Hello there..... thorough review! If you're still considering the D800 in 2024 don't give it too much thought. It's a beast! A tank! It's a pro camera that's made to put up with daily use and then some. Its a marvelous tool that won't let you down. I find that the images that it produces don't need a lot of post editing. They're pleasing to the eye straight out of the camera. Colour rendition and resolution is excellent. If it was Nikon's finest camera ever back in 2012 ,it's still an awesome machine now. I think people pay to much attention to gear when they should be paying attention to technique. Learn your craft, hone your technique and practice practice practice. One down side for me perhaps is the weight of these beasts. Probably not great if your travelling
Very well explain! Yeah, the D800 is a solid camera that still produces great results. Actually, a lot of cameras even from that time period is still more than capable of producing great results even for today's standards. It's about the practice, practice and practice. Accumulate your knowledge, develop you own aesthetics/tastes and techniques. Thank you so much for watching and also for the detailed comments, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Love your videos, and we have similar opinions on random details, I also hate SD cards, don't mind CF cards, and love the color of my 1DX the best of all my cameras haha! Your review of this was spot on, I still have my D800 and use it regularly, I would add that it still focuses with some of my older Sigma lenses that don't AF on my D4S, for example. Wish the AF and especially fps were a bit better, but I always come back with keepers on every shoot, so that works for me 🙂. Will probably pick up a D850 over the next few months, I really do love a good DSLR! Keep the great content coming!
Congratulations on getting the D800, I am sure you’ll produce some great results and capture some great moments with it! :-) Despite it’s age, it is still a very capable camera that still outputs great results when use properly. I thank you very much for watching as well as for commenting, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I have both. The D750 is the better option as an all-around camera with better low light performance. If your shooting primarily with a tripod for landscape at ISO 100, the D800 is no doubt the better pick.
Hey! Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered one. hahahah Any suggestions for lenses? I already own a 50mm manual, I was using on my DX system, so.. If you could I would really appreciate any suggestions ;-) cheers
Interesting to hear your thoughts on the nikon d4 as being inferior to the canon 5d mark iii and 1dx. Having had to use the 5dmiii and Nikon d4 for work, i found the d4 better with autofocus, low light photography (especially in very dark conditions) and wildlife. I also preferred the colours and files. Other than the weight and mp, i would take the d4 any day. Haven't tried the 1dx, but colleagues who have suggest that it's very close to the d4.
Yeah, I personally think it’s really subjective to what we use the cameras for, hence why it’s just my thoughts since it is just based on my experience of using them. I mainly shoot portraits, events and city. The Nikon D4is my second favourite Nikon camera after the D800. But in my experience, both the D800 and the D4 struggled a lot with shooting portraits with foreground obstacles and also with high contrasted areas. Furthermore, I love using the f/1.2 and f/1.4 lenses, the canon 1DX and the 5d mark iii are able to get more hit rates then the D800 and the D4 in my experience with the native settings. When using telephotos lenses like the 70-200mm f/2.8, the 1DX and the 5D mark iii are also able to find and accurately lock on to the subject(s) much faster than the Nikon D4 and the D800. But for focusing on low lighting situations, I have to admit that the Nikon D800 and the D4 are able to focus faster half the time than the 5D mark iii and the 1DX. Though the D4 and the D800 has great colours, my personal favourite is still the 1DX overall. But of course, this is all very subjective to my shooting preferences and different photographers will have their own preferences and priorities. But at the end of the day, they are will produce great images and I really love all of them. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your experience and story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Hi there. Great Video. At the begining of the Video you talk about a Canon but, I did not understand the model of it, please, can you tell me that model of Canon that you bought. Many greetings from Germany
We are concerned with the technical aspects of new cameras. Remember historically great images were taken with film and very old-designed lenses without any coating. No pixels were present.
As a D800 owner can you indicate what are the 3 best lens for this camera I currently have a 24/120 lens but looking for a low end 24 or 50 and also a larger 400 to 500mm lens can you advise on these two lens that are better for this full frame camera Love your posts keep them coming David
No doubt: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II. With these 3 lenses and a D800, the weak link will (allmost) allways be the photographer. For the absolute best sharpness: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART For travel/lightweight: Nikon 24-120mm f/4 (note: NOT the older f/3.5-5.6 which is pictured in this video)
depends entirely on what you shoot....landscape? I'd do a 24-70 and a 100-400 and a 21mm if you love really wide angle....if you shoot portraits then I'd do the 70-200 2.8 as the number one lens....and I'd add an 85 1.2, 50 1.2 and maybe a 35 1.4
I thank you very much for watching and for commenting. I am deeply sorry if you don't like my content and I will try to improve my future content. Thank you for the suggestion. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting
The D810 is indeed better in lowlight situation but it is also a little bit more expensive and it really depends on the shooter on what is more important at the end of the day and under which environment they will be using the camera. The D800 can be found for under €280 if you don't care about the shutter count as well as the scratches of the camera where as the similar condition for the D810 is about €520 and for the extra money, the users could have invested in some cheap but good fast primes. :-) But of course, this really depends from users to users. I thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your perspective, very much appreciated. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@DavidCuhls D800 at ISO above 1000 simply Not usable ! at 2024 lever .now day all the SLR camera body already down by almost 70% - 80% from 10 year ago.If you wish to buy a SLR body on 2024. the price between the D800 and D810 is not much difference. but D810 can work at ISO 2000 vg clean in noise. high 36MP and fast focusing.Still relevant for keeping one in the era ot mirror less.camera.
@@wcleong5584 Thank you very much for you detailed explanation, very much appreciated it and I definitely don't disagree with you, please don't get me wrong. That said, many users/buyers will have their own priorities and standards as well,. For example, if someone is looking to spend no further than €600 euros for a full frame camera that shoots in general disciplinary field of photography, getting a D800 with a couple of good cheap bright prime lenses might be a better deal for them than getting a D810, which is already around €550 and then you're left with not much to spend on lenses. Sure, great DSLRs like the D800, D810, 5d Mark iii, etc. are much cheaper nowadays but prices drop does not determine how much budget buyers will have. Furthermore, we might already see noise at ISO 1000 but normal people will not care about the noice at ISO 1000 from the D800 to be frank with you. The D810 does have a little bit faster AF speed and slightly more accurate but I personally wouldn't stretch that it's much faster and for many people, it would still be more beneficial to safe the extra money and get brighter lenses. I am not denying the value and the benefit/advantages of the D810, for sure it's great, but at the end of the day, different people will have different priorities and budgets. As of now, for people with very little budget, the D800 is still a good camera (of course with weaknesses) but you can really achieve more just by investing in cheep but exe lent bright glasses for the camera. Thank you again for watching as well as for the effort in commenting, really appreciated it. I am also deeply sorry if I've offended you in anyway, it was never my intention. I wish you a good time and have fun shooting
I just bought a second hand D850. around US $850. low sc 25k. It's has a 45MP.good video.touch screen to pair with my current D4. to earn money 💰. I told my clients this D850 is the second to none even in front of latest nikon lines up.the top DxOmark ranking 🤴
It is a good camera but beware to buyers. I bought 2 versions of this DSLR and they all have the backfocus issue. Too lame Nikon didn't address it. The D810 was supposed to be the D800
Zero back-focus issues on any of my D800's. There were some very early production numbers that had this issue, but was quickly corrected by Nikon in later batches. It is also very easy to adjust the back-focus if you own a body that has it, so not really a problem in my view
Still my highest megapixel camera that works like a ...horse! Still love it and will not be going anywhere ever!
There is very little actual difference in real-world resolution between the D800, D850, Z8 and Z9.

Yes it is heavy even with a short zoom. You need a strong neck strap.

I have a D600 that's still EXCELLENT. I'm considering picking up a used D800 body. I found a few for $250. It's insane!

DSLR forever!
Hi David,great video
Btw you can assign the movie record button on Nikon d800 to change ISO.
Hope that helps,good day
I purchased one recently (August 2024) I paid very little for it. I look forward to using it.

What a great video! I bought mine few months ago for 350€ with 26k shutter actuation and I love it!
I have the 810 which is really awesome.
Another wonderful video and photos David. Thanks...
I bought this camera new in 2012. I've been thinking about moving to the gfx fuji line...it is still incredible...
Is there a big difference in quality between the D800 and the D750? I'm thinking between those two models, but my budget is closer to the D800.

Is this a better pick than the 5d mark 3 or the 6d mark 2?
Yes. I've tried them all.
The Nikons age like a fine 🍷

I'm a professional and still love using the AF-D 20-35mm F/2.8 and the AF-D 200mm F/4 Micro lenses on a D800 body.
No doubt: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II. With these 3 lenses and a D800, the weak link will (allmost) allways be the photographer.

I still use D810 along with a Nikon ZF.
It's the chef, not the oven. I've got the 24-120 f/4 VR on it too.

high ISO no good. at ISO 1000 above ,noise vy obvious. D810 is vy much better in ISO .
