    I've always wanted to do a compound set up. Feed the supercharger with boost from a turbo.

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  11 месяцев назад

      It would of been cool on this build but the plumbing work have been a big job

    • @aussiebevo103
      @aussiebevo103 6 месяцев назад

      Typically people have the blower feed the turbo's as the blower is ready from the get go.

  • @michaelnelson912

    I put a 3" exhaust on my 200 series landcruiser from the turbos back, with no mufflers or anything - it sounded a bit like this... so loud every head would turn, no matter how lightly you used the throttle! I had to add a muffler to make it drivable in public!
    Why did the boost max out? Could it be belt slip? I would have assumed a supercharger would keep climbing in boost as the revs go up, but I have no experience with them.

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  Год назад

      Hi mate, yeah sometimes lowder isn't always better. We did have a small amount of belt slip but that's not the main issue. As the rpm of the engine goes up so does the rpm of the charger so in theory your correct in saying the boost should also climb how as the rpm increases so does the amount of air the engine needs. So it actually works that the more rpm the engine and charge spin the boost level actually stays the same. Hopefully that makes sense.

    Nick work. I'd say supercharger is only keeping up with engine cfm , will supercharger speed pump more air .😊

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  7 месяцев назад +1

      If I spin it faster it will indeed produce more air but you start to push the rotors past the point of there efficiency and that just creates heat. Unfortunately the only way forward if I wanted to keep with the charger would have been to get a physically large unit.

  • @gardeningfishingjimw9364
    @gardeningfishingjimw9364 Год назад +1

    Tim, As you say the pulleys need to be redone somehow. I am thinking the bottom pulley being larger would work better; that way no mods are needed up the charger end so you don't lose the strength. Airflow with a different airbox and snorkel could make that other difference
    And yeh.... you need a damm good muffler!!

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  Год назад

      Thanks Jim, I have ordered a larger diameter round of alloy to remake the lower pulley after all the port work is done. Also hane a new triple pass baffled muffler to install so fingers crossed that shuts it up a bit. Not too stressed about the airbox yet as the pod filter is probably the less restrictive of almost anything I can make with a snorkel.

    • @joelnagle2214
      @joelnagle2214 Год назад

      Great episode I really enjoyed and it made me smile 👍🏻 you say you wanted more boost right. I would think that having a larger lower pulley would make less boost. Are you hoping that the charger mods will increase air flow and that way you will be able to run a larger bottom pulley. I'm sure all will be explained in the next one 🙂 great to see you experimenting.

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  Год назад +1

      @@joelnagle2214 thanks mate. A larger bottom pulley will turn the top pulley faster for a given rpm so should make more boost. I'm hoping that removing the restrictions in the blower will allow it to move more air for a given rpm so hopefully increase the boost but again that's all guess work at this point.

    The blower. Seems that there are too many variables. Engine configuration , flow, rpm. Etc so horses & hand grenades i.e. close enough. Diesels don't spin. Can it be leak tested?

      @moosenbeans903 Год назад

      @HarpersShed ok I tend to start typing mid sentence. You thought it would make more boost. But I don't see how it can be benchmarked i.e. this many lbs at this many rpm. There are to many parameters. If you were using a set up commonly used then yes but. Sorry Mr whomever. Guess I need to type slower for you.

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  4 месяца назад

      Dad purchased the vehicle with a blow engine. The turbo failure was the issue we were trying to find a solution to. The current engine ( after the rebuild) has over 80k on it now and still happy but the turbos still seem to be somewhat of an issue.
