    Of the seven (7) Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Greater STL, only ONE (1) is based in the city St. Louis that would be Ameren, the regional electric utility. The other six (6) are all in St. Louis County: Centene(*), Emerson Electric(*), Graybar(*), Olin(*), Reinsurance Group of America, and Edward Jones. The(*) are based in the City of Clayton, including Emerson relocating from Ferguson in 2024. Furthermore, if Enterprise Mobility (EHI) with annual revenue of $35 billion were ranked by Fortune that would further bolster Clayton’s dominance as the regions commercial center.

      Wow I didn't realize that breakdown of the fortune 500's being in STL proper vs. STL County, but that makes perfect sense when you say it. I'm not surprised at all that Clayton is the main hub for those which are located in STL county!

    daughter moving some where close to washington u for med school, we'll be visiting often. How familiar are you both with short term rental rules in both counties

      While affordability is generally a relative question compared to both coasts, Florida, Texas, and perhaps Chicago, St. Louis is generally affordable. WUSM is located in the city of STL and in an area that is gentrifying to an extent. The landlords in the area know their core constituencies at medical center and the pricing and availability of units reflects the Residency cycle. The city of St. Louis passed a short term rental ordinance in 2023.

      Congrats to your daughter on admission to WUSM. It’s a great school and you should be very proud.

      Used to live very close to WashU. She will be best off in St. Louis City in the Central West End neighborhood or in University City. Great areas super close (potentially walkable) to WashU.
      It is difficult to get a lease for less than 12 months anywhere, but we were able to negotiate a six month lease in the Central West End for a higher rent.

    The St. Louis Zoo is actually anything but free, if you live in St Louis County. I used to live in Ballwin, and in my property tax breakdown, I had $800 a year for the zoo…if I went there or not. What!? And that was on a $300,000 house. Think about how many times you would have to go to a zoo you “have to pay for” to break even. Oh my gosh; what a hustle. Now that I live in St Charles County, the zoo really is free for me (thanks to all of the families in St Louis County paying a bajillion dollars a year for upkeep).

    • @chuckm1961
      @chuckm1961 20 дней назад

      Right. You paid $600 per year in taxes directly to support the zoo. Sure you did.

    St.Louis County is more liberal and they vote Democrat (despite not wanting criminals from the City of St.Louis causuing alot of crime coming in) while St.Charles County (as well as Jefferson County, Franklin County, and Warren County) are extremely conservative and vote republican. Is there any explanation to why St.Louis County still votes Democrat despite not wanting any crime nor criminals at all?

      Wow, a lot to unpack from this comment. "St Louis County doesn't want criminals from St Louis City." Does voting Republican send the criminals to Australia? Care to elaborate?

    • @CJColvin
      @CJColvin 3 месяца назад

      @@Beefinator5000 If you vote Republican (thats conservative and not a Rhino) then they send criminals and thugs to jail or prison and keeps em there where they belong and sends bums to rehab centers and the homeless to shelters or retirement homes and get better treatment as well but if you vote Democrat (thats nothing but a real progressive that also loves abortion and gay marriage) then they just let criminals and thugs roam in the streets while terrorizing innocent people who are just working hard and making a living or terrorizing folks (especially young folks) who's just want to enjoy the Urban vibe and culture of the big city or just being on a date while enjoying the scenery and of course these evil Democrats 😈 have no morals values for the person life.

      St. Louis County is good…st. Louis City is what puts St.Louis in the top spot range for murders in the country (aka ‘the most dangerous cities in the US’).
