That looks incredible. At the age of 42 I have just begun collecting Dark Angels. I can only hope that one day my painting skills are half as good as yours. Thanks for all the inspiration and guidance.
"And now, you can learn their deepest painting secrets!" I actually LOLd at the mid-sentence change in tone. Looking forward to painting these guys up (with their secrets).
The BEST painting channel. I appreciate you doing the kill team releases in a timely manner! I will absolutely be subbing to patreon once i finish moving to a new place.
Well as I just managed to get ths Nightmare box, this video was very useful , especially the skin capes and the lightening bolts which frankly at this scale scared me .
looks really cool ive never thoguht about using balthazar instead of retributor on my night lords trim, one thing i do though is instead of a wash of nuln on the armour panels i use drakenhoff and it gets a really nice dark blue when used on the kantor blue.
Yeah I get that! I'm going to spray the other 5 I have woth Runelord Brass and see if that speeds things up a bit - and son't forget you can always paint the base colours first and keep adding to them :)
So when you did the highlight of runelord brass on the trim did you paint it on all the flatter areas? Or did you just paint it on the very edges. Kind of hard to tell. Thank you!
Fantastic job on the NL dude. Was your paintbrush the Rosemary and Co size 4? If so did you use for the whole model? I just picked one up and keen to use it on these guys
@@ThePaintingCoach ah sick. Thank you! Ok I’ll get one of those. I’ve been burning through crappy brushes for too long. I hear that Welsh 🏴 accent. You’re not anything to do with Firestorm in Cardiff are you? That’s our local and we basically spend our wages there 🤦♂️
Dumb question but are you glazing the other blue colours? I ask because I just thinned down as usual and my example doesn't have smooth transitions like yours, which I wouldn't expect as I didn't glaze, but I just don't recall you mentioning it explicitly :)
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you. Your tutorial is one of a few where I have specifically bought all the paints because I like the scheme so much. I guess I didn't thin my paints as much as I perhaps thought. Then again I've just contradicted myself because I also use night lords blue not Kantor on this occasion.
@@benrichardson5662 is it the taste or maybe technical, for example that washes wouldnt highlight details enough?! Just asking cause i am not that experianced
I prime my World Eaters in Retributor armor then fill in the armor panels with Khorne red. Not sure how well the blue would cover gold though (red covers very well).
*Screams in give me upgrade sprues* Man I hope the wait on the sprues themselves isnt too long, I plan on getting 3-4 or even more of these once they do come out.

The fear of painting chaos is real. Another incredible video man.
Cheers mate
The first video where the trim exactly matches the colour and effect i'm looking for!

Thanks Lee - I'm 40! The new Dark Angels models are great

Gotta keep it light 🤣
The rich blue highlighting is exactly what ive been looking for. Thank you

Incredible job here, mate!
Can't wait to try it out when mine arrive in a few weeks.
Thanks!

I sincerely hope there's a Mandrake video to follow this, your videos tend to make sense to me and I find it's easy to get a good result
There is - next week :)
Your painting really gives the miniatures a character of their own :) tempted getting a Night Lord's kill team now
Cheers
Wonderful looking model, really easy to follow turtorial! 😊
Thanks!
Thank you so much. I had a hard time doing my helbrute and seeing this gives me confidence doing the rest of my army
Cheers
love the tutorial!
Thanks

Thank you so much, this guide is everything ! Keep up the good work
Glad it helped!
Looking forward to painting these scary boiz up =]
“I was there the day Lloyd slew his Vallejo chrome…”
The books have converted me and these models are awesome
Thank you!!
Great work!

Great tutorial and always nice to hear a Welsh accent on a youtube vid.
Thanks!
@@ThePaintingCoach I'm using the steps for the blue on a model right now as it happens!
Alternatives for tempest blue?
This will improve my future Night lord units (right now paint mainly Chaos Legionaries)
It's a colour match for Kantor Blue, although with highlighting you may be able to get away with any dark blue spray
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you very much, wanted to make my future bois bit lighter

My man that dark aluminium looks smooth as butter! Does it really cover in one single coat?
Most of the time yes - if it is a larger area or not quite shaken enough it can take two
Great tutorial! How did you do the base?
Thanks - it's vallejo red texture paste, agrax earthshade wash and then a loght orange dry brush
Really nice vid, I wouldn’t mind a video that went properly in depth on doing gold/brass trim though.
That empty chrome model air bottle needs the funeral of a hero. The bottle hat taught the newest generation of warhammer fanatics!!
Professional 🖌👍
The model looks fire
Thanks!
It looks amazing, but the thought of painting an army like this is scary!
Yeah I get that! I'm going to spray the other 5 I have woth Runelord Brass and see if that speeds things up a bit - and son't forget you can always paint the base colours first and keep adding to them :)

Runelird brass was on most of the trim areas
Fantastic job on the NL dude. Was your paintbrush the Rosemary and Co size 4? If so did you use for the whole model? I just picked one up and keen to use it on these guys
I use a series 33 size 1for pretty much everything

Haha - I know Firestorm but haven't been there since the new move! I'm a bit further west
@@ThePaintingCoach well they do say West is best. Diolch for the cracking tutorials. It’s really helping me up my game
I have heard :) and no problem!
You made my day thanks man ! But I have a question how do you keep you brush in a point when I try it they just shoot open.. ?
I twist the brush into a point as I take it off the palette 👍🏻
there we go :D looks awesome, this will by the way i try to paint my nemesis claws. can you maybe show how you painted the mask of the Fearmonger?
I haven't painted it yet - if it's the white mask then it will be corax white - soulblight grey - titanium white highlight
@@ThePaintingCoach yes exactly the white mask, thank you for the explanation
Thanks very much for the vid! Why did you go down the sotek green - baharroth blue route as opposed to some of your highlight blues?
Do you mean on the lightning?
@@ThePaintingCoach yep, the lightning bolts
@pete_the_bak to give a different colour blue mainly - i think using the armour highlights would have blended it in too much
@@ThePaintingCoach that makes sense thank you!
@pete_the_bak no problem
How did u get the ndw nightlords models already?
I get them as part of GW influencer programme
Dumb question but are you glazing the other blue colours? I ask because I just thinned down as usual and my example doesn't have smooth transitions like yours, which I wouldn't expect as I didn't glaze, but I just don't recall you mentioning it explicitly :)
No I didn't glaze it per se - mayne my paint was a bit thinner so the transitions were a little smoother
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you. Your tutorial is one of a few where I have specifically bought all the paints because I like the scheme so much. I guess I didn't thin my paints as much as I perhaps thought. Then again I've just contradicted myself because I also use night lords blue not Kantor on this occasion.
i really like this! how come you decided to go kantor blue route, rather than Night lords blue?
Cheers - it's the darkest blue I have 🤣
Good point, i always asked myself why so many go with kantor blue instead of night lord blue
@@Sourlife.Night Lords Blue is very dark, to the point of being *too* dark for many people's tastes.
@@benrichardson5662 is it the taste or maybe technical, for example that washes wouldnt highlight details enough?! Just asking cause i am not that experianced

Saluting the chrome model air bottle. o7

Everytime the paintbrush dissapears from the screen I can't help but picture you licking the paint of xD
Definitely not a brush licker 🤣
You should try liquitex paints they have matches for gw paint like mephiston red and kantor blue, one tube is atleat 30+ pots of gw paint.
These are great… but why are their legs so short?
How I wish I were able to purchase those models… 😢
I'm sure the individual release will only be a few months behind
0:48 - The real reason you're all here...
🤣
I personally perfer it in the mid stage. Kinda grim dark and simple really suits it well.
My first minis are night lords lol
RIP Chrome Model Air
We have a new one!
The quality of your painting have taken a jump . Have you been on a painting course of some sort ?
No I haven't - but thanks!
I prime my World Eaters in Retributor armor then fill in the armor panels with Khorne red. Not sure how well the blue would cover gold though (red covers very well).
