FACTS. Its actually a challenging start.

Rome gets all the best events because the devs want Rome to expand like OTL.
I am currently doing an Antigonid Kingdom --> Macedon playthrough. About 100 years into the game, I allied with Rome. Even before they expanded out of the Italian Peninsula, they could supply me with over 40k troops, which were critical to me winning against Egypt and the Seleukid Empire. I made sure to vassal feed to remain under 500 territories. Soon, I will be able to attack Maurya to conquer the last 2 territories needed to form the Argead Empire.
Rome also seems to be prone to rebellions, but they always manage to win. Being allied to them, I get called into war whenever this happens. Since Rome loves building cities, I can always make a lot of money by sacking the cities of rebelling nations, even if I don't actually manage to gain land for myself or my allies.

@@perseusjackson3637 Tbh I always do this in Total war Rome 2. Except rome there is retarded, I legit have an entire spartan army and navy help them win their wars, and they still can't pull through. I also just continue to conquer Alexanders empire. Hoping that towards the end, theres a massive showdown between Sparta and Rome. I guess I can try to do that in Imperator. They play a custom battle of Rome 2 for to play the simulated battles of Imperator.

  • @SenipLuff

Aksum is my fave tbh, I did a Jewish aksum run once where I conquered everything south of Egypt. Sadly Egypt had conquered most of the diadochi and was twice as strong and draining all my resources just to fend him off every time he attacked, so I had this really good looking nation kind of chilling under Egypt.

My favorite country to play recently has been the Gallic tribe of Parisia. In the grand scheme of things they are pretty weak, but have the advantage of starting with the city of Lutetia, some good land for playing tall, and at the crossroads of 3 regions meaning you can get a lot of levies early on

I just started playing the game about a week ago, I’ve really enjoyed Sparta (it’s a very satisfying challenge) and Osismia (They have a great levy composition, have safe defensive positioning, and can form Armorica very early for a better government form, oh, and they can easily abandon gaul and just go to Brittania.)

Byblos was my favourite. Taking advantage of the diadochi wars, starting as Byblos (one of the 3 phoenician cities, but as byblos you have a unique trait) with some careful maneuvring you can take occupy north and south phoenicia in the opening war, take the 2 other phoenician cities, and form phoenicia. My second favorite was Sarmatia, and conquering the Bosporus and turning into my main region.

I've only played the Bosporan Kingdom out of these, but it was a blast. A tip for those playing it as a beginner (which I really recommend): you can build forts on all the major river crossings between the Crimea and the Danube and make your realm pretty much impenetrable to outside powers (Thrace survived and really enjoyed trying to invade me in my game).

  • @MarkVrem

I think the most interesting part of Kush would be conquering them as India going thru Axum and up into Egypt the soft underbelly of the Roman Empire. Skipping all the Macedon drama. On the other hand haven't played the game in a while not sure Naval and diplomatic capabilities are capable of that.

I think that, in Gaul, an argument could be made for Biturigia. Indeed, "Biturigia" means "kings of the world". Moreover, there is an incredible French book series called "The Kings of the World", by Jean-Philippe Jaworski, set in ancient Gaul (which is very unique) . The book series is Amazingly well made, and just playing the kings of the world is a good boost to your ego.
Sadly, it would seem there is no english Translation, so it might be a impossible to read if you're not familiar with French. A shame, honestly, cuz the book series is insane. Though, if you can familiarize yourself with Bellovesos (main character, legendary founder of Milan, who apparently went through the Alps), it's fine.
