  • Today, we'll take a look at a very odd little Byrd, the Meadowlark 2 in Titanium, which provides a compelling budget option, and gives us a tantalizing glimpse of what the Delica 5 could be.

    Completely agree on the Delica 5. I've never owned a Delica myself and never will unless things change. But with better fit and finish, a better steel, a finger coil, and some G10 scales? Count me in. Especially for what they charge for a Delica nowadays

  • @daveglarner2138
    @daveglarner2138 6 лет назад +3

    I have the g10 meadowlark and I think it's wonderful. I definitely see the cut corners in fit and finish along the back like you do, but the action feels great, the designated finger area for DETAIL WORK is much appreciated, and the grind (sharpening notch mess aside) is nice and thin enough that I don't mind the lower grade steel. I don't find it dulling all that quickly since there's never too much friction during use.
    My lanyard hole isn't blocked at all by the blade either. I think that gig is hit or miss at this price. Anyway, I had no intention of liking it originally. Then after getting one, I bought a few to give out at work.
    Total win. I have heard that the frn (or whatever) ones are legitimately horrible though. I don't know that, but that's word on the street. Not sure what street.

    Reasons to like titanium:
    -Strong

    -Has the word "tit" in it (i like birds)

    • @tolga1cool

  • @IlliniDog01
    @IlliniDog01 6 лет назад

    I agree with you Nick. Turn this into the new Delica with properly textured titanium, a normal hole, and S30V/S35VN steel and you have a real winner. I would prefer a deep carry clip as well, but I can just steal a custom one from one of my other converted Spydercos. A wire clip might be even better, but then you lose the 4-way carry option that some people love.

  • @jayweast1306
    @jayweast1306 6 лет назад +3

    I'll be honest - I don't get this knife. It reminds me of something I once heard about knives that has stuck with me: the blade makes a knife but the handle sells it. This is a knife that's selling you a handle but has a low end blade. On the other hand, there isn't much in the budget friendly titanium handled market (see the Kershaw Dimension and Jettison titanium) and it isn't at all a bad knife so I can see why someone might like it.

    8cr13 is great steel with a good edge it will hang with vg10 any day of the week and twice on Sunday, anyone witch is almost all RUclipsrs that say 8cr13 isn't a good steel hasn't actually gave it it's due..the money is there and they got to sell something "special" to overcharge the community but HARD truth is the difference in many steels is so minimal no a RUclipsr Alive could tell you the difference between 8cr13 many super steels if it wasn't labeled for them and that's truth that can be taken to the bank..

    • @kevinhenson5225
      @kevinhenson5225 5 лет назад

      While you may be correct that the average person may not notice the difference you are incorrect about that difference being minimal. There are many knife enthusiast who go through great lengths to rigorously test the different steels and there are huge differences in edge retention, toughness, etc. If you are actually interested this guy has some of the most in depth tests of different knife steels and is a professional sharpener. ruclips.net/channel/UCC-cvUqhuR--z1uUAXqMzaw

      Stefan, I felt the same way for quite a while. After reading so many people rave about them, I decided to get one. Most comments claimed that the most ergonomic is the Manix 2, so I got one. It’s not bad looking at all. The action is amazing, and the blade performs like a champ. I’ve picked up a few more since then. However, I still think the PM2 and the PM3 are butt ugly, so I won’t buy those.
