Dave Alvin’s music is the soundtrack of a cross country road trip down every dusty road, back alley, every broken heart in America 🇺🇸. His songs represent the forgotten and the hurt and still persevere. He’s the man that Johnny Cash wanted to be.
Dave is cool. Although he cut me short one time when I asked about reissues of The Blasters albums. He knew the question before I got it to ask. Must’ve been a prickly subject at the time. Otherwise he is always great with the fans.
I think it was the day that King of California came out, and I was away visiting my folks in Knoxville TN. That afternoon, my GF at the time called me out of the blue and said she had just heard Dave's new album reviewed on NPR, and that we had to have it. I swung a big u-turn to the record store there in town and had it within 15 mins. If you could wear out a CD, that thing would be gone now. (Side note--I stayed with her for 10 of the 12 years mainly because of her taste in music.) But Dave has so many classic albums, and what a damn band THIS IS. Wow!
It did make me cry. When the camera moved over to Flaco and his accordion...these beautiful guys are old. Dave had cancer during COVID. He's back on tour, but they are not going to be here much longer.
Dave Alvin , one of the best shows that I have ever seen, he was with The Guilty Women at The Folly Theater in Kansas City Missouri, unlike most of his contemporaries he played that same Fender that he is playing in this video, and the other players are some of the greatest musicians in the world, God Bless our Artists and Musicians and keep them safe
@@LosCenzontles I want to buy an LP with all of you on it! Now for a confession: I first discovered Los Lobos when reading the old magazine Rolling Stone (many years ago) and bought an LP. (this is before CD's were invented). Over the years I've since picked up every LP or CD I came across, and was never disappointed. Yet I think I like this new group even more. This band is high on my bucket list to see in person

mid-day summer dream. I arrive in Terlingua, TX late on a hot summer day, walk into the Starlite Cafe to this scene. Wouldn't be sure if I died and went to heaven or went to hell. Great song bt Robert Earl Keen
Strap them kids in Give 'em a little bit of vodka in a cherry coke We're going to Oklahoma to the family reunion for the first time in years Anybody else think this'd be the perfect segue?
Dave Alvin - the most under appreciated musician in America
I second that sentiment. He should be the Lifetime Poet Laureate of California.
Not by me tho.
@@GregoryLuce me either. Rock on Dave!
@@richstex4736 good call! He should be.

Dave Hildago and Dave Alvin... wow. Two American masters.
Flaco also
Exactly-don't forget Flaco!
I had the great fortune to see Dave Alvin open for Los Lobos at The Wiltern in L.A. NYE '87
Make that three
God bless America!!!

Man, you sum Dave Alvin's music so poeticly and succinctly! I took a screenshot!
@@SoCali_Surfer very nice comment! I believe you capture the flavor of this man very well. Thank you!
Damn ...wish there was a dvd of this..one hell of an evening..all those great musicians in one spot...wow
This. Very much this. So much talent...
My late wife Sally Jo Davis' favorite singer. She got to give him a hug back in the 90's. She said he was very kind.
Awe

Just saw Dave on his 25th Anniversary tour of King Of California..................still killing it!

Wow. Almost made me cry. What an amazing performance of Dave's best-known song. So magical to hear him singing with David Hildalgo. And Flaco!
I've always loved this song but I would have thought that Long White Cadillac and maybe Abilene might be better known.
It did make me cry. When the camera moved over to Flaco and his accordion...these beautiful guys are old. Dave had cancer during COVID. He's back on tour, but they are not going to be here much longer.

I’ve seen Dave, and Lobos, SO many times! EVERY show… amazing! Thanks to whoever caught this! ❤️
Thanks, Peter!
Wonderful. Thanks for posting.
This is a real gem... After this Andersonville, Dry River, Ashgrove...
What a wonderful version of this amazing song.
What a line up! I'd love to see these 3 live.
We don’t deserve to see such beauty and greatness !! I’m glad we snuck in here and saw it
Saw Los Lobos and Dave Alvin at the Wiltern Theater 12/31/87
Mix between the Blasters and Los Lobos..Friends forever..
What a find
Great video, tons of talent on that stage.
Looking at this video reminds me a of Thee Midnighters in East Los Angeles band whom broke down many musical barriers.
Not even on a stage...in someone's house! Imagine sitting on the porch in rocking chair experiencing that? No, I couldn't sit!
Wow! The words are just beautiful, and then you hand it to a group of masters who simply take it beyond any expectations. I want an album!!
Thank you!

I still can't believe just how lucky I am that I witnessed X performing this with Billy Zoom on guitar!
I’m trying to figure out how this video received eight down votes. Everything about this is fantastic!!!

I see joy.

This is the only time I’ve heard the lyrics.
yes, it's from "Ooh-La-la" by the Faces.
Flaco is the coolest
Long Live La Raza!

Flaco kills
I don't know Los Cenzontles; that looks a lot like Garth Brooks on the left...
Pretty darn fabulous, but a very strange painting in the background.
What do you call that, Southwestern zydeco?🤪🎶
Nobody like Dave Alvin. Nobody.
