    Late to the party on this one and I can see the issues you had but also some you are still having and may have missed. Eaton blowers were good for boost on Petrol as they are just that, petrol and rarely run at WOT. The ZD30 on the other hand is a 16-valve air pump that moves air pretty good (still a lot of room for improvement, especially on the intake manifold) and being a diesel, they are ALWAYS running WOT. The first is to get rid of those aweful autoflop guages, their display is junk, get some decent analog needlers in there to see whats really going on. Secondly, make sure the idle bypass valve is jammed shut and no pushing open which is needed for the spark needers. You found the issue near end that the drive was slipping on the shaft, TIG fixes a lot. I did notice the lobes and housing were showing a lot of wear and will be killing some performance, certainly no teflon lobe seals. Aftercooling, yeah, didn't see what was in there or the plumbing but these thrashers do just that, thrash and they make a lot of heat. A good trick with blowers is water injection PRIOR to the rotors there in the inlet port. This helps keep the lot a heap cooler and also helps a little with the lobe sealing. If you take option of a little meth as well, now you are adding some oxygen bearing fuel to the gang-bang. Although, I would run water only on the blower feed, keep the 50/50 W-M for spraying around the last rubber coupling on the intake plenum. Moving from the 150mm drive pulley to a 200mm will give some extra spin but so would ditching the alley driven pulley to a smaller steel sucker. 150mm @ 4000RPM into a 60mm is 10K RPM on the blower. just changing the blower driven pulley to steel and 50mm will see the blower now spin at 12K RPM. As there are guys pushing these to over 18K, moving to a 200mm bottom, 50mm top will see 16K on the blower @ 4000RPM engine and 17,600RPM @ 4,400RPM redline. Just for a rough bit of maths, I figure you are getting around 1PSI per Rev. The water spray will see you better on the rollers. Ultimately, a big-flow snail pushing into the blower will see the clutch smoke. Of, BTW, don't waste your time with bloody Dawees/tillux crap, use a boost actuator for smooth, easy control if a snail comes back.

      Dad purchased the vehicle with a blow engine. The turbo failure was the issue we were trying to find a solution to. The current engine ( after the rebuild) has over 80k on it now and still happy but the turbos still seem to be somewhat of an issue.

    Found this really interesting mate but yeh diesel and supercharger doesn’t really go together. Interestingly you would need more boost than you ran from the turbo to achieve the same power at the wheels due to power losses from running the blower itself.

    You've used a way to smaller supercharger by a long way it's just simple volumemetric math and I can see other things that that engine wouldn't like with regard to load I'll put money that the nose of the crank wouldn't be happy with the stresses if there was a bigger supercharger as a soul sauce of boost but have you thought of sizing the supercharger bigger and running a turbo? I've seen a few channels do this with good results, Desiel Pump UK has just done a video with a OM606 with a supercharger and turbo charger and I've seen a few channels in the US do it with good results but thing's need to match up in regards the purpose like having a supercharger that is volumemetricly up to the job and then the larger turbo can take over in its efficiency range

    Question! Why does the 6.5 Detroit V8 swap seem to be somewhat common with LandCruiser and Patrol guys? Out of all the American diesel V8s these are usually considered one of the less desirable ones, I personally like the engine but am curious what makes them desirable to guys like you.

    Hey mate, couple of things, audio was left channel only for a lot of video, stereo at 30 minutes, fell back to left soon after. The fuel lift pump, it's a Carter and you have it upside down. There is an arrow on it for a reason. The cable sizes, for batteries in rear and big starters, 0-AWG would be on the positive and same for the negative till at least the chassis bond then 1 or 2-AWG from there. Go to starter post then from the starter, use 4-AWG at least. Don't fall for BS claims of welding cable currents. Love the very valid reasoning for the snorkel sides, no LC love here.

  • @SternLX
    @SternLX 2 месяца назад

    Worked over 4 M90's over the last 8 years. The Air Leakage Ports, good call on actually welding them closed. For those considering it, DO NOT JB Weld or Epoxy those closed. It will not hold. The air bouncing back from the plenum below the supercharger is supersonic! It will blow those Air Leakage Ports open if you did anything less than Weld them shut properly. Umm let's what else... the interior of the rotor housing. Polishing is all you need to do. Remove as little material as possible or you risk destroying the efficiency of the pumping action(remember, the Air is pumped along the inside of the casing, not between the rotors like a Twin Screw style). Opening the intake side up is where you will see the biggest gains. The output side... if you go to big on that triangle, again it can ruin pumping efficiency and you end up swinging the other way and loose output velocity and CFM. There's a balance between the rotors and the output opening. Eaton engineers nearly got it perfect. But because these were meant for street use they had to factor in NVH and fuel efficiency.

In the "unseizing" video you broke the pin that every one brakes if they don't know about it. The pin is for keeping the lower cranck seal spring in tension. If I spin it faster it will indeed produce more air but you start to push the rotors past the point of there efficiency and that just creates heat. Unfortunately the only way forward if I wanted to keep with the charger would have been to get a physically large unit.

    Nice build, couple of sugestions, VDO (& you'll probably find copies online) a pulse converter that can go in line with your tach signal wire to "tune" the orig black & white tacho to the engine. Secondly, ditch the orig alternator, fit an electric vac pump (getting more common in the performance area), then you can run a lot higher output alternator without factoring in the requirement for an engine driven pump!
