  • Join Brownells GunTech Keith Ford as he offers an overview of the collectible Mauser KKW .22 training rifle used by the Germans during WWII. With the same weight and features as the Mauser K98, the rifle served to train SA, SS, Hitler Youth and other units of the Nazi Party. With only 3000 of these rifles ever produced this particular KKW is a unique and collectible piece of WWII history.

Kieth...that is a beautiful example of a Mauser KKW. You can't go wrong with a Mauser produced small bore!
Mauser made these KKW's in two variations...one with a small Mauser logo on the receiver and a second variation with a larger Mauser banner on the receiver. The small banner production is estimated at 3,000 units, while the larger banner production is estimated at 5,000 units, for a combined total of 8,000 rifles.
The other two manufactures were BSW/ Gustloff and Walther.
BSW/Gustloff made the most KKW's with production estimated around 60,000 rifles.
Walther was the third manufacturer, making the fewest, with estimated production being around 5.500 rifles.
Thanks for sharing such a fine example of a fairly scarce rifle!

I have one from Gustloff Werke but the very end forestock band is one solid piece not like this configuration. Wondering if it is some GI cutdown version?

I just bought a duffle cut Mauser KKW just like yours, but sadly it was duffle cut. Any suggestions on a qualified craftsman or gunsmith who can restore my gun stock to original configuration?
It was cut just forward of the upper handguard/ sling band, and the handguard is missing.
I have 2 original walnut k98 stocks that I could cannibalize for the missing parts, it's the drilling and doweling part that scares me !!!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated...
