My friend came out of wedding photography retirement to shoot my wedding and she used, you guessed it, a D700. Love the shots she got. We have a few blown up and framed in the house.
I have no words for how much I adore my D700. Bought it used as my first "real" camera last year, and it has never once let me down. The colours and metering are nigh mythical.
After 13 years of shooting the D700 I just upgraded to the Z8. The Z8 is a beast - and there's no doubt it's a far more capable camera. But the 700 is so much more 'organic'. It's early days in my transition but right now it feels like I 'work' the Z8...but 'use' the 700. But I think what really says it all is that I have absolutely no plans to get rid of the 700. I pop the 70-200 on the Z8 and the 24-70 on the 700 and use them both as a working pair - the clarity of the Z8 complementing the lushness of the 700. It's a dream team...though rather a heavy one!
I'm not a photographer, not a camera artist or professional either but I have to take pictures for my wife because she loves ...I have 2 D700 with 85mm f/1.4 on one and 24-70 mm f/2.8 on second one I loved it. I have Nikon Z5, nikon d7000 they were lighter, more features than D700 but compared the pictures from their, I think D700 much better
D700 was my dream camera at the time but all I could afford was the D90, not bad at all, but now with those prices is tempting to get one D700 nowadays just to say that I finally got my dream camera (15 years later LOL).
It's never too late! I got myself a D3s from mpb 8ish months ago. Really happy with it. Still shoots like the day it was launched. I did end up with the flagship body, even if 15 years too late, didn't I? 😊😊😊
And truth, fact is...even into 2024+...the D90 (DX, 12 MP) still takes awesome photos, with the right lens....it's about your creative vision, less so the gear, ever.
@@deadpool6072 I absolutely lust after the 7Dii...!!! I didn't have any long Canon glass suitable for sports, otherwise I wouldn't have gone for the D3s. I had a 70-200 and a buddy's 150-600 for Nikon so sadly the Canon was not feasible. Soon hopefully... Soon...
The D700 was my first "real" DSLR after a brief learning stint with a D40x. Still probably my favorite camera I've ever had, though I used by D750 for longer. IMO, the 700 is one of the prettiest camera of all time in its design and build.
I had one and was thrilled by the colors! Incredible output it had. My hands are small and the camera is slightly too big, so I now shoot with the D750. Not a successor, but a completely different tool. Love it too, but in a different way.
12MP translates to about 4200 x 2800 dpi, which produces 13" x 19" @ 300 dpi prints. The only thing lost compared to bigger sensors is the ability to do deep cropping.
I had the D3 with the D700 in 2008. After years and after trying various Mirrorless cameras I realized that for the photography I do 12mp is enough for me. Modern cameras look more like PlayStations. A few months ago, thanks to mpb, I picked up two d700s again. It's a unique pleasure for me to shoot with that camera and I really like the results.I shoot at ceremonies and events and also print A3s without any problems. If you don't need to make video, if you don't need to shoot at very high ISO (I shoot up to ISO 6400 without problems), If you don't need exposure preview (can you read a light meter?), If you don't need to do big crops, then the D700 is a great deal. Do yourself a favor and at least give her a chance. ❤
I agree! I’ll go so far as to say proper exposure even at higher ISO yields excellent results. I ❤ my D700; while I don’t shoot a lot, when I want to go full frame it’s my go to girl. Otherwise it my X-T3. I recently picked up a D750, thinking it’s essentially a Nikon version of the X-T3. It’s not. And I truly think that megapixels aside, the D700 is the better body. It wasn’t overhyped in 2008, and it’s still a legend today.
Bought a cheap beat up one earlier this year. Peeling grips, worn away paint, 140,000 clicks. Still works flawlessly. Googled the name I found in the copyright info section of the menu which suggests it may have been owned by a multi global award winning wine photographer and journalist whose images are simply amazing. My images, not so much but the camera is a complete joy to use. So much so that I added a second one in near new condition to keep as a spare.
It's such a great story, thank you for sharing! I love that when buying used cameras there is always some story attached to each piece of equipment. - Jakub
My favourite digital camera. Usually I shoot film. But when I shoot my D700 it's an amazing feel, and you don't miss a photo! Each photo as always the best colour. In low light, it is still the King of cameras. Amazing. The Legend!
Great video! I'm considering buying one, as I own a lot of FX nikon glass and want to buy a cheaper, full frame DSLR to shoot photos with, this way I am less tempted to look at the screen. This video was very educational on the camera, and I think I may purchase it soon!
Thank you! I had a go at the D200 while working on the "CCD vs CMOS" cameras video some time ago: ruclips.net/video/OUamgtCIgic/видео.html I will think about a video about both the D200 and D60 as I loved using the CCD Nikon cameras! - Jakub
The D200 was also a good camera. Certainly an improvement over the D100. But to appreciate the D700 I’d suggest looking at a D2x/D2h. I made heavy use of a D100, D200, D70, D2h, D7000, D750, Z6ii, and Zf. I still find the D700 incredibly impressive.
I remember lusting after the D700 when it was released and couldn't afford it ... Fast forward to 2024 and now have it sitting on my shelf alongside the D200 and D90. Each have a unique place in the collection. I totally enjoy using them all and the images that come out of them.
A friend has a D750, i dont know how it compares to the D700 but for the work that we do is still a beast, we use it for weeding photography or just brand stuff and it looks great, even the video is mostly usable with some heavily editing
Cool, I had the D700 and now use the D750. A completely different beast it is. D700 = pro (like the D800(E)/810/850) and the D750 is 'midrange'. Build quality is less (still very good), but I prefer the D750 because of its size. Smaller, more easy to operate alongside my D7200, which has the same buttons on the same place.
I thought about getting one as it's really affordable now and as a Canon shooter I still want to be able to use some vintage Nikon glass I inherited. 12 megapixels might not be incredible by today's standards but still fine, considering even 4K monitors can only display 8 megapixels and you see how big 4K TVs have become - and they don't look bad either. You just don't want to crop the shots as much.
Exactly, there is not much room for cropping but if you don't need that, 12MP is absolutely enough for most scenarios. And you don't watch a 4K monitor from 20 cm to actually see the pixels. Thank you for watching! - Jakub
they dont even understand it , 9 out of 10 people will say , you get sharper images when you stop down the lens , when all lenses are sharpest wide open , in the center that is and when you stop the lens down , you sacrifice the middle center for gains in the corners , and for DOF ... they cant figure out that every part of glass works on every pixel at the same time , so more glass is always sharper , tho due to problems in the corners of the glass or edges , things improve stopped down but not in the center they dont . Center can only degrade .
@@WeirdFishStick no i did not , the bigger the lens the sharper it is , you can test this take 80mm telescope , and 120 mm telescope with same glass , just different size , look at Saturn see which one is sharper . Then stop it down see how sharper it gets . And yes Refractor Telescope is a lens , bunch of people use it in Astrophotography just doesn't have Aperture , why , do they want it to be the sharpest it can be , so why don't they stop it down to get sharper image, because they aim for center sharpness that is best if you do nothing .
In my opinion, the older cameras are kind of like older sports cars, without all the driver aids and assists. Its mostly your skills thats going to give you great results, and a good lens as well
My Pop passed away over ten years ago. I inherited his. At the time, he told me it would be a “camera for life”. In most aspects, he was correct. Unfortunately, parts for repairs are be becoming obsolete. Some of the D700s used a poor alloy for the hot shoe, of course mine went bad and I had to have it replaced. Along with his D300, and Fuji S5 Pro, plus all the pro glass he had, these three cameras have carried me and still do all these years later. Nothing but compliments on all the photos I’ve taken over the years. A handful of weddings, several events, mostly portrait shoots. Just did a family shoot a couple weeks ago. Matrix metering works beautifully. Pop-up flash enables Nikon CLS in a jam. High speed sync flash works superably. And just like a film camera, all the important options you need while shooting are at your fingertips - not buried in menus. Built like a tank. Feels awesome in the hands. Like the old Timex, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Hands down, it is still a very capable camera even today.
Thank you for sharing your story, it's great to hear you're still using your Pop's camera! It's a great testimony that older cameras can still be used to take good photos. And the S5 Pro is another great camera! - Jakub
If you want to supercharge the AF. Grab a speedlight (SB-600, 700, or 800). Use the AF illuminator from the speedlite. An SU-800 Commander can do it too. The D700 also has access to dummy batteries too. If you can find one, you can have infinite battery life. The coolest thing about the D700 is having a pop-up flash. Not many if any full frame bodies regardless of era especially today comes with one.
It has what many new mirrorless cameras simply dont have and that is character throughout, from the usability & responsive feedback when shooting to the raw files. The experience makes you bond with it & you dont get that from new cameras. Feels less like a computer & more like photography.
Please don't push 2nd hand prices, MPB. I bought my 1st D700 into 2010 - saved my pennies, still expensive..2 years, after it hit the market. It's build like a tank. Bought my 2nd D700 last september, because i've seen a good offer on MPB, as backup copy. 🙂 The D700 does all, i ever need from a DSLR. It's low MP count produces good tonality & rendition, besides, i never print bigger than 80x60cm, but have had made prints with 12-13MP (original 5D & D700) up to 120x80cm on Canvas, no pixel have been seen. It looked nice on the wall, for the friends & family, i gave my pictures away as print, and birthday/xmas gift.
5dc is diffrent beast no auto Iso, smaller, lighter and very simple with settings. Im lucky and have both 5dc and d700. Grip is better for me in 5dc. Is 1 singiel central af only works properly so is diffrent flow work with 5dc. 6d is modern replacement fir 5dc with creamy look but is not the same rendering. I will say is only 1 life for this experience so start buy yourself not only 1 camera and enjoy.
I've been buying older DSLRs recently. The files are so much smaller, and easier to work. I have a D700, along with the D800, D300, D200, D7200, and D3300. Each of them have a special niche for my uses. The best part about the oldest of them, is the lenses I've been purchasing. The last being the excellent Nikkor AF 180mm f/2.8. At first, I tried it on my D800... but after shooting portraits of my wife with the D700, that's where it's been since. The combo is simply amazing, SOOC!
I’ve had my D700 for a while, but it was a dream camera of mine 10 years ago. It’s built like a tank, offers reliable af performance and the images are always impressive. I’d like a D850, but I enjoy the small file sizes of the D700.
not bad. The 3D tracking works well, and if you get the MB-D10 grip with either AA batteries inside or an EN-EL4 pack, you can shoot up to 8fps, which is nice. It's honestly surprisingly capable, but you might lack cropping ability, or a very long lens. 12MP isn't much forgiving for wildlife. I found nyself reaching more for the APS-C D300 instead (which is basically the same thing as the D700 in APS-C form. It even uses the same vertical grip to get to 8fps, and uses the same AF system)
Still have mine!!! Even though I shoot Fuji MF 100s and 50r the D700 is near and dear to my heart! It sits on my desk upstairs right next to my computer. Love that camera.
Great video, thank you very much. I have one I didn't use for 8 years as I moved to mobile photography. One important thing to highlight is that the monitor has low resolution and only does justice to the pictures once you download them onto your computer. I will start using it again, I will get some second-hand prime lenses ;-)
That's great to hear, have fun with your old Nikon! It is definitely a very different experience than using a smartphone for photography. The screen feels dated, indeed but once you learn its quirks you can predict the final outcome fairly well, I think. Thank you! - Jakub
The fact is that hardly any body today will endure what these bodies just endured, just the feeling of robustness in the hand gives you confidence to work, 12mp hmm, many, many photos I did were printed for billboards and they were of top quality, I had 2x D700 with which I individually took 350k photos, incredible body, simply perfect for that era, plus sound shutter, inviolable!
I still enjoy my D700, I tried to sell it on facebook but nobody was interested. KInd of happy that it didn't sell !. The best things for me are that the most common settings are available from dedicated buttons, so you don't have to to go into menu to change things. for example, single shot AF to 3D tracking with one flick of a button 👍👍
One of the absolute greats. I think the “5d is greatest” crowd are emphasizing its video abilities. The build quality and ergonomics of 12mp on a full frame was a low light monster. For my money, the D700 was the greatest value for a DSLR photographer. We’ve only recently significantly improved on the D700 with the Z8.
The 5D doesn't do video.. the 5D mkii does. 5D is just a good camera for being so damn cheap, though I'd argue the 6D is the best value of the cannons.
I must say the MPB logo is very cool! using dots to spell MPB! I had a D700 around when it came out. I sold it to get the D600. What a mistake! I've since got another D700 and will never ever sell it. It's way more enjoyable to use than modern cameras. I always reach for it.
I remember I really wanted this one. I ended up with the Canon T2i instead.. and I still have it 😄. Yesterday I was testing it to see if it still works... and surprisingly it still takes great photos.
another DSLR from before that has also a very special position for me is the Df... I prefer it even before the Zf (that i have). a decent comparison between Df and D700 would be interesting
I had a brief encounter with the Fujifilm S5 Pro while working on this video: ruclips.net/video/N-mtFowT-zM/видео.html and I loved it! I will definitely have a think about a longer video about it. Thank you! - Jakub
I am also a happy owner of two D700 body's. For travel, I prefer often a D200 whitch is lighter and delivers also beautiful colors... and if everything has to go fast, I choose my beautiful D3 🙂
I was lucky enough to own the D700 brand new at the time. The release of the D300, D3 and the D700 was a monumental step for Nikon which Canon managed to close the gap only few years later technologically wise. My modern A7IV doesn't even come close to the feel and ergonomics this camera had. It really does feel like a toy compared to the D700.
D200 owner. On my second body. The first body was sold at 1mil clicks 12yrs ago. Haven't cracked 100k on this one. I say that to say if you're looking for reliability, these Nikon bodies are very tough and very reliable. Things didn't really change until the D4, D750, D800 era. The look from the D3/D3s, D300, D700, and D200 have that filmic look
The D700 was so good that I have to wonder if most image quality improvement since has come from better lens design and manufacturing. The newer Z lenses are a fair bit better than the equivalent f mount designs. A million clicks is a very solid number! That’s the sort of stat that supports my devotion to Nikon. In over twenty years of Nikon use I’ve dabbled with other brands and formats. None have had the build quality and solid feel of my Nikon bodies. My most recent body purchase is a Zf and the feel of it is soooo good. I’d say the lineage is quite obvious between the F100, F6, D200, D700, and Z8. I like that connection.
@adamaufdencamp5080 Yup, very durable cameras, inside and out. Our US military still uses Nikon for its durability and extremely High ISO. These cameras have stopped bullets, and grenades. The extreme ISO is used in pitch black conditions for recon. I haven't bought a new camera in a while. I think a ZF, Z8, or Z9 after prices drop more will be my next body. I'm still going to shoot jpeg. I've worked with the jpeg files from the Z9 and they act similar to my D200. Everything from the D300-Z6iii and Z7ii jpeg files falls apart before my near 30yr old CCD sensor. I now want video, b/c people want video and it's cost me jobs. The only Nikon series to avoid; D600 series (oil splatter), D3000 and D7000 series (terrible mounts). Only Nikon DSLR bodies worth buying. D40, D90 D200, D300, D300S, D500 D7500 D700, D750, D780 D800, D800E, D810, D850 D2HS, D2X, D3, D3S, D3X, D4, D4S, Df, D5, D6 Any Z body is worth buying. The D6 got a lot of hate, but it's one of the only Nikon DSLR I think still covered under warranty. I think the D780, D850 and maybe the D500 are still covered under warranty.
I still have my D700 from original buy,3500 exposures. Also two 4000 exposure count D3 and I can not separate the raw images. GREAT images. GAS gave me many newer ones up through the Z6 ll and Z7 ll. Better yes, bbut not that much especially when considering pixel count modification in photoshop now available.
Ok, but why do you compare D700 with Canon 5D ? Because they have both 12 mp ? Nikon is from 2008 and the Canon from 2005. I understand that they are each considered "classic" , but 3 years in technological term , is quite a difference...
It is and I am aware of that. I picked the original 5D as both the D700 and the 5D 'Classic' are often described as "Legendary" cameras and both are praised for similar things like the 'filmic' image quality or colour rendering. I feel the 5D Mark II which was released in 2008 doesn't have the same cult following as the original 5D, hence this comparison. I hope it explains my decision. Thank you for watching! - Jakub
@@mpbcomthe 5D 2 does have a bit of a cult, same with the 6D. It was after this point that they fell down for color, so they say. The D600 is often said to be good too and the others less good. Kind of interesting considering the discussion of the color filter array being better thanks to not chasing low light performance. Cameras like Arri heavily lean into very accurate color filter arrays for the most human color differentiation. The raw itself can never buy bright to be the same as we see it and the closer the filters match our eyes, the better it is. Certain teal green plastics totally mess with some cameras I've noticed.
D700 is a modern day classic with all amazing G-mount lenses, last year some youtuber compare Nikon Z9 / Nikon D3s love them both but I doubted the zoom in zoom out 70-200 f 2.8 lens of the mirrorless Z9 I feel when I got the first hand experience with Nikon Z9 with 70-200 f2. 8 lens but I feel solid with the 70-200 f 2.8 vr ii Or FL lenses.
Rumor was that the sensor was designed with, or by, Panasonic and has differences with the D3 sensor, possibly in the firmware. The images have great color and the noise seems to be more like film grain. The older Nikkor glass can still produce amazing images.
I got one almost new with a battery grip and a 50mm f1.4 lens. Never selling. None of that performance stuff matters for a regular photographer with good skills. Sure, if I am shooting high-pressure sets like in a wedding, it helps to use the latest and greatest
The D700 at launch was essentially 90% of a D3 at 60% of the price. Think about it. Same sensor. One less card slot. Ability to use 3 different types of batteries including the EN-EL 4 the D3 uses. What’s not to love?
I’m intrigued by the D780. I was very pleased with my D750 and only last year replaced it with a Z body. I’ve heard the D780 described as a Z6/D750 meld. I’ve moved on to using Z mount lenses and a Zf as my main camera. But if I still had f mount lenses a D700 or D750 would certainly be good enough for me. I don’t shoot video, so the D780 video features don’t speak to me.
The sensor was not manufactured by Nikon, Nikon designed the sensor and Matsushita ( Panasonic ) manufactured the lenegdary sensor. The other sensor that Nikon used and was not from Sony is the one in Nikon D7200, which was manufactured by Toshiba. This sensor too is legendary in its colour production and incredible dynamic range of 13.6 F stops which is unheard of for an APSC sensor. To put it in prespective, a Canon 5D MK IV full frame sensor has about the same level of dynamic ranage. The D700 retains highlights quite well for a digital camera ( about 12 stops of dynamic range ), hence its popularity with wedding, portrait and fashion phorographers, however the nonsensical analogy between D700 and film ( I presume to Portra line of films ) stems from this ability. Good eview, BTW.
Thank you! I read that the sensor was _designed by Nikon_ and _manufactured by Matsushita/Panasonic_ so I just said _it was made by Nikon_ which was probably too unspecific. Sorry about that! That is a very interesting fact about the D7200's sensor, I definitely need to look into it, thank you for sharing! - Jakub
People are so brainwashed with new tech, we have been taking incredibly detailed photos for decades, time will not change that fact, especially if you’re using a professional camera, it’s different if you got yourself a small 2000s point and shoot. If it took professional high definition photos 20 years ago it will do the same thing today (assuming the tech still works) it’s crazy that this fact is somehow mind blowing to people.
I don't think DSLRs will ever have anything nostalgic about them besides the viewfinder and the lens options. The bodies and sensors are outdated but ... will do just fine in daylight or with flash. I happily use old cameras because of fear for theft or drops.
Me too, it's a big, heavy old beast, but it does still make very decent images. Z6's are amazing value now, and much, much better than the D700 IMO. Start-up time is the only thing that's better on the D700
look at the shadows , how is it that D700 has better shadows , look at the entrance to that castle , its all black on modern one , on D700 you can see bricks inside .Or tree shadows , its very evident and biggest difference . Also micro vibration do tend to happen with hard mirror slaps , so when testing it VS mirrorless its good to prepare the camera with raised mirror ..Dont know if that is done , but anyhow i prefer D700 image, and Z7 body , i have big cameras , my kit on Canon 5D is so huge , all with Periscope , Flash , added grip . Its like holding a real tool , even with small lens its Gigantic , and you have all buttons , more then you need . I did not use Nikon Z so i dont know that part , but if it has all them buttons , then i prefer smaller .
I loved my 700 but downgraded to a 750...yes, you read that right. Immediately missed my 700 and deeply regret letting it go. The images from it just looked more professional and stunning ooc, the colors indeed magical and the contrast creamy and just right. At 12m much easier to edit. Some of the magic is back in the z6ii eh, who am I kidding no it's not :(
@@mpbcom You won't like my answer, but the D700 had an innate magic to it. From the way it felt to the way the shutter activated gently, to the color science, to the way it rendered. It felt like it output art, whereas the D750 output "Digital Photograph" ready for Computer modification. So, D700 magic and D750 sterile and Digital.
@@the_meridian I like your answer! I'm a strong believer that cameras are not the sum of their specs but there is something more to it. Thank you for sharing!
Canon user here, never used a Nikon, but the real lesson is old dogs like this D700 are still relevant for most people. And if 12 MP is fine, the 20 MP from my 5D Mark II are more than enough for print and surely overkill for « social » media where even older 3-4 MP cameras would do the trick (I did an experiment by showing the same shot taken with my iPhone vs my almost 25 y.o. D30, most of my peers were blown away by how this dinosaur fared against a fairly recent phone with all of its software enhancements which made the photo certainly pleasing but a bit dull).
Hey - I don't doubt for a second that this Nikon D700 is surely a GREAT digital camera. But seriously ... what could it possibly offer in the way of IMAGE QUALITY which modern cameras supposedy LACK? Very real question here, so offer me GENUINE responses.
I genuinely think it is a great camera! A great camera for me is one that a skilled photographer can use to take good photos. And this Nikon D700 proved to be able to still capture good photos. Of course, almost any modern camera is far better in terms of pure image quality (also AF, ISO range etc.) but this one costs under £300 used and, like I found out, is certain situations still can compete with more advanced ones. What I'm saying is not that D700 is better than Z7 II but that it is still a good camera that can do a lot! - Jakub
I find those old camera praise a bit strange. A D700 was a good camera at it's time. But today? It is an old piece of gear. There is no service in case it fails. And comparing the photos from the Sony with the D700 the difference is not big enough to buy it as an add on.
I recommend *not* taking the card in and out to read the files. The pins that go into the card are fragile and easily bent, and then snapped off. It's better to leave the card in and use a USB cable to extract your files.
I have the D200 and use a Micro SD to compact flash adaptor, just make sure you get one with the slot the other side of the compact flash connector. That way you can leave the adapter in the camera. Just don't use a card larger than 32gb.
@@RichardFraser-y9t I got one myself when I purchased a d300s. But mine had to be removed from the camera to remove the SD card. So all it did was to let me use the camera without CF cards. I ended up buying CF cards though, as that adapter didn't let me shoot action bursts too well...
So long as you use decent cards (SanDisk) and carefully check each time you insert them that the card is not damaged and lined up correctly there's no problem.

Soon...
@@AbbasBinYounas I'm pairing it with nifty fifty haha manifesting a Nikon Zf soon tho
The D700 was my first "real" DSLR after a brief learning stint with a D40x. Still probably my favorite camera I've ever had, though I used by D750 for longer. IMO, the 700 is one of the prettiest camera of all time in its design and build.
Just bought a D850 in 2024. I have a mirrorless, but I couldn’t fully depart with DSLR’s. I enjoy the photographic experience with them.
i bought D780 in 2021, I was thinking about going with mirrorless, but i wanted to have the more natural workflow with pure optical viewfinder.
Can you imagine a better recommendation for a D700? 😀 Thank you for sharing! - Jakub
Cool video, can you do one like it on the D200 ?
Me too. D160 please
I upgraded to a D810 and then a D850 from the D700. Looking through my images...I think I just side-graded...great DSLR...great camera full-stop
I own a Z8, a D850 and a D700. But the D700 is still the king of lowlight performance. I love it.
- Jakub
People get hung up on megapixels. And don't talk about lens resolving power, which is more important
they dont even understand it , 9 out of 10 people will say , you get sharper images when you stop down the lens , when all lenses are sharpest wide open , in the center that is and when you stop the lens down , you sacrifice the middle center for gains in the corners , and for DOF ... they cant figure out that every part of glass works on every pixel at the same time , so more glass is always sharper , tho due to problems in the corners of the glass or edges , things improve stopped down but not in the center they dont . Center can only degrade .
@@dedskin1 Woah bro, you literally got everything backwards in terms of lens sharpness.
@@dedskin1have you actually compared center stopped down to f4 and wide open?
I use a D300, same 12 MP, and I'm fully content with.
- Jakub
This is the only camera I will never sell. I have every Nikon and I don’t have any passion for them. But the 700 is pure passion.
That's a great tip, thanks for sharing! - Jakub
I still use my D200 and I love it
It has what many new mirrorless cameras simply dont have and that is character throughout, from the usability & responsive feedback when shooting to the raw files. The experience makes you bond with it & you dont get that from new cameras. Feels less like a computer & more like photography.
For me the D700 is the best camera of all times...just above another legend: Canon 5D MKII.
If you use live view at all you need 10 back up batteries.
@@EzrabastianI’ve had my d700 for 6yrs now and still have no clue about the operation of live view 😂
@@markmcdonald3832 So do I - use my D700 since 2010, never, ever used Live view.
5D deserves it's own video...or 6D series which is considered the little brother to the 5D sensor wise
Agree, I would love to have a deeper dive into the Canon 5D or 6D series one day. I will have a think about it. Thank you for watching! - Jakub
I agree with the "best part" are the lenses. The old glass is still amazing.
I’ve had my D700 for a while, but it was a dream camera of mine 10 years ago. It’s built like a tank, offers reliable af performance and the images are always impressive. I’d like a D850, but I enjoy the small file sizes of the D700.
THe phtographer was using a nikon 85 1.4 lens an absolute beauty!!
Excellent for still life photography ,nothing else compares ,not even contemporary mirrorless cameras .
Goodness, it's working - I'm finding myself drawn to it 😄
How does it perform for wildlife photography?
Still have mine - and it really is the perfect camera.
I've just bought one from you guys, so I really hope it is as good as you say. Thanks for sharing 🤗👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's great to hear, thank you! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it! - Jakub
My first and my forever camera.
D700 and 5D Legends! I still use them for portrait photography!
Love my D700. Only DSLR I still have even after switching most of my setup to mirrorless.
It speaks a lot about how loved this camera is. Thank you for sharing! - Jakub

Hi there, thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately we are unable to ship to India. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I am also a happy owner of two D700 body's. For travel, I prefer often a D200 whitch is lighter and delivers also beautiful colors... and if everything has to go fast, I choose my beautiful D3 🙂
That is a nice collection of classic Nikon bodies you have there! The D200 is an amazing camera as well. Thank you for watching! - Jakub
The appearance of the D700 is unique. The tall upright pentaprism is not seen anywhere else from Nikon.

D800, D800E, D810, D850
D2HS, D2X, D3, D3S, D3X, D4, D4S, Df, D5, D6
Any Z body is worth buying.
The D6 got a lot of hate, but it's one of the only Nikon DSLR I think still covered under warranty. I think the D780, D850 and maybe the D500 are still covered under warranty.
Ive used nearly every camera produced by Nikon, this and the D4s are the best they have ever made.
In 2008 Pentax had K20D with 14.6 Mpix CMOS and IBIS.
And Sony had FF A700 with 12Mpix and IBIS and 24Mpix FF A900 also with IBIS.

Great camera
Still better autofocus than any of the Fuji cameras I have bought.
Oh! I'll take the Z7 II thanks 😂
It's a great camera
I use it for awhile.
All functions are fantastic. But live view drain battery really soon .
The older Nikkor glass can still produce amazing images.
nice vid, very interesting

i love mine ,sony fuji canon and i still go back to the brick ..
Great camera. I own 2.
I own two D700 bodies, and I am not going to depart from them.
I got one almost new with a battery grip and a 50mm f1.4 lens. Never selling. None of that performance stuff matters for a regular photographer with good skills. Sure, if I am shooting high-pressure sets like in a wedding, it helps to use the latest and greatest
First time I've heard 16 years ago as 'ancient'. By that yard-stick I'm prehistoric..!
My oldest 35mm SLR is from 1949, go figure.
The D700 at launch was essentially 90% of a D3 at 60% of the price.
Think about it. Same sensor. One less card slot. Ability to use 3 different types of batteries including the EN-EL 4 the D3 uses.
What’s not to love?
To be honest MPB as much as I like the sound of the Nikon D700 I am looking for a best looking used Nikon D750, Nikon D5600, Nikon D780.
These are all great cameras, I'm sure you'd be happy with any of them. Thanks for watching! - Jakub
It's an incredible piece of technology.
But, but compare with modern mirrorless cameras.....😄😃
- Jakub
Please do a 7D Mark 1!
I remember 7D, it was a great camera. I will definitely have a think about it 😉 - Jakub
Still my work horse camera
I don't think DSLRs will ever have anything nostalgic about them besides the viewfinder and the lens options. The bodies and sensors are outdated but ... will do just fine in daylight or with flash. I happily use old cameras because of fear for theft or drops.
To be honest I didn't it cross my mind to think of it that way, thank you! - Jakub
These videos are great for trying to get rid of inventory. I lol at the print comparison. No way I'd pick up a d700 over even a Z6.
Me too, it's a big, heavy old beast, but it does still make very decent images. Z6's are amazing value now, and much, much better than the D700 IMO. Start-up time is the only thing that's better on the D700
The sensor of Nikon D700 was produced by Panasonic, not by Nikon. (My be it was designed by Nikon but produced by Panasonic.)
That is true, indeed. According to the sources it was designed by Nikon and produced by Panasonic. Thank you! - Jakub
look at the shadows , how is it that D700 has better shadows , look at the entrance to that castle , its all black on modern one , on D700 you can see bricks inside .Or tree shadows , its very evident and biggest difference .
Some of the magic is back in the z6ii eh, who am I kidding no it's not :(
want to stress though that I really HATED WITH A PASSION the d750
I'm really curious: why did you hate the D750? On paper it looks like an upgrade over the D700? - Jakub
Do you sell its batteries?
We do, indeed! www.mpb.com/product/nikon-en-el3e-rechargeable-battery Thanks for watching! - Jakub
If you're going to edit Nikon raw images, you must use Nikon software, otherwise you're not getting the actual colors the camera has encoded.
Do you think even the latest RAW processing software like Lightroom or CaptureOne can't process them properly? I'd love to hear more about it! - Jakub
I have two...
Still got mine I bought new on release. Will never sell it.
When you do I have a great place to recommend 😉 Thank you for watching! - Jakub
If you have one never sell it. I have two myself and stull enjoy them.
I recommend *not* taking the card in and out to read the files. The pins that go into the card are fragile and easily bent, and then snapped off. It's better to leave the card in and use a USB cable to extract your files.
But I've read it's quite slow, cable transfer. What's your experience?
