@@danisstoned5025 Also, can you give a buildings guide please? :) Now that research is locked to 125% not 300% like it was before and you just cant spam libraries
Your welcome KyoKyo :) Sure, I have an economy guide in the works, hopefully it should be ready in about week, currently preparing to take a break for a week, these last couple of weeks have been constant content creation :)
Thank you! I just purchased this game and having to learn all of it. Your videos are extremely helpful! I hope that you continue to explain the inner workings of this complex game to understand and get the most out of it!
Mate, before this video I really couldn't get my head around the battles. This makes a lot of sense, thanks. When your army is made up of lots of separate levies, how do you make sure they all have the same tactic when there is no way to merge the army into one? Same goes for setting the flank size. Looking forward to more academy videos (would love to see one on Civilisation level and Centralisation)!
Unfortunately you have to set the levies up one by one, tedious I know. Will do buddy, I am on holiday at the moment, but one I get back then I have a few more planned 😊
I tought you would talk about terrain buffs, the new Gates mechanic... but maybe you are waiting to discuss this in another video (with cohort types etc, like a Land Battle 2.0 Tutorial). Anyway I enjoyed the guide and I'm sure new rome imperator players loved it too.
That is all for another video my friend. I couldn't fit everything in so I had to cut some things out that I will fit into another video. The gates I plan to pair with the forts attrition and supply limite guide :)
Hey Jimmy, Well, that would take a while to do so, and in order to explain everything clearly, I would have to do a video on it, but I will try to breifly explain it to you. So in this left hand box, you will find all your army's information. You can see the number of troops and the type. You can also set your primary, secondary and flanking cohorts. You also set your army tactics in this screen (symbolized by the animal icon). You can also see who is in command. Again, it would take a video on it's own to explain everything and do it all justice, so if I have time, I will try to get one done in the future :)
One thing I don't get is the maneuver stat. I guess it represents the mobility of a unit on the battlefield, but once one side has a significant numerical advantage, it shouldn't really come down to that maneuver number, right? It's like your light infantry or light cav cohorts 4, 5 positions away from the nearest enemy cohort just chill while your heavy infantry is fighting off the enemy by themselves, getting damage and reinforced. In a real battle, those flanking cohorts would've not just flanked but hit the enemy from the rear ensuring swift victory. Do you think Paradox don't model it like that because that might too volatile maybe?
It would snowball. The first one who seize the advantage will probably get a landslide victory pretty soon. But yeah, you are absolutely right about the flanking turn into an encirclement. I'll make a quick mod and see how it goes.
Maybe Wave. I think that if the allowed encirclement and attacks from the rear, as much sense as it makes, would make the army with the most units win pretty much every time.
Question though, what do you do if you lose a major battle in the beginning of the game and you barely have enough forces to continue the war. Happens to me too often in paradox games and I end up quitting out of frustration. Do you just replenish your army and fight again? How do you specifically carry-on?
1. Max military spending for highest morale 2. Avoid a fight you can't win, if you're the aggressor it's easier to just gobble up smaller nations first preferably of your culture ->instantly more levies 3. Prior to declaring make sure your army has 100 morale (spending) 4. If enemy capital is clos to your border just rush into it and you will stack wipe their army in early game if lucky. They have no morale at start. 5. If you fail you can always save-scum, everybody does it in paradox games
Wow. Played I:R since launch and never get the system behind the battles until now! Realy good explanation. Thank you man! Do you have plans to make a "pops & culture" tutorial? Since the update there are a view changes.
GOD is right. Levy can only be raised from pops that are of an integrated culture. The size of the levy depends on the number of integrated pops, and the type of levies on the culture of the integrated pops.
What's explained here is already what's going to win or lose the battle. Tactics are just a cherry on top. But basically, you see different tactics apply different benefits to different unit types - so choose the one that your army is heavy on, or that you think will do the most damage in order to boost that damage. And secondly, a bonus or penalty vs the enemy tactic.
How would I beat an army that is larger and has higher moral and discipline I’m Thrace fighting Rome and I have a ton of feudatories, but Rome just throws endless legions at me even though I’m richer and have more manpower.
I would say merc up my friend. Hire as many mercenaries as you can. Also increase your soldiers pay in the economy tab, is increases morale by 10%. Try to also stockpile Military Experience, the more you have, the morale morale your soldiers will get.
Would you be interested in making a comprehensive tutorial of the game for 2.0? It's a little confusing watching a 2.0 change log tutorial along with old tutorial videos. Just wondering if it would be alright if you made a complete tutorial for all mechanics in the game for players getting into it with the new update.
Because I set my flank size to 5 and I only have 5 light cavalry units that I set for the flank. Since I have set the flank size to five, the game will automatically allocate five slots on the flank for units. Since I do not have enough cavalry, then the game took some of my other units to make up the five. If I had set my flank size to two, then you would only have seen light cavalry on the flanks because the game would have allocated two slots on the flanks for units. Since I had 5 cavalry units I had enough to cover for 2 flanking units each side and you would've seen only cavalry on the flanks.
Finally a really good guide for Land battles!
Greetings form italy! (In particulal , the settled tribe of Lucania in Magna Grecia )

This was perfect - very helpful. The Imperator battle system makes sense, it's good to see it laid out clearly.

Imperator Rome's Campaign mechanics combined with Total Wars Battles ... that'd be the Rome game to end all Rome games XC

Loving all these Imperator Rome Videos! Thank you Dan!

Really excellent explanation. I have 300 hours in this game but I’m not great at digging into the details, to my detriment. This will really help!
Thanks dude, and your welcome. Always happy to help.

How about Causus Belli and Diplomacy? Those sound like the most exciting part of the game.

Yep I do indeed have plans to make a pops and culture guide. Maybe sometime next week.
@@danisstoned5025 yees. Would be awesome
Can you explain how to get more levy? It seems like I can't see how much soldier the enemy has anymore before declaring war.
levy is mostly based on province pop. their culture decides levy types. imperator wiki have a list of levy % on culture page.
GOD is right. Levy can only be raised from pops that are of an integrated culture. The size of the levy depends on the number of integrated pops, and the type of levies on the culture of the integrated pops.
Many thanks for your explanation. However, I would like to have an overview of how to use the tactics at its best.
Maybe for a next tuto...
Yep, can do a video on tactics. I am on holiday at the moment so will work on loads of stuff when I get back.
What's explained here is already what's going to win or lose the battle. Tactics are just a cherry on top. Is this still the case with Imperator? Can only use 3 unit types?

Hi Nep Nep. Yes sure, I do plan on updating all the guides and doing a new tutorial campaign as soon as I get back from holiday 😊
playing as Ivernia a Tribe how do I colonise the free lands adjacent?
Ave!!!
Why does the game put some light infantry on the falnks when it would be better to put your flankers all the way on the flank??
Because I set my flank size to 5 and I only have 5 light cavalry units that I set for the flank. Since I have set the flank size to five, the game will automatically allocate five slots on the flank for units. Since I do not have enough cavalry, then the game took some of my other units to make up the five.
If I had set my flank size to two, then you would only have seen light cavalry on the flanks because the game would have allocated two slots on the flanks for units. Since I had 5 cavalry units I had enough to cover for 2 flanking units each side and you would've seen only cavalry on the flanks.
lol and all this time I was just throwing stuff into a stack and marching towards the enemy
i was hoping the game wasnt just outnumbering your enemys but it turns out it is
I was expecting this game to have like Rome 2 battles, I am very sad now.
Dan come back!
so weird how a battle lasts over a month in this game. Probably the reason why it doesn't present the lenght of the battle in the victory screen lel
THATS IT ??? campaign map battles ???
They should bring the tactics combat phases from CK2, skirmish, battle, pursuit. Or a new dynamic system.
Good video, but instead of explaining flanking for 10min you could have explained about battle tactics (moose, rabbit etc.) and how to use them.
I plan on doing a guide to troop composition soon and with it I shall talk about tactics.
This game looks great but it should have had a tactical field like rome total war.
Yeah this game isnt for me. Why do Paradox games have to be so overly complex?
Are you serious about the need to explain land battles? This game is terrible, it does not tell you how to play it.
It is a rite of passage for all paradox games. Nothing is really explained and up to the player to figure out.
