I think some people get confused with who this is targeting. It's not a Cherokee trailhawk competitor or a bronco competitor but more targeting that Subaru crowd. People who occasionally go camping etc....it doesn't need A/T tires and a huge lift.
I swear someone always points out the Toyota half of the new plant. It's like they want people to think Mazda can only be good because of that, but Mazda quality surpassed Toyota before the plant was built.

The roof is one of the reasons I went beyond base model this time. I was gonna go preffered plus but the bigger wheels and some more premium options lured me in. The 20" wheels on my black cx-50 look fantastic.

Hi from Vancouver! Great video thank you. I test drove Mazda CX-50 & CX-5 on Tuesday!!!! I drive a 2011 Subaru Forester now and I have my eyes on an Outback next. I’m in love with Mazda now, truly impressed with driving experience and premium feel & aesthetics. BUT huge issue for me is the A pillar & driver side mirror - worst blind spot ever :( Mazda CX-5 fits me better you might say however overall visibility (either Mazda models) can’t compete with Subaru Forester or Outback. As a city dweller :) and if I were rich, I’d still love a Mazda and yup, even the CX-50, mega blind spot and all. This is such a good looking vehicle and it feels solid.
This car with a 2 inch lift and beefy AT's and it can probably get you through 95% of the trails you want to drive on. Sure, it's not a rock crawler, but they didn't build it to be one. Mazda sure knows how to make good looking cars.
I was really looking at getting one of these. I ended up going with a slightly used Honda Passport Elite AWD. I absolutely love how this looks and the interior is so good looking.
I think you made the better choice with the Honda for sure even though the Passportis in a differentclass. That would have been my choice as well. I drive a Honda 2015 Accord EX-L with a V6. Love it!
@@adamesd3699 The trade off is a reliable dependable phenomenal sounding punchy HONDA MADE V6 that will last as long as you want it to with minimal maintenance. I'll take that trade any day if the week. The intake sound plus the snarl of that v6 is intoxicating when punched! I have thecsane motor with the super reliable honda made 6 speed automatic ! Love it!
I love the way it looks, but the AWD warning light while driving on paved roads is a huge red flag. The CX5’s rear differential is borrowed from the CX9 and is designed for high torque. There’s also always load being sent to the rear diff on the CX5 and CX9. The CX50’s rear differential is borrowed from the CX30 and is not designed for constant load.
Gave me Kia Seltos dual clutch heating issues flashbacks, for sure. However, we don’t know exactly what he was doing to cause it. I don’t think, it’s an actual issue for real driving. Dave Coleman said the CX-50 uses a beefier powertrain designed for towing and no other review has mentioned this issue. In contrast to the Kia Seltos, where multiple reviews showed the DCT overheating from minor off-roading. You mention the CX-30, but it also uses the same turbo engine and no one has mentioned an AWD warning.
I currently drive a 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback and looking to upgrade for more space for my daughter and dog. What are your thoughts ? Right now i’m eyeing a used outback. Maybe a 2020 or 2021. Or maybe get a new Mazda CX-9 size version of this
This is based on the Mazda 3 platform is it not? This vehicle confuses me. The $41 k ask is steep when compared to the C-X5 Signature. I mean who is REALLY going to take this thing off road? Mazda’s by design are built for “indoorsmen” like myself. Hence my extreme satisfaction with my lovely ‘22 CX-30 Turbo Premium+
I might be mistaken but you have to pay for the AWD .Subaru comes standard AWD which been around for 50 years .MX50 was my 2nd choice btw great looking car .Happy Trails .

I agree that you should be able to disable the HUD and not have it enabled every time you restart the car. I’m hoping that Mazda would be able to easily fix that with a software update. However, a workaround is to lower the position so that it’s our of your line of sight. We did that for our 2021 Mazda CX-5 and it works well enough.
What I’m looking for is a toe feature towing a little travel trailer camper may be 14 theater 17 feet max and 2500 pounds anybody know the specs on that how that works it’s gonna be a good car for that or is it too small??
I prefer Mazda's simple, smooth, and elegant exterior design, so imo they peaked with the new Mazda 3. The CX5 design refresh is not different enough, and I don't like where the design language is going with the CX50 and CX60. I was so close to pulling the trigger on buying a CX5 GT Premium Package, the better fuel economy and driver assists made me go with the Tucson Hybrid Limited
Cool review Micah. I recently shopped crossovers and this seems as capable as others I drove. I love the style and already see them on the roads here in Florida.

The turbo is good for that car too- and even though it wears engines out FASTER-- I won't be driving it all that much anyway..
In like this car as driven. However, as typical for Mazda, the more affordable and most purchase trims are very lackluster. That 2.5 NA engine is a dog and with the 6-speed auto has very poor fuel economy. The lesser seat fabric - pleather - is super thin and easily discolored. The sound deadening is definitely reduced and the overall feel is not so premium, which only accentuates the drawbacks compared to similarly priced competitors who may not match the top trims’. For example, a Rav4 Hybrid Limited still feels cheapish compared to the top spec CX-50 turbo, but at the base specs for the two, the Toyota absolutely comes out on top. The same is true for the CRV, Forester and Rogue. I feel that if Subaru had dropped the 2.4 turbo into the Forester no one would even look at the CX-50.
I love it but… yes… buttt 1) Tail lights doesn’t match the aggressive /rugged vibe the headlights give 2) For an SUV it’s pretty low.. I get the reasons why it’s low but still 3) Hybrid MUST be competitive. 55city 59 highway??? Pleaseee

"It looks like the interior was injured and repaired in stylish fashion". I will never look at car stitching the same way again.

Just actually bought one today. Just arrived a dealer 2 days ago and got the white. Looks great! Good review guys.
I love the CX-50 styling and functionality. Seriously considering this as my next Mazda.
Crazy how this is considered a compact SUV
I think some people get confused with who this is targeting. It's not a Cherokee trailhawk competitor or a bronco competitor but more targeting that Subaru crowd. People who occasionally go camping etc....it doesn't need A/T tires and a huge lift.
This is also targeting Rav 4 buyers. It matches it in every way
Really considering this as my next vehicle this fall. It looks great and Mazda makes quality vvehicles.
