I bought this album when it came out at the same time as my now ex wife began our lives together. Young. Happy. Carefree. In love. Alas the passage of time has not been kind, and the lyrics of this masterpiece are a frighteningly accurate reflection of my past and my present. Intelligent songwriting at its finest.
Late response but your comment is surreal to me. I just lost a relationship with someone I was planning to marry and be the mother of my kids. My knowledge of Pink Floyd is very limited but I always knew of Take it Back. Post breakup, I figured I'd buy the entirety of The Division Bell (since why not?) and the whole album is pure healing. Especially Poles Apart, High Hopes and Coming Back to Life, but Lost for Words and Take it Back just hit the spot for me regarding this nightmare. Keep on friend. :)

One-hundred and twenty-five people loved this song so much that they flipped their computer-screen upside-down to thumbs-up it a second time. ...It's the only explanation I can think of for 125 "dislikes" on this awesome song.
The older I get, and the older Pink Floyd gets, the more I appreciate the awesome words. If you could read my mind love, what an awesome tale my thoughts would tell.
A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone. Goodness is the only investment that never fails, and all good things are wild and free.
The Pink Floyd is the band. They all had input. The piano and organ mastery, purcussion, guitar and bass playing. Once Roger left.. And he may have been tossed by the band.. But he, Roger, also realized he had too much to do by himself. I met him in a bar in Greenwich Village about 15 years ago. He walked in and asked to sit at the piano in a jazz club. He played a few parts of a few tunes that came out on one of his albums a month later. It was amazing. There were only 12-15 people. On another note. the rest of the band went on and have played regular tours as has Roger on his own. Who gives a shit about the band staying as a unit. They are all great Of course, losing Richard last year was sad. He played all the great parts of Dark Side of the Moon. And all the albums. When Division Bell came out. I went to the first possible show. Purchased the record and learned all the parts by guitar. I am still amazed at the creation of this work. All of them. Period
This album sounds like it was recorded in an enormous universe instead of a houseboat.......When I first got this, I got the CD too, and every day for at least a month I would go get a coffee, then drive around the back roads in my truck and listen to the entire album! And I've been listening to it ever since. Roger who?
@@anycolouryoulike8567 oh look, it's you. Yea, they're really bad. Shitty, fake, vague and 'deep' lyrics combined with the loss of the intensity that Roger brought and the more avant-garde influence from Rick made Floyd a pretty lightweight and lame band.

Regardless of what this song really is about, I always found it a pleasant mix of sweet and bitter notes, nicely relaxed and happy, but with that dark undertone in the background. It reminds me of Tuscany in the late summer, a stony villa and golden sunlight in the late afternoon.
Admittedly I never exactly knew what it is about, nor did I fully understand the lyrics. But in the comments here some people wrote what it is about, a band-internal conflict it seems.

Music without Pink floyd is like a "life without music". "Lost for words" has the power. This song is a real genius, I'm lost for words to describe!
cant stop listening to this. i cant get enough of pink floyd
A melhor de todos os tempos...passado, presente e futuro! 🇧🇷🇧🇷
I bought this album when it came out at the same time as my now ex wife began our lives together. Young. Happy. Carefree. In love. Alas the passage of time has not been kind, and the lyrics of this masterpiece are a frighteningly accurate reflection of my past and my present. Intelligent songwriting at its finest.
it gets better
Late response but your comment is surreal to me. I just lost a relationship with someone I was planning to marry and be the mother of my kids. My knowledge of Pink Floyd is very limited but I always knew of Take it Back. Post breakup, I figured I'd buy the entirety of The Division Bell (since why not?) and the whole album is pure healing. Especially Poles Apart, High Hopes and Coming Back to Life, but Lost for Words and Take it Back just hit the spot for me regarding this nightmare. Keep on friend. :)
I LOVE this song... i'm crying right now listening to this masterpiece

pink. floyd. takes. me. back. to. a. happier. time. in my. life
I swear, Pink Floyd songs are long songs, they last a while. Yet they feel so short.
Absolutely beautiful. Long time gone... this type of Quality music.
One-hundred and twenty-five people loved this song so much that they flipped their computer-screen upside-down to thumbs-up it a second time.
...It's the only explanation I can think of for 125 "dislikes" on this awesome song.
one of my favourite songs on one of my favourite all time albums!
There is Humanity in this Music
Fcuk. I was trying to take off that fucking hair from my phone for about 3 minutes... It was your avatar...
Pink Floyd sem dúvida é uma das melhores bandas de rock progressivo de todos os tempos 👍
Uma das minhas canções favoritas... Perfeita em vários sentidos.
The dislike button needs to be banned for Pink Floyd songs, seriously!
+soniya thapa 146 zombies
Well I mean people are allowed to dislike a song. Besides, if there were no dislike button, the likes wouldn't mean anything.

+End me dude calm down this isnt the avengers........ just a button..
FishyTheFish I'm just illustrating a point.
Amo, acho linda essa música, boas lembranças do passado!!
Tengo 16 años y llego de una fiesta borracho, mi papa llega de otra igual de borracho, nos ponemos a escuchar esto, que gran regalo de la vida para mi
Goddam I just lost my friend in Nashville TN Saturday night this was one of his favorites tears rolling down my face rip Dave Spurlock
In moments like these, it's good to be alive!
omg this solo is amazing, have a lovely soul mr. David Gilmour
Roger who?
The dislike button shouldn't exist for this song.
sometimes you just can't win
Yes,no dislike, any People Who dislike this Song are stupid
Oh, here comes another fool.
I am old, the ivy has grown over my door. I don't care. I am tired of humans. Too much evil, to much sadness.
hang in there Mike M, there's still a few good ones out there! I try to be!
Thank you for your kind words.
I wish i could say it gets better :/
Life is what you make it. You are only as old as your imagination.
good answer man! keep up with being good
Maybe the most underrated song of Pink Floyd
Very touching song... beyond words to express. What a display of reality rather practicality which we tend to ignore.
My entire life learning about the truth of this world with all of you. What a masterpiece
Veritas!
Love! Love, love! Singing this song feels just right! Seeing them live three times!, priceless! 1987,88, 1994, The Division Bell! Thank you!
I seriously.... genuinely would have given 2 limbs to have seen them at Earls Court pulse 1994 😢😢😢
This song is a reflection on Gilmour's relationship with former bandmate Roger Waters.
I only just figured it out a few months ago .. Means so much more now
I thought so...
Yea, it's cringe as fuck
@@Syfoll Post-Waters lyrics are generally quite cringe.
The most successful band in rock 'n' roll history, bar none.
Well done...that's a big call from someone who has Irish blood.SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY!!!

Pink Floyd, thank you for making life easier. Your music is my acid
Started listening to this masterpiece my 1st university year in Saint-Louis Senegal in 1995. Still listening 25 years later now aged 45 ! With a Masters Degree British Literature (mostly due to Floyd and a Masters in Communications).
One of the best pink floyd songs🔥💯
Floyd is and will always be timeless! Greatest band in musics history.
I love u Pink Floyd!! 29 years of listening to ur awesome music!! U make the best music ever!! Lyrics n all are the best!!! I can feel that piano n guitar
5:05 the ringing of The Division Bells has begun
I was spending my time in the doldrums
I was caught in a cauldron of hate
I felt persecuted and paralysed
I thought that everything else would just wait
While you are wasting your time on your enemies
Engulfed in a fever of spite
Beyond your tunnel vision reality fades
Like shadows into the night
To martyr yourself to caution
Is not gonna help at all
Because there'll be no safety in numbers
When the Right One walks out of the door
Can you see your days blighted by darkness?
Is it true you beat your fists on the floor?
Stuck in a world of isolation
While the ivy grows over the door
So I open my door to my enemies
And I ask could we wipe the slate clean
But they tell me to please go fuck myself
You know you just can't win
I keep playing this for a million times!
Uma das melhores músicas de todos os tempos.
Sem dúvidas
Best song on whole album. Pure brilliance and genius with David jamming out like always
This is one of the few songs that are perfects... a masterpiece!!

Lost for Words!!!That's how awesome this song is. It's true that songs speak Louder than Words. This song makes me Comfortably Numb.
Regardless of what this song really is about, I always found it a pleasant mix of sweet and bitter notes, nicely relaxed and happy, but with that dark undertone in the background. It reminds me of Tuscany in the late summer, a stony villa and golden sunlight in the late afternoon.
What a perfect visual to fit
good way of putting it. this is one of my favorite songs by floyd.
Meddugnatos Aule Theudebald
wha is it about? you dont know or u don't regard?
Admittedly I never exactly knew what it is about, nor did I fully understand the lyrics. But in the comments here some people wrote what it is about, a band-internal conflict it seems.
Nice words!!
No matter how many times I listen to this song and the album as a whole, the hairs on my neck stand on end... The spirit of every song never subsides.
I fell in love to my beautiful and amazing girlfriend listening to this song on repeat during the first few days of February 2018.
I love you, Lianne. You will always be my world.
the division bell is so underated. genious!!!
