    Same here 68 year's old and hard core metal halide grower since 1979 , switched to LED last summer and I'm over the moon impressed , had a 1000 watt cmh de , pulling 1000 watts from the wall , constantly struggling with temperature , now 23c , 650 watt's from the wall and my buds are the best I've ever grown , double yield , 4" fan !!

      What did u get from the MH roughly? Heat hurts yields so an HID is pointless without proper extraction. Also HPS bulbs so cheap (half MH) did you never ever try one?

      @@bruceholinight7978 wow those numbers are low! I know genetics have changed alot, since about 1990 hybrids suited to indoors came to market.
      A double ended 1000w should get 36oz in the right environment... 18oz would be fairly standard in a tent. Big extractor with thermostat, decent substrate & nutrients.
      Have u tried any hydro systems? Even handwatered perlite & vermiculite can give really vigorous growth.
      I've been at it less than 10years & tried soil, Coco, hydro to get more yield per foot, been in alot of different locations but even with staff discounts when I worked at hydro stores I never bought an LED (luddite) but friend with same clones got less dense bud & less weight per foot but they saved power & didn't have to worry about hot spells in summer.

I did win two local cannabis cups using the CMH so it is a great light just too much heat and power , only us a 4" fan now ....turned down !

    Could this light flower 1,5 square meters? It seems a bit optimistic.
    I always end up with light burn or pale green leaves by the end of harvest. Not pale green from lack of nutrients, but light burn. Don´t know if its the fans, the proximity to the lights ( try to keep it at 50cm) low temps during some light hours (18-19 celcius) 2-3 hours a day.

      It can help but once I hit 600 of led covering 6x6 didn't need to worry about heat so much vs hps and it was still cheaper to run a electric heater with a thermostat in the winter

      Exactly, people don't seem to understand some people actually welcome the heat of the HPS. The cost of cooling them and running them is negligible compared to re-mortgaging your home to buy one LED fixture.

    Hi, I need some advice. I have been using digital s.e. 600w hps for many years now. A friend loaned me an older Lumigrow 650 with adjustable white, red, and blue. I am growing cannabis in a 4x4 tent. My question is , should I use the older lumigrow or upgrade my hps to a double ended? I am on a budget and can't afford a new high-end LED. Any advice is appreciated.

      Double ended hps imo would out perform older blurple light even though the Lumigrow was top of the line for it's day

      What's the point? More than 4-5% far red causes stem elongation and artificially increases leaf temp, and only UVb best delivered in pulsing form, aka fluorescent tubes, is helpful to increase terpenes in flower.

    • @RocketNothing
      @RocketNothing 3 года назад

      Because 730 infrared increases Emerson effect, elongation isn't really an issue if you know how to grow properly. UVA is beneficial to thc & resin production. Its a wider spectrum which is closer to sunlight.

    Something I didn’t hear mentioned nor seen in comments is that disposal of HPS and MH bulbs at least have mercury in them. I’ve had a greenhouse re-lamped in the past and the disposal cost exceeded the price of new bulbs. LED are still e-waste, but not toxic waste.

    Really interesting video with lots of stuff to think about! I personally believe that supplementally lit greenhouses are going to be the most efficient compromise for growing. What are your thoughts on using sun/LEDs together? Can you give me your suggestions for fixtures that would be the best to use in a greenhouse scenario? Fixtures that are waterproof, passively cooled, and have a lens are the only factors I've weighed so far.

      I would say run all LED but not those BS amazon quantum board ones. Don’t get me wrong they’re fine for small grows (if they use good diodes) but any grow of that size or bigger should be using 630w CMH, 750w-1000w DE HPS, or 650-720w LED 6 or 8 bar strip lights. If you have the money to dish out go for the strip bar LED’s. You can get relatively good deals on Alibaba or one of those chinese sites on LED fixtures that use the exact same diodes, drivers, wattage etc as the big brands for a fraction of the price if you wanna save a buck, nothing wrong with em. Otherwise, Growers Choice or Yearld have relatively cheap LED’s for under $900

Made by koscheal..!! (Took a wile to find the well made ones) so overall much more light coverage lower temperatures. Definitely recommend. One thing I found that might be useful for some people is that the lower branches don’t do so well so I found trimming the lower branches in the growth stage made for a much better result & yeild.. also remember not to over water as the lower heat output causes the soil to stay moist for longer.. ✔️

    • @pedclarkemobile
      @pedclarkemobile Год назад

      With a decent digital ballast and quality bulbs, you should change bulbs about once every 6 months (using 'boost' setting or dimming the bulbs tends to shorten the lifespan of bulbs, best to only use the intended wattage for the bulb).

    Hi there migrow, very good comparison, Question regarding minimum air exchange in cold climates, you mention turning intake/ exhaust fans to a minimum speed to maintain temperature, I'm wondering how this can be done successfully in climate where its common to have outside air temperature of between 5 to -10 degree at night using LED alone. Yes we can set the fan speed to say 1 air exchange every 3 minutes but this will not maintain a growroom temperature of 25 degree, if say we reduce the fanspeed to say 1 air exchange every 10 minutes perhaps/maybe we can get a stable room temperature of 25 degree but that will reduce the Co2 concentration in our growroom as the plant consumes and the extra PPFD produced by the LED becomes unutilized. As we know when it comes to photosynthesis there is a direct relationship between the PPFD umol/m2/s : Co2 ppm ration. What would you say the minimum air exchange would be maintain Co2 @ 400ppm in say a 2 cubic meter tent situation ??

    • @MIGROLIGHT
      @MIGROLIGHT  3 года назад +2

      Sean, my experience is you don't need to worry about CO2 as it does not reduce rapidly with low airflow. I have run tents with no forced airflow for days at a time with only small reductions in CO2. Maintaining temp is much more important than forcing air through to try to maintain CO2

    • @mrburn6119
      @mrburn6119 Год назад

      you mention the problem seems to be the cold nights, when is your daylight cycle? Plants will only uptake co2 on daylight. you ideally want an 8 degree difference between day and night for best oil/terp at the end. A water heater in a container of water can help keep the temp warm at low cost. As migro says temps (and humidity for me) are the main things to get right. Liken it to a sports car, would you fit (at extra cost) a racing air filter (co2) to a sportscar, when you only use E85 fuel?(low temp), (in case you didn't know 85% ethanol fuel (E85) has a far lower energy output than non ethanol fuel and would also damage a high performance engine.). IMO they only crave it when the temps are hot, and is useful to sustaining them above ideal temps, but every one is as individual as humans. Good Luck
