  • Jack Rabbit is a wooden roller coaster at Kennywood that opened in 1920. Built by Charlie Mach and designed by John Miller, Jack Rabbit's 2,132 ft of track traverses down and through a natural ravine that parallels the park's picnic groves. It goes down 2 drops and a tunnel before reaching the 40 ft high lift hill halfway through the ride. The signature element on Jack Rabbit is a 70 ft deep double dip at a 45 degree angle, reaching a top speed of 45 mph. This provides a tremendous moment of airtime. After one last turnaround, riders go down the largest single drop on the coaster before rising up back on ground level back to the station. The ride duration 1:36.
Kennywood's Jack Rabbit was only built for $50,000. It was the second ever coaster to use John Miller's patented underfriction wheels (the first is Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze opening earlier in 1920). This allowed coasters moving forward to perform more daring elements. In 2020, Kennywood celebrated Jack Rabbit's 100th birthday.
This video was filmed over 2019 and 2020. There are some shots where there is a dip in quality. These were shot in 2015. They're kept in because there is some unique angles from the station. Also I wanted to include some footage of Vic Kleman who loved Jack Rabbit more than anyone. Some other shots were filmed in restricted areas with special permission from park personnel.
