I'm from Missouri and I love my state.
REPRESENT!!! 👏🏻
Same tbh. It's cheap af even to live in the suburbs of major cities.
how safe is it?
The SW part of Missouri, 7000 people and I truly believe That is how many families bring home their food, rent and normal living expenses. Not many people that live here can't get a decent job. When it comes from Federal Government you don't see it. You had it right when you said Misery. Drugs seem the biggest industry.
That's because SW Missouri has a 2nd world economy that mostly revolves around cheap labor, low wages, and jobs that require more advanced education and training are not emphasized or quite often don't exist at all. Springfield is a complete joke with some of the worst wages in the US for any city of its size. Very few good paying jobs at all.
Missouri is great if you don't compare it to literally anywhere else
Exactly correct, anyone with half a brain knows that Missouri is below average across the board. That's why it's cheap, wages are poor, educational attainment is poor, horrible weather most of the year, and far too conservative.
The more I watch your vids the more I feel I should just stay in Missouri and move toward Springfield.
Hey Gio5443, thank you so much! That's probably the highest compliment you can give us. Honestly we love living here. 😁
Here in Camden County anyway, "Missourah" seems to be the preferred pronunciation. We got here in Sept of last year, and I must admit that it does not take long to start pronouncing it like everyone else either. How this state handles personal property tax was the biggest adjustment so far, and all tourists of course. 54 and 5 are both like a parking lot on the weekends.
You've heard a lot of people saying, "Missourah"? It doesn't feel that way in Springfield, at least!
I'm sure Highway 5 and 54 must be CRAZY. You also have Lake of the Ozarks there! 👀
@@wiserlivingrealty I have only been to Springfield once since we moved here. It was the closest city that had a place to service my MacBook, but yeah, it has more of a cosmopolitan vibe for sure. As far as LOZ in our backyard? Yeah, gotta pay to play. We love the enviorment here, but LOTS of other people do too :)
i live in the bootheel and we do not say missourah
My mom was born in Springfield and she says Missourah, my younger sister lives in Lee’s Summit and also says Missourah.
Not true any more paid $210,000 Now house valued $438,000 property tax went up 230% You better know what you getting into these days. Not a cheap place to live like before. I thank the Corps. for buying up everything avalable. Check it out first before you come.
You are dead wrong about Florida. The hard water in the west coast is INSANE!!! Pinellas and Pasco counties, Hillsboro county and the rest of them north and south have a serious issue with hard water.
That's not what we have experienced when we go there! We take a lot of trips out there and maybe it's based on the county we stay but it's always the soft water. 🤷🏻♂️
Definitely depends on county and area. Cheaper or poorer areas have hard water
Most important rule about moving to missouri, if youre from california, oregon, washington or new york then dont move here. And if you still do end up moving here, dont vote the way you did because thats why youre moving away. Dont ruin it for the rest of us.
Yes, whatever you do, make sure that you are backward thinking, racist bigot who embraces guns, telling a woman what she can and can't do with her body and also be supporter of Trump's treason and you will be welcomed with opened arms. I am a life long Missourian too and this state has become an absolute embarrassment of willful idiocracy.
Was raised in the mountain and valley of Southern Oregon....basically it is now southern Cali. It isnt people FROM Oregon that ruined it, but the people that infested it.....oh yea btw.....just bought property in the ozarks, see you around; stay conservative :}
@dennisking4589 just don't vote the way that state went, and there's no problem.
@@648546lllooolll Exactly....we didnt either, until the califonians came....we were able to support a 5 person family, own a home and vehicle, live in town or the woods with one income until the late 90's.
Best part about mountain life is is doesnt matter how YOU vote, just be kind on my Ridge :}
@@dennisking4589 what does "conservative" even mean anymore?
There is also the casinos in Cape Girardeau & Caruthersville.
The Cape one is next to the Mississippi, but not necessarily on it like the floating ones.
I'm not sure on some of those details, maybe it just needs to be within a certain distance? It's a interesting subject!
Hey Jesse, how come you never post your properties on here? My wife and I spend quite a few weekends looking at properties on RUclips. Would be cool to see all the ones you guys have. 🤠😉😎👍
Hey Len! Honestly that's a great idea for us to try in the future! We may have to put some on here. 😂

Soooooooo smooth 😎
This is an Ozarkie's viewpoint. About one third of the State is Ozark wasteland. On my farm the glacial till reaches up to 200 feet deep before reaching bedrock.
I mean, it's ALL covered with land so there is no shortage of green! lol
I love missouri, visited Branson, MO back in 2018 went to silver dollar city amusement park...I loved it 🤩 had so much fun. Missouri is just Arkansas big brother.
We love Silver Dollar City, too!! Arkansas has some AMAAAAZING places to visit too, when you look for them. 😄
I know less about MO after watching this video than I did before. I do know more about this guy and his likes / dislikes.
Missouri is gorgeous
We think so too! 🌳🤩

It was a skating rink before??? That's amazing! What a 'cool' place to skate!
The locals say if you’re in between I 44 and the James River Freeway you don’t have to worry about tornadoes.
They verrrrrrrry rarely touch down in the area, I'd say yes. 😂
It's Missourah around here. Missouree is St. Louis and the carpetbaggers during and after the war, and their children.
no one says missoura around springfield unless their old
That's how I feel about it 🤷🏻♂️
10 months after this video, I am an old man. I went to school (at the time SMSU) in Springfield, or as I like to call it, Sprangburg. I live in Europe. I know Italy very well, Germany even better. I am considering moving back to the US. Specifically Missouri (among other candidates). Springfield would be at the top of my list if I choose Misery (ex-pat false spelling).

How does one buy a reasonable home under $100,000 in Missouri. I'm done with Iowa but we can get rather nice homes in small towns up here for 50-80.... Well. We could before we ended up with a failure for a president. Now a 4xk house is valued at 80k+ and you can get more.

Missourah is the old-time pronunciation, which is why I've long preferred it. It hasn't yet been completely overtaken by Missouree, thankfully.
Great video. I've been looking for a new house for the last two years. To get the price I can afford, I have mostly looking in Missouri, Iowa and Maine.

7% income tax sucks! personal property tax sucks!! the roads/bridges are in bad shape because the idiots in jeff city won't raise the gas tax because of trucking lobbyists!!
FYI, we are 10% below national tax average. The roads are fine and maybe you should get a better job. Also get a house you can actually afford.
@@REXYofthe501st LOL, most of Missouri is a low wage cesspool, that's why there is a big brain drain of educated people that move out of the state for better opportunities elsewhere.
I personally love living here in the Stl suburbs. It's cheap and it allows me to live alone on a teaching salary.
That's great! I know many people haven't had that experience. That's awesome for you! Our teachers should be able to do that. 😁
I’m moving to Columbia from Poplar Bluff.
I have high hopes for Columbia, and nothing good to say about PB, except the VA there is very good to Veterans.
No downtown, no culture, no diversity, limited restaurant options, Walmart, and churches.
Columbia is like a shining light after living in this desolation of a town.
I hope that Columbia is a better place for you then! They should have a bit more culture and diversity 😂
that diversity thing will bite ya some day
@@davehughesfarm7983 Nope, Columbia is much better in most categories compared to the southern Missouri wasteland areas of West Plains and Poplar Bluff that have massive poverty and drug problems.

Missouri compared to Michigan? I want to move my family to Missouri. Hows the job market? Anyone in Missouri please help 😂
Depends on the job you're looking for! Teaching, medical, construction, retail, I feel like do very well here. There are SO many jobs you can find here. If you're a marine biologist, chances are you can't find a job here 😂 but it's all on what you're looking for!
They generally pay much less as well.
No, stay in Michigan, wages are complete garbage in most of Missouri. That's why the cost of living is lower. So, it's mostly a trap.
Thinking about moving, seems like a cheaper version of Kansas

It's MUCH prettier than KS.
Missouri and Kansas are both inferior states in most categories, cheap for many reasons.
what about the personal property tax?
Yes, we DO have personal property tax. And it's pretty low here. It really just depends on the county you end up in will determine how much that is.
@@wiserlivingrealty would you touch on this topic, since I know there are people moving there from places that don't have personal property tax, like which things are taxed.

There is a lot of good quality areas in Missouri the only thing to remember is if move close to the river any river most of that land will be on what's call the river bottoms and will be proved to flooding. Best advise is to do a good amount of research.
Was living there as a child, my father died...good enough reason to call it misery.
Sorry for your loss!
The lakes are man-made lakes.
Yes, many of them are! And they are BIG too!
Correct, they are inferior reservoirs compared to much better naturally occurring lakes Up North. If anyone is from the Great Lakes region, New England, or northern Rocky Mountains states, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
How come you never went back to kayaking?
Are you wanting a video on kayaking in the area?
were the " show me " state
Yes we are! 🙌🏻
After moving here I would never recommend people to move here. All three major cities, including Springfield, are in the top 100 high crime cities in the US. The personal property tax is atrocious. Go to SW Missouri where Springfield is and you'll see hourly wages that are not nearly keeping up with cost of living. Mix that with the personal property tax and you'll see a community with some of the oldest and most broken vehicles on the roadway, it's because people can't afford newer cars because the personal property tax is so high. Missouri is a blue state pretending to be a red state. Missouri ranks one of the worst for healthcare and for healthy living. I have never seen so many 40 year old obese people with walkers in my entire life. They all put on a show that they ware down to earth and neighborly, which isn't true at all some of the biggest scammers I have come across. Just research how the airport was built, how Springfield spends and launders tax payer money so they can hide it. Look up how many police chiefs or fire chiefs in this region have been arrested or ousted for corruption or crime. The number is highly staggering. Compare this city with similar sized "metro" areas and there is a complete lack of amenities because these people don't like change or do something fraudulent to scam potential companies from coming in. The outlying jurisdictions will raise sales tax rather than have more businesses move as there is a complete misunderstanding how business and revenue works. Some of the rudest and most entitled people I have ever met are from here. I have lived all over and this is the weirdest place I have ever been.
Damn you got it all backwards
Correct, most all of Missouri is a low wage wasteland that is below average across the board.
We drive older cars because A we like them and B they are more reliable.
Also, how stupid are you?
You forgot that no one acts like they have a life, therefore they are constantly in your business both personally and professionally. Nothing is sacred or private if you live here. Bible thumpers are the most critical, hypocritical people you'll ever meet.
If you're not a close minded conservative, get ready to be judged for everything you do.
Any advice for someone moving to southwest missouri looking to start over? Looking for a house to rent(cheap) in a small safe town like neosho or nixa.
Welcome home! 😊 If you want “safer”, definitely stick to the outskirt towns of Springfield like Willard, Republic, Nixa, etc.
The further you go out, the cheaper the real estate too.

Which areas are less tornado-prone?
It's tough because tornadoes in the area are random. There are a few areas around here that we know are less tornado prone! That's because we live North of the Ozark Hills. When we usually get wind from the South we usually get passed over when tornadoes come!
Usually south central I'd say
None, Missouri is tornado prone just like most of Flyover Country.
Definitely not true about Tampa Bay Area and Sarasota. Even Orlando. This cities have the hardest water out of any state I’ve been in. 😂😂

Sure, there are areas that are super "murdery" as you put it, but in those cases there are safe areas and unsafe areas too!! in general, it is a high risk area but not near as much as OK or eastern TX. I think a bigger challenge are the rural country roads once you get off the main highways. Quite narrow, no shoulders and lots of bends and small hills provide a ton of blind spots plus tons of deer and other critters crossing the roads means you gotta pay attention at all times.
