Lyrics:
She's waiting for me
When I get home from work
Oh, but things just ain't the same
She turns out the lights
And cries in the dark
And she won't answer when I call her name
[Chorus]
On the stairs I smoke a
Cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shooting
Fireworks below
And hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July
She gives me a cheek
When I want her lips
Oh, but I don't have the strength to go
On the lost side of town
In a dark apartment
We gave up trying so long ago
[Chorus]
On the stairs I smoke a
Cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shooting
Fireworks below
And hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July
Whatever happened I, uh
Apologize
Dry your tears and, baby
Walk outside
It's the Fourth of July
[Chorus]
On the stairs I smoke a
Cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shooting
Fireworks below
And hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey baby, baby
Baby, take a walk outside
Hey, baby
Hey, baby
Hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey, baby, it's the Fourth of July (We forgot!)
We forgot it's the Fourth of July
Hey, babe!
Hey, babe!
Hey! - Видеоклипы
I'm here every Fourth of July, baby!
Yep!
I've seen X more times than I can recall. I saw them open for DEVO New Years Eve of 1980, and saw them a good number of times after that. I liked every show, excellent band. And hey baby, I'm writing this on July 4, 2024.
This song is bittersweet this 4th in 2024 but my tradition of listening to Dave Alvin's anthem continues ...
Los Angeles in the early 80s. We thought it could last forever.
It was something to behold though. Quite a time and place. Very sad how it went
Ok boomer
@BL-zi9wb yeah. Oh heck yeah. I bet you LOVE L.A. now, dontcha, hard kid.? Like the scent of pee and poop in the street and martial law do ya? Have fun.
I was thinking the same thing🎆🎶🎸

I listen to this song special for the 4th of July every year
So do I
Same.
Same
Me too
This song turns every day into the Fourth of July.
One of the greatest song ever! Written by Dave Alvin.
One of the best songs ever written by Dave Alvin
The 80's music made us believe in the future so many new bands and Artists came out in the 80's
X at the Whiskey way back when! Only guy in the crowd decked out like a rocker. Standing right in front of Billy Zoom, great freaking show!
The most quintessential song for the 4th of July....🎇🎤🎤🎸🎸🥁🔥💪👊
Every time I hear it, I tear up. It's so beautiful.
True yet any time of year hearing this song makes it the 4th of July.☮️🗽💜🇺🇸
Happy 4th, 2024
I remember walking around my neighborhood in 1988, I was in 10th grade and someone just broke up with me and it was the Fourth of July… Fast forward to tonight 2022 it’s the Fourth of July and I just found this song again!!!!!!
I only saw X one time. . in Atlanta as a long defunct club called the Harvest Moon. On that night, they did FIVE encores. I recall John saying. . "we knew that somewhere on the tour, we'd play EVERY song that we know. Tonight. .this was it.". Needless to say, that show rocked like few others. Music like this just isn't made anymore. An LA legendary band.
This Dave Alvin song is my all-time favorite vocal collaboration between John and Exene.
My favorite X song. Dave Alvin is a huge talent.
One of the Coolest songs of the 80s! 😍🎤
Happy 4th of July! 🎆🎉
X does a great job with this song!!!!!
If they ever make a movie about the band X they should have John Tibbles of the Stone Coyotes play the part of Joe Doe. You would swear that they were twins from different mothers. 💜X
So I’m a little late to The Sopranos party, but that show has introduced me to some great music. 👍
They actually had this in the Sapronos sound track for real?.John Doe is also a actor and has many rolls like in Law &Order. He was also was George Straights drummer friend in the movie Pure Country. He was originally from the Maryland state and moved to L.A. where he met Exzean and formed the band X. There are some videos about a roadie setting a couch on fire after a gig and other stuff. Imagine if you are a cop and pulling over a John Doe?😂
@@327JohnnySS that’s cool, I love music trivia!
Yes, the 2 songs by Shawn smith in the episode long term parking are awesome
@@fengle70, Thanks.I will definitely check that out.
I'm old. 73. Saw them on shrooms in the pit in San Francisco. We'd lift weights to get pumped up in our Italian tees. But my claim to fame is that i saw her in the pit at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. I said hi, and she punched me in the nuts.
Greatness
Happy 4th, fellow Gen Xers. 🖤
I bought "See How We Are" right off the cart before they even put it on the shelf. I loved the album -- still do.
I've seen you guys at least 5 times as either X or The Knitters..... Legends....🎤🎤🎸🎸🥁🔥💪👊
All I did was have one of those Firecracker popsicles and I HAD to hear this song.
I have a problem!!
Great song and my favorite X album
4th of July of 2024 🎉
Fourth of July again. Saw them at the Einstein a Go-Go Jacksonville Beach FLA when I was stationed there in the late 80's. Found out from a dude running down the barracks hallway hollering about it. Small venue on the beach. Great place to see this band.
First song I played yesterday, and pretty much every 4th of July for years. USAF Vet here (83-87) Thanks for serving.
@@davidscottthayer8078 Every year here also. There are a couple others that get fit in. Chicago - Saturday in the Park and Nirvana unplugged - Lake of Fire. X is always first! Thanks for your service as well.
Happy 4th of July-2023!
To you as well
2024
@@jamesmadore3234 Oh yeah, I'm here! Have a good one!
Happy 4th of July Los Angeles!
X was the absolute ruler of L.A. punk bands, though this song comes from a slightly later incarnation which was a lot more rockabilly. Fun fact: Exene was married - and had a kid - with Aragorn (Vigo Mortensen), many years before LOTR.
that time you did 4th of July with Billy on guitar.... July 5th, 2002 at The Hootenanny Fest in Mountain View, CA.... remains one of my top X memories, and I have many.
I really wish I could tell DJ Bonebrake what one small gesture, on his part, meant to me.
Loved this song back then, and it’s still great now. How this band never hit the big time is beyond me. Awesome stuff!!!
The most under appreciated punk band ever love this group x is still number 1 on my book should be up there with offspring and rancid and green day bitter sweet but great memories of yesterday year x rocks
Caught them at the John Anson Ford theater in June ‘88 then again a week later opening for Midnight Oil (Diesel & Dust) on July 2. Had been a fan for years at that point but I was blown AWAY by their incredible live performances. Raucous, riveting, and incredible 🔥🤟🏼😎💙🖤
I was at that 88 Anson Ford also. Los Lobos open?
I have always loved this song and the "Ain't Love Grand" album. I love all your albums, but I was going through a hard break-up and this album hit home. Can't wait to see you August 14th! Happy 4th!
4th Of July
Lots of videos about X and documentaries about them lately. I just found out right now that 4th of July was a cover by Dave Alvin.

Hey baby, it's the fourth of July!
Heeeyyy baby, it's the 4th of July! (again).
If you've ever had to end a failed relationship, you know what this song is about. The 4th of July is Independence Day. For what it's worth, I prefer the version by Dave Alvin -- it cuts a little closer to the bone.
damn that was awesome! I sure miss the whisky a go go days!
I still live on Love Street. ❤ This is good stuff, here, too, I'm rockin.
@@Diana1000Smiles Hey baby its the forth of july! Damn! just don't get better than that. had to revisit this again!
I was there! It was insane. This band created an energy I had never experienced before.
A necessary song on the 4th. Saw X last year, shame they didn't play this.
Another depresing Farce of July flys by, away from the revolutionaries I truly love/d. Sweet X please defin my sorrows best possible, as I remember when this annualy marked event still signaled a milestone fresh, beautiful, irreplacable, life changing, new Magick arrived !
Awesome song
My neighbors now know this song on the 4th !
This was the title song from their album before they disbanded. Billy had already departed, hence Dave Alvin stepping in to play lead guitar and contribute this incredible song.
Many, thanks! Nice to be here with you. 💙
I hope that Teri sees this. 💜. Such a great song. John Doe was also the drummer in the film Pure Country. ✌
🇺🇸🦅🦅
I saw them open for ZEVON when she was pregnant. 87
Happy 4th!
Robert Earl Keen does a great version of this song also.
Where is Billy Zoom?
👍👍👍🇺🇸🫡
Exene so pretty here
Sopranos brought me here
7/4/2022
Pump iron, eat shrooms, and head on over to the pit
Xene was ridiculously cute in this vid! I was like 11 probably, lol!
8 when Rodney buggered the Germs....lol...Punker since 7, and i am about 50!
Suddenly tempted to move to New Hampshire, tell everyone that I'm writing a book about Rocky Marciano - or Graziano - because you can't talk about one without talking about the other
soprano ni kórmaganimda bu qushiqni eshtmagan bólardim -o, yaxshiyam eshitdim
Love that song, I truly enjoy the SUGAR out of that song. Especially on the 4th of July 🎉😂
Punk my ass! This is rock and roll in its purest form!
Like number 420
Great song but .. where is Mr. ZOOM???
SiriusXM's First Wave Deep Tracks brought me here.
I never would have thought it Zoom's guitar, too twangy. Not that Twangy is bad....Great version!
If I was ever to sing karaoke
Happy 4th
Ditto. I definitely thought I'd be dead by now. ✌❤🎶
This recording is to be played every around the 4th of July time, just like the popular "White Christmas"are to be played every around Christmas time.
I'm always reminded of making love deep in the south side of San Antonio, with a beautiful latina lady, the windows open, July 4th, fire crackers going off below, REKs version playing on the stereo. Can't top that memory.
We used to cover this song in Oakland 1998
Jim Morrison level
This song was written by the always great and soulful Dave Alvin. He does it better ❤
Amazing sound. Too bad RUclips blocks my comments these days. Yup punk
