- Brownells Public Relations Specialist Roy Hill is here to tell us about his "new" Chilean Model 1935 Mauser rifle. Roy had recently acquired a few hundred rounds of 7mm Mauser ammo and needed a rifle to go with them, when he discovered this rifle in the Brownells Retail Store. He quickly identified it as the quite rare "Modelo 1935" variant of the venerable Mauser 98, made for the Carabineros de Chile, a paramilitary police organization that's kind of the Chilean analog to the Italian Carabinieri. Only about 10,000 Model 1935s were manufactured in Germany by Mauser-Werke. Roy's rifle is No. 405 and is in excellent condition with the markings well-preserved. Roy takes us on a nice walkaround and shows us all the details, including the original sling and a (non-original but same period) bayonet.

Very nice rifle. Brings back memories. I spent a year at the Escuela Militar (Army Officer School) back in 1990, when we still finished high school in the Army. You are right, we still use them for training. I learned military drill with one (a real shoulder smasher!). But we paraded with the Steyr carbine. Used the Mauser for bayonet practice. We shot with the FAMAE SIG. Our Mausers were rechambered in 7,62 NATO.
The Carabineros are a great national force. They are no longer in the Ministry of Defence, but they mantain their military traditions. They use the Mausers for the Presidential Palace Guard.
The crest is of 2 crossed carbines, hence the Carabineros name (they come from cavalry units, like the Carabineros de Yungay Regiment).
Happy shooting!
Thanks for sharing. I just picked up a Chilean Mauser in 7 x 57 made by DWM in Berlin.
Congratulations on your Chilean 1935 Mauser!!! Would love to have one of those!
Big fan of the 7x57mm Mauser Cartridge here and have two Rifles, so chambered.
Carabineros de Chile lo mejor.
I have one of these and it sure is nice, got it 32 years ago. Shoots great, I've never shot a bad group with it. I bought a Brazilian bayonet for it, works. Your bayonet looks like a Czech, works to. Happy shooting.
Simply a great, and so enjoyable, video - THANK YOU!
Great job explaining the history of this Mauser.
My father is from Chile and I would love to get him one.
What a fantastic find! A genuine needle in a haystack. Well done.
Damn nice to here great enunc ation, and vocabulary. Nice rifle
That's a sweet find! Very low number with some cool features. Enjoy!
Thanks for the video. I have a Peruvian Modelo 1935, chambered in 30-06.

Yep, a friend of mine just had to show me this great deal he got on a couple of Mausers.......
The dirty SOB pulls out six different guns.....
Some from Chile, Argentina, and two others I didn't recognize......
They all one thing in common.....
They were PRISTINE!!!!!!!
This is where the dirty SOB told me he only 1000 for the whole bunch.
Well I had to ask (are they stolen)???
He seemed kind of offended......
Good grief, anything that shoots is worth what he paid. But damn!!!!
Everyone of them could easily go for
1200 or better....
I'll certainly give kudos where due.
This guy shoots everything he owns.
Takes EXCELLENT care of them, so I know they are in really good hands.....
These pre-World War II, Mausers, have a quality, and a fit and finish about them that is exceptional.
Good score buddy, its a good one. I love mausers now after aquiring my first commercial mauser in 30.06.
I'm jealous what a find
Lindíssimo modelo
Here I am watching a video about a Chilean Mauser with a Turkish Mauser directly to my right. What a wonderful world.
Wonderful.chilean Mouser.
Good video! Great vault!
Banner Mausers are my favorite finds!
Nice done! Even here is a hard to find 😎👍
You made me take mine out of the safe. Serial number in the 12 hundreds, appears to be 9/10. Original sling, all matching including rod.
TENGO UNO IGUAL HACE MUCHO TIEMPO igual con el numero 9377 esta como acabado de salir de la fabrica es una belleza calibre 7x57.
Great video. Very well done. In some ways i like the Mausers made for other countries even better than the German contract ones. Maybe it is the crests and the mottoes. I have a Chilean 1895, made by Ludwig Loewe (i think they all were) and dated, i believe, 1902. Haven't done much with it yet, but i do like it. Low serial number are great. Don't ask about my M1917 US Enfield with a mid- 200's serial number. Not for sale.......
I am so ready to find one to make my own
I have the Spanish counterpart. Beautiful rifle
Anyone know where to get a chelan 1912 Mauser? I have the bayonet for it and I'd like to pair it up.
I dont think that bayonet will fit a standard K98. It was originally for the Chilean M 1912 Steyr, and its just a tad too tight to fit over the lug
How does the inside of the barrel look? Still good?
Hi, nice video! Are there any markings on that bayonet? It looks like Czechoslovakian vz 33 (m33) police carbine bayonet or maybe vz 24 rifle bayonet, but i think it's a bit short to be 24 (that should have 30cm blade). If it is vz 33 bayonet there should be stamped FS or ČET and serial number.
I'm jealous!
Brownies dose not warranty their products sold thru Optics Planet
I'm building a 257 Bob on a M1922 Brazilian (FN) Mauser action.
Dang, must be nice to work in the country's largest gun store! Who's better than you?!👍😁
I once owned a Chilean Mauser essentially identical to this one. Cost me about $60 in the late 1980's. I subsequently "sporterized" it with a Bishop stock and Timney trigger. Forgive me. 😔
Chile please retire from using these rifles and dump them on the international milsurp market so all us collectors can find one too. lol
No threaded barrel? 👎
