A walkthrough of the ZX Spectrum game, Treasure Island. From the recording originally sent to www.rzxarchive.co.uk/ #ZXSpectrum #RetroGaming #Walkthrough
The games that came with the +2 may have been below par, but they certainly evoke the strongest memories. This was one of the better ones of the bunch.
Ah, Treaure Island… this was basically my "first game" - it was the best out of the 10 free games that came bundled with my Dixons Spectrum +2 back in 1986 :-) I must have spent a lot of time playing this game as I remember drawing out a map for it. Frankly the game is pretty quirky and odd in places - like the weird mini-games at the start (I used to find 0:16 a bit scary as I thought they were monsters with puckered mouths!). And it's funny how the pirates still have their swords, even after throwing them at you! And then, what happens after you get the treasure (at 11:11) is totally bizarre - you leave "images" of yourself on every screen! So weird. Then of course… the game kind of crashes when you win (13:10)! Nevertheless, I would say the game still holds up OK for its age and seems fairly fast and playable. However, it pales in comparison when you look at the similar (but vastly superior) _Robin of the Wood_ which came out just the year after.
Hi Lee Bee, quick question for you: I feel like we may have had the same Spectrum bundle as a kid - can you remember what other games were included? I can only seem to remember this and Oh Mummy, but I'm sure there were around 10.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum Punchy, Disco Dan, Oh Mummy, Alien Destroyer, Crazy Golf, Treasure Island. All bundled with the Grey Model Spectrum +2 and I think all of them were Mr.Micro games :) (Just remember not to load them in 128k mode, or you got the words 'PLAY' and 'SPECTRUM' plastered all over the screen!)
@@RoseTintedSpectrum The games were: Mr Micro software: 1. Treasure Island (probably the best game of the lot, I even remember drawing a map of it) 2. Punchy (the speech samples were terrifying to me as a child) 3. Crazy Golf ("poor" is an understatement) Gem Software: 4. Oh Mummy (ugly but moderately playable - the 2nd best game of the lot) 5. Disco Dan (somewhat disturbing and sinister) Tynesoft: 6. Ian Botham's Test Match (I played it once and switched it off quickly) 7. Superfile (database program that seems a little dated, now that we have Windows 95) 8. Witchfiend (pretty dull and brief adventure game) 9. Odd Job Eddie (an actual platform game, but I never liked it) Sinclair Research Ltd: 10. Alien Destroyer (warning: flickering may induce an epileptic fit.)
@@alisonbewick5550 yes yes yes!! how you remember that. i was remember when my mom buy me spectrum plastrum 2 i took 6 free games. back in 1986. and i just remember only this one i saw. wont remember the others titles. but i see you remember them well enough. i still have those huge boxs with the original games i buy!! i believe i still have batman!!!
I'd forgotten this (& most of my Spectrum games!) - this channel triggers long distant memories! Nice of most of the pirates to hand you their cutlasses to kill them with! Think I may have beaten it once, but can't remember. I'll have to dig out my old Spectrum & all the games I had with it to see if they are all on here!
omg!! omg!!! zx spcctrum plastrum 2 was my 1 computer. and i took 6 original games. and treasure island was one of them. i 30 years behind now!!! if we talk about nostalgia. this is the perfect example.
Nice to see how it's done and how it ends. I was kinda hoping for a couple of levels after this maze one. Definitely takes logic and a good memory to complete. I'm replaying this on my RasPi right now but didn't have the patience to finish it myself. Who knew you'd have to run back to near the beginning where that ship is. I thought you'd maybe need to go in that other gap in the sand on the far right guarded by a pirate. Definitely a quirky game but one I have great memories of by Mr Micro 🕹🐳🦀☠💎🍺⚓🌊🏝
I as shite at this game! I reset the spectrum and played crazy golf. It was Christmas, I only had the free games. After that when I got new games I never played the free games again. I liked oh mummy.
@@Wankshaftsbury I loved Chucky egg on the BBC computer , we used to play it at school! I didn't know back then you could get it on the Spectrum. I got mine Christmas 88 , I was 11 I didn't get new game's until January my first game I bought was Aliens. I didn't know how to play it though. My second game was Shanghai warriors , I bought it as I couldn't afford double dragon it being £10.
I ended up accidentally finding a glitch on the level where you had to jump over the barrels if you paused and unpaused the game over and over very quickly it skipped you passed it and put you on the island… but that’s where I got stuck and never figured out what to do..
The pirates throw the knife if you get too close. So you have to run up to them and then run away so it don't hit you, and you can then pick it up. To throw the knife yourself, you have to run in the direction you want to throw it and then stop. From what I remember the cheese is for energy, but I haven't played it since about 1986. 🤣😂
I remember this game being fairly easy apart from the "pirate of death" at 4:15 - The very lightest of touches required to face down whilst not walking into him. Many many lives lost on that asshole
там глюк в игре или что? Чё в конце спрайт копируется? не удаляется. И ваще чё главный герой моргает.Такое чувство, что при прорисовке следующего кадра анимации предыдущий стирается, а не замещается сразу новым. Типа лишний кадр
+Penetrator4251 Ah! this is not a glitch, it is the ghost of the treasure, if you pick up a sword the ghost will turn blue and block your exit, you have to kill all the enemy first before you pick up the treasure, I don't remember but the ghost may only come if you also pick up the skeleton first :-) Ах! это не глюк, это призрак сокровище, если вы забрать меч призрак станет синим и заблокировать Ваш выход, вы должны убить всех врагов, прежде чем вы забрать клад, не помню но призрак может прийти только если вы также подобрать скелет первый :-)
One of the very first games I ever fell in love with.
Memories :')

Bloody loved this game.I rem finally compketing it.I got lost so many times when the final pirate chases ya haha
I had this as a kid and found it rock hard lol
I could never get past those pirates throwing swords
This was once my favourite game on my old Spectrum, along with Kronos. I still have the cassette somewhere.
Loved this game growing up.
Completed this in the 80s first computer after my Atari 2600 loved it 😉
The first game on Speccy I won. It seems score was less then 70%
At first it looked bad, but it looks kinda fun after looking at it
Dizzy games were the best.
that game over font though!
Fun little game to play :-)
I want to play this again so bad

You can skip the boat section with the grabby hands by pausing and unpausing multiple times in a row
Grabby hands were nightmare for a 8 year old this guy must is a pro makes it look easy lol
Spent so many hours to get away from Blind Pews
I never got past the second screen 😂

how do you know if they're gonna throw the knife or not?
what are cheese, skeletons etc for?
