I forgot where I saw it, but someone pointed this out, but- when Kida's mom is taken by the crystal, her dad tells her to avert her eyes next we see him, he is blind now the man's old, so it could be old age. ...or he kept his eyes on the crystal, on his wife
One of the best and most relatable things in this movie: "What's Mole's story?" "Trust me, you don't wanna know. Audrie, don't tell him. You shouldn'a told me, but ya did. And now I'm tellin' you, you don't wanna know."
For reference, Milo is one of the older characters for disney at 36 years old 👀👀 Also the part of Kida introducing herself, i absolutely hate how disney fucked his character just to give her a nickname for the audience to use because there is no way, this man who has spent his entire life learning to pronounce/read/speak Atlantian would suddenly fuck up how to say Kidagakash! He wouldve said it Perfectly.
I think reading a language is not the same as knowing how it´s written when spoken, don`t tell me you´ve never heard any English word that you needed spelling for it to know how to pronounce it properly, because it sure happened to me in some languages I studied. Unless I had read that word or name before, I would still need spelling.
Egyptologists learned how to read heiroglyphics and even came up with their own version of the spoken language, but the fact of the matter is, no one alive has heard the Ancient Egyptian language spoken before, so there are only theories on how words are pronounced. For instance, the word Ra. It could have been pronounced "Rah" or "Ray", Egyptologists chose to pronounce it "Ray" (I think that was a more modern decision, since I remember as a child hearing them say "Rah" but during a recent Egyptology course, I was corrected on the pronunciation). So yeah, it is possible to not be good at pronouncing a language that you can read, if you've never heard it spoken by a fluent native of that land and time.
I see "Atlantis: The Lost Empire", I click! One of my favorite animated films ever! It basically has the same (general) plot beats as "Stargate", which is fine by me as I also love that movie. The animation is beautiful, characters are lovable and memorable!
"The journal is his gift to you Milo. Atlantis is waiting." Said in a tone that is as loving as a family member could've said. Whitmore was definitely channeling Thaddeus in that moment
"Giving me Journey to the Centre of the Earth vibes." The ship they are in, the Nautilus, was the ship of captain Nemo from Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. Which was written by Jules Verne, the same author as Journey!
Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet and Emperor's New Groove are three Disney Films that just keep getting better older they get. RIP Jim Varney, you amazing comedian.
This is one of the best Disney movies ever made in my opinion and I think it rivals The Lion King. This movie came out during Disney's Dark Age and so it doesn't get much attention and I wish more reactors covered it. Kida is an amazing character and she deserves so much more respect than she gets in Disney marketing.
I am fairly certain this movie was maybe inspired, definitely influenced by the 1994 Stargate, which (if you haven't seen) I highly recomend you watch, I think you'd enjoy it
I'm so sad that Blondie had to die and couldn't be redeemed AND allowed to live. They tried to make a TV show sequel and she would have really made it. Instead they compiled the pilot episodes into a direct to DVD movie.
I agree! She was a really interesting character. Not pure evil like the Commander. You could tell she cared about people and she was having conflicted feelings about what they were doing. I hope the live action remake has some redemption for her.
@@neasulavuori4955 There have been rumors for a while now. Nothing is confirmed but I mean, knowing Disney, it’s only a matter of time. I hope it’s as good as Maleficent and Cinderella. Or better.

The King of Atlantis died of internal bleeding! That punch was what killed him! He was overtly, stated in the dialogue, murdered in this children's cartoon.
Pleased to hear you recognise the voice talent of David Ogden Steirs ( sadly departed ) the voice of Cogsworth .. he also voiced Ratcliffe the villain in Pocahontas 😁 Great reaction 👍🏼
Kida awoke something in me as a 7 year old boy in 2001 😂😂 And this is my favorite animated movie. The art style, pacing, setting, characters etc. Everything’s basically perfect.
I love this movie growing up along with The Road to El Dorado. I actually witnessed the creators making Atlantis: The lost Empire at Disneyworld back in 2000 when I was 5 years old on vacation. They had a tour showing what's new coming for Disney and Atlantis was one of the creations along with Fantasia 2000 and Lilo and Stitch. They were showing the illustrations and designs for everything. So, I'll always have a soft spot for this movie. They even had a mini art class project for the kids to draw Stitch and teenagers could draw Mole from Atlantis.
This is my fav Disney movie!!! Just started your channel yesterday with your avatar the last airbender reactions and live action Cinderella! Atlantis was one of the first Disney movies I watched around 5 so it’s very nostalgic as well lol
Like a lot of folks, I had a fascination with Atlantis growing up. The idea of a civilization with advanced technology lost to a cataclysm and forgotten by time is truly incredible in every way. Needless to say, this movie is in my top 5 for animated movies. It truly is a chef's kiss in terms of quality, story, pacing, and everything in between. The imagery is magnificent, and it truly shows what dedicated talented artists can achieve when they set their minds to it. While it may not have hit it big like other classics, it will absolutely stand the test of time and inspire generations to come who have a passion for adventure. The sequel sadly was given to the B-team and doesn't come close to the same level. It falls short in all respects as far as animation, story, and overall quality. That being said, I would at least recommend watching it at least once. While nowhere close to the same level, it does at least entertain and brings the group back together for another adventure, which is nice if for nothing else besides nostalgia.
The first time I watched Avatar, I instantly thought the plot was very similar to Atlantis, but longer, way longer 😂. So it's fair to say that Atlantis is the original Avatar 👌🏼😂
I absolutely loved this movie growing up. Glad you enjoyed it. Was so sad to find out later that this movie didn’t do well. Like why? It’s awesome! Really helped me with my mythology craze growing up.
Can you react to "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron"? It's a story about a strong, beautiful horse with a spirit that can never be broken. I cry every time i watch it! 😭💔🔥
There was going to be an Aladdin-like TV show where they go about the world picking up Atlantean artifacts (It became a straight-to-dvd movie). But unlike Aladdin, Kida would have been the action girl because Milo has a "diminished physic and large forehead suited for research" but he would be able to be the planner and brains. They didn't do it because the era of Saturday cartoons had just ended. It would have been cool to see another kick-ass princess.
Kind of miss Saturday cartoons. There was something satisfying as a kid to get up Saturday morning and watch a show you've been waiting all week for. Now I have nothing to look forward to on Saturdays but more sleep and hoping people leave me alone.
I LOVE this movie! The only reason Kida is not in the official Disney Princess Line-Up (and is actually the FIRST Disney HUMAN queen - as I consider Nala to be the first "coronated" animated queen, even though she's a lioness) is because this movie did not perform well in the box office. Really makes you think about the others in the line-up. If their movies had performed poorly in the box office, they also would not be official princesses. This movie was definitely ahead of its time! Kida has always been my favorite Disney leading lady! Cree Summers' voice is truly perfect for this role.
This movie basically got me obsessed with Atlantis from a very early age. Probably around 9 or 10 at the time this movie came out. It awoke something hidden deep in my spirit, and to this day I still research Atlantis. I really feel like I may have had a past life in Atlantis, thats how connected to it I feel. I can't really explain it. Its fascinating that the original story of Atlantis was handed down over the millenia and survived. The most famous example of course being when the Egyptians told Plato about Atlantis (or his grandfather? Dont remember exactly) and then Plato telling the story to his students 2000 years ago. Crazy to think that even during Platos time, the story of the fall of Atlantis was supposedly 9000 years old. Which now would make the story approximately 11,000-11,500 years old!
Something curius about this movie, at the time 4:56 some strange fishes appear in the fish tank, they are strangely similar to the relicant fish. The curious part is that by the time this movie came out the relicant was thought to be extinct because there were only fossile records of its existance, it was rediscovered years after this movie came out. So the one who designed those fish was literally looking at the future.
25:54 This perception is exactly why it failed, unfortunately. People think animated = for kids so adults take no interest but nothing in it appeals to kids either.
Sad thing is, Hunchback had come out before hand and I'd argue that isn't technically for kids since it deals with very realistic adult themes that makes your skin crawl as an adult.
Ahhhh this movie is AMAZING! it is something else. The animation, the acting voices, the treasure and adventure story telling is so well done. I hope with the time ppl could appreciate more this movie. Kida scenes with the heart of Atlantis are my favorite parts. Good job Oscar 😊
No way! I love this movie! I'm still so upset this movie didn't do well when it was first released. I remember watching it and loving it to bits, but my peers didn't even see it. Love that it's getting more attention among reactors on YT. Another movie with similar animation style is Simbad & Treasure Island. Both really good movies!
Oh I LOVED Atlantis The Lost Empire! That was one of my favorites back in the early 2000s. Another one was Treasure Planet. I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet but if not, it’s a must-see.
Oh, I am really looking forward to this one! This movie made me realize that my type is a tall, lanky, glasses wearing, shaggy haired intellectual dork 😂 (I say this with love being a dork myself)
Fun fact, the voice of Kida's father was Leonard Nimoy (the original Spock). If you like the look of the technology, you might consider Disney's original "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea."
Atlantis: The Lost Empire and The Road to El Dorado are the first films that always come to mind when discussing amazing films that somehow slipped by a major box office moment due to another insanely huge film hitting cinemas at the same time.
You made me so happy with this reaction. This was my favourite movie as a child and I still love it to this day. It's such a good story and really gets you hooked from the first second. Also, I love Kida. I think the only other disney movie with even more death is Mulan, nothing else compared to this.
There is a part 2 of this movie called Atalntis 2: Milo's Return. Another GREAT movie you should watch for an underrated kids movie is Road to El Dorado, stunning animation, sweet soundtrack and honestly kinda creepy in sections for a kids' movie. One of my personal faves as a kid that would still watch today is called The Pebble and the Penguin, a creative musical with great characters and parts that younger kids would find scary.
What is so crazy to me, is that all the information that they use about Atlantis is exactly the right data that we have in real time so it was cool to watch them play out a story that comes from fact as well
One of my favorite Disney films (easily top 5). 13:08 After the writers got finished with their last film (Hunchback of Notre Dame) they had lunch discussing what type of movie they waited to make next as they had also made Beauty and the Beast. Adventure films like that is what led them to make this!
You know, the sad thing is that Disney REALLY wanted/expected this to be a big box-office smash. There was a video game, tie-in comics, tons of marketing.
Such an underrated movie! When I was watching this reaction, I kept marveling at how great Michael J. Fox was in the role too--just so naturally charismatic and expressive. I can't think of anyone in the current younger generation of actors that has that same level of effortless charm. This movie is just such a fun adventure and deserves more love and attention than it gets.
Atlantis and Road to El dorado are the two most underrated animated films in my opinion. they both are like at least in the top 10 best animated movies, but nobody talks about them ever!
That last scene where it pans out, was called the most difficult scene in all animation by the directors. The last frame uses 18000 inch paper! This a great adventure film with amazing character details. For example, I like that Sweet opts out as soon as the king is injured. Kida may not be a Disney princess in the franchise, but she is a queen 👑💚 the crystal monster is the stuff of nightmares!
i just stumbled upon your channel and my first impressions is you have common sense with the comments you make and a genuine reaction to what you are watching i plan on watching 3 more of your other videos after this and if they are as good as this one i have many hours to look forward to
such a fun reaction, it was a joy to watch! I didn't really think about it before, but now that you said it the movie does have many heavy and creepy parts too for a childrens movie, but honestly as a kid I loved it (and still do). I've always been so fascinated by the lore and the mystery of the crystal.
Like the first video of yours i saw, this was also such a joy to watch. Your reactions and expressions in these truly make a great "reaction" video. I appreciate so much you don't talk over the parts and constantly distract from the story. You actually pay attention and comment on interesting or important things. Most other reaction videos have the person missing important parts of the movie because they are asking questions that don't matter or will be answered if they just waited a second. Or they just talk over parts to make jokes. I like your reaction style. - Respectful to the movie and story. - You have interesting and sweet thoughts about the senes. - And you thoroughly enjoy the movie, not just acting... it seems.
this is one of the movies i would choose for my absolute favorite movie that i can watch over and over, there´s so much detail, the music is fantastic, the characters, the voice acting, the story and the whole background and effort that everyone invested in this movie... its definetively my number one, i enjoyed rewatching this with you man.. thanks
I'm pretty sure that Mole said "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?" At the beginning you hear Voulez-vous and then he starts whispering the rest. Rough translation, "Would you like to make love to me?" I'm not good at French, but I've heard Lady Marmalade enough to at least know that. That would explain why Kida slapped him.
This was one of my favourite movies growing up. I remember having a "gem" necklace (plastic) like that - it had a blue light that would turn off if you turned the gem the right way. It was pretty awesome lol
That machine lobster thing was there to protect any outsiders from finding or entering Atlantis that’s why it was very persistent/determined in stopping them. This movie came out for an early release at the El Capitan Theatre in L.A. And it came out around my birthday so we went to go see it for my birthday. I absolutely freaking love and adore this movie so much, the nostalgia. I remember thinking wow this movie is so beautiful/amazing and there was so much blue lol which is my favorite color. At my age, I immediately recognised Vinny's voice from the original SNL crew. Don Novello is a comedian who played a priest named Father Guido Sarducci on the show, with about the same accent. He also published his collections of prank letters under the name Lazlo Toth.
This is one of my favorite Disney movie as a kid. I was honestly obsessed about the idea of Atlantis existing in some part of this world, because of the influence of Nat'l Geographic Documentaries about Ancient Cities. I also didn't know that it wasn't as popular as the other Disney movies, this was frequently shown in Disney Channel, at least in my country, and I always watch it in full every time it airs and so I thought it was as popular like Emperor's New Groove, Treasure Planet and the likes. Rewatching this with you made me realize that this is more of a mature content than for kids esp with the deaths. I didn't even notice that back then. But anyway, I've been seeing so much of your reactions and just realizing that I haven't subscribe, LOL!

I love this movie so much! My husband and I quote it all the time. Atlantis 2 is good too, but it doesn’t compare to the first one. It basically combines three episodes of a tv show that never happened. I still liked it as a kid though.
This experimental age of Disney is just so amazing and I hate how little these films were appreciated when they came out which incidentally impacts their reach even today. This is by quite a large margin my favorite disney film and easily in my top 5 animated films period.
Ok now that you're on a journey to find hidden animated movie gems, you should watch the prince of egypt and honestly, i know not a lot of people like this but personally it gave me a similar dark but adventurous feeling this movie did, that being the original "The Rescuers", i know the story isn't nearly as grand but the cave scene made me feel the same way that Kida walking on water or the submarine sinking did in this one, just chills.
Gotta love that between the picture and the proof provided by Milo, Whitmore knows that what the crew is telling him is a very bad fabrication.. but at the same time he gets the point, that the discovery should be passed on as a failure so that the city remains a secret, and thats why he doesnt point out that they are obviously lying to him. After all, for him its enough to know that is was indeed real and found for the sake of his old friend. Thats all he wanted from this expedition.
Awesome! I love how genuine you are in your reactions and your insightful commentary. You should definitely react to Disney's Treasure Planet, it's another hidden gem that is totally underrated like this movie.
As you can tell from my profile pic, this is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. I relate more to Milo than probably any other animated movie character. As an artist, one of the things I adore the most about this movie is the unique art style! I’m so sad they never continued the concept in any of their other movies. The artist took a lot of influence from ink cartoons from about that time. That’s why they have such sharp lines and harsh shadows. I love the style.
Atlantis is one of, if not my absolute favorite, movie. judging from your reaction to this, i'm watching more, because you've got a very lively commentary style and that is what i love to see.

Difficult to explain how much I love this movie. Loved it from the moment it was released, watched it on repeat. Makes me so happy to see the appreciation for it grow more and more each year.
Atlantis the Lost Empire always has a place in my heart I am so happy you watched it! Yes they do not have films like this anymore and I wish they could revisit this style again!
Um, to be fair, knowing how to spell words does not automatically mean you know how to pronounce them.
Just study swedish for 5 minutes. You'll see.
I thought he stumbled over her name because she is an attractive and strong woman in little clothing. XD
I see "Atlantis: The Lost Empire", I click! One of my favorite animated films ever! It basically has the same (general) plot beats as "Stargate", which is fine by me as I also love that movie. The animation is beautiful, characters are lovable and memorable!
Cue why I had a crush on both Daniel Jackson and Milo as a kid xD
"The journal is his gift to you Milo. Atlantis is waiting." Said in a tone that is as loving as a family member could've said. Whitmore was definitely channeling Thaddeus in that moment
I spoke to Cree Summer, the voice of Kida, recently and I had to focus every atom of my being in order to not cry. I love Kida so much!!
What's she like now?
"Giving me Journey to the Centre of the Earth vibes." The ship they are in, the Nautilus, was the ship of captain Nemo from Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. Which was written by Jules Verne, the same author as Journey!
I believe the ship in Atlantis is actually titled The Ulysses.
She should be called a Disney Princess. If Elsa gets the title she should too.
funny they stole BOTH Lion King from (Kimba the White Lion) and this Atlantis from (Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water) nearly shot for shot....
As a Pocahontas girlie growing up, this movie has me in a chokehold. So happy to see you react to it!!
"Tell Cookie to melt the butter and bring out the bibs, I want this lobster served on a silver platter." is such a great line.
I am fairly certain this movie was maybe inspired, definitely influenced by the 1994 Stargate, which (if you haven't seen) I highly recomend you watch, I think you'd enjoy it
“Dang lightning bugs done bit me on my sit-upon. Somebody’s gonna have to suck out this poison. Now don’t everybody jump up at once.”
Mrs. Packard is God tier of "I don't give a fuck"
@@lilscenechick1995 there's gonna be live action now?
@@lilscenechick1995 She was voiced by Claudia Christian, best known for her role as Commander Ivanova in Babylon 5.
@@neasulavuori4955 There have been rumors for a while now. Nothing is confirmed but I mean, knowing Disney, it’s only a matter of time. I hope it’s as good as Maleficent and Cinderella. Or better.
Her name is Helga btw ;)
there's a lot of star power in this movie. Michael J Fox, Jim Varney, Don Novello, Cree Summer, even Leonard Nimoy
More tragic when you realize the reason the King was blind was he refused to look away from the crystal's light and miss his wife's final moments.
I love that bond that forms between Milo and Kida.
"I haven't seen a kids film where so many die?"
Conviniently forget the people in the opening sequence that literally was locked out of the barrier and drowned or was crushed to death.
Thank you so much for your commentaries. I know you might hear this a lot but, you've become a comfort youtube of mine. You have such a soft tone and excitement when watching anything that makes me so happy. I often re-watch your videos because they make me smile or help me get through a tough day. This video was no different. So thank you! This movie deserved some love and you gave it that and more!
17:28 “That’s a bit problematic!”😮
😂 so much meme potential!🤣
The King of Atlantis died of internal bleeding! That punch was what killed him! He was overtly, stated in the dialogue, murdered in this children's cartoon.
😢
Pleased to hear you recognise the voice talent of David Ogden Steirs ( sadly departed ) the voice of Cogsworth .. he also voiced Ratcliffe the villain in Pocahontas 😁 Great reaction 👍🏼
Kida awoke something in me as a 7 year old boy in 2001 😂😂
And this is my favorite animated movie.
36:10 "He seems psycho"
You think that's psycho, wait till he turns blue
Yes it's Michael J. Fox! So happy you recognized his voice😊
I second this!
film bodies me everytime i see it
One of my childhood favorites that absolutely changed my perspective on life. Such a good film with a fantastic soundtrack. It’s a masterpiece imo.
Atlantis is like… my favourite Disney movie. It's so under appreiciated. Loved your reaction!
Fun thing: when I saw Quaritch in Avatar, first thing that came to my mind was “oh, this dude is much alike Rourke from Atlantis”😁
Cree Summers' voice is truly perfect for this role.
atlantis and treasure planet were my favorite movies to watch as a kid! im so happy that you chose it to watch!
Omg that cook is the opposite of the cabbage guy 😂
Michael J. Fox is the voice of Milo in the movie
What is so crazy to me, is that all the information that they use about Atlantis is exactly the right data that we have in real time so it was cool to watch them play out a story that comes from fact as well
I also believe that avatar did, in fact take a lot of inspiration from this movie
this movie was my whole childhood! the animation, the story, the jokes! it was an amazing movie and i LOVED it as a kid
Atlantis and Road to El dorado are the two most underrated animated films in my opinion. they both are like at least in the top 10 best animated movies, but nobody talks about them ever!
i loved this as a kid. i saw it my grandmother, may she rest in peace.
18000 inch paper? That would be 1500 feet. That's over 1/4th of a mile.
i just stumbled upon your channel and my first impressions is you have common sense with the comments you make and a genuine reaction to what you are watching i plan on watching 3 more of your other videos after this and if they are as good as this one i have many hours to look forward to
such a fun reaction, it was a joy to watch!
I didn’t realize the King of Atlantis was played by Leonard Nimoy.
20:36 This film came before Avatar though, so the plot of Avatar is the one that is similar to Atlantis.
And yes it’s a very charming/fun exciting movie. It still gives me chills/goosebumps to this day. I actually already got them watching your reaction to it lol I will always love this movie. It holds a special place in my heart. I was 6 years old when this came out and I was about to turn 7. Gosh even the trailer for this movie felt so freaking epic. I’m trying not to cry right now and I think im failing lol brings back so many memories. I’m getting so old I’m supposed to be 29 this year 😢 Thank you so much for reacting to this movie. It’s crazy you’re one of my new reactors that I just found last year. But it didn’t take long for me to love your personality. You just seem so kind and genuine and I feel like you just wear your heart on your sleeve. I mean I could be wrong but those are the vibes I get from watching your reactions. I feel like we’d be great friends and get along very well. You’re already one of my favorites. 😊 Keep up the good work and I hope your weekend has been going well. 💙🩵
Seeing you react to so many of my favorite movies and shows is so fun! This, mean girls, and the Spirit movie reaction made me choose to subscribe! Keep up the good work :3
At my age, I immediately recognised Vinny's voice from the original SNL crew.
This movie, Lilo and Stitch, and the original Beauty and the Beast are my favorites Disney movies.
This was 1 of my favorite childhood movies still rewatch it every now and then
Omg...!!! I rememer seeing this one at the Cinema as a kid,..!!!❤😍🤩😍❤️ I'm 30 now....Damn..😅😅
-The scene when she's being lifted up into the light an all that...The Music! Man, I became so opsessed with it..!😂❤
I love this movie so much! My husband and I quote it all the time.
Atlantis 2 is good too, but it doesn’t compare to the first one. It basically combines three episodes of a tv show that never happened. I still liked it as a kid though.
One of my top 3 Disney films (alongside the Great Mouse Detective and Rescuers Down Under)
The Great Mouse Detective is great have it on DVD. Also love both Rescuers movies.
This experimental age of Disney is just so amazing and I hate how little these films were appreciated when they came out which incidentally impacts their reach even today. This is by quite a large margin my favorite disney film and easily in my top 5 animated films period.
Ok now that you're on a journey to find hidden animated movie gems, you should watch the prince of egypt
and honestly, i know not a lot of people like this but personally it gave me a similar dark but adventurous feeling this movie did, that being the original "The Rescuers", i know the story isn't nearly as grand but the cave scene made me feel the same way that Kida walking on water or the submarine sinking did in this one, just chills.
Easily one the most criminally underrated Disney films of all time, if not the very most.
Milo and Kida are just goals!
The art in this movie is what really made want to be an artist.
This movie is seriously underrated, I’m glad you watched it.
Cree Summer’s best voice roll.
I'm so glad you loved it. Only started watching your reactions recently, but everything i've watched has been great.
Atlantis is one of, if not my absolute favorite, movie. judging from your reaction to this, i'm watching more, because you've got a very lively commentary style and that is what i love to see.
this was such an underrated film. its beautiful and touching and a wonderful, artful story.
The way I giggled in excitement when you said you were looking forward to a "light adventure film", knowing the epic journey you were about to be taken on.
If you want like a soft conclusion of this story there is a second film with Atlantean connections through out the world! I highly recommend! This film keeps my love for history alive!
Have a great day!
