- This is Promotion Mario Bros., a Romhack collectively made by 18 different authors! You need to collect 3 coins and then you'll have a chance to go to the final room. But getting even a single coin in the other 21 rooms can be quite challenging...

There’s two different objects for red koopas. One walks off ledges and the other doesn’t

Hey, Kosmic. You inspired me to try to run Mario. It was my first game ever back in 1988 and haven’t played it in probably at least 3 decades. I tried for about a week and just hit a 5:28. I QUIT! Lol. My goal was 5:30 and my best splits had me at about 5:18 but I’m comfortable with where I got. On to see if I can get a 10:00 in SMB2.

If you were wondering about the red koopas running off platforms, there are red koopas built into the game that can run off of platforms, they are just not used in smb1. Kind of like the ropes in that it is an unused asset.
Wonder why 2J didn't use it?
actually they are in the game.. when a red koopa troopa is demoted to plain red koopa they will walk off ledges
@@trik0me Is there any instance where red koopas by themselves spawn being able to walk off of platforms, or does it always take player influence? I'm curious now.
@@Lamoosa All the koopas that start out walking are enemy ID #3, while demoted red koopa paratroopas are enemy ID #1. I'm not sure exactly why they didn't just make enemy ID #1 the walking koopas and use them for the demoted koopas. In World 1-3 there is an area where a red koopa paratroopa is over ground and you can see them walk off a ledge if you demote them to a walking koopa

I guess, that most of the rooms are not really supposed to be played, except if you are a masochist! That's why they start with an exit pipe. :)

Randomizers and rng are really enjoyable to me for some reason, sometimes also in skill based games, it's hard to explain but when you get that good rng in a speedrun or a very very tough game it's so satisfying
There is a similar hack called 'SMB Medley' available at the usual places. I think you might like it.

I liked incorporating different glitched tech into the run as (presumably) the intended solution. If only it could work consistently and weren't an absolute nightmare to pull off.
Jus because of how simple it is, I think smb is one of the coolest games to randomize

@@alimorad3919 In this game, I don't know. I just saw on the start menu it looked like there was a Luigi option. Traditionally Luigi can jump a block higher than Mario, but has worse traction which makes him feel slippery.

Interesting hack. I love how you try to play without save states and initially even without cheese, but also know when to give up and find a different way to beat the hack.

Did some of the creators even playtest their level(s)? Some of the levels feel like they just put stuff together that looked like it was possible but never attempted to see if it was actually possible lol. Just makes me confused how this is such a common theme with decent looking romhacks, which definitely had a lot of effort behind them. A lot of them never seem to take that one last step just to playtest it once to check if it's actually playable.
Well, this is certainly a romhack from 2004, when the concept of difficulty in romhacks was not that well thought out

You have to do a quick tap in the direction away from the wall- enough that you're moving away from it (that's what allows you to clip) but not so much that you go too far from it
