I was slightly worried about the high notes when I heard a baritone would be the Phantom. Mr Lewis put my doubts to rest quickly. I love the richer sound.
Ha55150n Gration yes, still you can listen several other recordings where he hits notes higher than this a flat. On his album This is the life, he sustains several b flats, one high C and so on. There is even a video of him singing a high C live. This made me write this comment.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I want someone to make a Broadway musical of Candyman starring Norm in the title role. He's a very Phantom-esque figure, and Norm's deep, velvety voice would be the perfect musical equivalent to Tony Todd's ICONIC deep speaking voice. Random comment, I know, but that idea popped into my head a few months ago, and I haven't been able to shake it. (Beautiful performance, by the way!)
i guess im randomly asking but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
Mister Norm Lewis gives it a different vibe to the character. I really appreciate a baritone developing the role, which is not very common. I cannot think of another baritone on Broadway playing the role? Besides, I love Norm Lewis voice and charisma on stage, he can do no wrong :) No need of comparison just enjoy what you listen to :)
gladys cabezas My theory is we all hear things differently, just like we taste them differently (which still doesn't explain why my son in law only likes about six foods, but....). Obviously, the lower, more powerful ranges like Alfie Boe and Norm Lewis are my favorites, but other than Nick Jonas trying to be Marius, I enjoy most singers. I realize Michael Ball sadly never got to be Jesus in JCSS but damn - what he does with ”Gethsemane” - that I probably misspelled - is amazing. I preferred his version as well as Colm’s to the more rock style. Why we have chocolate and vanilla! (and because my son in law will only EAT the vanilla....)
@@MrsEJV I agree with everything you said, miss Verill. Love this version and I love watching a good artist. Bariton´s voices are my favourite flavor though :D I would love to watch a dvd version with him and Sierra.
What a ridiculously great talent. I'm surprised that he can sing like that without getting into it anymore than he does. You can tell he's just enjoying himself up there doing what he does best and whatever other cliches. I get psyched just listening to it. And yeah. One of the biggest voices I've ever heard. Comparable to playing a small Tuba in that range...which is massive coming from a human voice.
His bass qualities. He is baritone of course, hence he can do this song. But his BASSS QUALITY! Plus his physical awareness! This is why I put him edge to edge with Quast for Javert. Vocally, the best Phantom I've ever heard. Ramin has better cadence and tonality but man alive Lewis is phenomenal
If anyone hasn’t, Jonathan Roxmouth does a fantastic phantom as well and dare I say it, gives Ramin and Norm Lewis a run for their money. His robust baritone gave me chills as soon as he opens his mouth and is ideal to what the phantom’s voice should sound like. Angelic and beautiful but with sense of menace as well.
Ever since hearing him do stars in the 25th les mis …. The BEST’!!!! At almost everything !!!!! This is just again wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing your gift!!! Xxxxxxx
Nice to see a bass/baritone take on this role. I'd love to take on this role myself, tho as a bass, that a flat scares me. I'd probs opt out of it or do falsetto
There are those one the first level of Phantom, who rave over the movie and Emmy and Gerard. Then there are those in the upper echelon of Phantom appreciation who acknowledge Ramin and Norm as being peak performance.
Any other song from POTO I'm willing to be open-minded but you GOTTA have Norm Lewis' baritone for music of the night! THIS is what Erik is supposed to sound like! Rich and hypnotic and seductive and beautiful and sensual!
I would have loved it if Norm Lewis had played the Phantom in Love Never Dies, h would have been amazing in that more human and fatherly side of the character
Maybe my favorite phantom after Michael Crawford. The winners to me can put a sweetness to the lullaby in the soft parts and still nail the higher notes.
Love Norm’s voice, but it drives me nuts that he (and others - but not Ramin!) don’t pronounce the first “t” in “night time”, it’s an instant turn off for me…
You can't compare norm to ramin they are two different voices and sing this both beautifully
Every phantom is unique, you can't compare any one playing the role. Love them all.
@@mrwood4557 Exactly! I don't get why some people try to compare them.
@@mrwood4557 indeed!
Nobody is comparing them on here? And why bring up Ramin at all, when *Michael Crawford* is the OG Phantom.
They all have beautiful voices coz they sing like angels.
When he sings it feels like being wrapped in velvet his voice is plush.
I was slightly worried about the high notes when I heard a baritone would be the Phantom. Mr Lewis put my doubts to rest quickly. I love the richer sound.
Chills every time!
A baritone with a tenor high C like Norm Lewis..I wouldn’t worry a second.
It’s an Ab, high but still safely in the range of a baritone

Hello Mr Lewis you sound great I’m Rosetta I took care of your grandmother Rosie your aunt Berta in Huntsville Al you sound amazing ❤
by far, the best Phantom ever... my opinion.
I totally concur. One cannot take anything away from prior Phantoms, BUT Norm is just WOW!
And Javert.
Agreed 100%.
He's definitely up there, my favorite will always be Ramin Karimloo but Norm Lewis is amazing and he's definitely unique.
What a brilliant performance 👏
I saw him on Broadway with Sierra front row. His voice rocked the Majestic theater.

A musical version of Candyman would be so awesome, and I would cast this guy as well.

Okay, THIS WINS. This is it. This is the best version of Music of the Night I've ever heard from anyone, even from Mr. Norm Lewis himself.
I think this is my favorite version

gladys cabezas He was my favourite Javert in Les Mis.....sang this just beautifully! High notes? Let me show you how that's done....Brilliant!
Anthony Warlow and Earl Carpenter are 2 other baritone Phantoms! Also it's funny to note all 3 played Javert too!

he has a voice that is both beautiful and terrifying at the same time. what more could you want in a phantom?
My favorite Phantom. Beautiful, powerful voice with great control. Exactly what I always wanted Erik to sound like.
1:10 - singing starts

I also prefer Norm's performance because his voice is fuller and richer.
bass quality and mixed technique, he used a lot from operatic style and quality, girare sounds, covered chest sounds etc.
Norm have such a beautiful voice, and not to mention, he's very attractive.
Once a great Phantom, always a great Phantom
HELLO Mr. Lewis!!! Don't you just want to TRUST HIM?! Thank you Mr. Lewis for this powerfully moving rendition!
I just listened to this song on repeat for almost an hour and a half
Wow. Hes got control. I'm so happy I found him.
By far Broadway’s best Phantom❤️🎼🎶🎵
This song is made for baritone. Norm Lewis is Great here.
his voice is golden. I must remember his name.
Amazing, superb and a thousand other glowing adjectives. If someone sang like that to me, I'd eagerly follow him into the bowels of an opera house
Did not know there was another recorded performance of him singing Music of the Night in full. Lovely!
LA ROMPEEEEE (EXCELENTE, POR SI NO SE ENTIENDE).
When a song makes your insides rumble, that’s some amazing singing.
One of the best I've heard.

What a powerful voice. Magnificent.
Love this guy, on my wish list to hear him in person again ❤
Listened and fell in love.... he truly brings a new and deeper emotional feeling to this song.
Instant goosebumps 😭
Amazingly, great, spellbinding singer.❤👏👏👏💕💕💕🤗🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
Listening to this on a cold winter night as the stars shine down is something else entirely.
What an amazing performance, the way he sings the word soul! Wow
For me this is the version I prefer!
Beautiful with a beautiful voice. I absolutely just love his instrument all around. Presence and depth to a tee.
Wonderful and Amazing voice
I think this is the voice even Gaston Leroux had in mind for Erik, the Phantom. Amazing 👏👏👏
Amazing Norm. Just incredible.
Baritone Phantom is actually a great idea, it contrasts the phantom more against the tenor Raoul
Beautiful.
This was so beautiful!! He is so amazing!!
Bravo!!!
Wow! i love his voice!
Well that was a delightful little treat for the ears. BRAVO!
The best Phantom vocally of any male vocalist that has interpreted the role including the original Phantom. Incredible.
Esse homem é de um talento extraordinário!! . Love!
Him and ramin are my favorite phantoms

All artists that have performed this song have been amazing. BUT Norm...The sexiest song EVER! In my opinion!
Fantastic Phantom.
Amazing, that is all.
Stunning!
Huge fan here...
Bravo, Norm!
Love his baritone sound - certainly gives a different perspective to the role - amazing
Thank you so much for posting this
BRAVO 👏
wonderful!
Only a baritone can catch the real Phantom's aura.
Wonderful

Wondering when Mr. Lewis will make an appearance in The Lion King? He would rival James Earl! And I love James Earl!
In french we name it a "voix de velours" (voice of velvet).
Yes!
Какой красивый мужчина!
Norm is still my favorite Phantom.
Wow. I was NOT expecting that voice.
I would have loved it if Norm Lewis had played the Phantom in Love Never Dies, h would have been amazing in that more human and fatherly side of the character
I was just thinking that! Norm's the most fatherly Phantom, which would work well for LND.
Even if LND is beneath him, plot-wise. Great music, though.
I appreciate that he actually went with the proper tempo in this. There is another video of him with Sierra, and he sings it waaay too fast
Maybe my favorite phantom after Michael Crawford. The winners to me can put a sweetness to the lullaby in the soft parts and still nail the higher notes.
Just found out this guy was my cousin...I never knew
Are u actually serious?!
Too bad whats happening in New York. Is Broadway even safe anymore.
He sounds a bit like a Colm Wilkinson with James Barbour voice....
Music of the night, if you know what I mean
