  • On October 31st, 1999, Egypt Air Flight 990 is heading out over the Atlantic Ocean to Cairo. Dinner is being served, when suddenly, the plane begins plunging toward the water. Minutes later, all 217 people on board are dead.
Can you work out how this disaster happened?
From Season 3 Episode 8 "Death And Denial": There was no distress signal, no obvious sign of malfunction. Did a bomb bring the plane down? Is there a mechanical fault with one of the most popular airliners in the world? As pieces of the plane are pulled from the ocean, the mystery deepens.
Investigators pore over the wreckage. Tiny rivets in the plane that help control the elevators were broken before the crash. Egypt Air insists this was the cause of the tragedy, but the National Transportation Safety Board pushes further.
Welcome to the OFFICIAL Mayday: Air Disaster RUclips Channel.

It was 100% intentional. It’s no coincidence that only moments after he’s left alone the plane starts wildly diving. There’s no explanation for why he was pushing down and continued to do so even after the captain told him to pull up. There no explanation for his unresponsiveness to the captain either. It also makes sense as to why he was so insistent to swap out early, he wanted to crash the plane asap. There’s just far too much evidence he did it on purpose and it’s outrageous Egypt tried to cover it up especially when the elevator malfunction wouldn’t lead to a crash.

Thankfully, we now have aviation rules where no "one" pilot is in control of a plane here in North America. I believe that this is now a consistent avaiation rule worldwide. If a co-pilot, or pilot needs to use the washroom, it is my understanding that the first flight officer/head flight crew member would be in the cockpit while either is away for a bathroom break.

I think all airlines do this, especially in the wake of other instances of a sole pilot being in the cockpit and crashing the plane, including the now infamous Germanwings 9525 flight.
I actually saw them do this on a flight I was on recently flying out to go diving. I was sitting close to the front and the first officer came out of the cockpit and was replaced by the purser (head flight attendant) until he returned.

It's crystal clear that el Batouty crashed it on purpose: his job was hanging by a thread because of his inapropiate behaviour and he couldn't pass the First Officer rank despite being almost 60 years old. Not only that, but his behaviour made things even clearer: the most obvious sign is that he made the young first officer to leave the cockpit earlier. Then, he waited for the Captian to go to the toilet and then he turned off the engines and made a mess with the controls.
And the icing on the cake is that he didn't seem shocked by how uncontrollable the aircraft was or by the situation. He never answered anything to the captian, just kept flying, clearly, to death.

I studied Flight 990 for over 18 years and I have been flying for 38 years with over 26900 hours of flight time. I found out just by using Common Sense in this case coupled with the background of the Co-Pilot it appears to me He more likely than not was unstable mentally. I know this Aircraft inside and out. It appears his career was soon to be ended before his retirement and he held a secret life that got out by complaints. He could appear normal in all cases and pass a Medical Evaluation of any type, but his reported actions bring to life he had some sort of mental problem with his always wanting strange women to go with him. Put yourself in his shoes at the time when he felt his actions were going to be exposed when he got back to Egypt. It has nothing to do with Religion at all but his disgrace that was coming made him to only think about what people were going to do and what would possibly happen to him when he got back home. In simple words he wasn't going to be charged with any crime but only Shamed by his actions and he had a big ego. He was not going to let his good name be ruined. That was a normal flight with an un-normal Pilot behind the Controls. He was not worried about anyone else but himself and going out as a Hero Pilot. His actions leading up to the incident were not normal at all. In my years of flying, I had two Co-Pilots removed from the flight deck and one was restrained due to being in my opinion unstable. One got off the Plane had 18 years of Flight Service and a family and was never heard from again ever. No one ever found him or his Cessna 182RG he got in and flew off with. Both of my actions were sustained by investigation. Both of those Pilots were unstable and could have been dangerous or deadly to my Flight. Both had hidden secrets that un-nerved me. I respect the people of Egypt and their beliefs, but I do not respect any foul play on the Flight Deck. My unbiased opinion on this one and may all the Souls on board rest in Peace in Heaven.

Also just to let you know, there is no evidence that el-batouti crashed the aeroplane whatsoever, it's a speculation at best. Before you go on a karen rant and insult an entire culture, make sure you're well educated on the subject at least.
Al-batouti had no motivation whatsoever to crash the aeroplane on purpose. If he was really a muslim extremist, then how come he was trying to sleep with women at the hotel prior to the flight and had a long history of sexual harrasement etc.. Doesn't add up, does it? The phrase "I rely on god" has a different meaning culturally than what you think, no one says "I rely on god" as they are committing suicide. The phrase is commonly used by someone in a trouble or an unpleasant situation, hence, "I rely on god" as in I rely on god to get make things better. Which doesn't make sense to be used in the context of crashing an aeroplane. Even the linguistics professor agreed to that explanation.

As an experienced pilot myself, this one is obvious. If there is a mechanical, the crew verbalizes the symptoms, calls for checklists, etc. this F/O did none of that. An idiotic religious culture is at the root of this tragedy.

the relief pilot was too old to be flying a plane....he caused it to dive and tear apart

No mechanical failure, "competent" pilot at the helm. Can't help but think this wasn't an accident.

I found it very strange that the commentators to this video nor other investigators even once mentioned anything about the fact that the pilot who come back to the cockpit exclaimed once or twice in the black box recording that the engines were shut down. This would obviously have been an important item of investigation and required a plausible answer to those defending or accusing the pilot in question. There must be a explanation as to why the commentator did not comment on that exclamation by the returning pilot but I personally don't get it.

They were throwing everything at the wall to see what would stick. I remember when this happened. I remember just hearing it in just the sound of his voice that it was on purpose. A doctor I worked for was supposed to be on this flight

I saw a slithering snake as he entered the cockpit...the younger co pilot should have stood his ground and refuse that snake trying to boot him out of his rightful position as co-pilot...lesson here is...never give this kind of news to a person until his last day.

@@MB.543 I think they meant co-pilot and it was by far not his fault. I sort of blame the Captain, not the man "CAPTAIN".... he was clearly mentally unstable. The first 2 in the cockpit were doing just fine. It was the other pilot called "Captain" who had serious mental issues if jot schizophrenia.

as an Egyptian, I think and believe that AL-Batuti is the one who intentionally crashed the plane BUT I also think that the reasons mentioned above is not enough I think there is more to know about that person.
