As someone who has lived in Lansing for 20 years, and has visited family in Saginaw plenty of times, this video doesnt exactly highlight a lot of the negatives that come with a lot of these cities, like with Saginaw, the economy is not great at all and it left a lot of the buildings abandoned, and with Lansing, I love my hometown, but there really isnt much to do besides going to bars. East Lansing is a lot better but it still has similar issues, if you're legitimately considering moving to Michigan, as you'll see with a lot of these commenters, Grand Rapids is a very nice place to live, same with most of the suburbs of Detroit, just be prepared for heavy traffic anywhere in that area

Is getting around town gonna be OK even like for people who don't own a car? I am on a fixed income, and do not plan on commuting to Detroit much. @@OtomoTenzi Ferndale is in Royal Oak, but to my knowledge, and from what I’ve seen, public transportation isn’t the best in counties like Oakland, since they’re an extremely suburban part of Detroit. Downtown Detroit is really the only place in Michigan that has very good public transportation. If you want to live somewhere quiet and near a lot of stuff, I’d suggest Owasso. Very affordable living there, and they have a lot of stores/food places and a decently large downtown area for a small town. Id say it’s about 45 mins to an hour from Detroit and 40 minutes from Lansing, only downside is there’s prob not any good public transportation

The rest of the places in this list are places I would never recommend anyone to live reasons being they either have nothing to do (like Lansing) or are sketchy/ghetto like Kalamazoo, Saginaw, and Muskegon

Having lived in Michigan for 70 years, I miss Michigan, my family and friends. After residing in St Louis, Missouri, for the last six years, I am ready to move back. The last summer was way too hot to suffer through.
Traverse City - (pronounced Trav-erse City) is fantastic - I made the move during the pandemic. Yes, it is expensive to live in the "city", which is only 8 square miles with population of 15,000. The good news is that is less expensive outside the city limits with Grand Traverse (Trav-erse) County having a population over 100,000 people. Year round recreation including swimming, boating, biking, skiing, golfing and more. With great schools, miles of beaches, fantastic restaurants, festivals, wineries, shopping, microbreweries, an abundance of lodging options, distilleries, entertainment, lighthouses, Sleeping Bear Dunes - there's something for everyone. There's even an airport with convenient flights. An amazing place to live, work, play, or just vacation. Come visit, and you may never want to leave!

Some of the Saginaw views were edited because Saginaw is filled with urban decay & also pretty much has as much bad crime per capita as Flint and Detroit.
There are still some very nice areas in the city proper, such as northmoore, Adams Blvd, n w neighborhoods on west side neighborhood directly south of Arthur hill and s Jefferson on east side. Plus many good neighborhoods in Saginaw twp, Thomas twp, and Bridgeport. Saginaw has many nice areas, and old town is really nice. As a city 10:10 Saginaw is much nicer than most people realize.
@@Steven-et9hs it does have some nice areas and will be ok if the few businesses that still exist hold up but a lot of them are going downhill... For the past 20-24 years people have been pulling for a Renaissance of sorts... It seems so far the attempts have failed.

Best places to live in Michigan are places people never heard of. I use to live in Hartland Michigan and was a small town back in the 70's and 80'. That all changed now.

Based on your criteria, you should consider Ferndale. A very walkable town with public transportation. Over the last decade, it has become very trendy and pride-friendly with resulting economic development. As such, the expected increase in home values has occurred. The average Ferndale home value is $242,000. Neighboring Hazel Park is beginning to follow suit but their cost of living is easier with average home prices of only $160,000. It's easy in both towns to determine best and worst places to live.
@@rickhickman1935 OK, but how are the winter seasons like over there? If everything is kinda close by, I could just walk home after grocery shopping. But if it's gonna be quite some distance away (like at least 2 miles) and requires taking the bus, I know it can be DANGEROUS to wait for the bus outside in the dead freezing cold of winter. Especially when I get older, later on after retirement. Will that be a problem tho? Hazel Park sounds pretty nice, BTW. Thanks for the helpful info!
Winter is winter and you can plan on at least 5 months of it. Ferndale is less than 2 miles x 2 miles and there are 3 grocery stores. 2 of them are right in the middle of the downtown section so you'll never be that far.
@@rickhickman1935 That sounds good... Ferndale sounds like a pretty nice place to start lookin' fer a place to live. Thanks again for all the helpful info, my friend!👍
I thought this list is "8 best". At least 3-4 areas need clarification. Some of these areas have both good and bad sides. The average home cost is reflected by both the less desirable areas and desirable. There are many areas that are rated higher than these, and are affordable. Anyone looking to move to some of these areas, be sure to do all your research.
I've lived in both traverse city and kalamazoo. Traverse city is pretty expensive/exclusive. Literally no rental market beyond vrbo's. You will be homeless if you don't have family with a home in TC, or can't afford a luxury condo. Literally, NO rentals. Kalamazoo is affordable, but it's Kalamazoo. It has a trader joes and decent colleges for the trade off, and it's closely located to many other cities.

I was born in Saginaw and lived there most of my life. No one moves there! Its a run down, crime ridden city. Especially the city limits. GM moved out, the tax base is gone. Very sad...😢
I lived in GR for most of my life up until I was around 40. I never paid $1000+ for rent. Perhaps in the upscale projects but who wants to live so close to people?
I had to laugh at the statement that Michigan has a 'robust job market ' I was born and raised there and lived there 50 years but I had to move to make a living. In 10 years in Nashville I've made more money than the previous 30 in Michigan!
I grew up in Saginaw. At one time it was a great town. Then GM closed the four major factories and the town died. Gang warfare broke out, mostly on the east side and southeast part of town but it also spread over to the west side. I got out of that town and I'll never go back. I know people who still live there and they tell me nothing's improved. I stopped watching this video at that point because I figured the rest would just as much BS.
I was raised in Monroe but liked Ann Arbor better. By far, I loved the UP, especially in Copper Harbor. Escaped Michigan in 1983 for Florida and never regretted that decision! No snow and no cannabis shops, and roads with no pot holes!

@@ericrivera8410 I'm sure that was exciting but how was your daily life affected by those brief interactions? We'll take peace, safety and nice people over your cheap thrills.
Made me laugh when the narrator tried to pronounce Traverse City, Saginaw and Muskegon 😂 , he is not from Michigan. I’ve lived in both Grand Rapids and Royal Oak. Meijer is a everything store with great groceries, but he really pronounced it wrong.
Honestly surprised Munith and Stockbridge aren't on this list. They are very nice towns, and everyone is friendly. No crime ever happens. I should know because I live in Munith. Nothing crime-related ever happens. Just peaceful here. But, of course, these towns don't have much popularity, so why would they be here?
Uh wait a minute that is the Wisconsin state capitol not Michigan's. Perhaps that was done intentionally because the Wisconsin capitol is far better looking.
I have to disagree with most od the cities you mentioned! I lived across Michigan ans the best towns i lived in were Arcadia, benzonia, Onekama, and Kalkaska. Traverse city is beautiful but not as good. Manestee Nd bear lake are ok too. Kalamazoo,Saginaw and Grand Rapids are not si good. Kalamazoo is supposed to be one of the poorest cities and high crime rate. Detroit being the worst. CRYSTAL LAKE IS ONE OF THE MOST GORGEOUS SMALL TOWNS IN Michigan. Frankfort is beautiful as well despite being small.
I wish the creator had learned how to pronounce places! He messed up Traverse City, Muskegon, and Meijer Gardens. Makes it not very credible. Not planning to like this one as a result. I'm a small town Michigander -- and no small towns are mentioned!
Adrian Michigan is not a good place to live I live there all my life it was horrible when I was younger I went to school there I always got into fights the people there won't even let nobody alone yhere always picking on each other now I'm gone and doing alot better if you live in Adrian always go to church and try to make friends with church people because it's hard place to live its better if you got a church and church family
Please check pronunciation -- and not by listening to other RUclips videos. It's Musk-EE-gun, not MUSK-e-gon. And TRA-verse rhymes with "flat purse" -- for both the city and the bay. Also, Meijer sounds like Meyer -- and the garden is named for the family that owns the grocery store chain...the family of Peter Meijer, member of Congress from 2020 to 2022.
Why would you use a photo of downtown Chicago River in a piece about Michigan? Your opening shit is Chicago, ILLINOIS not Micjgan 2:09 lazybediting 2:202:22

It is pronounced Musk -EE- gun. Accent is on the second syllable. Traverse city is pronounced TRAV-erse city, accent on the first syllable. Meijer is pronounced My-er. The J is not pronounced. I like your facts but you need to research pronunciation of the cities and towns you are talking about.

I had to laugh at the statement that Michigan has a 'robust job market '
I was born and raised there and lived there 50 years but I had to move to make a living.
I like snow and cannabis
Saginaw?? Hardly
Not everyone wants to live in a city. Our rural towns are the BEST around!
I live in NY I've met Madonna Cher Cyndi lauper chakah Khan Leonard nimoy ru Paul Snoop dog etc ..lots of famous people rural towns for me anyway are boring
@@ericrivera8410 I'm sure that was exciting but how was your daily life affected by those brief interactions? Suburban or rural towns enjoy the fact that we don't have to put our lives at risk every day and don't panic that everything we own may be taken from us.
Only a few listed are good. Saginaw. Come on. Really. How about a Holland, MI ?
When it overcrowded with Mulims ❤it will be similar to Gaza Strip ❤❤
Uh wait a minute that is the Wisconsin state capitol not Michigan's. Perhaps that was done intentionally because the Wisconsin capitol is far better looking.
Highest car insurance. Fix the damn roads, was a joke! Electric car on welfare? Ok!!!!!!
The east side of where i live is the best
How is South Haven? Anyone living there? I'm considering to come and study there
You will love it all year long
My goodness. Do your research into how the names are pronounced.
Clearly the narrator of this video is not from Michigan. He mis-pronounces Traverse City, Muskegon, and Saginaw.
Michigan is 6th in the country for people fleeing the state and no true Michigan native wants more trunk slammers here
Very hard as a native to hear these names butchered. How hard is it to look up pronunciation?
Nice video, I am waiting my f4 category visa, if I got my visa, my next city for my family is mecgan city,
I wish the creator had learned how to pronounce places! He messed up Traverse City, Muskegon, and Meijer Gardens. Makes it not very credible. Not planning to like this one as a result. I'm a small town Michigander -- and no small towns are mentioned!
saginaw? LAWL you can tell this is some foreigner to the usa that made a channel for views!
Too many Muslims in Michigan.
Adrian is horrible place I didn't have a choice I was born there I had to quit school because people were mean and I had to fight
How can admit a university ?
In this city
Can anyone help me about this matter ? Please
Hillsdale
"MichiGEN"??? What?
No problem with Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Traverse City. The rest of the list is a joke.
Why would you use a photo of downtown Chicago River in a piece about Michigan? Your opening shit is Chicago, ILLINOIS not Micjgan 2:09 lazybediting 2:20 2:22
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I suggest you learn how to pronounce the names of the places that you are highlighting. good luck finding any place to rent in Traverse city for under 1200 a month.
Your right on his pronounting
A few of these cities are absolute dumps.
Please pay a few dollars and pay a human to narrate. I was born in Saginaw and did high school in a suburb of Muskegon and you butchered both names.
Is the narrator a bot?
Enjoyed video other than mispronouncing and spelling errors
They are slathering the pronunciations of places in Michigan.😅
U pronounced about the viries names incorrectly lol
Cities oops
There isn’t none
Please learn the correct pronunciations of the cities.
You forgot Tireman and Livernois in Detroit!
Being a politician then i try to provide you with heath benefits. Only this super variety pacs are help for your health more cheaper than ever private insurance.
Might want to learn how to pronounce the names of the cities before doing something like this.
It is pronounced Musk -EE- gun. Accent is on the second syllable. Traverse city is pronounced TRAV-erse city, accent on the first
syllable. Meijer is pronounced My-er. The J is not pronounced. I like your facts but you need to research pronunciation of
the cities and towns you are talking about.
Muss-KE-gun, not MUS-keegun, out-of-stater.
Anyone can tell you are not from Michigan...Try pronouncing town names correctly.
Seriously! Not to be insulting, but this guy has a bunch of screws loose. He doesn’t even pronounce the cities correctly. The only cities/ towns on this list that are nice are Traverse City, Royal Oak ,Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor. The rest have high crime and bad neighborhoods or like Kalamazoo they are boring.
you really need to learn the pronunciations of cities.
