The independent brake is specifically for the loco, the train brake is for the whole train. And the dynamic brake is for going down hill, and the throttle has to be in idle to use the dynamic brake.
Jeff, the difference in the brakes is how they're utilized. The "automatic brake" is the train's air brakes. When you make an initial reduction, you're applying the brakes on the entire train. The dynamic brake is taking the energy from the traction motors and using it against the wheels to slow the train down. The automatic and dynamic brakes can be used at the same time. You don't have to wait until you're finished with one to use the other.
The other thing is that you can't use the throttle and dynamic brake at the same time. The throttle is applying electricity to the traction motors while the dynamic brake is taking it away.
"The following ad is being condensed for your viewing convince" Guy 1: So, I just switched to Geico Guy 2: What took ya so long? Guy 1: I know, I saved up so much money on Car Insurance Guy 2: That's what I'm talking about! Guy 1: It also gives you 20 % more to get a licensed Agent Guy 2: Oh-yah!!
Hey Jeff for the dynamic brakes to work Throttle to 0 for 5 seconds put the dynamic brakes into setup for about 10 seconds you should hear them engage and come up on the amp metor. That's what they showed me in RCO class at the Union Pacific.
Yay, Glad you'll be doing videos on TSW. Remember to put the throttle in neutral before applying dynamic breaks. Also they don't work under 15 - 10mph. The independent brake is the loco break only. (Mostly for yard work when you don't have a consist). Be sure you open the box cars too! You can hide out on them while a ai train is driving. HeHe Have a good vacation.
Hey Jeff, before doing dynamic brake, put some automatic brake, take a look at the gaje on the right side. You should see the brake cylinder increasing. That mean it apply brake on the locomotive and the freight car behind you. When you will start to apply dynamic brake, you should see the brake cylinder going down ( that mean it release the brake on the locomotive because the gaje is connected on the air system in your brake cylinder on the first bogie of the loco, but it will stay on the wagon behind you ) You will see it will brake much more. Independent brake = Apply brake on the locomotive only. Automatic brake = Apply brake on all the wagon and loco Bail Off with Independent brake on an Automatic brake = Release Locomotive brake application only.
I am sure somebody has already mentioned this but there is a toilet in the nose of most locomotives as well as I noticed when you stepped off the train you didn't go set and Centered which means that you have your brake set and you have your forward reverser centered and in most cases tho i doubt you can do t in the game you actually remove the handle for your forward reverser. being a former conductor for a few railroads as well as my dad is still an engineer and it's been a family thing I think we've all peed in plenty of bushes. lol I am 4th generation in my family for railroading and I actually left it because I have a passion for law enforcement so hopefully I will be first generation law enforcement. definitely keep up all the great videos Jeff I enjoy them all and am actually pretty Blown Away by the detail of the inside of the locomotive in this game. I haven't finished this full videos of might be commenting a little too soon about this but I am very curious on if you can actually shut down and restart the locomotive the way you normally would in real life.
Just a tip with the dynamics brakes. The throttle must be off before you can use dynamics. I saw that you were struggling with it when the throttle was on.
You cannot/should not turn on Dynamic brakes when your engine is in any notch higher than idle. This is because dynamic brakes are using the traction motors to slow down, and you cant use the traction motors to slow the locomotive when you're powering the traction motors.
I was a pretty big railhead all the way into my 20s until I applied for Burlington Northern, passed all their entrance tests and physical requirements, but because the hiring guy didn't like the guy who referred me, I didn't get the job. I still like watching these types of games as it gives me that warm and fuzzy of my childhood, the son of a Chicago and Northwestern veteran. While I engineered a few engines with my dad way back when, for the life of me I've forgotten so much about the technical stuff. Eh, time is a cruel mistress! Good vid nonetheless. Kind of a pity about the game engine. Unreal 4 is such an old environment I'm surprised people still develop with it. I downloaded Amazon's Lumberyard the other day just to see the options, and THAT was quite impressive.
I've had this game for a week or so now and I love it. And when you see your mouse cursor on the screen it means you're in mouse mode so you can click on switches and stuff so it doesn't let you walk around or move the camera.
The Signals Top light tells you you can either Proceed for Green Orange proceed with caution and Red Stop The bottom light is if the Switch is set to change tracks if its red then its normal Green the switch has been set and you will change tracks
Joshua Sutton it's the other way around . Top tells direction and bottom gives you the way to proceed. If you have a red over anything you'll be changing tracks
This game looks like it has allot of potential. Hope the issues it currently has will soon be resolved. Hope to see more and great video as always Jeff. Hope you and Nicole enjoy your trip to Nashville. And your anniversary.
Nice video Jeff, Really impressed with all the modeled controls and such, the last train sim I played was way back in 2001 called Microsoft Train Simulator. Man has train sim games evolved!
Actually excited that you did this! I know you have a better gaming setup then i do so i'm a little surprised you are getting bad FPS on it, i haven't had much issue myself, but i don't doubt that it isn't happening. Hoping they will fix it as well.
Dynamic brakes are used for braking the locomotive only. Depending on the maker of the locomotive the dynamic brakes will not come on 10 mph or lower and they make a winding noise when they do come on.
To use dynamic brakes put throttle to idle make sure reverser is forward add dynamic brake to what Notch you want/need then add the throttle to engage the dynamics
With the controller: If you press RS, you get the mouse pointer problem you had. Pressing X cycles between the different brakes (It will go back to "default" when leaving the seat or something)
Dynamic brake didn't work since you have the throttle on, it will be able to be enabled by the throttle on zero and to use the dynamic brake you then throttle up the engine.
Poor woman must have seen some traumatic experiences in her CSX career. When it comes to detail and sound though, this sim looks great. Devs might want to take some time to update modeling and FPS though.
Jeff the engines have bathrooms in them. There located in the nose of the engine. So no they don't stop and they don't use a bucket either. I know other people will tell you about the brakes. I'll let the other people teach you about everything.
I really like the game. As you mentioned, it isn't well optimized. On mid to lower end computers the framerates are pretty bad, so you have to turn the graphics level down. When you turn the graphics down, the game looses much of it beauty. Also, I noticed there was a patch March 17 it seemed like that improved the optimisation a bit.
Nice video as always, Jeff. Any chance you are going to continue the "The Estranged" series. That was a really cool game to watch you play. I love watching you play adventure type games.
yellow /green if i recall is slow clear yellow/red approach also dynamics you have to have the throttle idle then set dynamic and if i recall you use the throttle to add more dynamic to slow you down also fun fact the conductors HT on her waist looks like a motorola HT1250 VHF with the full DTMF keypad
yellow light means precaution or on moving train ahead of you far ahead of you and red light means there's a train on your tracks very close or there's a junction switched to another to another track and of it is you'll go flying off the tracks
Jeff you should just play this with a keyboard and mouse there's not really a need for a controller since trains don't really have a need for analog sticks or triggers.
okay thanks Jeff I just wanted to let you know I love all the games that you play and that the ones that the other players that you play against also do good at what they do
Hoping DTG fix the optimisation good luck with that, it took them 3 or more years to fix bugs in scenarios in the old train sim But you are 1 of the few RUclipsr's to point the issue out and I thankyou for being honest
+Steve Austin of course man! I am just like y'all I want a good train sim that looks and performs good. The details in the game are def what keep me coming back to it.
One time I was taking a load up to Sand Patch summit, and I forgot to leave the brake on when I got off, so it slowly started rolling down the hill and I couldn't get back on. Dovetail should still let you get on a moving train but not get off.
IN REFERENCE TO THE DYNAMIC BRAKE....YOU HAVE TO PUT THE THROTTLE TO IDLE AND THE REVERSER INTO NEUTRAL THEN SET THE BRAKE TO WHATEVER NOTCH AND THROTTLE UP THE THROTTLE....USING THE BRAKE WITHOUT THROTTLEING UP DOES NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE BRAKE.
Cliff C ummm what? ive been doing it in forward or reverse for years, and it wont work in neutral... even if it could, it wouldnt know which way to reverse the current to slow the train down down
Dynamic brakes u need to put the throttle on idle after u have it on idle put dynamic bakes on where u want them u put the throttle back on its will reverse polarity
From my expirence, I think the motion blur, or motion ghosting as I sometimes call it(where you see something move but it kinda ghosts behind the moving object...?) is caused by the antialiasing. Because I switched from TAA to FXAA, and that got rid of it. It also seemed to help my frames, but that just may differ from PC to PC
The independent brake is specifically for the loco, the train brake is for the whole train. And the dynamic brake is for going down hill, and the throttle has to be in idle to use the dynamic brake.

I'm looking forward to this one, picked it up on sale yesterday from steam. Nice video so far.
+Acepilot2k7 Thanks bud, yeah I would wait to see if DT fixes the fps issues. It's a real Debbie downer.
I really love the free-roam aspect. A real train simulator game changer!

12:53 the sweet sound of a K5LA!! 😍😍😍😍

You could say Jeff needed TRAINing before today's vid.

I think they should add graffiti on the train cars for realisticness
9:44 no there are two bathrooms in the locomotives one in the front and one in the rear +Jeff Favignano

Above it
@@pennsylvanianrailfan ?
@@Unknown_Bread it is above sand patch
Oh

I wish ATS/ETS had a option that you could get out of the truck just like you can get out of the train here, would be pretty rad.
Jeff, this was a great video!!! I am definitely interested in seeing more of your videos from Train Sim World. Thanks for uploading!
+Wallstreetpilot you got it man! Thanks for watching
Congrats on your 3 year anniversary also Jeff!!
Yellow over green means proceed approaching next single not exceeding medium speed
Hey Jeff nice vid and happy anniversary to you and Nichole hope you both have a great one
Jeff the yellow signal siding means you have stop at the next signal siding

+Jacob Murrell We had a blast man! Thank you

Congratulations to you both on 3 years :)
These sounds are spot on. I grew up next to a railroad track on ur farm and they sound just like this
Nice video Jeff, Really impressed with all the modeled controls and such, the last train sim I played was way back in 2001 called Microsoft Train Simulator. Man has train sim games evolved!
Throttle has to be idle to use a the dynamic brake (and vise versa)
+Kade Gillman Thanks Kade!
Jeff Favignano your welcome
hey jeff, make another house tour or room tour when ya can! last one looked cool!
Congrats on 3 years!!!
I wish ATS was this detailed
+AnimeDubs me too!
Just a little FYI. Most newer locomotives like the AC4400 have their own toilets.
NIce video Jeff! Nice to see you back driving some trains!
Actually excited that you did this! I know you have a better gaming setup then i do so i'm a little surprised you are getting bad FPS on it, i haven't had much issue myself, but i don't doubt that it isn't happening. Hoping they will fix it as well.
Hopefully they'll have the radio inside the rain working where you can operate it so you can talk to dispatch and etc.
When you put a voice to a face and get surprised!!! Lmfao! Good video Jeff!
Big fan Jeff! Think this is my first comment though?? Happy Anniversary to you and Nicole. Keep up the great work! :)
Dynamic brakes are used for braking the locomotive only. Depending on the maker of the locomotive the dynamic brakes will not come on 10 mph or lower and they make a winding noise when they do come on.
I know right
Jeff, There is no shame in using the mouse and keyboard. I still use it for American Truck Simulator.
The Nathan K5LA on that GP38-2 and SD40-2 is sweet. I only wish Dovetail would put a K5HLB or K5HLL and a Graham E-bell on the AC400CW.

+Mr Tom-A-hawk sure thing man!
Dynamic brake didn't work since you have the throttle on, it will be able to be enabled by the throttle on zero and to use the dynamic brake you then throttle up the engine.
I was wondering if you're ever going to play Kona again now that the game has been released
yes it is planned!
Poor woman must have seen some traumatic experiences in her CSX career. When it comes to detail and sound though, this sim looks great. Devs might want to take some time to update modeling and FPS though.
Of the following, which licenses have you earned: pilot, EMT (or higher), firefighter, scuba diver, law enforcement officer?
slapshot1343, He has a PPL
Hey man gotta ask is estranged dead??
I love it!!! Do you think you could do a express train run? Like on a passenger train? I would love to see maybe an Amtrack!
Jeff the engines have bathrooms in them. There located in the nose of the engine. So no they don't stop and they don't use a bucket either. I know other people will tell you about the brakes. I'll let the other people teach you about everything.
TRAINS ON JEFF'S CHANNEL?!?!?!? AWESOMENESS!!!!
it's not the first time
That's a long friggin train!!!

Hey Jeff, to move faster in free-cam mode, use R Shift to move faster
+inmysightsss I did in this very video
Nice video as always, Jeff. Any chance you are going to continue the "The Estranged" series. That was a really cool game to watch you play. I love watching you play adventure type games.
You can't use dynamic braking while you're in notches to use dynamics throttle needs to be in idle
Happy Anniversary Jeff!
I loved this video Jeff please do more
I Love train games like this Jeff!
Yellow over Green - Clear to Medium. Medium speed 30Mph

Jeff do you think the dynamic brake wasn't working because it couldn't work while your throttle was above idle
You should go out one day and go railfanning!
You cannot use dynamic brake when you are powering.
Also using independent brake on a full train will skid the wheels badly
You should vlog while you're in nashville
+Quinn McNamara I just want to enjoy my vacay ;)
Thanks okay! I understand it is your anniversary.
Show us the length of the train! The whole thing!
+godeszinn it says it in the cab on the digital readout
yellow light means precaution or on moving train ahead of you far ahead of you and red light means there's a train on your tracks very close or there's a junction switched to another to another track and of it is you'll go flying off the tracks
Fire_Train No, a yellow means there's a red ahead. And red means stop.
oh yellow i thought means watch out for train ahead
D4WN COBRA on certain signals red doesn't mean stop
Merry Christmas and happy new year jeff
i think you should do more videos of this.. keep up the great videos.
Wait Jeff are you just taking a break form sniper elite 4? Or..... Would love to find out what happens because I really enjoy that series.
Love the video! I actually have a csx rail behind my house!
Jeff are u streaming My Summer Car today?
This game looks so cool, can't wait to see some more videos of it.
The bathroom is in a little door on the inside of the cab, it's located in the nose.
Putting dynamic brake without setup
"It works good for us" xD
loved the video jeff

ATS needs movement like that but 10x better
I love it. I just want America in the 50s with steam locomotives and old diesels
You have to move throttle to neutral to use the dynamic brake
IN REFERENCE TO THE DYNAMIC BRAKE....YOU HAVE TO PUT THE THROTTLE TO IDLE AND THE REVERSER INTO NEUTRAL THEN SET THE BRAKE TO WHATEVER NOTCH AND THROTTLE UP THE THROTTLE....USING THE BRAKE WITHOUT THROTTLEING UP DOES NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE BRAKE.
Roland Lege Jr You don't have to go to neutral
cebayne you do if you don't want to burn out your traction motors
Cliff C ummm what? ive been doing it in forward or reverse for years, and it wont work in neutral... even if it could, it wouldnt know which way to reverse the current to slow the train down down
Lol I was talking real life. Not the game
Cliff C Me too... dynamic brake is locked out in neutral
thank you jeff, i really like this sim
+Ghostbusters Networks what are you 9 years old? also you'll only need a 50$ laptop to run those shitty games.
You have to bring the throttle to zero to the use the dynamic brake.
Dynamic brakes u need to put the throttle on idle after u have it on idle put dynamic bakes on where u want them u put the throttle back on its will reverse polarity
can you do a 2 header train
hahahah 'jeff looks at the camera after train horn and nods'
"spacebar" ahhahahahaha
+Kris Evans I found it! I was like duh same as TS2017
Use the independent when you stop on the engine.
I could do a 3 hour route I did EHAM-TNCM a famous flight.
I have done it also in a KLM 747
Dynamic Brake is usually used for going down grades
The middle train when you pick trains has a bathroom in between the 2 controls and if you inter through the front it will be on your right
