Great knife for everyday use, light, affordable price, fits well in the hand and is easy to carry in your pocket. Much more expensive knives collect dust on my shelf, but for some reason Byrd Harrier 2 is always in my pocket :)
This is something to think about. I have been really doing some research on a first carry knife for my brother. He has never carried a knife. What started me on this path is that a few months ago his apartment was broken into. He wasn't home, thank god, but of course he's freaked out all the time now. He really has no interest in obtaining and carrying a gun at this point, but I thought maybe it's a good time to get him a knife to carry. Not that a pocket knife is the ultimate self defense tool, but I think it will give him just a tiny bit of comfort, and, my real goal is to maybe get him to see how useful carrying a knife is. I have a bunch of knives (relatively speaking) and I want to get him something that could be intuitive to him right off the bat so he's likely to use it and carry it. I've been all over the place from just getting a ruike p801 (I have one and it is just so good) one of the Ontario rats? All the way to a spyderco native lw or delica and everything in between budget-wise. Civivi baklash? that new wooden civivi you reviewed is very compelling. It looks incredible, functional and my brother works in an office and builds websites, so A tactical sword is probably frowned upon. That wooden scaled civivi is probably something I'd carry (or something like it) if I worked in an office setting. Pure class! Thanks for all of your content.
Robert Morano my brother is getting his first folder too, and he asked me for some opinions on the efficient, the emphasis, and the tenacious. I suggested the baklash or the praxis and it’s definitely going to make someone think twice before pouncing, but it they’re also very people-oriented and people-friendly (and first time knife friendly). I suggest the baklash and the praxis because the praxis made me start buying customs because I wanted that build quality afterwards!!
Somehow I can't find a review about the stainless steel handle Harrier 2, just one, and he doesn't really review the knife, only says how he likes it and how others don't. 😱 Oh wait, he also doesn't have the stainless steel handle one ... NOBODY HAS >:O
Is it possible that some assume it's a brand that is ripping off Spyderco? They're the same designs except the opening hole, you even put budget brand in parentheses

I just starting looking at Byrd. I grabbed a Raven2 and it's great. I agree they're definitely underrated for as a decent budget line.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Spyderco wont make a Delica 5 with a finger choil and better steel.

Yeah. I put Spyderco in there because some new people don't know and think they're clones even after all these years. I know I did when I started.
