Thank you for producing your informative and helpful videos. As a person recently suffering moderate loss of hearing in one ear I am still unlcear whether this is treated using one or two hearing aids and have not seen any videos on any channel covering this topic. Would this be a good topic to cover in future as I understand there are cross/bi-cross designs and not clear where they would be relevant?

Hey Vincent. Thanks for watching and taking the time to feed back! This all depends on the degree of your hearing loss. We would look at a CROS/BICROS normally if there was a non-functioning ear on the poor side. Is that the case? Thanks for watching, Matthew

@@TheHearingGuy Thank you for clarifying Matthew. Amazingly I have experienced hearing improvement of c 10- 15 dB following steroid medication, even 3 months after the initial eustachian tube blockage and potential infection. Will await the comments of my ENT doctors later this week to see where we go next!

For me I went to my Audiologist and got tested because I am not able to hear sounds at all without my hearing aids in and I am not able to hear and understand speech and need to be able to block the background sounds and amplify speaking voices enough for me to hear some of it and understand it. I get frustrated not be able to hear and understand speech especially in crowds of people and in vehicles because I hear nothing from the people who are talking to me because I am not able to pull out the sounds of speech from everything else. So I know that I need hearing aids and my Audiologist just gave me the best hearing aids with the most amplification possible and power to help me hear sounds I am not able to hear at all without my hearing aids. Hopefully with my next hearing aids I will have more amplification to be able to hear more sounds and understand speech better. You are right that wearing hearing aids does not make everything loud because I have a lot of amplification but the sounds are not loud for the at all and I hear everything at the same time and tone with my hearing aids. I just need the most amplification possible to be able to hear the sounds at all and bring them up to a level where I am able to hear them. My way of hearing I think is different from people who are able to hear sounds without hearing aids because I do not hear sounds in different tones and I hear everything at once so I am not able to tell where the sounds are coming from. I heard some clicking sounds for the first time and had no idea what it was because I never heard it before but it ended up being footsteps walking on a tile floor but I had no idea that the sounds were coming from the floor with my hearing aids and that they were footsteps because I never heard anything at all before. But it is awesome to be able to hear things like that for the first time and I thought maybe this is what it is like for people who can hear and I wanted to find out if I could hear anything else. They are just sounds being picked up by my hearing aids but they are awesome when you heard nothing at all before.

Wearing hearing aids can be really overwhelming to start off with as it's a case of retraining the brain to find a new way of listening. This comes with time and patients and the end results should be lifechanging. Thanks for watching Larry!

@@TheHearingGuy You are right about that and you have to get used to hearing sounds that you were not able to hear at all before and figure out what they are and where they are coming from and it is really confusing at first. I am getting Oticon X ceed Ultrapower hearing aids now because they have the most amplification possible and power and are supposed to be better for hearing and understanding speech so I am hoping with more amplification and power and something to block and do something with the background sounds for me I will be able to hear some more sounds of speech better. If I am in a vehicle the sounds of it mask the person speaking to me so I hear nothing but hopefully with the Xceeds I can do something with the background sounds and have more amplification and power to be able to get some of the sounds up enough to be able to hear some of them and understand it.

16 years ago I did not know NHS offered a free hearing aid. So once my old hearing aid broke down for years I went to school without any. Because I thought I need to buy one.
Some years later I decided to get one from NHS. My dad pushed me to go see them. Propably fed up I can't hear him.
Once NHS fitted me with new hearing aids. In the end, I was asking how much? The nurse said it is for free, the government covers them. To my surprise, I was shocked. Was thinking about why I did not come earlier. 🤔
Some years later I lost the NHS hearing aid. Again did not go because of money. After a year or so though I was ready to go and pay for the replacement so scheduled an appointment.
Went there and found out that the replacement is for FREE. 😅 But they did say next one I will need to pay for. Again though why did I not come earlier.

I’ve had hearing aids from the NHS, an independent practice and a big chain. There’s a big difference between the 3. Great video Mathew
