    The calculation for 3 year cost is based on delivering 800 µmols average PAR to the plant canopy in a 5ft x 5ft area. The cost includes the price of the fixture and the cost of electricity at the average US rate of 16.8C per KW hour run for 3 years at 12 hours per day.

    correct me if im wrong, but most of the lights were tested with the old par-spectrum right? While some,. including the Migro aray, were measured with epar? That means the other lights look worse than they actually are because you have to add 3-5%umol, right?

    • @MIGROLIGHT
      @MIGROLIGHT  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you are correect. There is 1 to 2% far red in most led fixtures with white LEDs. The fixtures in this list were tested over about three years. I would have tested the last 1.5 to 2 years with the ePAR meter and before that the Apogee SQ500 and Spoton meter which do not detect that 2 to 3% far red.

    Okay so maybe I’m missing something here… but isn’t the total cost after 3 years figured by adding the initial cost of the light to the cost of operating the light for 3 years? IF SO (and maybe I’m wrong) then these total are incorrect. At least the first 5 are incorrect. Like I said possibly I’m doing something wrong here. ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to make an informed decision😅 4:17

  • @regularSenseAppeal
    @regularSenseAppeal 6 месяцев назад +1

    How do you calculate avg PAR? You said you calculated running cost @ 800 µmols/(5x5)/sec. However the numbers shown for PAR vary wildly from that. Are the shown values measurements of the lights running @ 100%? Did you simply extrapolate from the measurements @100% to reach the running costs? That would be somewhat misleading as some lights will run @ 100% to reach avg. of 800 while others would have to be dialled down a to more efficient ranges. Wouldn't it be more illustrative to show the intensity grid when they actually reach 800µmols and the wattage used? I realise that making all those measurements would be exhausting but you don't get a true representation of hotspots nor running costs when the intensities vary that much.

      In addition, I added 2 4ft SolarCure bulbs.

  • @TokamakPolywell

    So this isn't really the "Best" list, it's the "cheapest" to run list---which is misleading. If you wanted to show the "Best" for growing your list would be sorted by useable ppf of some manner. Or are you telling us that all that PAR map data you've collected means nothing? You could've made a more honest presentation at least.

    • @MIGROLIGHT
      @MIGROLIGHT  7 месяцев назад +1

      'Best' is best value for money and it's objective with repeatable test parameters. The PAR maps are a qualitive visual representation of the output of the fixture. Please clearly detail your proposed 'honest' method of objectively comparing 25 different fixtures for wattage, spectrum, price, build quality, spread, service delivery etc. I'd love to see it. I'll give you some honest feedback on it.

    • @TokamakPolywell
      @TokamakPolywell 7 месяцев назад

      Actually I did. You're claiming a connection between price and "best" grow light. Your presentation focused entirely on the last column of your made-up chart so I suggested sorting by a different column based on ppf instead of your misplaced focus on cheapest. No need to get butt hurt; it's not like i'm your competition. If you wanted to answer the question of which light would grow the best crop in a 5x5---this post didnt do that which does misrepresent the title more than a little.

    So can someone clarify for me cause Ive been trying to figure this out. This is saying there is not much benefit going over 480watts in a 4x4 right? Im ordering a 4x8 tent and led lights but thought it would be beneficial to get a 860w like spiderfarm g8600 or a 1000w but after watching this video im not too sure. Is it better off just getting two 480-600 watt lights since the yield would be barely increased with a 860-1000 watt light?

      @@metatron6066 I'm not sure about the older models, but my Kind X750 is a beast. Not a fair comparison to make, but it outperforms my other lights. Mars FC-6500, AC Infinity S44, Viparspectra XS-4000.

    Regarding the Lumatek Photontek 600w pro which one is it? the 2.6, 2.7, 2.9, or 3.1? The 3.1 claims 1990μmol/s using 640W.

    I noticed something very interesting. I was mesuring PAR levels of differnet lights, with two differentAPP and all worked out well. I have an LED flloodlight and with both app, showed (unreal) very low PAR level, but the interesting thing is that the closer I put my meter to the floodlight the smaller the PAR level get. Why is that happenenig, does anyone know what the limitation we see here with mobile APPS? Does it happened with anyon else?

    Regarding the lumatek/ photontek; in the EU the 600w has three levels; 2.6, 2.7 and, 2.9 Micromol/J.
    The 2.6 (the lowest) advertises 1570 micromols/s of total output. Is this false advertising or is it due to the americans using 110v instead of 220/240v of the EU?
    (Im a biologist don´t know much about electricity, might be the dumbest question you´ve ever heard.)
    The 2.9 says it produces 1770 µmol/s.
    I currently run the 2.7 versions wich puts out 1620 µmol/s (lumatek data) and cant run at 100% untill the flowers have already developed or it will burn the leaves. I run 75% during the first 3
    weeks of flowering and than switch to 100%. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Oh how I miss the days of HPS when all you needed to do was put your hand under the light.........
