From what I've seen, these can generally be had pretty inexpensively if you keep an eye out on places like Cragslist and Facebook Marketplace. I wasn't intending to buy this one, but it came in a group of motors from gentleman who was trying to free up room in his shop.
These are good engines. I have a video of one running on my channel. Most repair parts like fuel pumps, water pumps, condensers and points are still available under Chrysler/ Force parts. The best way to remove these flywheels is to pry up on them and whack the crankshaft with the nut flush on the top.
Thank you for the reply, and the info! I would love to restore this engine, but I have so much going on at the moment, I'm not even able to get videos out as I would like. I'm currently finishing up my writing my dissertation for my PhD, so with luck I'll have a lot more free time (and "real" job) in the near future. Thanks again!
@@joshuagugenheim1810 it is a little tricky to get the first time, but you can get it by lifting up on the flywheel with your hand and whacking the end of the crankshaft with the nut on flush with a brass hammer.
I actually got this motor as part of a group of 4 boat motors I found on Craigslist when I was looking for a motor to re-power an aluminum boat I have. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck in your quest for a green on green one though!
@@TheAfterWorkGarage I have one of these engines also, it seems either the throttle handle is stuck or I just don't know how to operate it, already started taking some of the linkage apart camas motor fires a little bit but not enough to altogether turn over yet. I'll post the video
@@TheAfterWorkGarage Thanks for your post. Really appreciate your videos. As I just wrote below, I recently acquired one of these Elgin motors…same model 1959 12HP. I’m having issues getting motor to start. Able to pull the starter rope without issue. Not seized as your video described. I think I’m having issues with fuel making it’s way to the cylinders. Replaced spark plugs and fuel is making its way through to the carburetor. About to replace the spark plug lines just to be sure, as they are quite degraded. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your help ahead of time. Josh
Neat looking outboard hope I find one some day

Any one else have issues pulling off flywheel? Due to holes not being threaded…

Are you interested in selling any parts?
I really haven't been selling any parts or engines, but what would you be interested in?
