants revenge but who truly desires Justice and dies for it❤
I’m so glad I found this!!!❤ he’s the best Javert I’ve heard recorded!!!!!😍 the others are good too, but his voice is exactly what I picture for Javert!!!❤ So powerful🙌 I wish this was recorded on iTunes😩
Norm Lewis is the reason that I, a woman, have Javert at the very top of my list of dream roles. Im well aware it'll never happen but...a contralto can dream 🤞
Im of the same opinion on this when i talk of Colm and Alfie, both Phillip and Norm are two quite different interpretations of the same character, but god are they both utterly incredible.
I wish I could sing this song one of my favorites from Les Mis! But alas I'm a cultura soprano I don't have the deep range to sing this song lol! So I'll leave to someone who can the phenomenal Norm Lewis!
His voice is better than any other actor who's played Javert. And he inhabits the character so completely. Brilliant performance! I so wish I could have seen him perform this live.
A friend of mine was in a Broadway show with him called "Chicken and Biscuits". And I kept referring to him as "he who shall be my husband", which cracked her up no end. Well? Does anyone blame me?
100% my favourite Javert. I can't believe I'm seeing him in concert tomorrow
Both Norm and Philip are just incredible. No need to compare the two, they are both extraordinary
What about Russel Crowe? He was obvs best Javert 🙄 everyone should learn to stop being wrong in saying he wasn't the best smh
We can absolutely compare them. Lewis is too sexy and you want him to catch you. Great singing, but it doesn't hit right - better as the phantom.

Norm Lewis is THE best version of Javert. I get goose bumps every time he sings.
Lacks power IMO the only man I know with tremendous power in his voice is Ramin Karimloo he does an amazing interpretation of this song.
It's very difficult to compare Quast and Lewis. They portrayed 2 different versions of Javert. Quast conveyed a cold inflexible Javert, while Lewis portrayed a Javert as a man with passionate faith in his beliefs.
Agreed. They played such different sides of the character. HOWEVER, they both sing it BRILLIANTLY! ❤️👍
indeed. very agree.
Both are my favorite Javerts

Bloomin gorgeous too❤

Still the best Javert for me, what an actor and what a voice. Brilliant.
He's got such an amazing voice!
He’s my favorite Javert!
There is a misguided Righteous Indignation in Norm Lewis’ performance that is undeniable!!!! BRAVO
Definitely an ESFJ
I was lucky enough to see Norm Lewis in Les Mis in London.
Always my favourite ❤
The best Javert by far, such passion and clearity , can't do it any better
Check out Philip Quast from the 10th anniversary. If u ask me THAT is how Javert's "Stars" shall be done.
Nah, Philip Quast is the best Javert and the best vocals for him
My favourite javert
@@TheKnowledgeMan101 Me three, Quast has the menace in his performance that the others lack. Norm Lewis did well here though.

Him and Philip should do a duet.
Absolute perfection!!! I can't even begin to compare him and Philip Quast, they both did Javert brilliantly
I come back to this video so often because it is just so damn good and inspiring
So jealous you saw this live! 😫😃
I am very lucky to be there😊
@@TimChen0913 Thank you for sharing my friend
Such a powerful voiceeee!
@@sarahfosnaught I would love to see him live- He's seems like such a lovely guy too.
Corellian_Smuggler 1138 I agree; his personality seems to be so humble. He, Alfie and Matt Lucas are my top three theater actors I’d love to meet!
I always love when Javert goes down on one knee, makes the sign of the cross because it shows his inner struggle of his faith and the law.
His golden voice again.
That is one serious voice playing Javert.
2:32 hits a part of my ears that have never been hit before :D
Right?? That clarity and resonance!! Woof.
i was always convinced that Philip Quast was THE Javert. But Norm adds so much! Plus he's a natural Bass.
I think he’s a baritone but yeah I’m with you
No no no. Quast or no one.. Grrrrrr 😍
Norm lewis is a baritone, not a bass. Norm's very close to being a bassbaritone, but he's not a bass singer for sure.
he is a very tough police
Best Javert. Norm obliterates the concurrence.
I don't know the slight shows of the American accent takes away from it for me
Nah, Philip Quast is better
Norm Lewis has the most magnificent voice!
Under appreciated part of this is when he makes the sign of the cross. Javerts devoutness and sincere belief he's doing the Lords bidding adds so much depth.

Norm Lewis is the standard. He is the blueprint!
Kinda messed up that this version isn't on Spotify anywhere. Like, damn, Norm killed that ish!
This sounds good enough for spotify here on RUclips so I feel like I'm listening to it on spotify
Anyone who was able to see 25th anniversary in person is incredibly lucky. By far the best version for many of the songs and just so unbelievably good in every way.
I'm holding out hope for a massive 50th anniversary show
There's a good chance the 40th anniversary next year could end up as the best.
Wonderful rendition by this "Star to the other stars", whose hard work is comparabe to his God-given gifts. Thank You, Mr. Lewis.
I could listen to this again and again! Norm Lewis is outstanding in this role!! Love it!
My first hearing of stars for.my wifes 40th 17 years ago , he was awsome 💙💙💙💙
i grew up on the 25th anniversary, norm lewis will always be my favourite javert, his passion and clarity with his voice is truly mesmerising to me
Norm Lewis is so incredibly brilliant and beautiful. He is perfect for this role and my favorite Javert. He is gorgeous to boot. His voice is perfect in this score as well. Always beautiful, but I've heard him sing a lot of songs. He's so talented, but in this score he's flawless and can't be beat.
Mein Gott! Was für ein Darsteller mit Stimme die unter die Haut geht!
Dam so many emotions. He beings the character to life in a way where I both respect and pity Javert.
I have never heard of this man before. My god, what a voice!
So so good ❤
Great voice. Great Javert.
He sings so effortlessly. Beautiful!
Norm Lewis makes a terrifying Javert, and does it so well with also giving him the soft, personal life, side.
Oh my gosh!! What a gorgeous voice this man has! Swoon😍❤
His voice is just unreal! So amazing! The best version of this song on the internet right now.
I absolutely loved him in this and in jesus christ superstar.
My 2 favorite roles of his ❤
Tbh, this was the performance that made me a fan of his
He gives a unique and distinctive voice to the character which I love ❤️
He did such an awesome job with this!!! I just wish he had more roles like this!
가장 자베르 감정이 들어가있는 그리고 최고의 감정. 보고시픈데....
CHILLS CHILLS CHILLS. HOW he wasn’t considered and Russell Crowe was chosen will forever baffle me
I know right! Seriously!
Right lol
Tbf, they'd probably do the same with what they did with Samantha Barks and tell him to tone down his singing so the rest can actually stand out.
Omgggggggggg I never thought anyone could equal Quast, but this version is incredible too.
wow this guy fully emodies Javier! its terrifyingly brilliant
the strings are breathtaking! i love the way they composed this!
Just watched the 25th Anniversary with Norm Lewis as Javert. He, in my opinion, is the best I have ever heard in this role! Bravo!
The GOAT...
Amazing, what a voice!!! This man is incredible, the best Javert, no doubts.
Phillip Quast is the best!
He does not get enough credit for this! Absolutely flawless! What an amazing voice he carries 💝
Everyone remembers their first Javert....and Norm Lewis was mine
First and best for me ❤
His voice brings the authority and gravitas needed for the song / character. He's my personal favorite. I just love deeper, richer male voices.
….tillllll ✨🙌🏻🌌tHEEEENNNNNNNNNN🌌🙌🏻✨….

What an amazing voice❤️
Awesome 🌟❤️❤️❤️
There is a misguided righteous indignation in this performance by Norm Lewis that is undeniable!!!
god he's brilliant, as a compulsive watcher of versions of this song
The best Javert. Absolutely beautiful voice but also shows the man who wants Justice. Not someone who just wants revenge but who truly desires Justice and dies for it❤
my spine shivers.... the best Javert.

So moving and emotional.
Phillip Quast is amazing, but this just tugs my heart.
Esse homem é simplesmente sensacional!! Um artista maravilhoso!! Canta e interpreta muito!! 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

I can't speak english well, I only say you are Incredible
you are best in the whole universe
Without doubt Norm is absolutely brilliant in this part - no one comes close 👌🏽
Phillip Quast is the best!
The most incredible and powerful rendition of the song. Exceptional javert
Sends chills down my spine. So good. The best Javert I have ever heard.
Norm Lewis is the reason that I, a woman, have Javert at the very top of my list of dream roles. Im well aware it'll never happen but...a contralto can dream 🤞
GOAT Lewis.

I like this rendition just as well as Quast's rendition. He got the authoritativeness of Javert's character and stance right.
This is amazing!
I like this cool song and amazing this make me cry the best and thank you my name is Craig king from south west wales 🏴 Pembrokeshire
small world! i'm also in pembrokeshire
Daaaaaaaaaaam. 🔥
What a spectacular Mufasa Norm would have made in the Lion King play.
The best interpretation of this song i have heard so far (except Philip Quast of course)
If I could sing like that I would never shut up
That boy good!!$
He's a grown man, not a boy
Sexual Chocolate!!!
I grew up watching this concert over and over again so I'm definitely biased but I just can't help Norm Lewis being my favorite Javert
Really wish he had been hired for the movie
His voice is better than any other actor who's played Javert. And he inhabits the character so completely. Brilliant performance! I so wish I could have seen him perform this live.
