Pink Floyd-The Final Cut (Lyrics)

- Опубликовано: 18 сен 2010
- "The Final Cut" is the title track from Pink Floyd's 1983's album The Final Cut. The video depicts Roger Waters singing to a psychologist and utilizes old film footage of 1930s and '40s life intertwined. It contains a short guitar solo played by David Gilmour.
As the album's title track, it reveals Waters' deepest intimacies; the lyrics deal with the aftermath of a man's isolation and sexual repression, as he contemplates suicide, and struggles to reconnect with the world around him.
The orchestral motif is similar to that found on "Comfortably Numb", which was also scored by Michael Kamen. - Wikipedia

Lyrics:
Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.
If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotguns in the hall,
Dial the combination, open the priesthole
And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall.
There's a kid who had a big hallucination
Making love to girls in magazines.
He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith.
Could anybody love him
Or is it just a crazy dream?
And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?
Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut. - Видеоклипы
Over 30 years later and the whole album The Final Cut still gives me chills ....
Same here I listened to it in my 20s didn't really understand it. Now in my 50s a bit wiser and understand most of the story the shivers I get listening to it now are unreal
To sad that "experts" thinks it's a fail, it's a masterpiece like only Roger Waters could do.
One of their bests. Listening as we head to Christmas 2021. All the best to all. Have a great Christmas and a brilliant new year.
One of the most underrated and misunderstood pink floyd albums. Honestly one of their best.
I’m 32 and this is by far my favorite Pink Floyd Album, or should I say Roger Waters Album featuring Pink Floyd……an absolute masterclass…..the greatest band of all time
This isn't music, this is feeling in the most expressive form possible.
hermione, and yet it's music too. That's why it's the best.
These records are depressing, but very nice.
sends me to tears every time
Favorite song of all time
Music and poetry are one in the same in the perfect world. To me this is Prog Rock crossed with Spoken Word. The music behind this conveys as much emotion as the lyrics do... Just my measly two cents worth.
Roger Waters is Poet. Should be awarded some sort of Nobel prize in the fieldof Art or literature
Roger isn't the best vocalist but what I hear when he sings is pure sincerity, honesty and EXACTLY what he's feeling. Not many vocalists can do that....But then again, these are geniuses I'm talking about
I love this song. Totally underrated.

Alright listen,
I think I've got it}
hello 4 years ago dave p. I could not agree more.
pink Floyd is not for common man
Criminally under-rated i think you mean.
Dave P I agree, one of my favourite pink floyd tracks
My favorite lyrics in this song are these: "And if I show you my dark side, will you still hold me tonight? And if I open my heart to you, and show you my weak side, what would you do?" Because honestly? I don't think it gets any more personal than that. :'(
the most difficult feeling ever ! its so personal so deep and if you reach to this point you will know !
Wife and I are getting them tattooed on us. She will get the second half
It would be cool af if you would of said, “if I show you the dark of my moon”. As a reference to DSOTM
Emma i tear up with this song. Love those lines.
My favourite Pink Floyd album. Depressing, but brilliant.
this is actually a Rodger waters album featuring pink floyd mate.
This is A Pink Floyd album anyway you take it. A lot of amazing music done by the rest of the band not just Rogers that you really cant go by. Yes its his lyrics and inspiration but a lot of songs and maybe this one in particular has the PF touch.
obscured by cloud is more depression
especially the last line. gives u goosebumbs
@@fatimaasad744 honey, Goosebump is middle name of this song.
i opened my heart to her,and showed her my weak side.....she took the children away and left me alone.

thank you.

But... Did she sold the story to rolling stone? Just kidding. Stay strong man!
Danny D stay strong man
I have commended Pink Floyd since their first album many yrs ago & all their many other masterpiece projects, concluding with their last album, " The Endless River.". "The Final Cut" album is one of my many favorites & still emotes undescribable feelings within me. This album depicts the stories & horrors of war through the ages, like a storybook through the eyes of all those who have served in the many wars. A former Colleague of mine who served in active war combat in Iraq, commited suicide last week at 31 yrs old, & this song is about him & thousands of others who come back from war, appearing "just fine" on the outside, but silently screaming on the inside that most don't hear. My friend Timothy joins the ranks of hundreds of worldwide War Vets taking their lives everyday from the traumas of war, & the painful readjustment to civilian life, which has it's own stressors. Say thanks to those who put their lives on the line defending injustices & our freedoms, but lip service is minimal. Offer a listening ear, invite them out for lunch, a walk in a park pay a grocery bill, shovel their snow or cut their lawn even once. etc.. if you know a Veteran young or old. & if you don't know a Veteran, donate even a dollar to so many causes that assist them.( emotional counselling, prosthetics, guide dogs, & if you're really wealthy, buy them a modest home, because thousands are homeless. ) We need to honor these people & show them we care more than most of us do. Regretably, many Vets hide their despair very well, until we only hear after, that they made "That Final Cut". ( Exit from too much pain.) R.I.P. TIMOTHY..& TO THE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS. 🌈💞 NONE OF YOU WILL EVER BE FORGOTTEN.💖
as a teenager i thank each and every one of our soldiers. Most of my family served in the SANDF back then. My grandpa served the police in apartheid as well. the things they told me is something i hope none of us experience. I will pray for 4 each and every man serving tonight. Enemies. Allies.does not matter. Im really sorry for your loss and i hope we as a community. Does not matter in witch country. Can prevent our heroes from suicide.
So sorry for your loss. We absolutely need to honor these people. Your post did just that.
This song makes me break down in tears every.single.time. God, I fucking love this.
ur not the only one...
me too
I was shaking after this song... wow... oh my god this is a pure masterpiece... I can't believe I only discovered this now...
listen to every single track of Pink floyd . it will change your life. promise u.
+pouria siavashi AGREED! UNDOUBTEDLY!
+pouria siavashi they changed mine for sure. My god, I love this band.
Disto Phobian ITS DICK!!
I can't believe I discovered this 3 years after u xD
this song breaks my heart every single time, especially after 2:30
I just can't take it.
I think this must be my favorite song ever from pink floyd.
Exactly . I felt like crying
This is probably my second favorite song by them. However, wish you were here hits me so fucking hard in a way that no other song does
What's your second fav
This song shows the madness and the uniqueness of Roger's voice
He really is mad. His mind is definitely “out there”. But that’s what makes his lyrics so amazing, like poetry ❤️
it got tone of comfortably numb going on the background. i love it.
And if I ..... show you my dark side.....
Will you still hold me..... tonight?
And if I....... open my heart to you
And show you my weak side.....
What would you do?

@@robertj4157 , I know it's a year later (but it's still relevant), some women are simply cold and heartless. Guys, be very careful who you give your heart to, because some will stomp on it. It's time to move on, and learn from it.
@@markbrown3841 you are right
omg hahahha i cant
David gilmour is good, but roger waters is fucking intense...and intense makes me cry, good is only good, now I know why waters is how he is.... what a songwriter and singer this guy is....
They are both insanely talented
no one can convey feelings to the listener like Roger can. in all of music. wether it's pain, anger, despair, sarcasm, he always knows how to deliver it perfectly.
OMG I absolutely love this song..... This is my favorite band of all time.... Love all of u!!!!!!!!
this is real emotion. absolutely beautiful....one of my personal favorites.
this is the most underrated masterpiece of musical history. The notes, the lyrics, the voice of Roger Whaters, the solo guitar by David Gilmour. I think that behind the title there is the beginning of PF end as a band, unfortunately for all lovers of their unachieved class.💓 from Milano,Italy
See it positive, now we all can enjoy booth PF and RW albums 😂
@@bomek-drogvanor A masterpiece as THE WALL,never again by them separated and by anyone.
Agree. Its next level. Unlike all their albums.
"The Wall" was the actual beginning of the end. There were already riffs between David and Roger. "The Final Cut" was the last true album by the band. I have a live album from after the breakup; it was titled "Roger Over & Out".
this album comforts a disturbed soul
And if I show you my dark side...Will you still hold me tonight??
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side

Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance

The best part
Solo gets me everytime. I listen to this song all the time and i never goes without crying when the solo starts...
Same with David Gilmour's High Hopes solo from Live In Gdansk
I’m really in love with how he says word “negotiate”
This song it's fucking perfect and my opinion the best of Pink floyd.
Felipe Villani agreed
Gunner's Dream from the same album is my fav
@@andrewdm81 me too, it's the best.
This it's my fav album with "Wish you were here".
Listening to this song in memory of my dad who passed away 2 days ago from Corona. He use to blast this in his car outside my house and I would always know he was home by hearing it. What I would give for him to be playing it and not me right now. Hold your loved ones tight because one moment they could be here and in the next moment you could have a human sized hole in your heart forever. 💔 I miss you daddy.
That is exactly what I am thinking.Who could have missed this masterpiece of raw emotions.Art.Are people scared of real music that hits home?
I'm obsessed.
I always go back to this floyd album. This song especially. Mesmerising.
Me too
This album is Dark Side of the Wall
TheShowStoppersTV no
As if the Wall wasn't dark enough.
i really hope this is a joke
Victor Petcu the Final Cut
There's no dark side of the wall really matter of fact it's all dark.
This song is perfect... the lyrics, that feaking solo with Gilmour sending waves through your spine to make resonate the notes with that delicate part of your soul... I love this album.

Been listening to Pink Floyd for just under 40 years , this album is right up there at the top , still blows me away....
PF never fails to remind me why they're my favourite band. I found them for the first time, about thirteen years ago, during the depths of my depression. Now that I've gone through another rough and emotionally turbulent patch, I find this song again, and it still speaks perfectly to the way I'm feeling. That's what I love about them so much: throughout their entire discography, they managed to hit every emotional note.
Let me explain further what I mean by that: whether you're happy, sad, hopeful, depressed, bitter, ecstatic, angry, or any other shade of feeling, they've got a song steeped in it. Not lyrically, necessarily (though as with many progressive bands, their lyrics are often timeless) - it's the entire soundscape they created. They were true masters of the art. They moulded pitch and rhythm for the world to see, and literally spoke through their instruments. In addition to providing emotional validation at any point in time, they were the ones who inspired me to learn music (well, them and AC/DC), and now, they've inspired me to get back into practise. The rivers of sound in *my* brain, which had dried up through sheer lack of maintenance, have begun to flow again... all thanks to them.
In short, I owe a lot to PF, and this song reminded me of that (and yes, that's another thing to add the list of things I owe them, but let's not get into that infinite regression). For roughly thirteen years, and every year going forward until I die, they will always be my favourite band. :)
MH: well said bro.
I'm an Italian fifteen-years old boy and, right now, I'm in a very terrible moment: simply, I can't accept the Iife I have. It's incredible that I love so many English rock bands, but when I want to look for some deep answers, I listen just to Pink Floyd!
Listening this song for decades specially during my University times, I was totally carried away by the tune, guitars, his vocals and now I found the full lyrics. THANK YOU FOR POSTING AND SHARING THE LYRICS. Pink Floyd will always rock.
One of my favorite songs. Totally agree with Dave P. This song is so underrated.
That shotgun always gets me.
but you don't hear the rest of the lyrics. are they there in the liner notes?
I can just stare with mouth oppened when I am hearing how Rog can work with his voice.
What a smashing, spectacular and sad song! I am seriously thinking what is wrong with the people who dismiss this album as boring. Man, it is so profound and it is both Waters and Gilmour's guitar at their monumental best...a fitting follow-up to my favourite album 'The Wall'.
ZOEB MATIN people dislike it due to its originality and because the album doesnt flow like the wall or dark side of the moon
people are stupid sometimes.
People who say this album is boring have only listened to it once. You have to listen to it a couple times and then out of nowhere you are suddenly convinced that its a masterpiece.
Always thought that the final cut was Rogers best work . Could never understand why the wall got all the attention . When I haven't played pink Floyd in awhile I always put this on first . Love it
Criminally underrated masterpiece.
10 people didn't make it past the shotguns in the hall.
its 11 now :(
William Barentine But really, who cares? :P
God be with them

Its 16 now, and f*** em :)
I wish this to be played at my funeral...
Final Cut is my favourite album.
Thank you mr. Waters.
Thank you Pink Floyd for being in my life!✌️❤️
Tragedy and brilliant music go hand and hand. Art at its finest, comes to us as a result of tragedy.
How is this not the best Pink Floyd song?
Lol not even close.
Humbly disagree. But to each his (or her own) I feel this song. Not just listen to it. Really important and relevant to my own life.✌️
It's not because Comfortably Numb is!
Gotta love that opening line..through the fish eyed lens of tear stained eyes...epic love you floyd cant wait til the new album
this song nearly made me cry
One of Pink Floyd's many classics. Best band ever!
I just want to cry...wait I already am❣️
Even if "experts" doomed this album I have always thought of it as "cream of the crop".
Roger's voice and David's guitar is excellent.
I held the blade in trembling hands, prepared to make it but! just then the phone rang.. i never had the nerve to make THE FİNAL CUT
That Gilmour solo takes me away to a good place.
Final cut has allways been my favorite
I have heard about 10 pink floyd songs (a beginner) and this is moved me the most somehow
Roger’s lyrics are amazing
3:11 i love that part. Or would you take me home?
I feel weird, I don't want to depend emotionally on anyone, but I need a warm place to stay.
When I met my husband we quickly (a few days later) vowed to take care of each other for life..no matter what we do or happens. We needed that security of having someone to be there for us, no matter how messed up we are. We have been together 31 years since then and have held each other through many difficult times. We listen to this album together every year on Thanksgiving.
Bob, if you up there at the pearly gates looking down. I miss you friend. RIP...... knew you loved this album.
Poesía insuperable ...💚ROGER WATERS 💛
One of my favorite song from PF
This song is the Final Cut. And nothing shall surpass
One of my favorite Gilmour solos, there's as much pain in it as in Waters' voice.
When this came out I was 20 years old and going through my first real heart break. Pink Floyd was breaking up and so was I. My world was upside down. When I hear this today 35 years later it takes me back to a place I thought I would never climb out of. I get chills down my spine, goosebumps on my arms and tears in my eye. I thank God I was on earth the same time as Pink Floyd, greatest band ever.
Crazy how certain songs can bring back so many nostalgic feelings
I never had the nerve to make the final cut... Superb 👌
This song evokes so much emotion in me. It's kind of like the reclusive little brother of Comfortably Numb...
Pink Floyd never actually peaked, they got up to the top of the mountain and stayed there... Truly on a planet all by themselves!
thank you for this my friend, the lyrics are so chilling to the bone to see them like this with the music playing as sound track...not too many in Rogers league...!
"...the reclusive little brother of Comfortably Numb..." well said, Raj!
Heard this for the first time...Very powerful song...Love the lyrics. Looks like this is underplayed...
I thought I was loved for years..... Now I know, the only true loved I ever had was from my mom, too bad I grew up miles hundreds of miles apart.

Pink Floyd always takes me to my happy place. ❤️❤️❤️
Heartbreaking song his passion in his voice is real. Great artist.💗
Pain is a universal feeling we all feel no matter how far you walk in life.
Masterful musical work, definitely a true classic! His deep questions confront the Being itself and become effective in the time of Today. So much hypocrisy and lack of love. The music is very consistent with the plaintive cry of the speech before the psychologist and what to say about the majestic guitar SOLO of David Gilmour, (3:24 - 3:59), a guitar master!. I believe that until my death the synapses of my neurons will continue to vibrate with dopamine and oxytocin and serotonin when listening to this wonderful work of musical art! I couldn't stop a disobedient tear from rolling down my cheek when I heard this beautiful and lavish work. Congratulations Pink Floyd from Cali-Colombia !.
the most beutiful song ever made
Comfortably Numb so totally agree xxx
la mejor del mundo!!!!!
I love this song !
This should have been released as a single.. a truly masterpiece song..
I like this song so much, so profound, true masterpiece.
Thank you Pink Floyd
This album as a whole is sorely underrated.
Deeply moving. Good to know someone else has been here before me.

just discovered this song a few days ago,Roger Waters at its best likewise David Gilmour's haunting solo..unbelievably great!!!
What a masterpiece of Lyrical artistry..
A good friend showed this song to me a while ago. Miss you Cheyan.
THANK YOU for having the sense to post this amazing song WITH THE LYRICS. This album is perhaps the most lyric-driven album Floyd ever released. The melody is beautiful of course and Dave Gilmour's solo is of course unforgettable but having the lyrics up makes it 10 times more powerful. Awesome Job! Going straight to my favorites.
Waww first time a heard the song and I'm broke in tears.
It really helps me appreciate Veterans. I want every world leader to listen to this full album.
I feel lucky, Roger didn't have the nerve to make the final cut!
Borat Kazakistan I don't think the final cut means suicide, rather the final cut from his past self by telling her about what it was which was troubling him, he didn't get to tell her because he got distracted by the phone which could just mean distractions
I think you both are right. Good songs have multiple meanings.
@@tylerinnit996 that could also be the meaning. But to me, I also think it means suicide. The phone rang, and it broke his nerve to make that final cut
It's about suicide by cutting One's self. Yes, that is a way to cut yourself from feelings about your past, but this is more literal.
This song kepp me going,in a very bad time of life!!
Awesome Floyd song. I've watched like 7 times now. Better every time. Great job on Vid and Lyrics
The first time i heard this song was on the LP version, back on the 80ies. It had a great work of art on its cover and the lyrics were printed inside there. For me it is difficult to listen to just one song from The Final Cut album. Every time I feel compelled to listen from the begginig to the end, but on the internet I can do it. Thank you for sharing these classic songs of all times.
I love this song so much. Thanks for making the video
