Lyrics:
Drive by my house late at night
You can see from the freeway above
No silhouette, but a light left on
Burning there for love
smoke is rising from the fire
Coming out my back door
I'm inside, sound asleep
Cigarette on the floor
Burning there for love
well I can still remember
A couple of years ago
When the smoke and flame called my name
It was a burning house of love
that rusty nail over our front door
Is where I hung our tears in the rain
I threw that horseshoe into the weeds
To see what luck can bring
cause you're in your bed, I'm in mine
On either side of town
I think I might take a ride
And burn your love house down
Like a burning house of love Видеоклипы
Still one of my favorite songs, AND videos ever. Great lyrics, great chorus, Great vocals, and when Billy plays that clean track over the beginning of the chorus..... it's PERFECT.
Thank goodness MTV played this video, as this was my introduction to X. They'd been around for years in LA, but I was in relative isolation in suburban Virginia, and had never heard of them before. I was instantly hooked! Not just because it was a great sound, but their style and this relatively low-budget video was proof that true greatness can shine and thrive without big-budget production.
Definitely one of the best LA bands
Considering that John Doe and Exene's marriage was about over at this point, and that this song was evidently part of John's attempt to deal with his ensuing divorce, it's impressive that they managed to make art out of their pain, not to speak of that kiss they shared in this video. Then again, X always was a bunch of good sports.
Still. love this song! Their voices sounded great together. It is timeless tune now!
So much amazing songs like this get faded in time.
Let's thank internet, for the opportunity of returning these.
Billy Zoom, the epitome of 😎
While they had a couple of hits in the 90's on the Modern/Alternative Rock chart, this was their only mainstream Top 40 hit in the US, peaking at #27 in 1985. MTV had this video in heavy rotation for a time during the summer of '85 and it was my introduction to this awesome band
Once in awhile a song I haven't heard in forever flows though my brain and I too remember MTV playing this a lot for awhile back in 1985...
This had all the makings of a 1980s college radio hit but X had become passé’ by the time this came out.
Omg - John Doe in this video. Swoooon.
He's such a great singer.
For those inquiring minds, the house is still there in Fontana California. It's off Sierra Ave south of the 15 freeway on the westside of the street. You can't miss it...
Is it burning? 🔥 🕯 🔥 🕯
Exene showing everyone how to rock the tiara. Take THAT Courtney Love.
She was in mighty fine shape in THIS video too.
Saw them open for Warren Zevon after this album. Talk about great shows
I went to see them open for Zevon on The See How We Are tour. They were great- we left before Zevon played. Went to see X
I love this track. This is the first time I've seen the video.
This was perhaps one of those male female punk vocalists band that really went good together in the 80's. Why did I overlooked it.
This is what Fun sounds like.

Temazo
SiriusXM's First Wave Deep Tracks brought me here.
2K Subscribers for X
What a Travesty
Tik tok brought me here after learning that this blue Victorian Alders House is haunted and still located at 4400 Sierra Ave Fontana CA.
I just realized.. I've never seen John Doe in the same room as legendary WWE wrestler Bob "Hardcore" Holly, but I'm sure there's a logical explanation. yeh.

Too many Rock'n'roll marriages end with getting on with your life
"Bad dreams" 1988 end of the credits
sounds like tom cruise is ready to take a flight in his fast fighter jet. the live whiskey version uses only the guitars.
Was that house in a movie? Beetlejuice or Psycho or something? Looks familiar.
I keep hearing "burning ASS of love"..
Exene always seemed to me to have had a late start in entertainment
Great seeing them in Downfall Pt 1
13 reasons why !
Well you can definitely tell that Michael Wagener produced this (and, no; in this case, it's not a compliment). 🙄🤦🏻♂️
Simply put, this is not X. X were not only Punk, they singlehandedly invented Cowpunk. (Lone Justice was the first major band X influenced.) X was NOT a mainstream Hard Rock band. This isn't a bad song, but it's certainly not a very good one and, again, it's certainly not X.
What I really don't understand is WHY, after the moderate success of their EXPLOSIVE Metal cover of The Troggs' "Wild Thing" - so charismatically led by frontwoman Exene Cervenka - would Elektra have X release as their FIRST single/video from their next album...a song sung totally by John Doe?!? 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Nothing against John Doe here, as he is certainly a decent serviceable singer, but normally that man comes at us with charisma and here...he comes at us with all the charisma of a wet shoelace. YOU CAN'T EVEN HEAR Exene Cervenka's vocals here, as they are completely buried in the mix, just like most things in this mess of a song. Again, this is not X, for those of us who actually love this band.
I understand that X really tried for stardom here, but this was certainly not the way to that goal. After _Ain't Love Grand_ predictably flopped, a disillusioned Billy Zoom left the band to be replaced by Dave Alvin of The Blasters, and...the band basically died from there. It was depressing to watch.
On a side-note, I need to finally see X live.
