I appreciate you making this video. There are so many that just tell about all of the bad parts of St. Louis, but there are finally people showing all of the good too!
I moved to STL from the DC area thinking it was going to be a boring city! Oh lord I was wrong! From Buffaloes waking freely to the largest free zoo in the country all free. To include The Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, Science Center, Some Muny Events or certain seats, to the largest urban park in the country Forrest Park. To put it into perspective Forrest Park is 500 acres larger than Central Park in NYC. The neighborhoods most historical are unique and beautiful. We have a light rail system that needs some security but during the day is pretty safe. Now we have an old school light rail trolley at Delmar Loop and a small China Town Square near I-170 and Olive. There’s a lot of construction downtown and Ballpark Village Phase II is almost half way done! Must love this city I know I fell in love with it. One more thing we have a professional hockey and baseball teams Blues and Cardinals, and pretty soon an MLS professional soccer team. Also we have Union Station, Aquarium coming soon and a Ferris Wheel 🎡 right next the the Union Station. If I try to write all the good stuff its going to take me a long long time! I lived in St. Louis between late 2011 and mid 2013, went to Webster University. Something about this city I keep wanting to move back. Crime is high, but the west side is pretty much safe. Low cost of living, hardly any traffic jams, great night life. Beautiful and affordable loft apartments in downtown. Oh, and Imos pizza is something!
St. Louis has that effect. I know many people who have moved away and eventually returned. It’s an easy place to live and they quality of life is really good (e.g. little traffic, great restaurants, many cultural institutions, amazing parks, low cost of living). If you combine city and county crime stats, as other metro areas do, crime is not disproportionately higher than in similarly sized places. I live on the South side and am quite happy to be there. Come on back!
Compared to other cities..st louis literally one of the best places to live..since there is good and bad everywhere I appreciate that as a city and surrounding areas it has so much to offer and everything is affordable. And you literally can travel to anywhere from here in a short amount of time since it's in the middle of the country with a major airport and train system, not to mention gettin around on the metro transit systems is invaluable.
I grew up an hour south of St. Louis but visited QUITE often growing up. When I moved out of my parents house, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. I've lived in St. Louis for several years now and I can't imagine living anywhere else!
STL is my hometown. Growing up I wanted nothing more than to get out of there. Having lived in another state for 20 years I miss the area so much! This video reminded me why my hometown is an amazing city! Thank you for creating this video!
I lived there for two years in law school, 2016-2018...I would say it's an AMAZING place to settle down. It's VERY affordable compared to 75% of the rest of the country. It's beautiful, with TONS of free stuff and history to explore. The only thing I think it's bad for is for young people who don't have kids. There's not many clubs or concerts...a lot of the better stuff goes to Chicago or Kansas City. It's great for bar food and for drinking...but if you like to go out to clubs and dance, it's pretty bad. The nightlife in that regard can be kind of sketchy/sleazy. But if you're family-oriented, and you don't plan on 'going out clubbing," than it's perfect.
@Top 10 in the World as long as you live in a decent area (i don't recommend anywhere in the North of the city) and you use common sense, you'll be 100% fine. What school are you going to?

I have lived near Stl my entire life, it’s a really fun place to visit, though it’s not a very safe place to live in some parts. You really have to research before you buy or rent. Two of my friends have gotten their cars jacked in broad daylight while I was with them (one at the galleria and one in tower grove) and other people I know have gotten their places robbed at gun point (tower grove). Oh man, I wish your experience Downtown was better! I've heard from people who love it and people who don't. In any case, I would love to see more national retailers put down roots to help the area grow. I'm looking forward to opening of the new aquarium.
@@JohnVoirolGroup I LOVED my time living Downtown. I think in 5 years, with all the construction and development in the central corridor, St Louis will be a buzz with new life. I spent 8 years living the single life in Downtown and lived like a millionaire thanks to the low cost of living. Every weekend you could pop into the many great, diverse neighborhoods and have a good time. There is so much culture here that it's unreal. I was spoiled with things to do. I always have a soft spot in my heart for the Lou. I just wish the crime was under control. Nice vid!
@Charles Darwin My sister has had 2 people shot on her block in the last 10 years. One was just a dad visiting from out of town. He was shot in his car. She still assures me that St. Louis is a great place to live.
Moving there this summer. Would love to know where my wife and daughter can bike across town and be near farmers markets and parks. I also need to commute to Scott AFB. What areas would you suggest? Mahalo!
Hi Anthony! You might be surprised to learn you have quite a few options. It's mostly a question of lifestyle. Where do you guys like spend time? What else do you want to be close to? Are school districts important to you? Of course, price is also a consideration. Give me a bit more info and I can make a few suggestions. Mahalo!
John Voirol Group | Circa Properties Thanks for getting back to me! My daughter is not school age yet, but we enjoy places like Whole Foods, bike or walking trails, coffee shops, or easy access to parks. Would love to hear your feedback!
@@anthonyemerson7058 If you like city living in a dense neighborhood with lots of shops and historic homes, look into the Central West End. Easy access to highway 40 takes you right into IL. If you prefer a larger yard and a community that puts on small parades and gatherings for little ones look to Glendale, Kirkwood, and Webster Groves. With over 70 different municipalities in St. Louis County, choosing a neighborhood can be a challenge. If you're buying a home I'd suggest connecting with a licensed REALTOR® who can help you get to know some communities that might work for you. Reach out to us anytime at info@johnvoirolgroup.com. I'm sure you'll love STL!
Hi Anthony! As a city resident with 2 daughters, I recommend the Benton Park neighborhood. A short bike ride to the oldest and largest farmers market west of the Mississippi, great parks, proximity to downtown and a quick hop on the highway to Scott AFB. Close to Cherokee Street, which is a great restaurant and shopping district with fantastic Mexican cuisine and night life! As a Benton Park resident, I highly recommend the area!
Can you recommend a good neighborhood fairly close to Forrest Park that is affordable , diverse and with in walking distance of eateries , coffee shops and dog friendly? From your previous vids looks like maybe Central West End? I currently live in OKC near Lake Hefner and my home is worth about 160k so something comparable. Ball park info only if you have time. :)
Thank you for the video. I am visiting St. Louis in a couple off weeks, staying in Central West End, and am looking for recommendations for best place to have dinner on The Hill and best brewery closest to Central West End.
It's not bad at all, they could have a snowstorm or two, but compared to Chicago, Minneapolis and all cities to the north and west STL is a piece of cake. Just 4 hours south an you have Memphis, were their more concerned with frozen rain and sleet in the winter. So in perspective it's not a bad winter at all.
The winters suck! That being said they're nowhere near as bad as Minnesota and Chicago. I've lived in all three places, STL desperately more intolerable.
Tanya Sharma Tanya, you’ll be fine. Just be careful here in St.Louis as you should anywhere in the world. Being a student/young professional it won’t be hard for you since the cost of living is still quite low in comparison to other places in USA . Just please research neighborhoods prior to your move. I can recommend a lot of safer areas if you ever need assistance in the near future .
@@nobodycares1423 The STL crime stats say otherwise. STL has consistently been in the top 5 cities of the US for murder for the last 10 years and was at number 1 multiple times counting 2018, the last year the data was compiled.
This was useful although I came to many of the same conclusions as you make here after taking a long, hard look at a number of places. We will be in St Louis next week for an in-person look around. I've been there before but my partner hasn't & is a bit skeptical. We were in Phoenix in March & he liked it very much but I think it has grown too fast. The summer heat, heavy traffic & lack of cosmopolitan attractions are worrisome. St Louis has so many of the pluses found in bigger cities but at lower costs & with smaller crowds. St Louis also has some of the nicest neighborhoods & beautiful old houses in the country as I recall. I look forward to getting reacquainted.
I’m going to be moving to STL in a couple of months. I will be renting ... somewhere. Is it relatively cheap to just rent a place? I won’t be buying right away.
Yes, depending on the neighborhood you choose. If you want to live in the city, you can get a decent apartment for around $600/mo. If you want something nice in the suburbs, it's closer to $2k/mo. I owned a home in the Southampton part of the city. It was a safe area and relatively cheap. I have moved the the suburbs in the past couple years for the schools, though.
Hello John, thank you for this great video, though it's two years old I imagine you feel the same and things haven't changed. My mother just moved to Clayton and I am on the verge of moving to St. Louis myself (from Vegas...blech :( ) I would love to talk to you about where to rent a home at first and then hopefully buy a modestly priced home (do they have yards?) probably by Spring '21. Thanks. Scott
Scott S Hey thanks for the kind words and I hope your mother is enjoying living in Clayton! St. Louis has so many great neighborhoods but unfortunately most rental listings aren’t in our MLS nor represented by real estate agents. Finding a modestly priced home with a small yard is not too difficult to do. When you’re ready, send me a note with your search criteria and price range and I’ll get you set up on an automatic listing alert, or you can sign up yourself JohnVoirolGroup.com!
Violet K. You don’t necessarily need a car to work here. There are a lot of public buses that commute to and from majority of St. Louis. Now there are some areas out where buses and trains won’t go but it won’t prevent you from obtaining work, getting to and from work or home. You can purchase a weekly pass for about $30 Monthly passes are closer to $100/120 . This is good for the buses and trains. You basically just swipe or scan the pass. Most buses run like every 30 -45 minutes with the exception of a couple bus lines running closer to hourly. On sundays usually buses stop running sooner. 9-10pm being around the time the last bus runs for the night before picking up again at around 5:30/6am. There are exceptions. The bus that serves the street Grand Ave runs quite late and a lot more frequent than any other bus I know of. Sometimes there’s a bus coming just 10 mins after missing one and running as late as 1am. If a car is the only thing preventing you from moving here I’d say make that move .
@@nobodycares1423 There are plenty of gangs for you to join and drugs are quite common! Joking aside.....there are plenty of gangs and drugs are quite common.
If you take the STL metrolink, wear your ballistic vest and ignore the other passengers who are quite racist. The bus routes are only slightly better in terms of safety.
How much experience? As long as you're not just staring out and/or not requiring a lot of pay you'll be fine. Keep in mind, I know nothing about your field and am talking about the STL job market as whole, as I've experienced it.
@@iluvcakes19 it'll be my first job out of college so I'm fully expecting to be a pencil pusher or something minor at first. I like working my way up. Not opposed to it at all
Eh. Chesterfield has gone down hill and Maryland Heights is all right if you can get past the adjacent landfill that has clandestinely buried nuclear waste and an underground dumpster fire wherein the officials don't know where the two begin and end.
Could u tell.me. bout senior housing. In So side in particular liar. Loved as a kid there til age22. Wondering about co.ing bl in retirement. Not wealthy
Hi Virginia! By no means is senior housing my specialty, but I did find a great resource for you here: www.seniorhousingnet.com/seniorliving-search/saint-louis_mo/low-income-senior-housing_type . It looks like there are at least 9 options on the South Side of St. Louis City.
If you like gun fights, definitely move to St Louis. Had a couple gang bangers each empty 15 rounds at someone at noontime last month a block away. Was downtown.
The murder rate can be misleading for two reasons: 1- stl "city" is fairly small with plenty of bad neighborhoods. Most of the nice areas are outside of the city itself. 2- the metro area is comprised of many small municipalities. If you want the downtown feel, look at Clayton, Clayton is insanely safe and feels just like a downtown. Look at the crime statistics for the specific neighborhood, and you'll be surprised. It's just that stl has a higher ratio of bad areas to good ones, and the bad areas are really bad. You can find plenty of safe neighborhoods 15minutes from downtown with apts under 1k/mo.
@@birney163 Thanks for that, I was looking at Minneapolis, too. That was my first choice, so it's funny that you brought that up. St. Louis is cheaper. :)
@John Whirling Your idea of progressive is a liberal hole..Portland is far from progressive..Give me that nice 50's thinking any day, and Im in the Bay Area..St Louis sounds nice
Yes. But if you're going to move to STL just do whatever everyone else does (mainly whites), move out into the western suburbs. You'll isolate yourself from what imo makes STL so great, but hey, you'll be safe.
Left STL after 25 years. No thanks. If anyone is thinking about moving to that vicinity...stay out outside of Saint Louis County. You have a 1 in 7 chance of being a victim of a crime and a 1 in 10 chance of being a victim of a violent crime YEARLY just by living in Saint Louis County. I couldn't, in good conscience, give someone advice to move TO STL.
Really? STL city is considered to be worse than the county. In the county you have to worry about police harassment. In the city you have to worry about either your belongings or your life. 😄😄
@@iluvcakes19 I consider the city to reside in STL county and was including all of it. Of course if I had to decide between being IN THE CITY and outside the city, I would pick outside, of course.
THE COST OF LIVING IS THE BEST PART ABOUT ST.LOUIS MISSOURI. OTHER THAN THAT THIS TOWN IS A HELLHOLE. STAY AWAY. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THAN HERE............
In STL the "cost of living" might become the "cost of dying." I'm strapped, locked and loaded if I end up on I-70 or really anywhere in the city. Don't even think about riding the metrolink if you are white.

@Charles Darwin My sister has had 2 people shot on her block in the last 10 years. One was just a dad visiting from out of town. He was shot in his car. She still assures me that St. Louis is a great place to live.
@Charles Darwin lol good ole STL experience.
Im from 🇨🇴
But i relly love living here :3
I'm moving back to my hometown St. Louis on May 18th 2019!!! Can't wait! I miss my city so much.
Update Been back home and loving everything about it.
Nice I’m thinking about moving back to my hometown too
Is it easy to find a job? I’m moving from Alaska and I don’t have any family in St Louis and want to make sure I can get in my feet fast!
Ka'rynne Parks it’s pretty easy to find jobs here. Depends on the field, but our unemployment rate is low.
@@Jeffrey-s6g Did you find a house?
I love st.louis 🙂 I live here!!!We also just got an aquarium And a Ferris wheel
I visited St. Louis when I was a kid but now that I'm a Freeman I would like to live in St. Louis Missouri.
Daniel Hurst Come on back, we’d love to have you!
I moved from st louis when i was 16 only reason i go back, to visit family. Every time i go back to visit reminds me, why i moved away.
And why is that? This comment tells us nothing, it could be because you don't like your family for all we know.
I know the feeling. However as of late I've been rethinking things.
@@davidk2187 OMG HOW STUPID
Moving there this summer. Would love to know where my wife and daughter can bike across town and be near farmers markets and parks. I also need to commute to Scott AFB. What areas would you suggest? Mahalo!
Hi Anthony! You might be surprised to learn you have quite a few options. It's mostly a question of lifestyle. Where do you guys like spend time? What else do you want to be close to? Are school districts important to you? Of course, price is also a consideration. Give me a bit more info and I can make a few suggestions. Mahalo!

Thanks for getting back to me!

I have lived here my whole life
How's the crime?
Ok
You forgot the Cardinals!
The cardinals don’t actually live in Saint Louis, do your research
Scottie Valdez some of the players do😂

How “tolerable” is winter though? That’s what I’m worried about the most is having to drive in the snow
The weather sucks.
It's not the snow; it's the ice.

Excellent video! THANKS
Just a small correction: St. Louis was founded in 1763 by the French.
Would you recommend moving there for someone who’s majoring in/will be pursuing a career in psychology?
Tanya Sharma Tanya, you’ll be fine. Just be careful here in St.Louis as you should anywhere in the world. Being a student/young professional it won’t be hard for you since the cost of living is still quite low in comparison to other places in USA . Just please research neighborhoods prior to your move. I can recommend a lot of safer areas if you ever need assistance in the near future .
yes but PLEASE know what neighborhoods are safe and are not. It's very important.
@@autumnvertodoulos6246 it's rare people get shot or robbed or shot for no reason at all from a complete stranger let's not get carried away.🙄
@@nobodycares1423 The STL crime stats say otherwise. STL has consistently been in the top 5 cities of the US for murder for the last 10 years and was at number 1 multiple times counting 2018, the last year the data was compiled.
STL has GREAT universities and it's a complete blast for college students. However I would suggest trying somewhere else post college.
Let me know what you think!
well i wont be moving to st louis for beer iam 13 years sober but how evr looking fordward to moving to mo
I really like your video thanks I been looking for a place like this. I want to get a home too but I don't know about the jobs in that city?
I will just say that St. Louis was founded in 1764, not 1776. Just a small note.
Brett Crow Thanks, Brett!
Can someone talk to me about the public transporation system? Do you need a car to live and work there?

Wow, THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE! :)
Metrolink train
@@nobodycares1423 There are plenty of gangs for you to join and drugs are quite common! Joking aside.....there are plenty of gangs and drugs are quite common.
If you take the STL metrolink, wear your ballistic vest and ignore the other passengers who are quite racist. The bus routes are only slightly better in terms of safety.
Is it true there’s houses for sell for $2,00?
I have a degree in Criminal Justice. How hard would it be getting a job in that field there?
I have a degree in Criminal Justice. How hard would it be getting a job in that field there?
I guess my question is if the job market is good.

Wanting to leave Denver, CO so badly and I love STL been there many times. I'm seeking west county. Chesterfield or Maryland Heights specifically.
Come on down! Denver is beautiful but St. Louis is more affordable!
Eh. Chesterfield has gone down hill and Maryland Heights is all right if you can get past the adjacent landfill that has clandestinely buried nuclear waste and an underground dumpster fire wherein the officials don't know where the two begin and end.
West county fine... nice even. But imo it loses most of the appeal.
Great choice

Could u tell.me. bout senior housing. In So side in particular liar. Loved as a kid there til age22. Wondering about co.ing bl in retirement. Not wealthy
Hi Virginia! By no means is senior housing my specialty, but I did find a great resource for you here: www.seniorhousingnet.com/seniorliving-search/saint-louis_mo/low-income-senior-housing_type . It looks like there are at least 9 options on the South Side of St. Louis City.
Looks great until you move here and wish you had bullet proof windows.
Not in the decent neighborhoods.
Right on.
5:45 no, it wasn't. The city just celebrated its 250th in 2014, so it was founded in 1764.
My last name is St Louis
If you like gun fights, definitely move to St Louis. Had a couple gang bangers each empty 15 rounds at someone at noontime last month a block away. Was downtown.
The murder rate in St. Louis is 60.9 per 100,000. the city has the highest murder rate in the country.
Still a nice place
The murder rate can be misleading for two reasons:
1- stl "city" is fairly small with plenty of bad neighborhoods.
@@kobeuko4307 lol
Dont come here for safety we're high on the crime list last year we were in the top three

It’s the 1st of the month!!
But you never said a word about being #1 in the nation for crime, and murders
True.
Is is true about high crime rates?
Yes. But if you're going to move to STL just do whatever everyone else does (mainly whites), move out into the western suburbs. You'll isolate yourself from what imo makes STL so great, but hey, you'll be safe.
WUSTL
lol why am I watching this?
The couple who defended their home from blm brought me here
Left STL after 25 years.
JenkinsStevenD yea that’s what happens when you have a city controlled by Democrats
I left there 30 yrs ago and never missed it once. Seriously, google the crime statistics.
