  • Soto-makikomi is often associated with big, fat guys but it can be used effectively by smaller players, especially if they employ modified grips.

    One of the hardest techniques to avoid.
    I've been having extreme success with it even though I'm -81, lighter categories don't expect this too often

    Man, I wish the IJF would've let this man compete in BJJ. We need him. The state of takedowns in BJJ is terrible.

    How do you defend against makikomi ?

    • @TheGunnyBadger03xx
      @TheGunnyBadger03xx 7 месяцев назад +1

      The same way you defend against most throws; grip fighting. In BJJ you know you shouldn't let someone with skill put a hand in your collar. The same goes for Judo, especially on your feet!

  • @jasonrudolph491
    @jasonrudolph491 Год назад

    So with this throw is landing on your partner optional? Can one typically remain standing?😎

    • @samsteele4762
      @samsteele4762 Год назад +3

      Makikomi literally means to follow or to land with the throw. I have seen it both ways and also kneeling.

    • @cherokeeoutlaw2.011
      @cherokeeoutlaw2.011 Год назад +2

      its a sacrifice throw, so i think you follow down to the ground with this one

    • @tylerm7503
      @tylerm7503 Год назад

      I am playing with it in bjj. I do it by droping to the knee. Not as explosive but less back exposure more control. However if you do this full speed and mash someone's ribs i don't think you need to worry about giving up the back.

    • @TheGunnyBadger03xx
      @TheGunnyBadger03xx 7 месяцев назад +2

      You "could" stay standing, but you're better off going to the ground. Why? You can throw with more force when you throw your weight to the ground, plus you can easily get to kesa gatame for pin/control/sub and decide what to do next.
