Hi Mr Akinci, I am a technical writer student in Sweden. I just want you to know that I appreciate your channel and have recommended it to my student friends. Thank you for sharing!
Annie, I'm glad to hear that. Thank you very much for your kind recommendation. Best regards, Ugur
What's the SE term for what you're studying? Teknisk ... ?
It feels like I've searched the whole internet to find this exact video:) I'm writing business, not technical guides, but the principles stay the same. I'm off to buy the Udemy course!
First slide: HOW PAINFULLY TRUE!
Every manual I've ever read seems to have half the information missing. I think it's important to distinguish what a manual actually is, becasue there is a HUGE difference between a "reference list" and a "how to guide". Most manuals (especially computer software based) are the former and simply list the component parts and what they do, but not "how" to use them. There's often zero context for how things work together, and everything just seems like one big Appendix rather than a clear and details step by step guide.
I think it's why a lot of people don't bother with manuals, and also why online RUclips tutorials have become so popular in recent years, becasue it's someone actually showing you the steps in a visual way. A friend once said to me "You can't just hand someone a toolbox and then instantly expect them to be able to fix a car. You need to show them how to use the tools."
I couldn't agree with you more. The reason there are more reference manuals than how to guides is because the former is much cheaper and easier to produce.
thank you for making this video!!!

Thank you too!
Thank you kind sir!
Very welcome!
Brilliant video - thank you. Do you have any videos of formatting the headings in to contents smart pages?
Sorry. I didn't understand the question. Can you please explain?
@@TechWrite I am having issues with creating my main sections within a document - which should drive what I see in my contents page. There is a way of this being automatic - but I’m struggling to ad sub headings - indents to a maximum of 3 - as you suggest.
Teşekkürler hocam çok güzel özetlemişsiniz. İnşallah imkanım ve zamanım olursa udemy kursunuzu da almayı düşünüyorum.

I want to create LLCs and manuels to build a portfolio but I haven't had a job in technical writing so what can I do?
Kay, go to Upwork. Search and find a customer who wants an LLC or a user manual. Then create one and apply for the job. However, do NOT create something EXACTLY what the client wants. Create something similar but slightly different. For example, if the client wants "How to Program a VCR," you write a user guide for "How to Program a Microwave Oven." The idea is proving your tech writing skills in an area close to what the customer wants without giving away the store. You are welcomed to take a look at my technical writing course for beginners (which includes a limited-time only $50 off coupon). Best regards and Happy Holidays!
