American Airlines Business Class Review: Is it Worth the Extra Cost? | Uncut Travel by Alex

- I flew on American Airlines International Flagship Business Class on a 787 to Frankfurt and then back to Charlotte in a 777-200. In this American Airlines flight review, I will show you its flagship business class in both aircraft, and you can determine if it’s worth it to fly American Airlines International Business Class.
The seat comfort on both American Airlines flights, first in the 777 and then in the 787 aircraft, is very similar and quite comfortable. But American Airlines lags a little behind some other airlines when it comes to food. Overall, American is a world-class airline with a huge global network. In today's world, there is much competition in international airline travel; how do you think American compares?.

Nice trip report. I've flown their Business Class Internationally once, it was decent.
Pretty cool idea to share with us the entire round trip experience.
Solid review, I like the round-trip version you did, showing both aircraft.
Glad you enjoyed it, many thanks.
Agreed. Hit or miss with the service. But, I appreciate the layout of business class on American. A bit more privacy. Thanks for the video, well done.
Totally agree
You travel a lot and it seems like you really enjoy it. I love your videos!
Yes! Thank you!
Nice report. When in Frankfurt, why didn't you use the JAL Lounge? They also take AA Business class passengers.
Seats look really comfy, love your style. Well done.
Thanks so much!
Layout on American Airlines is superb. Just look at Lufthansa’s options. 2-2-2 configuration, no privacy at all. I take American over Lufthansa any day.
Agree on that, the layout in the 777 and 787 have some good privacy.
Good video Alex. You partially answered my question about the meal service. In nearly 60 years of first class and business class trans Atlantic flying, I have found the the catering in flights departing Europe has been far superior to that of flights departing the USA. (I have discussed that with flight attendants and they mostly have agreed.) The presentation, preparation and quality of European caterers seems much better. (I have sat in 1L on the 787-8 and found it to be a great seat.)
Yes, that is probably very true, however, there are some premium catering services in the U.S. too. It also depends on the carrier, their budget, etc. I would even say that it depends on the city.
@@UncutTravel I definitely agree that the departure city is important. I remember the days when each of the major carriers had their own catering services and had much more control on what was placed on board.
When flying out of Charlotte using American I never use any lounge other than the Centurion Lounge.
Makes sense. I honestly didn't even know that there was one in Charlotte. Thanks, for the tip.
I’m also surprised that you got a plastic cup in business. Whenever I sit in Flagship business or First Class I get glassware.
you are correct, that's how it usually is, but it wasn't in this case.
I think American Airlines is a great choice if you are an advantage member and use their perks. You can buy an economy class ticket and use either miles or system wide upgrades to fly business.
I agree, their loyalty program is excellent.
Thank you for this. I will be doing Business Class on the 787 and 777 in October.
I personally like the 777 much better, bigger plane, more comfortable, however, much older.
Out of all US airlines, American probably has the best business class.
Glad you think that. I have flown on Delta, which is quite nice, but never on United.
thanks for the video. maybe i missed it, but i would like to see how the two business class center seats allign with each other. I travel with my wife and it's nice to be able to easily chat with each other. some configurations (KLM) make it very difficult to speak to someone sitting next to you. BA has a retractable wall which allows for privacy or the ability to chat with your companion. Lufthansa is more open. As is Delta. How are the AA center seats?
I noticed your comment about the atmosphere in Charlotte and I have to agree, it is just horrible. However, their flagship lounges are top-notch.
I agree, the Flagship lounges are definitely top notch.
Food doesn’t look that bad, although I do understand that paying thousands of Dollars in business, one would expect a bit more.
Love your channel, any new hotel reviews.
Yes, a bunch coming up.
Thanks for posting this. We are less than 2 months from CLT to FRA and then FRA to DFW. BC over on a 777-200 and Premium Economy on a 787 back.
I just recently flew internationally with American again, and meals improved vastly. I spoke to a flight attendant and they told me that American is revamping their menus. That should be good news for you. Enjoy your flights.
If your compare business class on American to any other European or Asian airline, you will see that their business class is quite poor.
Well, I have done reviews on Lufthansa, Iberia TAP Portugal, Air France, KLM, not sure if I agree with you on this.
@@UncutTravel Fair enough! Maybe you are right :)
Qatar's is excellent . I'm about to fly AA business class for the first time
Sorry if I missed this part in your review. But did they provide an amenity kit on your long haul flight? TIA
In my opinion, you cannot compare American to European or Asian airlines; American needs a lot of improvement.
Excellent! I am booked on this flight in August in BC.
Are you flying in business?
@@tomphoem1200 we fly over in business and back in Premium Economy. Best value for both points and cash.
Glad you also good experience.
We spend too much on these seats for flight attendees to be rude and dismissive. I know everyone had bad days, but at work, you do your job and don't make your problem everyone else problem.
Very detailed and in-depth review, nicely done.
Thank you.
they never take catering to overseas because they don't have that much space they might use same catering company but never take with them and also I thin AA its much better than Lufthansa which semi low cost company even their business its not something special and still they use 2-2-2 configuration I think AA its better choice over United but poor choice over BA which is their partner :) next time make business class report with Delta and by the way I love that you show galley snacks keep doing that thank you.
Totally makes sense. I should have thought about that.
They do use the same catering contract. LSG Sky chef as the global contract with AA. Not only do they not have space to carry the food over, it wouldn't be food safety standards Given the duration of the flight over, the turn and then return flights. It would be sitting there for well over 15 hours
@robertgonzales3936 AA has a better seat configuration than Lufthansa 1-2-1 versus 2-2-2, but Lufthansa has much cleaner planes, far superior food and a friendlier staff. Did you know that they are redoing their entire business class?
@@sukanainc4851 not really yes for about 10 years they are showing new business class and till now nothing and LH catering its not something special either again Austrian yes its better than AA but LH is the worst european carriers on AA at least on domestic flights they give u can of coke and snack but on LH Europeans flights they dont give anything including water LH is semi low cost company now never liked them and will never use them
You are phenomenal ❤️ ✨️ ♥️ 💖
haha, thank you so much, so are you!
No they don't bring the food over. It's the same catering company at both ends in LSG Sky Chefs.
Yup, definitely, that was actually a pretty poor thought I had.
OK I just made up my mind not to fly AA but use Lufthansa aspecially since AA is about 400€ more than Lufthansa.
Thanks for posting. My wife and I are going to be flying American business class on a round trip this Christmas season to Frankfurt from Charlotte. We've flown to Frankfurt twice before but it was economy - something that I will never do again in life for a flight over 4 hours! Question: I chose for us on the flight the seats next to the window. This especially since my wife loves the window seat. Now, would you suggest the middle seats for couples, or the window seats?
I personally like the window seats much better because you have more privacy. If you do that, and you sit behind each other and want to talk, you would have to stand up and do so. So it really depends, privacy versus being together. But for sure the window seats are better in my opinion. Have fun and enjoy.
@@UncutTravel thanks. I’ll keep the seat choice the way it is. My wife will be behind me. She has her windows and I’ll have mine.
@@Pontiacman1964 Good choice. Here is a tip. If you want to sleep, In case you want to maximize your sleep, ask for express service. You will get your food faster and all at once. It saves you about 30 to 45 minutes. And if you plan on staying in Frankfurt, the renovated Westin Grand is pretty cool.
@@UncutTravel thanks again. Excellent advice. I will do that because our flight is an overnighter and that’s the main reason for choosing a lie- flat seat… so we can sleep.
As far as accommodations, our grandson’s mother insisted that we stay with them again. No argument there! That’s saving us quite a bit. I’ll subscribe to your channel. I appreciate your help.
@@Pontiacman1964 thank you and all the best.
why is it that everyone that tries to make a video on what it's like to fly business, always forgets to show the chair that a person will be sitting in? I would like to see just how private this seat is, and which seat out of all of them would have the most privacy.
@11:22 looks like cafeteria food, I would be disappointed too.
It's hit or miss, I actually had some great food in AA, depends on the route.
American Airlines is the second largest airline in the world, there is a reason for that. They may not have the best catering service, but maintenance is second to none. Asian and Middle East airlines may have good catering and customer service, but their maintenance safety is nowhere near U.S. standards. USA is #1, then Europe, Middle East and lastly Asia.
Thank you for your input, that is definitely possible.
Thank you. As an American citizen, I am quite embarrassed and ashamed by our airlines. The experience is always a hit or miss. I wish they would provide better training and also clean the restrooms better throughout the flight imo
Service on U.S. carriers is usually a hit and miss. Same with the food. Don’t know how much you paid but the Business class fares from London to New York are ridiculously high and certainly not good value for money.
Yes London is way to high. Lowest price business class fares are usually through Madrid or Barcelona.
I have flown American Flagship once, never again.
Sorry to hear that.
You're spot on with the service. Some of them give a shit... some don't. It's a shame :/ But at least it's a 50/50 i guess
I think most of the crew is friendly overall, people have bad days, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt.
@@UncutTravel prepadnemic tho? It was never like this…such a shame. I get times are much worse now…so I guess I shouldn’t expect much at all. I just hate that’s it one the only 3 we have here in the US. And since I live in DFW, it’s completely dominated by them. It was definitely worth it before 2020 but damn, wish it wasn’t a shitty experience half the time though 😭😭
@@odischeese21 well I live in Miami and it's also a major hub for American, so I obviously fly them a lot. When traveling overseas, especially Asia, I mostly use One World like Japan Airlines or Qatar.
Yeah international FA's on AA are very inconsistent. Some are great, some are not. Some of the worst crews I've had on AA were business and F crews were on the JFK-LHR route I took frequently. Mostly disgruntled senior crews. It's nice to see new blood coming into the ranks now after the pandemic. Not really because they are young but often have much better attitudes
It's the exact same catering from London to US, so I assume it's standard catering with LSG throughout? Do they have enough space in the gallery to store catering of roundtrips for all the passengers? That'd be the only reason I assume they wouldn't.
Also, might be a better idea to connect through DFW with access to flagship lounge while connecting, and maybe better chance for better crew (legacy AA crew versus ex-US Airways from Charlotte)
Ah very interesting about your crew comment. In this particular case, the price paid a big role. Flight via DFW was considerably higher.
@@UncutTravel I've had countless long hauls and premium transcons on AA, and honestly the crew have been fantastic most of the time into or out from JFK, LAX, and DFW, and seldomly mediocre but not bad. MIA is just the other way around for some reason, occasionally you get a great crew but most times just so so, sometimes just bad. But then again when the Miami crew is great they can be fantastic with Latin warmth and hospitality.
@@jiangni2236 Very good point. I am getting ready to book another flight shortly, will definitely keep this in mind and try to fly via DFW. Thanks for the great tips. Will let you know how it goes.
It is LSG. It's their global provider and no they don't store the food on such trips. It's caterted on departure point.
Sad that our great country can’t compare to great service that you will find in Asia, that’s because the only thing our airlines are thinking about is how to make more and more money.
:😂
Catering is done at each departure point. American utilizes the same standards (below average) at all their origination points.
Got it, thanks.
It's the same catering company. AA defiantly has better catering standards than UA on international flights.
The food in business on AA leaves much to be desired.
How clean is it? Did you notice stains, trash or crumbs?
No trash or crumbs, nice and clean.
Frankfurt is not an important destination for American due to Lufthansa’s strong hold, flying to many US cities. Try them next time.
Makes sense.
Next time can you show us the cockpit?
I will definitely try.
I would love to see the cockpit as well.
Wow the lounge in Charlotte looks awful, but then again, the airport is overcrowded at all times.
That's true, Charlotte is just too crazy.
Yeah I personally try and avoid CLT. It's was never built to handle the volume it does now and it shows.
I don’t understand why anyone would waste money to fly in business class for seven or eight hours. It’s incomprehensible to me to spend thousand of Dollars for a few hours of extra comfort.
There are some people that can afford it and they like to be comfortable, often time, if you have a certain status with the airline, you can get upgraded without having to pay.
points and upgrades, sometimes you can get a really good rate. 4 hours or longer is where i usually debate on if i want to upgrade although haven't yet done AA business yet.
As you say, average!
If she was nice, that’s unusual for AA
But it sure beats Lufthansa in my experience.
Every experience is different, but I think Lufthansa is a great airline.
No way, cannot even compare. Lufthansa is way superior.
I have flown American , Delta and United and by far American is best. United was the WORST in food and service
Food in American was not very good, I can imagine how United must be.
I noticed you commented about the lack of a reason given for your delay departing the United States.. US airlines struggle immensely with communication. What little communication that is offered is not genuine and is scripted. This is such an easy area for management to improve, but no US carriers seem to even recognize poor communication as a problem. Their planes are full of angry, frustrated passengers, yet their communication is seriously deficient.
Admirals Club suck, and Flagship can only be visited on long-haul international flights. If you compare AA’s lounges to any carrier in Europe or Asia, it’s an absolute embarrassment, not to mention their less-than-courteous staff.
Thank you for your input.
The food in American is horrible. If you think about it though, any airplane food is processed for extreme conditions. Nothing nutritious when you eat airplane food.
You have a good point there.
Being late, is AA motto
American airlines food for business is definately one of the worse...
American Airlines is terrible, I much prefer Delta.
Everyone definitely has their own experiences and preferences.
American has some of the rudest flight attendants in the industry. Zero customer service.
Nice review of a terrible airline.
Thanks!
Lose the shit music
Sorry it doesn't please you, surely you have volume control on your device :)
I hate Frankfurt airport,in fact i will never visit Germany again if i have to fly..I flew before the plandemic from MCO to FRA on Lufthansa 747 and then to FRA-DEL on A380.....Customs and immigration was a nightmare and the security worst..I have been flying for over 50 years and has been around the world a cpl times...One security officer even asked me if my dive watch(A Citizen Aqualand dive watch with depth meter) was real...i asked if he has a fake one..what an idiot..Since anyone can buy a day pass at most lounges, they are being packed, especially at rush times...That's the reason i fly United Polaris and use their Polaris Lounge at IAD when flying International...
Yes, Frankfurt can be a mess. I just flew a few weeks ago on Singapore Airlines from Frankfurt to JFK and everything was extremely smooth. I guess it's hit an miss. Lounge was Lufthansa Senator lounge and it was empty, I guess I got lucky this time.
