Love the video. I used to live in St.Louis but moved in1969 to New Jersey. I was 13. Am now 67 and have never felt like a northeasterner. Both of my parents were born there and my mother was a fashion illustrator for Styx, Baer & Fuller and..the other big dept. store at that time, slips my memory right now. Miss the peanut cake (they never heard of that up here, and you can't get it). Miss the common day politeness of Midwesterners that is non existent up here. Oh just thought of it, Famous Barr. Thank you.

I love STL been going thier for vists semi often for 15 years. More so lately as some people think I live thier.
One very big thing about places to eat or St Louis food is ST Louis BBQ / St Louis ribs daaa. Sugar Fire and Pappy's are very popular and highly rated. You didn't mention Union Station especially at night it's minutes walk from the Arch ( awesome lighting at night) / river front or City Museum.
Also taxes in Mo are low and gas is lower then most any other state around. I fill up and bring a gas can so I can make it home without stopping and spending $$ on gas. Another thing is cars last longer then some midwest states due to warmer climate and less road salt. Maybe I should make a guide.

    • @jodueren

Hi Daniel! I wish I could explain why downtown just never seems to get any traction. It's frustrating for a St Louis lover like me. SO much beautiful architecture, so much history and great places to eat and drink. I know St Louis gets a lot of bad press about the crime stats but I can tell you I am in downtown often and I never feel unsafe or threatened. I regularly bring my children downtown to ballgames or to City Museum, the Blues Museum or any number of downtown events. Never felt worried, never had a bad experience.

I feel like STL should be a digital nomad or WFH mecca with the life-hack prices, but I've never visited so I really dont know the vibe in gathering places. I accidentially moved to st Louis from san francisco due to a job transfer and believe me it was the most uptight place I have ever lived. There seemed to be no mixing of cultures there the whites were with whites and the black were with blacks but somehow eventually fell in love with the city it seemed to grow on you. My best friend who worked for one of the hospitals there made living there woth it. I have to say if it wasn't for him i would have blown my brains out no pun intended. It was all about where did you go to high school and who do you know here, very local attitude. I will say that the city is so full of beautiful articuture and wonderful parks I now live in hollywood fl between miami and ft lauderdale but I will say I miss st louis quite a lot of crime in miami and ft lauderdale is forever growing so no place is perfect but if you are someone who might be trying to get your life together and not be in the party scene and just want a normal life st louis can provide the perfect enviroment for you.

I am considering moving to St. Louis from Indianapolis and am curious about the infrastructure. Indy has some big infrastructure issues like potholes, no streetlights (outside of downtown), and a need to either replace or redo the sewer system. How solid is the infrastructure there?

    • @jodueren
      @jodueren  4 года назад

It will 100% depend on what part of St Louis you end up in. St Louis City sometimes has some tougher budget restrictions although a complete lack of streetlights is never an issue. I am a native St. Louisian who relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1983 as a result of a job transfer. I went to both high school and college ( University of Missouri at St. Louis ) where I graduated. Knowing what I know now I would NEVER have relocated to Central Florida. The heat and humidity here are stifling, although winters are comfortable. I grew up in North St. Louis county which has deteriorated over the years and on a 50th high school reunion in 2018 I returned and stayed with friends and visited family. The entire community has progressively moved further west and south such that the population has effectively broadened going out past St. Charles County as you cross the Missouri River heading west. There has been an ongoing and repeatedly defeated attempt to merge the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County with no success. If you live in the City of St. Louis and work there, you pay a city earnings tax which does not apply if you live in St. Louis County. While I lived there I lived and worked in North St. Louis County, West St. Louis County and South County. To this day I maintain ongoing friendships with people that I have known since the early 1960s, went to grade school with, high school with and college with. While I have great relationships with people here in the Orlando and Central Florida areas, it simply is not home and that is why I plan to eventually return back to St. Louis after all these years. I would recommend living in the far west county or in St. Charles County. The City of St. Louis has many features and the ethnic foods ( particularly Italian ) are fantastic !

I grew up outside of St Louis and worked there 19 years before moving to rural Ohio, I miss Missouri a lot and would like to move back ,but definitely not St. Louis city or county. Too hot, too polluted, and way too crowded !

    And the utilities
    Inexpensive trash pickup service.
    Very expensive sewer service
Water is charged by the rooms/bathrooms and other things.
Gas and electricity are not as expensive

What about diversity? That’s one of the most important aspects. Can you please add some information about that?

You are 100% correct. One of St Louis biggest challenges is the divisions within our communities and systemic racism. I feel like that should be an entire video all on its own. We have so much to learn as a city and so much healing to do. Thank you for bringing it up and yes, I would like to talk about that more. This is a tough platform to begin those conversations but they are important conversations nonetheless. You got my brain working.

I think you have the ability to be an excellent advocate. You stated that you’re super proud of your town, with that being said I’d say that you’d be for the idea of making St. Louis into the very best that is can possibly be. The fact You are aware of an important issue that stands as a flaw, will you be willing to work towards improving your city where that is concerned?

I don't know how I missed this response. Apologies for Not responding sooner. Sometimes these comments get buried in the feed. Absolutely yes! I've spent the last 20 years living and working in St Louis city and the surrounding areas. I'm passionate about St Louis and ALL of it's citizens. Keeping the conversation going is absolutely key to improving the divisions and racial issues that St Louis has been struggling to overcome. Always open to new ideas on how to keep progress happening.

Please please please lower the volume on your intro music when you show your business logo !!! It's WAY too loud compared to your voice in the video -- like I have to quickly mute it or wake everyone up!! Far too loud! Thanks!

Thank you...yes, I didn't notice that it was doing that until after several of my first videos were made. I have turned it all the way down on the most recent videos and I'll make sure I continue to turn it down in the future. Hope you found some useful info in there anyhow!

Most large metropolitan areas have the good and the bad. I think Kansas City is rated as a better place to live, but the ratings are pretty subjective.
