I really want a Yooka-Laylee 2 that fixes it to be more like Banjo-Kazooie when it comes to controls (movement was slippery in YL) and collectible placements actually meaning something
I didn't think the original YL was as bad as many reviewers seemed you think, but still I love 2d platformers, so I'm happy to hear that this is a great game.

I’m so happy to see this game getting a positive critical reception. Yooka-Laylee was flawed for sure, but I loved the character design and thought a lot of the problems ended up getting fixed through patches resulting in a pretty enjoyable experience. It would’ve been a shame to see a team that clearly had such passion get shut down because of a few bad missteps at the very beginning. I’m really looking forward to where this goes
It also borrows the fun factor of how you collect feathers in a bunch a little more from the 2010 Rayman games! E.g feather paths in arcs and vine sliding paths!
So they decided to take a step back while also learning from other modern game developers? Excellent, a lot of the confidence in them I had lost is now back.
Since the game is made by some of the OG DKC creators, it's no wonder it stands up to Tropical Freeze. I'm giving it a try cause I'm in need of a great platfomer.
The best 2D platforming experience I've had since Tropical Freeze is Celeste Anyway, I'm really looking forward for this game as I'm one of the very few gamers who enjoyed the first game, BUT I have to admit that I played it after it got all its patches for fixes, including the camera issues
This game blew me away, was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. But I picked it up after the devs said it's a spiritual successor to DKC, and they weren't wrong. I was initially put off by how similar it looked to DKCTF, but this game went above and beyond where DKCTF didn't imo. I loved the overworld puzzles, the platforming itself, coin collecting, the music, and the CLASSIC Rare charm. This game has way more charm and personality than DKCTF no question about it. The way you open up the map, the way the final boss is handled, and so many more reasons all make this game a 10/10, one of the best games I've played in years.
While yooka laylee's first outing wasnt grand i wouldnt ever say it was a bad game and write it off. and i feel too many people are dismissing it just to say they found there footing. but we have no idea if they plan to do more 2D games or if the next game will be 3D again. you cant have footing based on that. we need more patience. Yooka laylee was a great base to build up for greater things. and thats shown here as they were able to take a different approach with the second game and succeed.
I’m just happy that Playtonic’s still kicking after the mixed reception Yooka Laylee got. Here’s hoping their next game is a collectathon tour-de-force.
That sounds awesome Andre. I happy to hear that Playtonic did a great job because I would love to get more games in the future. By the way I absolutely love the main theme.
Mh... the fact that this game is far better received than its predecessor leaves me to think about: maybe after rejoining together after such a long time, the former Rare employees just needed their time to pull everything together before working well again, and they needed time to do such thing. The first Yooka Laylee was quite a rocky start, but the fact that this 2d entry is way better, makes me think that Playtonic AKA the TRUE Rare will gradually regain its edge and return to its former glory with the time. If that's the case then I'm totally cool with that. It's true what they say: the best things always come when you don't expect them. :D
I just bought this but haven't played yet, I'm playing Crash 4 right now. These graphics look great 10/10 for me. Gameplay looks solid too. Oh, I also have Tropical Freeze

So they decided to take a step back while also learning from other modern game developers? Excellent, a lot of the confidence in them I had lost is now back.
Damn I though he would go with a “loved it”. Andre is a hard sell lol!
If only they would have ripped off the feel of banjo the way they did tropical freeze
enjoyed every second of this lovely game, and it's def. on pair with dkc tf. thanks playtonic, i hope u will be satisifed with the sales.
The way he talked, I thought it'd be a "Loved it"
Not a perfect soundtrack
Didn't even know this game was coming out this week! But definitely getting it when it goes on sale on black Friday in November.
Who has time for the endless beautiful games out there? We need to live longer
Since the game is made by some of the OG DKC creators, it's no wonder it stands up to Tropical Freeze. I'm giving it a try cause I'm in need of a great platfomer.
Alright. I'm interested now. :D
Thanks for this awesome review!
The best 2D platforming experience I've had since Tropical Freeze is Celeste
Anyway, I'm really looking forward for this game as I'm one of the very few gamers who enjoyed the first game, BUT I have to admit that I played it after it got all its patches for fixes, including the camera issues
Ima go buy this game now
I am SO glad that this team didn't just let Yooka-Laylee die after a bit of a rocky first game. They stuck with it and made a comeback with this game.
As much as I love this game I still want a yooka-laylee and banjo-kazooie mashup.
Any game with a bat on your side gets my instant approval! And it’s similar in both quality and gameplay to Tropical Freeze? Sign me right up!
Oh wow. It fell under my radar but now I am definitely getting it
Plus the drifting joycon would be an extra challenge x.X
I'm not a huge fan of the visual design, but the gameplay looks great enough to keep me interested.
Can you use the D-pad or is it just the analog stick?
Dpad works!
Awesome, thanks for the response!
Excuse me!
WAS THAT A FREAKIN' BEE PUN AT 8:03 ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
You'd better bee-lieve it!
(There's another just a few seconds later that I don't think anyone's caught yet lol)
@@GameXplain wait... WHAAAAT!? GAMEXPLAIN REPLIED TO ME AND THERE'S STILL JUST ONE LIKE ON MY COMMENT!?!?!??!?!?!?!! what is the world coming to
That sounds awesome Andre. I happy to hear that Playtonic did a great job because I would love to get more games in the future. By the way I absolutely love the main theme.
What a plesant surprise, i wasn't impressed by the trailers but this actually looke better than the 1st game
Mh... the fact that this game is far better received than its predecessor leaves me to think about: maybe after rejoining together after such a long time, the former Rare employees just needed their time to pull everything together before working well again, and they needed time to do such thing. :D
Come on! The whole review makes it sound like it should be a Loved! Give Yooka-Laylee some love! (Awesome review, btw. Definitely-ish buying)
I just bought this but haven't played yet, I'm playing Crash 4 right now.
These graphics look great 10/10 for me. Gameplay looks solid too. Oh, I also have Tropical Freeze
Nice review, I might give this a try at some point!
