Here's the answer to your question. At the beginning of the film the engineers create humans. Then they go to the planet the film mostly takes place on and they try and create life again. This doesn't work out and the creations nearly wipe everybody on the engineers crew out. The reason why they want to go back to Earth is because they failed on this planet and they think they also failed on Earth. So the engineers new plan is to destroy their creations because they think every one of their creations is an abomination. At least that's how I interpret it.
I do genuinely love the addition of The Engineers to the lore, they’re essentially gods who create life throughout the universe and also wipe it out if that life is deemed too dangerous to allow to exist. And the idea that Engineers created a mutagen or “Pathogen” as its called by Weyland-Yutani in the video game *Aliens: Fireteam Elite* as a way to wipeout life that they created on a planet as essentially a clean slate, but just like with humans created bio weapons it got out of their control. There’s also a scene in the original script that showed that the last engineer has a full conversation with David, Shaw, and Weyland. Explaining that they wanted to wipe out humanity because they were deemed far too dangerous to allow to exist in the galaxy. They visited humanity when they were after their most violent and actually invited a human to live with them briefly , so that when he would come back to earth, he would explain that they needed to become less hostile and treat each other better. However, they wound up killing him. And it’s implied that that person was Jesus Christ, which does fit the timeline because the decapitated body was over 2000 years old. And that was what pushed them to try and go forward with wiping out humanity.
Thank you. I never knew exactly why they disapproved of humans but I had my own theories. I felt like they resented how violent and resilient humans were and foresaw them overtaking them. Then homie showed up with the pathogen but the humans survived! They couldn't be killed off! Which caught the attention of the Predators who also foresaw humans as superior and started doing their best to evolve faster. But I was wrong lol thanks
Michael Fassbender was phenomenal in this movie. The reason David is the way he is is because he’s constantly trying to learn, trying to push the boundaries of science. But he was not given any human morals or ethics when he was created. Because his creator Peter Weyland, an all powerful psychopath with a god complex himself, never saw any use in morals or having any kind of conscience. So David isn’t evil, he’s just never been taught about ethics and how important they are. Also anyone reading this should look up the TED Talk video for Prometheus that was originally supposed to be the opening scene of the movie but it’s on RUclips now. It shows Peter Weyland as a young man giving a truly hypnotic 6 minute speech giving the history of human technology all the way to the future and saying that humans are gods now. It really should’ve been in the final movie but look it up for yourselves.
Thank you for this comment on The Media Knights yesterday 😅 i went and watched that video and it was great! Also saw the commercial for David 8, which was a trip.
I liked the scene where David points out that God created man and God cannot die but man can. Man creates David and David cannot die but his creator, man, can. I always thought David was megalomaniac because he sees himself as a perfect being, a god and is disgusted that he was created by something inferior. And as a god he wants create his own but lacks true creativity like God and man has, which is why he dissects Shaw (in Covenant). His lack of creativity causes him to make a "perfect" organism, which is of course a monster.

Great intro Aaron and Tara! I think this movie is underrated. Nowhere near as terrible as people say. It’s not the best in the franchise, but it’s not terrible.
It's not a bad movie by any means, it just completely ruins the magic of the unknown around the xenomorph. And Alien: Covenant is the final kick in the head when it's down, by making the xenomorph a human creation via android proxy. Never explain the origin of a monster, you make it less scary by doing do. This should be left to one's own imagination at all times. And if you absolutely have to, don't go the absolutely silliest route imaginable like Alien: Covenant did. By the way ... also a great sci-fi horror movie, but absolutely terrible as an Alien movie.
A lot of ppl think Elizabeth’s faith was broken, but seeing the Engineers actually reaffirmed her faith and belief in God. Knowing there’s still life in the universe even beyond the Engineers gives her enough faith and belief in God that she’ll find it.
The scene where Vickers and Shaw run away from the rolling Juggernaut always gets so much criticism, but if they were to run on either side of it, they risk getting struck by the chunks of fiery Prometheus debris raining down like hail on either side.
FUN LITTLE FACT about the script! In reference to the scene where they carbon date the body and they say "2000 years, give or take". There was a scrapped section of the script for this movie that revealed that the Engineers sent down one of their own to try to stop humans from fighting among themselves. Humans, being humans, crucified this emissary. And because of that the Engineers decided that we didn't deserve to continue living, we were too violent of a species. Yes, they were going to reveal that Jesus was an engineer lol But Ridley said that would have been too on the nose.
The scene where the ship is falling down - loads of people are like "I dont know why they just arent running to the side?!". At that moment when something is so incredibly huge, the instinct of your body is just to "get away". We as the audience have an aerial view, the characters do not. They dont know which way it COULD fall. So they just "run away" in a sense their body makes them run.
The Alien ship in this movie is the same as the one in the first Alien movie. Remember that big alien they discovered in the first movie in the chair? That was an engineer.
The creator ship is, if it is not the same, at least identical to the ship from Alien where the eggs lay. Also recognizable in Alien by the oversized chair.
the deleted scene and script delves in deeper on why the Engineer acted the way he did in the end, completely justifies himself instead of what we got: an angry alien killing everyone.
Idk man a lot of folks hate this movie, but I really enjoyed it. And tbh, I seriously had no idea it was a part of the Alien franchise until the very end with the giant face hugger. Then it was solidified when I saw the xenomorph.

A lot of people hate on this movie for character decisions and also the advanced tech, even though this happens before Alien. Hey, in life, people make questionable decisions, especially in high stress situations. As far as the tech goes, The Prometheus is an elite, advanced science vessel for the upper class. Weyland himself is on the ship as well as his daughter. It's the Rolls Royce of Space Vessels. The Nostromo from Alien was basically an 18 Wheeler Tractor Trailer Truck bringing back ore that they were mining on other planets. The tech is still fancy but lower in quality compared to Prometheus.
How to be a reaction channel: Step 1: tell people you havent seen it before Step 2: If you have seen it before convince the audience you cant remember it
Love this movie. The fact that you want more is what the whole movie is about. Why did the engineers make & why did they want us dead… the sequel leaves more questions I can’t wait till u watch covenant
Prometheus gets too much hate. This was the first Alien movie I saw and I was one of the few people who seemed to really enjoy it when it was released.
Also, the opening shot with the Engineer was on Earth, implying that the death of the Engineer, his DNA mutated by whatever he consumed, was the source for life on Earth; us in particular.
@@CZJames20 Not when you see the resurrection of a dead actor and then it turns into a fan film with unnecessary callback lines that don’t work at all. The Aliens one is egregious which feels like a 4th wall break and the Alien one is very bad. You don’t care about any of the characters except for 2 with Rain and Andy. The gravity sequence at the end is cool, but the ending itself being a combination of Prometheus and Alien: Resurrection stinks. It is not a movie that works on its own and is an unnecessary secret sequel to Alien: Covenant. You can see the moment when Ridley Scott’s influence kicks in which makes it so much worse.
Prometheus is a beautiful sci-fi film. That being said I didn't care for the origins of Xenomorphs (and Human Beings). It was better left unsaid and not explained. You remove the mystery, You reveal the wizard ("Wizard of Oz"). Leads to disappointment. Romulus>Prometheus imo
@@DanV900 I would argue the movie works the best on it´s own since you yourself is mainly complaining about the callbacks and Rook from the previous films. People seeing this as their 1st Alien film won´t have any of those problems. Plus I´m a huge Alien fan and besides the unnecassary Aliens Ripley line callback, I didn´t mind any of it and Rook was great I thought, I was bracing myself for much worse the way people were describing the CGI- it was actually an animatronic with touches of CGI, it worked for me. I just had a great time with it. Also loved the offspring design, creepy MF.
Ridley Scott intended this to be a spin-off in the Alien universe rather than a direct prequel to Alien but due to the criticism on the lack of Alien references since audiences then expected a prequel, the studio pushed him to include more Xenomorphs in the next one and had to rewrite most of the storyline he originally intended for Elizabeth Shaw, David and the engineers, wich also why the next one goes back to the title of "Alien" instead of Prometheus 2. You guys probably will realize what i'm talking about when you see it.
I’ve been watching all of the alien movies in the past week leading up to me going to see romulus in theatres, and then yesterday I discovered that you guys were also watching them all recently. the vids have been great guys keep it up 🙌🏻
Rewatching this made me realize this wasnt as bad as i originally thought, its still not great like Alien and Aliens, but better than 3 and Resurrection.
Logan Marshall Green appeared in Spiderman: Homecoming where he gets vaporized by Adrian Toomes. Sean Harris was the antagonist in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Fallout. Idris Alba of course Heimdall in Thor film series, Infinity War. Also shared scenes with Nicholas Cage in Ghost Rider sequel. Noomi Rapace as the Gypsy in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3 Charlize Theron as Clea in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness who is yet to make another appearance. Michael Fassbender as Magneto in the X-Men films under 20th Century Fox umbrella. Benedict Wong appearing as well before becoming Wong in the MCU.
Its a movie that has gotten better over time. I watched this film in cinema when It was released. Looked great but didn't understand what was happening. The Blu Ray really turned it around for me - a lot of the deleted scenes and supplementary material released before the movie explains a lot of things explicitly instead of how its left ambiguous in the actual film.
Prometheus is so underrated Blows away alien romulus BTW that map scene in 3d IMAX was BEYOND mesmerizing And fassbender was brilliant. I'll never understand the hate. The effects and CGI were brilliant. The story was great. It wasn't sons rehashed story. Imo it's the second best film in the series. BTW they did find our creators. The engineers created us. Very beginning of the movie.
The film hinted (and backed up by the deleted scenes) that it was the crucifixion of Christ that made the engineers want to wipe out man. The fact that it was 2000 years ago was a big hint. The deleted scene had the engineer reference Christ (a mother and son that was brought to their planet to be shown how to teach humans how to behave but was killed by humans), filmmakers were concerned it would cause a backlash as that would claim Christ had no divinity.

Fun Fact: When this came out, nobody knew if this was Alien related, there were some theories, but that. So we only knew that it was a Ridley Scott movie. So.. it was a nice reveal!
I love Aaron, and even when this film was coming out, it was widely known it was a part of the Alien franchise, but could you guys imagine the pop from Tara had she just happened to come across the xenomorph on her own the first time she saw it instead of him clueing her in on it? And it also skewed her perspective bc, then, she was constantly speculating about what Alien things were going to happen throughout instead.
After Aliens, this is my favorite Alienverse movie. It’s so unique and refreshing (esp bec the reveal was awesome) and I love how they expanded the universe by introducing those terrifying gigantic beings.
David executed Mr Weyland's program. When Weyland died, David became autonomous. This laid the groundwork for his actions/behaviors in Covenant. Great reaction.
Omg 😱 YES! It absolutely looks like Handsome Squidward! Believe it or not, I legitimately said the same damn thing when I was trying to explain the movie to my boyfriend after me and my friend got home after watching it in theaters ffs! 😂👍😉
I was always confused why Dr Shaw thought the aliens changed their minds about destroying humanity. From what we saw, the alien plan was going well until the bio weapon they were making “got out” and they all died. The alien they work up immediately wanted to finish that mission of destruction.
It’s crazy when you deep dive into the engineers story fromRidley. In this universe, Jesus was an engineer and is the reason they want us dead. He was their final emissary to try and put us back on the right path and we killed him. When you see it like this, who else of the people we believed to be gods through out our multi cultural history could have been an engineer in this universe. Krishna, Izanagi and Izanami, etc. Just gets the brain moving. I love lore.
Fassbender's David was such a strong character and performance that it overshadowed Rapace's Shaw, who I also felt was the Ripley stand in. That lower key position just felt secondary. I don't remember if that changes in the next film. Liked the overall design and lore of this very much though!
I LOVED this movie when it released, but i didnt come in with expectations. Even if it doesnt answer anything questioned before, it was a good addition to the Alien universe.
I had the same experience as Aaron: I distinctly remember watching this at a friend’s house the year it came out and remembered nothing but Charlize Theron getting squashed by the ship! Wild how that goes… and I recently rewatched 🎉
Important notes: - The engineer at the start is there to start (or speed up?) life in the planet, sacrificing himself as part of their team/group as part of their process. The liquid he drank broke him down to a molecular level so it would then blend with the elements already in the water. - There is a very good reason why this movie is just called Prometheus: it's a stand alone movie, it's not really an Alien movie, it's more like a movie in the same universe as the Alien franchise. - The hookup scene had the purpose of letting us know about both characters, and to further the idea that several might already have "Is Vickers a robot?". Her movements are calculated, straightlined, deliberate, so until we know she's Weiland's daughter, we just don't know. The fact that she accepts having sex with Idris's character after he asks if she's a robot, one can easily think this is a way for her to take his mind away from the idea that she is robot, probably because she is a more advanced one.
Alot of people don't like this movie but this has to be my favorite movie. I Absolutely love Noomi Rapace and she always brings 1000 percent to her movies. She deserves a Oscar and I hope one day she gets one! Amazing Reaction 👏 🙌🤝😎

Yep, people are way too critical of that scene. Anyone in that situation would just be running away on instinct, no time to think about things anyway
I agree. If you were actually there on the ground, every direction probably doesn't look like a good idea so, just run.

Alien Covenant is the sequel to Prometheus and picks up right after this movie
The Alien ship in this movie is the same as the one in the first Alien movie. Remember that big alien they discovered in the first movie in the chair? That was an engineer.
Same model, different ship. Also on a different planet.
@@johannesbowers7467 That's right, I think it's the ship in Covenant.
@@spis_dritt neither Prometheus nor Covenant take place on LV-426. It is just another Engineer ship.
@@johannesbowers7467 Then how did the original ship get the xenomorphs when it was David who created them in Covenant?
@@spis_dritt Covenant is before Alien.
The creator ship is, if it is not the same, at least identical to the ship from Alien where the eggs lay. Also recognizable in Alien by the oversized chair.
Yeah, but in Alien it was a gaming chair. That poor Space Jockey just wanted to relax.
So now we have our four synthetics: Ash, Bishop, Call, and David! ABCD 🩶
And Walter
@@DanielRodriguez-eh1qd Walter /David : 4th letter from beginning /4th letter from the end . Antithesis
Romulus has Andy (And E) but also Rook. I think it's ultimately all just a coincidence but they're still having fun with it.
Dude! Don't disrespect Logan Marshall-Green by comparing him to Drake. Tom Hardy... Yes! Drake... NO!
the deleted scene and script delves in deeper on why the Engineer acted the way he did in the end, completely justifies himself instead of what we got: an angry alien killing everyone.
Idk man a lot of folks hate this movie, but I really enjoyed it. And tbh, I seriously had no idea it was a part of the Alien franchise until the very end with the giant face hugger. Then it was solidified when I saw the xenomorph.

David is one most interesting characters I’ve ever seen in a movie, just the way he childlike in exploring the universe, yet there’s something conniving underneath the surface is really interesting
I think you guys legally have to watch all the predators, because Aliens Vs Predator is a movie worth experiencing. Love the reaction Tara and Aaron!

How to be a reaction channel:
Step 1: tell people you havent seen it before
Step 2: If you have seen it before convince the audience you cant remember it
Also be loud, obnoxious, and try hard funny.
If you dont like reaction channels then dont watch them.
@@MarioBario I love reaction channels 💀
Love this movie. The fact that you want more is what the whole movie is about. Why did the engineers make & why did they want us dead… the sequel leaves more questions I can’t wait till u watch covenant
The original Swedish Girl With the Dragon Tattoo would be a great watch for the Shejects.
Absolutely, yes!!! The trilogy with Naomi Rapace & Michael Nyquist (RIP Michael!!!) are excellent!!!
Prometheus gets too much hate. This was the first Alien movie I saw and I was one of the few people who seemed to really enjoy it when it was released.
Thanks for the reaction! Tara Erickson & Aaron Alexander are my favorite pair on this channel!
that sad, you're probably annoying at too!
As if any reaction with Aaron can ever be good . He’s so stupid
Also, the opening shot with the Engineer was on Earth, implying that the death of the Engineer, his DNA mutated by whatever he consumed, was the source for life on Earth; us in particular.
Prometheus is a highly underrated Alien film. Covenant was a let down. Haven't checked out Romulus, heard a lot of good things about it.
Romulus is very good until halfway through when it falls apart.
@@DanV900 Disagree. It´s great throughout.

It is better than all.
My man Aaron felt "whelmed" at the end like Robin in Young Justice. 🤣
I hope in the future Michael Fassbender comes back. His performance was single handedly what carried the two movies he was in.
Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3
Charlize Theron as Clea in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness who is yet to make another appearance.
Michael Fassbender as Magneto in the X-Men films under 20th Century Fox umbrella.
Benedict Wong appearing as well before becoming Wong in the MCU.
The Scottish actress was in the Loki TV series as a Tva leader.
greg i will never forgive u for the commercial break in the middle of the reaction, i was startled.
Prometheus is so underrated
Blows away alien romulus
BTW that map scene in 3d IMAX was BEYOND mesmerizing
And fassbender was brilliant. I'll never understand the hate. The effects and CGI were brilliant. The story was great. It wasn't sons rehashed story. Imo it's the second best film in the series. BTW they did find our creators. The engineers created us. Very beginning of the movie.
I couldn’t wait for this reaction I love this movie and the visuals are so beautiful 🔥
I could definitely see that backlash happening. Even if only a sci-fi fantasy movie, and especially in this day & age.

Fun Fact: When this came out, nobody knew if this was Alien related, there were some theories, but that. So we only knew that it was a Ridley Scott movie.
So.. it was a nice reveal!
Aaron blessing us with the fresh twists
The little bit of Aaron thinking it was guy pierce and realized after was hilarious
I love Aaron, and even when this film was coming out, it was widely known it was a part of the Alien franchise, but could you guys imagine the pop from Tara had she just happened to come across the xenomorph on her own the first time she saw it instead of him clueing her in on it?
And it also skewed her perspective bc, then, she was constantly speculating about what Alien things were going to happen throughout instead.
gurl trying to have newt back after like 40 years is so hilarious 😭
Appreciate the love for Logan Marshall Green. The Invitation is such a hidden gem of a thriller. I love that movie.
After Aliens, this is my favorite Alienverse movie. It’s so unique and refreshing (esp bec the reveal was awesome) and I love how they expanded the universe by introducing those terrifying gigantic beings.
36:10 "ahh this is the worst possible outcome!" 😂 😂 I spat my drink out 😂
OMG they are doing Prometheus and Covenant!! time for the lore/ story telling part of Alien! .. the best part 😉
David executed Mr Weyland's program. When Weyland died, David became autonomous. This laid the groundwork for his actions/behaviors in Covenant. Great reaction.
That intro was so painful
Omg 😱 YES! It absolutely looks like Handsome Squidward! Believe it or not, I legitimately said the same damn thing when I was trying to explain the movie to my boyfriend after me and my friend got home after watching it in theaters ffs! 😂👍😉
Ahhh, perfect timing. Gonna enjoy my dinner and watch this! Always liked Prometheus despite its problems :)

Tara's British accent is tops. 😆
Also Aaron "modern times" is referred to anything after 1900 so you're good❤ And your hair looks so good too!
Logan Marshall-Green is also THE Trey Atwood 😍 OC Baby!! I also loved him in Upgrade and The Invitation. Such a great actor
This was one of the few movies that took advantage of the 3d when it came to the galaxy scene in the control room. Looked beautiful
Never clicked so quick
I had the same experience as Aaron: I distinctly remember watching this at a friend’s house the year it came out and remembered nothing but Charlize Theron getting squashed by the ship! Wild how that goes… and I recently rewatched 🎉
The origin of the trope "the Prometheus School of Running Away From Things"
Again…. Michael Fassbender is beyond exceptional he really encapsulates the characters he plays so well
His acting is superb
Important notes:
- The engineer at the start is there to start (or speed up?) life in the planet, sacrificing himself as part of their team/group as part of their process.
Just watched Alien Romulus and while impressive in part and competently made, it's not better than Prometheus or Alien Covenant 😢
The opening sequence with the engineer dissolving into the water is the creation of man or human kind.
Alot of people don't like this movie but this has to be my favorite movie. I Absolutely love Noomi Rapace and she always brings 1000 percent to her movies. She deserves a Oscar and I hope one day she gets one! Amazing Reaction 👏 🙌🤝😎
It’s a prequel not sequel
