An antique/magneto driven engine guru said that if your ever turning over an engine with a magneto, ground the output, as that energy needs to go somewhere. If you operate an ungrounded magneto, it stands the chance of developing inter-winding faults, the high voltage side can punch through the enamel insulation layer to layer, leading to unreliability and breakdown further down the track. Not really super important in this case, but just interesting to keep in mind when working on such things.
I reckon you'd have no trouble picking up parts, and I also think that those old two bangers in good nick will be worth hanging on to.
All the best, and thanks for the ongoing content.

Well, you can at least say that you got it running! The condition of the thing isn't your fault but you can rest assured that you discovered it's limitations and did it all in the garage, instead of in the boat out in the water somewhere! LOL I was entertained, and I think I can say that others were as well. Now you can gift it forward to someone else who has either the means or the inclination to make it run quietly and smoothly, there's always someone out there who has a bunch of old parts sitting somewhere that could be put to use to make it run close to speck. But remember it IS an Evinrude so it's not going to run exactly quiet. Fun video mate, see you next week! Cheers!

I have a Suzuki 5hp you're welcome to have, but it's down south (Batemans Bay). Needs some work too (runs ok but cooling water isn't getting through the passages in the engine, so the exhaust plate needs to come off at a minimum, maybe more). Let me know if you're ever down this way.

That particular engine had over heating issues due to blocked cooling passenger in the block and head.
