The production team wore shorts that read: "Atlantis, less singing, more explosions." Lol!
Michael Bay Makes A Musical?
One of my all time favorite films not just animated and with the Best Disney princess and the first one that became a queen! Take that Elsa!
Now here are the facts to share:
-This was basically Disney’s first foray into an action adventure animated film,
-The directors were Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise who both directed Beauty and the Beast along with The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
-all of the dialogue by Don Novello who voiced Viinny was improvised even though he had his lines in front of him.
-the Atlantean language in the film was created specifically for this film by the same man who created the Klingon language for Star Trek,
-if the third act seemed rushed it is because I learned that during the making of the film the production team ran out of money so they had to do with what they had.
- jim varney who voiced Cookie died before the film was released and people will know him best for his Ernest films and the voice of Slinky Dog in the first 2 toy story films.
This was a film that definitely should have had a 15 to 20 extra minutes to help flesh things out!
1. I wish we'd seen more fantasy elements in the film.
2. I wish desperately that this had become a musical.
3. I do wish Kida and Milo joined the Disney Prince/princess pantheon, but since the film wasn't considered enough of a success, I get it.
(I do love Frozen, though, btw).
Also the only Disney movie where the main couple does not kiss
One of my favorite movies of all time even if the end was a bit rushed. I miss animated movies in this similar art style.
@@killzone014 I don't really see how the ending was rushed.
Healing abilities and Paralyzing her enemies with crystallize venom!
I agree! Kita might be the strongest Disney Princess of all time.
Even stronger than Mulan and Elsa
Hell yes. This and Treasure Planet were such big things to me in my childhood. Wish they made more movies like this.
Also this movie had some of the coolest fuckin toys ever I had the whole set of the ships and the Leviathan.
Same!! I was in love with both and I am always shocked when people haven’t seen them because they are ICONIC
Blockbuster+Friday night = renting Atlantis on video for the 10th time in a row
These two films are part of my Disney Trifecta. Them and Brother Bear round out my childhood quite nicely.
92 baby so for sure I feel that
Fun fact: Helga, the blonde that helps Rourke, was animated in Japan, separately from the rest of the characters, so you might notice that her animation is smoother compared to the other characters. I just thought it was interesting.
She was animated in France, not Japan.
No wonDer I love her
@@SergioLeRoux then again, she was animated by an japanese female anime artist
Japan: “Let’s draw our human characters with the smoothest most aesthetically pleasing features and movements we can!”
America: “Let’s draw our human characters to resemble the most horrifying monstrosities to ever exist.”
@@BJ52091 can you hop off japan's schlong for 3 seconds
Fun fact: The comic book artist, Mike Mignola, helped come up with these character designs, and that’s why they’re so unique to the designs of other Disney movies.
Great video by the way!
I was thinking that Disney was copying an anime
I definitely credit this movie for getting me into Mike Mignola - that and diesel punk
With this and Treasure Planet, I definitely thought even as a child that Disney were trying either anime of comic designs but ngl I freaking loved it.
I KNEW THOSE DESIGNS SEEMED FAMILIAR! I always felt like these guys wouldn't look out of place in a hellboy comic
Atlantis The Lost Empire!!!!!!!!! A VERY UNDERRATED DISNEY MOVIE AND PERSONALLY MY FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE!!!!!!
For me, it's right up there with Treasure Planet
AND THAT'S WHERE IT ENDED! NO SUCH THING AS ATLANTIS 2! NOPE!
"i thought it was decent animation" he says, as he repeated "that looks so cool!" like 30 times 😆
The fact that the crystal's light blinded the king because he refused to look away from his wife in her last moments-
oh my god i've never thought about that!! i always assumed it was his old age, but you must be right, that's amazing writing
Omg what????? I've been watching this movie atleast once a year since I was 2. That's such an amazing detail!
It annoys me to no end how Kida doesn’t count as an official Disney Princess. She’s simply a princess that Disney created and that’s it. All because Atlantis didn’t make much in the box office, checked every point but the money one 😒
What does it matter? Mulan is apparently considered a Disney princess, despite not even being a princess, so obviously that "list" is nonsensical anyway. Do some people really NEED every female Disney character to be referred to as a "Disney princess" for some reason? If so, why?
The Disney princess line is mostly for merch, so it makes sense. But I personally consider her a Disney princess lol
And of course Eliwony as well
@@VelkanAngels because I’d love to see her at the parks and get the recognition that she deserves. Sorry ig for somehow making you annoyed because I wanted her to be a Disney Princess 😐
I'm not sure why people forget that she was the first of the DP lineup to become queen.
It bothers me too because no one knows who she is. Also, if Mulan gets to be a princess, Esmerelda should be one too. Kida could fight and had a body count, while Esmerelda led a revolution for justice for her people while evading the guards and dealing with a creep who was obsessed with her.
"Paperclips. Big ones."
Vinnie is the GOAT.
"You are a scholar, are you not? Judging from your diminished physique and large forehead..."
Actually, nope, changed my mind - Cree Summer is the GOAT.
"And topped with a smidge of oregano. You can't make a bomb without oregano. Makes a very nice *boom.*"
"...next time, chili powder." XD
For another underrated animation I would recommend Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
The villain alone makes the movie worth a watch :3
I second that, villain in "Sinbad" is pretty awesome :D
The music that plays when kida approaches the crystal in the cave always makes me tear up. It's so ethereal and majestic.
My favorite part
My favorite animation was when kida turned into human crystal form and she had her own sphere of protection so she wasn't even walking on the water and the water that splashed her just ran down her invisible force field. Such good water animation from all spherical angles
YES!! I love this movie! It has action, sci-fi, comedy, and fantasy elements rolled into one cult classic of a Disney movie! It has elements of Indiana Jones and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as well. Hard to believe its 20 years old, and still holds up. This was also Jim Varney's last film as an actor whom sadly passed away from lung cancer on February 10, 2000.
and a hint of innocent romance
My great uncle met Jim a couple of times, became somewhat friends as they grew up pretty close to each other. His wife at the time was a big fan and he surprised her one night by visiting their home, and when he came in, he stuck his head around the corner and said “Hey, Vern!” Or something like that. I wish I could have met him, but I was quite young at the time. I’ll never forget that story though.
I love this film for its humor, characters, and themes that can easily be related to the real world. I once heard a guy say the bad guy in the film was too “mustache twirling” and generic and it kinda made me laugh cuz those types of ppl existed and still do exist to this day.
Atlantis is just such an interesting movie that, alongside Treasure Planet, deserves more love
greed is one f the main sources o evil in our modern world so it bugs me when people claim that doing something for the money is cliche and or not exotic enough for villain motivations when it’s the main source of villainy and crime in our reality.
I would argue a villain like Rourke makes the most sense for this kind of “finding a lost civilization” story. His plan to pillage the Atlanteans is no different from what the conquistadors did in the Americas.
the scene where milo and kira where climbing up the rock and the stone was floating up, was Disney's most difficult scene to animate to date.
Dang…
Vinny's character is played by comedian Don Novello and about 70% of his dialogue was improvised. The staff had written jokes for him but most of the time he would change the joke between takes or say something that got the story point across but in a much funnier way than the somewhat serious dialogue he was given. It makes his character so much more memorable and realistic.
I have literally one and only one issue with this movie; the clumsy way Milo is familiarized with Kida's nickname.
Her full name is Kidagakash, and it isn't even hard to pronounce. It's 4 syllables.
You're telling me LINGUIST Milo, who's been studying languages all his life, is so phonetically challenged he can't pronounce a name he literally just heard her say?
"My name is Kidagakash. But you can call me Kida."
"Kida. Okay."
There, done
Have you tried to pronounce it foreign name that you've never actually heard before, I have it ain't easy. Even for linguist
Probably for the convenience of children to remember while watching
@@xdiaxan most likely
My uncle has a degree in linguistics and despite fluently speaking 3 languages he often still needs to see how a word is written phonetically to understand how it's pronounced. This may stem from his birth language being Spanish in which every letter ALMOST ALWAYS makes exactly one sound. Some people simply can't copy by ear.
@@generalx13 That's fair, but I'll make my point more focused;
1 - Milo is already fluent in Atlantian, having already carried a conversation with Kida earlier on
2 - Milo already has access to the phonetics of the Atlantean language from passages in the Sheppard's Journal
3 - Milo is NEVER shown to struggle with the language in any other instance in the film
I can understand that a lot of people say it's done so that kids can become familiarized with Kida's nickname, but this is a moot point because her father already refers to her as Kida and has mentioned her by name in an earlier scene
Atlantis, Treasure Planet, and Titan AE were like, the trinity of exploration animated movies that came out in the early 2000s.
Don’t forget The Road To El Dorado as well!
Another great early usage of 3D/2D is The Road to El Dorado. And it's amazing movie too
Yep
The 3D for Atlantis and all the world design is AMAZING. I love all the characters especially how they make them honestly in it for the money without being horrible people
The ending pan-out from the city, is bloody amazing. Can you imagine the work and money that went into just that one shot?
My opinion about Atlantis: it was too ahead for its time
Had it been released some years later, it would have been a master success
So the story of Atlantis was told in two dialogues, Timeas and Criteas, by Plato. It was a story handed down through his family and it was originally told to a guy named Solon, who in 600 BC went on a 10 year exile due to political pressure, by a priest in Egypt. When Solon asked when this happened, when Atlantis sank beneath the waves, the priest said bluntly "9000 years ago". So Solon lived 600 BC, that's 2600 years ago. Then add 9000 years to that and you have 11,600 years ago that this happened, according to the priest.
It just so happens to coincide precisely with an event called Meltwater pulse 1b, when sea levels rose by hundreds of feet.
So if Plato and Solon and the egyptian priest made it all up as some people would suggest then they were astonishingly accurate and knowledgeable with 20th century scientific information.
Actually, MP1B only rose sea levels by around 15 - 20m over a period of approximately 300 years according to the latest research, so it's not hundreds of feet (Source - Am geoscientist who did research on large-scale melt events in the past 100,000 years). That being said, it's still quite enough to have led to the destruction of any coastal settlements in flatter regions.
However, when it comes to Plato and the legend of Atlantis, there is now quite convincing evidence that the city referred to was in fact on the volcanic island of Santorini, off the coast of Greece, which erupted in roughly 1650BC. The details in Plato's accounts describing frescos, the patterns on the walls of the buildings in the city, as well as of it disappearing beneath the waves and a foam preventing ships from returning there, are all consistent with this eruption. The island was virtually obliterated in the center, the sea encroached, and there would have been a floating layer of basalt on the surface for miles which would have made sailing there impossible for years.
Recent discoveries on the outskirts of the island, under volcanic deposits, show a town of significant size, as well as ruins, mosaics, and artefacts displaying all the hallmarks of significant wealth. Ancient texts name the region as a center of Mediterranean commerce at the time, and even detail the destruction of a powerful trading partner and the impact its loss had across the region on the flow of goods.
It is an excellent fit for the legendary origin of Atlantis.

I don't recall Santorini being outside the Pillars Of Hercules.
This movie was damn ahead of it's time. Great story, performances, animation effects (visual & audio). I loved this movie as a kid. Adore it more as an adult.
I love this movie so much! Everything about it is stunning and I'm glad more people are starting to watch it. It's truly an underrated hidden gem.
Also, Kida is a beautiful princess and she deserves more recognition!
The final shot took over a hundred pages to make and was one of the most expensive shots they ever made.
Dude this was SUCH an iconic kids movie for me. My brother and I literally watched this movie at a dollar theater 10 times because we loved it so much. We were 7 or 8 I think? Looking back I did not realize how many people died but I just loved EVERYTHING about it.
Omg, yes! Atlantis: The Lost Empire was my childhood! I watched it so many times on vhs. Kida is still ones of my favorite Disney princesses, it's a shame that this movie isn't talked about more.
according to critics, this movie suffers from a lack of character development, and the story seems rushed. Also, this film has been accused of being a Stargate knock off.
I took my little sister to see this in the theater and it instantly became one of our favorite animated movies.
Interesting thing i heard about this film- when Rourke goes down below the surface to where the crystal is located, it turns red cause it senses danger. The crystal saw Rourke as a threat which is why is took Kida to protect itself
When this movie was in the theaters, I recall that McDonald's (or some such company) had a big TV campaign pushing the movie, done in the "Atlantean language." I later read that this movie tanked at the box office, and quickly faded away. I have seen the movie, and I came away (sorta) amazed at the level of time and artistry spent on this animated feature. In "Northern Exposure" French: "pas mal."
the movie tanked cause everything felt rushed storywise.
Oh Atlantis, the movie that single handedly convinced me to dedicate my whole life to animated movies (and pretty ladies- dear god Kida and Sinclair really raised a whole generation of lesbians by merely existing bahahah). The breathtaking score, gorgeous artstyle and stunning animation would already be enough to rank it among one of the greatest Disney movies and yet we also get this wonderful cast of characters, surprisingly mature storyline tackling some complex debates (not that colonisation should be one lmao but hey it's 2021 and European museums still haven't given any of their stolen assets back to the communities they took it from so,, we still got a long way to go), and these iconic scenes that make for a unique viewing experience, such a gem!!!! These animated movies reactions are my favourite from you guys, it's just so great to hear other people geek out about animation techniques and truly appreciate the masterful job that was done on each and every one of these movies !
I don’t think it’s any coincidence I love this one so much when directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale also directed my other favorite Disney movies (Beauty and the Beast and Hunchback). Their partnership is just dynamite! Atlantis has greater flaws in being a little rough around the edges but still, such vision! I think this one’s a grand old time, and for me much better than Treasure Planet, what it’s often compared to and against.
This is one of my all time favorite films growing up, and it truly is a forgotten classic.
I love watching reactions to this underrated gem.
I highly recommend Pinocchio from 1940!
I am SO happy you guys did this one! I have always loved Atlantis. Michael J Fox is one of my favorite actors and especially as a kid when I knew him as Marty McFly and Stuart Little. The animation on this movie is absolutely incredible and unique and just gorgeous. Kida is a disney princess. Literally..and she never gets included with the other princesses. Rude lol
I feel like everyone forgets about this one. But it’s so good!
Fun fact: the same person who came up with the Atlantean language for this movie also invented the Klingon language for Star Trek.
This was always one of my absolute favorites, I still adore this movie. It’s so inventive and being in another world is so interesting. Personally will always be in my top Disney movies
If you two have not seen it, Prince of Egypt is one of my all time favorites animated films ever.
I'm still waiting for Tokyo Disney Sea to make or modify an area that references this film. Gutted they have not yet
I know I’m almost a year late to this comment but if you’re waiting for that you’ll be waiting forever. Prince of Egypt was made by DreamWorks, not Disney. You are right though, it’s an amazing film!
@@icatfishedyourdad2767 I meant for Atlantis, not Prince of Egypt :3 I did not make that clear in the comment though so I understand why you felt you needed to correct me!
I know it’s been a while since you’ve done this, but I wanted to let you know there was GOING to be an Atlantis TV show, where they go about dealing with other magical things on earth! The three episodes they did produce was combined into the “sequel” and individually theyre so fun. My storyboarding teacher actually worked on it, I made him tear up when I brought it up. He was so excited for the project, and Mike Mignola used to fax them monster designs every week! My favorite of the three episodes is the one where they deal with these Native American sand coyotes, that only want the stolen pottery to be returned to its rightful place! It’s like, actually really cool. Like reverse Indians Jones. Check it out if you have the time!
Cast:
Michael J Fox as Milo
James Garner as Rourke
Cree Summer as Kida
Leonard Nimoy as The Atlantean King
Phil Morris as Sweet
Jim Varney as Cookie
Claudia Christian as Sinclair
Jacqueline Orbrados as Audrey
John Mahoney as Whitmore
Florence Stanley as Packard.
Cree has voiced so many great characters!
I had no idea that was Claudia Christian as Sinclair! Fans of Babylon 5 will have no trouble knowing who she is.
Vinny is one of if not my favorite side characters in any Disney movie.
Every single time I watch this movie I fucking die laughing because of him. The other characters are good too but Vinny is the MVP of this movie.
This is most certainly an unappreciated classic.
this movie is one of those "one of a kind" stories.
One of my all-time favorite animated films! So glad to see more people discover this gem.
If you liked "Treasure Planet" I recommend you watch "Sinbad, Legend of the seven seas" it has kind of the same vibe. Also, I would like to hear your opinion about the animation of the goddess of chaos Eris in the movie - she's so awesome 😍
This movie was criminally underrated when it came out. Its a freakin gem haha
a cool tidbit, the coelacanths in the tank behind mr. whitmore in the beginning are a hint as to all the stuff he's found that were thought to not exist, as while *we* in the real world know that they are not extinct after all, in the timeline of the film, they had not been rediscovered alive yet!
Atlantis and treasure planet are probably the most underrated Disney animated movies
Btw, I think the creators of "Treasure Planet" were making a second part to it but then it was cancelled by Disney because it didn't do so well at the box office. Because sadly, Disney decided to release it at the time the first Harry Potter movie was in theaters and that movie probably completely overshadowed "Treasure Planet".
They actually created the language of the Atlantis for this movie!
What I really like is that they went out of their way to create a foreign language for the Atlanteans. I actually have an illustrated book of the script with all kinds of notes and details about different scenes, tech, the language - everything. I am proud to have learned some of the words from the Atlantean language. 😊
Wow nice man!!
@@whitenoisereacts thanks! It cost quite a lot when I got it.
Lol I love how you guys kept thinking he was the villain from the jump he’s just eccentric lol which is why I love him
There was also a sequel movie made of the first 3 episodes of a canceled Atlantis TV series. Another fun fact they got the guy who made the Klingon language to make the Atlantean language and writing system.
Also there are whispers of this movie getting the live action treatment.
This is one of my favorite underrated movies
Pretty hardcore opening for a family-friendly movie, huh? Heck, I’m pretty sure this Disney movie has THE highest body count!
So fun fact, they found what is the strongest candidate for the inspiration for Atlantis, Helike.
Helike was an ancient Greek Polis founded during the early bronze age and survived until the end of the Classical era. It was the principal city of the Achaea and became the main trading Hub of Ancient Greece and was a center for Culture and History, even participating in the Trojan war. One night in the Winter of 373 Helike was struck by and earthquake that caused it to collapse and sink into a crater. The earthquake in turn set of a Tsunami which Struck Helike and filled the Crater with water. The next day when help from the surrounding area arrived, there were no survivors, this event was one of the worst disasters of Ancient Greece and extremely well documented. People who had been to Helike in the days Prior to the disaster reported strange events occurring; explosions, pillars of Fire, and all of the Animals fleeing the city. It is believed that the people of Helike angered their Patron God the Earthshaking God of the Sea himself; Posiedon. Not 100% on the details of why. Some believe that it involved a statue of posiedon that was meant to be given as a gift to another kingdom. Either he was angry about them giving the statue, or they backed out and he was angry about that.
For decades after, all that could be seen of the once great Polis was the very top of buildings and trees, as well as the top of the great statue of Poseidon. Explorers and travelers would talk about seeing it during their travels, until eventually it could no longer to found. Archeologist have since spent 2000 years searching for it under the seas. Until one Greek archeologist decided to translate a single word differently. She translated it to Lagoon and shortly after Helike was found in the middle of a field in 2001. Turns out over the years the lagoon had been filled with sediment and eventually lost.
For reference here is a small timeline and evidence.
Helike founded
Plato Birth: 428/427
Fall of Helike: 373
Atlantis written: 360
Plato Death: 348/347
Both Atlantis and Helike dissapeared over night.
Both Atlantis and Helike have Posiedon as their patron.
Both Atlantis and Helike were advanced cities.
Both Atlantis and Helike were their cultural centers.
Though there are still some who disagree and continue to search, the majority of the historical and Archeological community have agreed that Helike is "Atlantis".
Also fun fact. They have since discovered that the exact same event has occurred multiple times in the same location. They found an even older city that in the same area that was also distroyed by an earthquake and tsunami about 2000 years prior to Helike. And again even more recently(Within the last 50ish years I think) though there was no city, I believe a weapons depo was distroyed. People in the area reported explosions, and pillars of Fire followed by and earthquake and tsunami. (Can't currently refind the modern event so that may not be 100% accurate)
To me this film could have done being longer or as 2 parts. The first third was really well paced, we got to know all the characters where it mattered and we got a lot of context for it but we spent barely any time exploring Atlantis itself. If made today the film needs to be longer or as a tv series or film series to flesh out the latter half properly.
Still one of my personal favourite films and I loved the reaction, Vinnie kills me every time he opens his mouth.
this story's progression, many of the symbols are also similar to the film and tv serie stargate sg1; some people believe atlantis was an extraterrestrial colony near greece or antartica; supposedly atlantis disappeared when the magnetic poleshift happened several thousands years ago.
One of my favorite Disney movies ever!
You guys are coming in clutch with these movies you're reacting to. Psycho, sleeping beauty, and now Atlantis?! You guys also appreciate the creativity and work that are put into movies, more than the average reactor. It's really refreshing from the people who dissect movies to bits, or dont realize how cool what they're watching is 🙂
Atlantis, iron giant and treasure planet were my fav 3 movies of all time growing up, literally wore out the iron giant and Atlantis VHS tapes and lost the cases for all of them as well as most of the Disney movies we had, and the treasure planet main theme is one of the best film scores of all time imo.
this one and treasure planet are my all time favorite disney movies since my childhood!
The best and most underrated Disney movie
Fun fact: Nicolas Cage was considered to voice Milo Thatch. Cage later ended up starring in National Treasure which is also a Disney flick.
I love this movie, I find it is highly underrated. And one I wouldn’t mind them remaking in live action. Great rewatching it with you guys, great reaction as always. 👍🏼
For the longest time I always thought that Tommy Lee Jones voiced Roarke, but then I found IMDB existed. Non the less, this was the Disney movie that I watched the most as a kid. More people need to recognize the greatness of this under appreciated film.
I'm inclined to think a few of the animators from Pocahontas were involved in this movie, based on the style of a few characters (like Helga, the blond girl). I love how the characters in this movie were drawn- I hope Disney makes more classicly animated pictures in the future 😔
Ah, back in the day when Disney knew how to make good films! This and Treasure Planet are the definition of "underrated".
I love the cohesion of colors in this movie. The way they used different tones to illustrate background shadows in layers was really beautiful.
Might be Disney's most underrated animated movie ever!
I've never been a huge fan of musicals, so as a kid this was my favourite disney movie. Still is. So glad they went with a more serious tone for this movie over singing 😂
Good old _Atlantis: The Lost Empire._ The first time I watched it, I got a huge laugh when I instantly recognized the voice of Helga Sinclair as Claudia Christian, who played Commander Ivanova on _Babylon 5,_ an absolutely fantastic (and criminally under-recognized) show I have loved since it aired in the '90s. There was also the hilarity of comparing Milo Thatch to Daniel Jackson from _Stargate._ And the fact that Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, is the voice of the King of Atlantis. In fact, this film is an absolute treasure trove for sci-fi fans.
A lot of people say that Hans from Frozen was the first to start the whole plot twist villain thing in Disney movies. But no it was this guy who started it.
I hope Disney makes a live action adaptation for Atlantis, cause I already have my caste for it: Steven Lang as Rourke, Scarlet Johannsen as Helga, Tom Holland as Milo, Terry Crews as Dr. Sweet, and Chloe Bennet as Kida.
Great casting! Take my money, no questions asked
@@Xethuron Thanks! Though I wish I knew who to caste for Audrey and the Atlantis King.
@@theawesomeman9821 For the King I would propose Ian McCellen and Aimee Garcia for Audrey. And how about Timothy Spall for Moliere?
@@Xethuron I like your choices for Audrey and Mole, now with McCellen, I'll watch him but I wanted someone Middle-Eastern to play the king.
@@theawesomeman9821 Then how about Shaun Toub, who played Yinsen in Iron Man?
Atlantis & Treasure Planet in Live Action would both be absolutely stunning and I hope Disney decides to make them.
The main elder of Atlantic was voiced Leonard Nimoy.
Atlantis The lost Empire, Treasure Planet, & The Great Mouse Detective are all hidden gems
Characters and background were created by artist/writer Mike Mignola, the creator of Dark Comics' "Hellboy" among other creations.
And Kida never got to be an official Disney princess cause the movie didn´t make enough money. She became Queen before Elsa or Anna
One of my favorite little details is the similarity between the museum board and the Kings of the Past. The tall one with the long beard in the back was what clued me in.
You always choose the best movies. Thanks for that)
This is in my top 3 Disney movies. I absolutely love this move, always have! So cool to watch you guys watch this for the first time
I would so love to see a live-action film of this. An updated and live-action version of the movie would be really awesome to see. This and Treasure Planet. They're such underrated classics that often go unnoticed in favor of the more well-known movies.
I love the coelacanths in the background of that one mansion scene. I think this is the only movie I've ever seen them in. They're so cool! ^-^
I feel like Atlantis, Road to Eldorado, Anastasia and Treasure Planet are all criminally underrated.
This movie is
*Chef kiss*
Plot hole: Why did Rourke and his thugs go through the trouble of trying to get rich by taking the power source instead of taking the piles of Gold that was shown at the end of the movie?
I believe the plan was to literally disarm the Atlanteans by taking the crystal first, then use the evidence they had to find additional expeditions to harvest the treasures once they were easy to obtain.
Also, a critical point is that the expedition had severely limited vehicles for a return voyage, and since it depended on lighter-than-air transportation to return to the surface they were limited in what they could take, by the weight if not the space itself. The loss of just a part of that balloon was enough to make Rourke decide to toss Helga off, so they definitely couldn't have gotten something as heavy as all that gold off the ground without Atlantean transportation.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS, atlantis is one of my favorites for sure
Fun fact: James Newton Howard who compose the score in this film chose an Indonesian orchestral sound of Gamelan incorporating chimes, bells and gongs after Howard decided to have a different musical theme for the culture of the surface world and Atlantis
Them: "this is not a kids movie"
Me: literally my favorite movie when I was younger.
I wish we had more movies focusing on the lost continents and civilizations.
Imagine not only Atlantis, but also Mu and Lemuria having their own version of a world war during the Antediluvial era.
The Leviathan in real life would a terrifying weapon. It can wreck ships thus denying use of the sea and flies... and the Atlanteans built a fleet of those things.
My favorite moment int the movie is the rise of the guardians as they bravely walk and face the power of the element of fire like heroes of old. Then they summon a force beyond imagination to save the city.
Also, someone made a great video defining everyone's unique hands and fingers
Yes!! I've been waiting for you to react to this!☺ Definitely a forgotten gem with some really good messages.
Love from Missouri!😁
Makes me so happy to see that people are reacting to this movie!
In terms of Disney animation, I think this film has the highest death count.
I’d love to see your reactions to Sinbad after seeing you watch this.
