    With all the negative publicity St. Louis typically gets, this is a breath of fresh air. I am a lifelong STL resident, and yes, we have our faults, but I have always, and continue to love it here. This video was very well done, and it highlighted a bunch of good stuff that is all St. Louis. Yet, it did make me feel a bit guilty, as I rarely go to the places he recommends, and sadly, there are a couple places that I have never been to! Here are a couple of other STL perks: We have a low cost of living, we are centrally located in the US, we have 4 distinct seasons (usually), the arts are great, and we usually get all the big concerts. Three last points about Forest Park: 1) It was the site of the 1904 World's Fair, 2) It is substantially larger than Central Park in NYC, and 3) It is home to The Muny, the largest outdoor theater in the country, where Broadway-type shows are shown every summer in front of an audience of 9 thousand or so patrons, each show lasting a week, all outdoors.

    • @Vickiak03
      @Vickiak03 Год назад +1

      You’re so right on all counts! Forest Park is 1300 acres, 500 acres larger than Central Park. I wish he would have mentioned The Missouri History Museum, also free, but completely so. NO charge for any exhibit and there’s a great kids exhibit, too.

      @@monoXcide01 Not necessarily. I can usually find Free Parking on Lagoon, just off Skinker, near The Cascades. It can be a bit of a walk, true. But on a nice summer day its just fine. And during Spring/Fall, the road near the Zoo is usually easy to get parking on. Once again, It can be a little bit of a walk, but not much. Also depends on what day on the week. Weekends are harder.

    I grew up in St. Louis decades ago. Currently living in Central Florida, I was last there in 2018 for a high school reunion. Flying into Lambert Airport, I was met by a dear friend who let me stay in he and his wife's place and while staying with him in West St. Louis county, we toured much of the city and county which brought back memories. I later stayed with another friend who , likewise, let me stay with him for a few days too. Similarly we toured the old neighborhoods ( now with some degree of caution ) which have radically changed. With this guy we toured the brewery, had a bunch of great foods. On my way back to Florida I was back at the airport and my last great meal was at the Pasta House which rivals most places here. Had I had time, we would have gone to a restaurant on The Hill, which features Italian restaurants that are 3rd and 4th generation places that have noteworthy food from the time when Italian people immigrated from the old country to St. Louis.

      How do you rate Hodas Restaurant. I spent about four years visiting family in STL. I love their BBQ and there approach to sales. They cook their BBQ early and when they run out that’s it they close shop. Being from the East when you run out you cook more. You have a great 👍 city. My family member move and I will probably never get to see your great 👍 city. Fortunately I visited all the sites listed.

      @Nice One What are your sources for this? I read a lot about my city too, even though I've moved away. Particularly music history here is famous - I was in a painter's house in Kyoto, she asked me where I was from, and immediately wanted to talk about the blues...Anyways, I don't believe having missed out on historic opportunities to grow to the likes of Chicago or NY would have made the city great. Sure, they're huge but are also saddled with many problems.
      The site which Saint Louis sits on is ancient. As long as there are rivers and civilizations, the city will always be there.

      @Nice One Thanks for the links.
      I myself live in one of those big cities.
      Personally I don't care about St. Louis' popularity or not, and it doesn't determine the great cities.The river is it's most defining characteristic, and I would rather see it become a symbol of nature than urban-industrial power.
      The desire to become a great city has brought much trouble.

      It's still pretty rough in st louis. These are just tourist sites. Just in the last month there were three pew pew incidents just a block away from Forest Park. Stay near the tourist sites, and don't believe anyone trying to get change for a bus to see aging grandma. They're just addicts looking for a fix.

    "St. Louis Style" BBQ is a favorite all over eastern Missouri. I'm from New Madrid MO. Growing up (1970's-1980's) beef and pork were almost always dry rubbed then grilled while chicken was always grilled with wet sauce on it (re-applied several times while grilling).

    Legend has it the Gooy butter cake was a accident invntion by a baker from a local St. Louis grocery store chain. Also if you do a update to the video don't forget to mention that Forest park has buildings still standing from the 1904 world's fair. One last thing if you can, make friends with some locals and ask them about pork steaks. A grilled pork steak with Busch beer is the best bbq you'll ever have! Oh and toasted ravioli! Awesome video!

    As a St Louis native let me say great job on this video! I watch a lot of them that have incorrect info, wrong pics of different cities. This one hit the nail right on the head. Plus, it reminded me of some things I haven't done in a while or forgot to do. I did see the comment below - The Muny is amazing and it's the largest outdoor theater in one of the biggest city parks (as you mentioned). Also look at Main Street St Charles next time you come into town - historical, lots of shops and a huge variety of restaurants/bars - although technically not in "St Louis". Thanks for promoting our city as well as you did.

I would add the World Chess Museum and Hall of Fame (also the world's largest Chess piece is there), Lacledes Landing, the National Blues Museum, and the Scott Joplin House. I agree that Salt and Smoke has the best BBQ, while the others are as great as they can be. Other local foods include toasted ravioli and pig snoots (at Smoki O's). Imos rocks as always as far as pizza, but some other great places for St Louis style pizza include Frank and Helen's, Erio's and Pirrone's. Again, awesome video
